  • It is worth every bit of effort to take the time and clean up an intake manifold. It's the first thing you see when looking at an engine and should alwasy stand out. Here I'll show you how I clean this manifold up with nothing but a paint stripper, wire wheels, And paint colors!

intake ports should be rough.. it creates turbulence so the air can mix with the fuel.. exhaust should be polished!! Cheers from Argentina!

This guy is correct the reason ya want a semi rough surface in your intake is cause it causes gas to atomize better. Look at any high end cylinder head port or intake and you’ll never see a mirror finish. You’ll see only mirror finish on exhaust ports to help with carbon building up and that’s the only reason. You can think what ever ya want but if ya disagree I guess my response would be where’s your polished intake tract ground pounder and I’ll butter your eye with my rough ports.

@@MrCbell57 I think you’re wrong. You keep mentioning injectors, which are almost always at the base of the intake and not at the carb flange. They’re spraying directly at the back of the intake valves, vs Inside a “long runner” intake that makes bends before it gets to the cylinder. Those edelbrock “annular” boosters you mentioned are NOT new tech, some flathead fords had carbs with annular boosters, a lot of Holley 2300 2 barrels that came with fords stock had annular boosters. Not new technology. If “wet” style intakes are meant to be smooth, why did they add rough bumps at the base of the carb? If you’re running a traditional style long runner intake like this with a carb, or even carb style fuel injection like a Holley aftermarket injection, the casting needs to be left rough..

Porting is good, polishing the intake is counter productive. Leave it as rough as possible. Air and fuel will mix better. We used to race stock cars 35 to 40 years ago. The class we were in did not allow headers or aluminum intake manafolds. I took an Edelbrock intake and ground off all the lettering, painted it, covered in dirt and oil and never got cought with it.

The term " port and polish" is from the 1960's. We have learned so much since then. The smoothest you want the ports is 80 grit sandpaper roll. Standard in any head porting kit. If you polish the port to a shiny finish you WILL KILL HP. Just carbide burr and sandpaper roll that's it

Just my experience.
