Love your tutorials. Just ordered the cowl and material to make cape and hood from your other tutorial. Hopefully I can get it all done before Mardi Gras so my tradition of masking as Batman is much improved this year. The look on little kids faces when they see Batman is priceless.
This has been immensely helpful. Thank you! I'm a sucker for Rubies masks because they're cheap and I always have to brainstorm how to make them look halfway decent.
Thanks so much for the video! I got the rubies Dark Knight cowl for like $20 on Amazon. Originally I couldn't figure out what to do with the neck to make it look good--no matter what I did it bubbled up in the back and looked ridiculous. I was reluctant at first, but cutting it off was definitely the way to go (though I ended up leaving more under the chin than you had). The plasti dip is good but you have to make sure not to overdo it, and make sure you spray it from a little ways away (if not you get all of these weird blotches and cracks in the mask. Thankfully it's easy to peel off and redo--and it came out much better the second time around. Pair it with a scuba head cover and you've got a pretty good looking cowl. Thanks!
Scott Bayles, you are blessed, skilled and talented man. I definitely would like to see another tutorial on how you did your neck and hood piece. Please let us know. :-)
This is awesome! I have the same cowl and had done some minor mods to it (cotton balls in the horns and one coat of platidip) which did improve the look. I was afraid to do anymore than that, but I'm totally going to try this now. Subscribed!
With the outfit it looks really similar to the Golden age cowl in his first appearance. I wonder if you could find a cowl just like the golden age though
Great video thanks. Also great to see another cos-playing Christian as well. God Bless and keep up the good work. ;) Seeing how you made the hood and cowl would be great if you have the time.
Scott- I am Barton Bones Cosplay on facebook buddy - think you just proved me wrong... I never thought any one could make a rubies Cowl look any good... but you did buddy... I'm allergic to latex so it counts me out on many of their masks. Although the new plastic Batman belts are quite good to use as a base for Robin, Red Hood, and Nightwing too...I've liked and subscribed and sharing your videos on my pages ;)
Interesting and informative. As commented in here earlier, you need to show how you modified the Matty cowl. A lot of us have that piece and want to make it look right.
+Scott Bayles, I really enjoyed this video you did with the Batman Cowl to return it to its custom shape with a spray of the Plexie Dip. i also enjoyed the Batman cape and hood one piece video please make more videos of Batman or any other heros. im lean a little something from them i enjoy them alot👍👌. I also have a question in this video where did you get this Batman costume send me or reply back the link of the website of where the costume came from. im a huge Batman fan and im collecting all batman items. thank you for your time and work Scott👍hope to see more videos thank you.
Thanks, Joseph! I actually made this Batman costume myself from head to toe. You can check out some of my other vids. I have one for almost each piece of the costume.
Is there a way to make the mask bigger? I have a rather large noggin, also, I have an existing 1989 style mask, however, putting it on and pulling it over my head tends to knock my hearing aid out! Would there be a way to prevent this?
Thanks for all the feedback, folks! As soon as I get my hands on another Matty Cowl, I will definitely post a video on how to repaint the face. In the meantime, I'm working on a "How to Make Superhero Boots" video that should be up within a week.
Thank you, Andrew! I just uploaded the boot tutorial. I hope you enjoy. And if you'd like to keep up with what we're doing shoot me a friend request on Facebook. Bless you too.
Scott Bayles Is there a way to make the ears shorter? If not, could these modifications be done on a rubies dark Knight cowl instead of a arkham city one?
masterljreddead21 I believe the Dark Knight cowls are vinyl rather than latex. The plasti-dip will only work on latex. If the cowl is vinyl, it won't adhere to it. But, for vinyl cowls you can use a hair dryer to remove the wrinkles and then use dupli-color vinyl paint.
I know there are few methods for the plasti dip but do you just spray it all over the cowl straight from the can or do you spray from the can and then paintbrush over it ? Any feedback would be appreciated .
Hey love the video, I'm going to be working on this same project, but I was wondering if you had any tips for shortening the ears, I personally don't like the long ears
Just picked up my Rubies Cowl and am currently on the balloon step, I'm curious do you have any tips on how to shorten the ears? I have never been a big fan of long ears on the cowl. Thanks.
I watched this a thousand times k finished my batsuit and my friend has multiple bullet proof vests and he bugging me and telling me that I should add kevlar to the suit reply if yo u think I should do this
Great video, it looks like u modified the eyebrow markings on the adam west cowl, whats the best way to do that w/out messing it up? I am also looking for ways to change the colors on the mattel 66 bat cowl, any ideas? thanks.
Good eye! Yes, the Mattel Cowl was also modified. The way to do this is use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat up and peel off the existing eyebrows. Then use a foam brush to apply a couple layers of black acrylic paint to the face. Then use light blue acrylic paint for the eye brows. You can probably find a template for the face online or buy one from Chuck Williams Studios on etsy.
Scott Bayles Do those eyebrows come off easily when you apply the heat from a dryer? I am assuming you re-painted the entire face before re-doing the brows? Did you re position the nose line also?
mrlionel1965 Yes and no. The eyebrows came off fairly easily, but be patient with them. And I did not change the positioning of the nose line, but I have a friend who repainted his and he widened the nose lines so that they touch the corners of the eyes. It turned out really cool.
Scott -- Lee here- what are these like for hard wearing.... and size wise i'm a 25 head and allergic to latex.. I'm thinking of trying to line or coat the inside some how.......brilliant cape video too buddy...
Hey Lee. It really depends. They are not always the same size. Some are slightly bigger and others smaller. My head is 22.5 and on most of these cowls I have to tighten them up on me.
wow this is amazing im going to apply it on the next Batman cowl i buy thanks for showing this technique. can you do a how to modify or make a wolverine mask?
When I did this, the mask was too big so I cut the back and chin like he said, and then covered the cracks with a line of electrical tape and plastidiped over them. Depending on how many coats are applied, you may still have barely noticeable lines, but imo, it looks better than the crack and with enough coats, it'll conceal the outline of the tape.
thanks for the insight. I was going to try the technique on 3/4 BvS cowl. but the quality is really bad so went with the arkham cowl and so far turning out great. Have you tried lowering the ears or any insight if it could be done?
Out of Curiosity, Which DOJ mask did you use Scott? The only latex one i can find has a fake mouth piece covering the opening. I want to use the DOJ style! lol.
Scott, this video is good and informative. A couple of questions though. Are you familiar with the "Zombie-Batman mask?" I recently purchased one and cut out the zombie-looking parts. It left a huge gap in the lower half of the face. Would your technique work on tightening it up? It's a different design than The Rubie's Arkham mask.
Will you make a tutorial on how to modify rubies arkham city gloves? Heard a lot of bad things about them, but they're the only arkham city gloves I can afford and after seeing what you've done with the cowl I think there might be some hope.
I currently am in the middle of modding these using similar methods. I cut the hand part off (it's oversized and ridiculous brand new) and bought some tactical gloves on Amazon. I then blew up a balloon inside the gauntlet to stretch it out, and I plastidiped by hanging the end of the balloon on a hook and painting while the balloon was inside the gauntlet to give it a good shape. That's as far as I've gotten, and I plan on glueing EVA foam on the inside to make it snug on my arm.
Very helpful since I'm buying this off Amazon. Though I'm skipping removing the neck because I'm making it into the 1989 version.
@Caleb Whitworth the 1989 cowl had a neck, so it would look like it.
This literally helped me so much I thought I wasn't going to have a Batman cowl for my cosplay thank you so much : )
Im dying to know how you attach the cape to the cowl and make the neck area look so good. A video on that would be awesome.
Andy Gordon Just filmed it today.

Rest In Peace Adam West, you will be missed.
Oh gosh you are so freaking useful you’ve just now given me hope on finding other ways to do something so thank you

I followed your instructions for my batfleck cowl and the results are amazing! Made a cheap cowl look great! Plastidip is magic! Thanks man!
happy to help
I just got my cowl today & tomorrow I just have to plasti dip it, your tips were very helpful
I have a Dark Knight rubies cowl that looks great, and I’m ordering a bvs one for my costume, and this helps a lot
Scott Bayles, you are blessed, skilled and talented man. I definitely would like to see another tutorial on how you did your neck and hood piece. Please let us know. :-)

The "Batman kiss" got you a like!
I tried this with the dark knight cowl. I am really happy the way it turned out. thankyou for making the tutorial
bobby henshall That's great. I'd love to see how it turned out.
That's amazing. I used the balloon method before seeing this video to expand my rubies Usurus before painting it.
Great suggestions. I love modifying funky rubies masks too.
Cheers for the tutorial Scott. I've been wracking my brain on how to make a cowl for my GCPD Batman from Superheavy, and Urathane ones are too bulky.
With the outfit it looks really similar to the Golden age cowl in his first appearance. I wonder if you could find a cowl just like the golden age though
Great video thanks. Also great to see another cos-playing Christian as well. God Bless and keep up the good work. ;)
Seeing how you made the hood and cowl would be great if you have the time.
Thanks Richard! Be sure to check out our ministry on Facebook: facebook.com/CostumersforChrist
I'll be doing that now.
Yes it will done the batman suit is cool

Thanks, buddy! Glad to hear it =)
It was so funny when I heard him say "it looks like Batman's head got run over by the batmoble"
Interesting and informative. As commented in here earlier, you need to show how you modified the Matty cowl. A lot of us have that piece and want to make it look right.
Fantastic tutorial! Who'da thunk a Rubies cowl could look so good...?
Great job! Thank you for taking the time to make this...
Im re modling my house and i might make my room like yours.
Love the cosplay and how it’s based off Arkham city
I'm looking to make a Green Lantern uniform for my next science fiction convention.
I'm going to echo the urgings of others interested in a video on modifying the Matty Collector cowl!
Awesome bro I like how you blew the balloon inside the cowl I think I'm gonna do that too
Thanks a lot for this..been looking for a video like this for a while.
This is awesome!! Thank you!
this was an awesome video!!! I would like to see you make a video how you put together your cowl and cape pieced together.
eloy zendejo Just filmed the cape and hood video today.
Awesome!!!

Great Video. I'm going to try it with my flash cowl
Awesome video, please could you do a cape and cowl build
Could you please do a different cowl? I would really like to see what the Keaton or Bale one would look like once you completed these steps.
Scott would love to see this done for the keaton mask the arkham looks good
Scott:the most important part of a superheros costume is the mask
Superman: Oh please
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing, I'm modding mine for an upcoming event. Any chance that cowl/cape combo tutorial is coming soon?
Patrick Daugherty Just filmed that one today!
Just wondering, has the spray held up on the latex. no peeling or cracking or anything. also it dosent deteriorate the latex faster does it?
Have you ever painted one of these cowls? I'm looking to do a blue and grey batman.
Is there a video of the cowl painted blue? I'd love to see how that turned out
Is there a way to make the mask bigger? I have a rather large noggin, also, I have an existing 1989 style mask, however, putting it on and pulling it over my head tends to knock my hearing aid out! Would there be a way to prevent this?
so cool! costume looks awesome too!
it was amazing that's the best thing that I've seen to do with batman
trimming it is like a bale cowl in arkham games lol good idea
Thanks for all the feedback, folks! As soon as I get my hands on another Matty Cowl, I will definitely post a video on how to repaint the face. In the meantime, I'm working on a "How to Make Superhero Boots" video that should be up within a week.

***** Thank man! I sent a pm on Facebook. You'll have to check your "other" folder to find it though.
Scott Bayles Is there a way to make the ears shorter? If not, could these modifications be done on a rubies dark Knight cowl instead of a arkham city one?

cowl looks great! Nice video! :)
what cowl are you using?
stupid question, nevermind.
I forgot in was in the title. duh
Thank you so much for all the great tutorials! How do you get the bat logo on the bodysuit?
“I Just Killed Adam West” Welp That Didn’t Age Well Haha!
Rushed to the comments… rip
Hey love the video, I'm going to be working on this same project, but I was wondering if you had any tips for shortening the ears, I personally don't like the long ears
Just picked up my Rubies Cowl and am currently on the balloon step, I'm curious do you have any tips on how to shorten the ears? I have never been a big fan of long ears on the cowl. Thanks.
I definitely want to turn my head next time I"m in the Batsuit. A How To on the Collar would be great!
I watched this a thousand times k finished my batsuit and my friend has multiple bullet proof vests and he bugging me and telling me that I should add kevlar to the suit reply if yo u think I should do this
If it looks cool then yeah
Depends on what suit/look your going for. If it’s comic like in the video then no. If your going for an armored look then yes.
Do it if it looks cool
Which Batman costume is that? Is that the new batman adventures costume?
Awesome Video i tried it and ut worked !!
Great video, it looks like u modified the eyebrow markings on the adam west cowl, whats the best way to do that w/out messing it up? I am also looking for ways to change the colors on the mattel 66 bat cowl, any ideas? thanks.

gonebats The Adam West cowl tutorial has been filmed and I'll post it next week!
MTVs best kiss award goes to Scott Bayles 😂😂😂
Could you share the store links? Of the cowl and of the costume in the video thumbnail? Thanks
Hey. I'm thinking of buying a vinyl rubies bvs cowl. Will vinyl paint have the same effect as the plasti dip?
3:31 KNOW WE KNOW WHO KILLED ADAM!!
How did you get the Batman emblem on your final costume?
yes please make a tutorial on the hood and cape
wow this is amazing im going to apply it on the next Batman cowl i buy thanks for showing this technique. can you do a how to modify or make a wolverine mask?
No problem. I'll add that to my list.
Will this work on the Rubie's Dawn of Justice Batman cowl as well?
Can i use cotton instead of foam for the ears?
Where did you buy that suit though it would be perfect for the cowl I have
Would this work with the rubies dark knight cowl?
Hi love you’re videos they are great but could I ask were would u get that cowl online?
Can you make the nite owl costume?
love the cowl! But how did you make the batman gloves because I thinking about making some for my suit?
When I did this, the mask was too big so I cut the back and chin like he said, and then covered the cracks with a line of electrical tape and plastidiped over them. Depending on how many coats are applied, you may still have barely noticeable lines, but imo, it looks better than the crack and with enough coats, it'll conceal the outline of the tape.
Hey Mr.Bayles I was wondering where or wich site did you by your Batman Arkham cowl? Keep it up with the awesome tips for costumes.
Vincent Villegas I got from Amazon. That seems to be the best price around.
Good look & thanks for the response.
After spraying it with plastidip, how long does it take for it to stay on it permanently? I had a little rub off
How did you add the symbol on the spandex can you make a video about it
thanks for the insight. I was going to try the technique on 3/4 BvS cowl. but the quality is really bad so went with the arkham cowl and so far turning out great. Have you tried lowering the ears or any insight if it could be done?
@scott bayles, did you make that batman costume yourself or did you buy it? it looks amazing and i was wondering how i could get one
Can i ask were can i get that batman costume you have ???
Could we get that cape tutorial? Thatd be great.
Playback speed to 1.25x, thank me later. Great vids
Were did you purchase the costume you are wearing
Has anyone ever told you that you sound like Nicolas Cage?
BobbyW he does😂
Agreed... you're more of a cowl protector. :-p
Did you buy that suit or make it, because im looking for one.
hey you know what I'm going to be Batman for Halloween
Out of Curiosity, Which DOJ mask did you use Scott? The only latex one i can find has a fake mouth piece covering the opening. I want to use the DOJ style! lol.
and scott, where did you get your batman gloves? if you made it, please make a tutorial. thanks in advance.
+luigi acosta Yep, I made them too. And I do promise a tutorial on those in the future.
3:30 "I just killed Adam West"
Me:😐
How much will it be for u too make a batman suit like that for me if u make then for sale
I got a Batman cowl (dark knight)for £5 on Ebay and it was formed 100% fine. NO dents! (:
I've recently brought a batman cowl off eBay is there a way to get rid of the smell?
Will you make a tutorial on how to modify rubies arkham city gloves? Heard a lot of bad things about them, but they're the only arkham city gloves I can afford and after seeing what you've done with the cowl I think there might be some hope.
+Jakub Bakalarski I will see what I can do.
I currently am in the middle of modding these using similar methods. I cut the hand part off (it's oversized and ridiculous brand new) and bought some tactical gloves on Amazon. This is nice! neck/cape tutorial please!!!
George Ulke On it's way!
what happened to the Adam west cowl video?
Can this also work for the dark knight cowl?
Now what if i want to turn this cowl into a Batman Beyond style cowl? any advice or perhaps another video?
I'll have to think about that one... My first thought is to simply wear a spandex hood underneath that covers your face.
That really helps a lot! Thanks
