    The best thing about this movie is how the "censored" version of the Joker's death is just as, if not more violent than the original cut

    • @GamingintheAM0801
      @GamingintheAM0801 5 років тому +344

      Honestly, I might prefer the censored death. There's something very fitting about the Joker going out in an act of slapstick.

      It's a punchline that even he would laugh at.

      I believe that when return of the joker came out there was a school shooting or something similar that had happen shortly before... it just was seen as bad taste

      @@Darkjonny79 " that's not funny, that's not funny at all" though I do agree I like the censored slapstick death more than the shooting him death. Mostly cause I think there's kinda a poetic justice to it. both kinda, have that element, but I think it fits better being the joker's final joke backfires on himself in the worst way possible. like when you see bugs and daffy do the argument over who gets shot bit. They go back and forth, but daffy's ego of need to feel superior and win the fight that ultimately gets him shot multiple times. I feel the censored version is more interesting visually too. In the uncut version, he gets shot and makes a joke about it not being funny. In the censored version the joker and robin have a fight, he gets pushed into vats of liquids and ends up shocking himself to death when he pulls on a lever as he falls.

    • @Darkjonny79

      @@darkmyro Thats what I mean. Getting shot isn't a funny punchline. But the old "slipping on a banana" gag would make him laugh in hindsight. Obviously he doesn't slip on a banana, but you know what I mean

    I do love that the microchip being so exposed was actually kind of the point. That the Joker is consumed by his ego, which again is also why the heckling worked, and Bruce was able to understand that while Terry was able to use his unique style to exploit it in a way Bruce never could. That’s a legacy battle done right.

    I honestly just love that Terry was Joker's kryptonite. He thoroughly gets inside his head, and Joker clearly despises him. It would have been really interesting to see Joker as a part of Terry's rogue's gallery, just because we've only seen Joker as someone who seems to enjoy Batman. Seeing him actively despise his foe would be an interesting twist.

    There's a touching moment in the main series wherein Terry's little brother wants to do some SF/F way of contacting Warren McGinnis, their Dad, because he is now having trouble remembering things about him. This hits harder when you realize Matt McGinnis must also be Bruce's genetic son, a fact confirmed by Dwayne McDuffie before he left us.

    I just recently rewatched this movie, it's still disturbing. I avoided Batman Beyond as a kid because it was the first time something had made me feel uncomfortable on an existential level, I was upset to see my favourite characters get old. I think the one that upset me the most was Bane, he's always been my favourite and the poor guy didn't even get a warrior's death! That said, it is impressive that the show is of such high quality based on the network telling then they needed to make a teen Batman show to sell more merchandise. Trust the Timmverse crew to somehow find the soul in a shameless, capitalist pitch. And the art style is so damn slick, it's timeless.

    I mean, he's supposed to be "emulating" a bat ffs
    I've always thought that Batman should be able to fly, & not just glide like a flying squirrel lol
    Sidenote, I really like how Bats got like a super sonic jetpack in the 2004 The Batman series when he fought against Firefly & it would make like a cool blue trail after him

    For those who don't know; Batman the Animated series and Batman Beyond are set in an interconnected universe of DC animated shows and movies known as the DCAU (DC animated universe). The other shows that exist in this universe are the new Batman Adventures, Superman, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Static Shock and the Zeta Project. The movies set in this universe are Batman Mask of the Phantasm, Batman Subzero, Batman Mystery of the Batwoman, Justice League vs the Fatal Five and (of course) Batman Beyond Return of the Joker.

    I’ve never been able to look past the utter absurdity of Joker coming back. First of all, since when was he some brilliant scientist? The most science-y thing he ever did was create the Joker toxin, which is a far, _far_ cry from *literally figuring out how to clone your mind onto a tiny chip that when activated will transform the host’s body into yours.* It’s just kinda... dumb, honestly.
    I’m also not a huge fan of how it insinuates that the only reason Joker kept coming back was because Batman never talked much to him. As if all Bruce could have stopped him a long time ago had he simply thought “hey, maybe I should try backtalking him”. That retroactively kinda cheapens Batman and Joker’s many encounters over the years and makes Bruce look really bad- apparently if he’d had this one incredibly simple idea back then, he could’ve prevented the Bat-Family from ever being torn apart.

    • @thewindthatblows
      @thewindthatblows 2 роки тому

      Also, the microchip cheapens the agency of Tim's characther. It would have been much more interesting if the characther was the Joker by his own choice: at some point he would actually implant the chip on himself for the guilt he still felt in killing a person and when that guilt kicks in he becomes the Joker to let him live a bit longer (some of the previous brainwashing had its toll on his psyche)
