How to make MAPO TOFU 〜麻婆豆腐〜 | easy Japanese home cooking recipe

  • In this video, I am showing how make Mapo Tofu (Mabo Tofu), a Chinese dish, which we make quite often in Japan using Tofu and minced pork. It also uses Chinese spicy sauce Toban-Djan (chilli bean sauce), but this can be substituted with other chilli sauce such as sriracha sauce.
    In my Channel, I show step by step of alternative but authentic Japanese home cooking, which can be made with the ingredients that are easily available outside of Japan.
    Ingredients for Mapo Tofu:
    Minced pork 100 g
    Tofu (soft or firm) 150 g
    Scallion 2
    Garlic 1 clove
    Ginger small piece
    Chili bean sauce (Toban djan) 2 Tsp
    Miso 2 Tsp
    Soy sauce 2 Tsp
    Pepper a pinch
    Water 200 ml (4/5 cup)
    Sesame oil 1-2 Tsp
    Starch 1 Tsp

    It's midnight here in Arizona and I am almost teary eyed because all the dishes I enjoyed in Japan a couple of weeks ago are found in your channel. I am so so so thankful I came across your channel!!! When I had this dish at my hotel for breakfast, I mixed it in my noodles and it tasted good. Hahaha. I am so happy that your channel exists!!!

    I made it vegan by using beans instead of pork and all other ingredients were as stated in your original recipe. It Tasted great! ❤️ thank you so much

    I made this the other day. It is addictive!!! Definitely something I will be cooking more often. Thank you for sharing the recipe! I used ground turkey instead of pork for a more healthier option, works just as well. Next time I will try pork

    Cooking for 8 people. Should I 4x the recipe? 😋 None of our restaurants here have this. I use to get this 2x weekly when I was living in Toronto. Moved 3 hours away to no man's land. Lol...

    Why do you always cut tofu in you hand? This looks dangerous because you are pressing a sharp edge in the direction of your hand.
    I'm sure you are able to do it safely but what is the technique aside from "you have to be carefull"?
    Also why you dont do in in the board instead? Thanks in advance!
