So in todays episode I have quite a few jobs to get through, the first of which being stripping all the aluminum parts down that need to be sent out for anodizing so that they arrive back in time for me to rebuild and film them this was simple enough as it was only the wheels and rear brake that needed stripping, so it was a simple case of pulling the wheel bearings, removing the tyres and tubes from the rims and then removing all the spokes. For the rear brake that was simple too as it was only the brake shoes and pivot to remove from the casing.
These parts were then bundled up and sent out for anodising and while they are away I fully restored the swing arm making full use of my new vapor blasting set up, but I'm getting ahead of myself. My first job was to pull it all apart which was simple enough as its only nuts, bolts and bearings to press out.
when the arm and pivot were all stripped i set about cleaning them up in the vapor blaster this leaves them with a "as new" finish for most of the parts that was the end but for the swing arm to restore the OEM look i needed to remove all the defects i could sensible remove and then i had to give the flat surfaces a slight polish so that i could reinstate the brushed effect that Honda used on these arms.
After that it was simply a case of re-plating all the hardware and them putting it all back together again in reverse order and of course not forgetting to apply the awesome new PRO-LINK decal.
And that wraps up this episode.
So I hope you will enjoy the first episode of the series and ill see you all again very soon,
Enjoy

Honda CR250 Restoration - Part 3 - Swingarm Restoration
Outstanding attention to detail! I’m jealous of your new vapor blaster, they make aluminum parts look better than new! Amazing results sir!
Thank you so much :)
Yeah, i'm going to check on the price of those here in NZ. I'm pretty sure i will need to be sitting down when i get a quote :-))
@@RRCRestoration The swing arm came out like new! What grit did you sand the swing arm with and which pads did you use to polish? Did you use any compound? Also, did you coat it after or is it the raw finish? Thanks in advance! 🍻 I'm looking to the same thing to mtb frames in the future
3D printing for the chain guide, as long as you can get the old one back in 1 piece I am sure someone could print it
Yeah that's my problem there isn't enough of the old one left to get accurate dimensions :( but it is looking like i will have to go down the 3d printed route
Ooooo! He's getting posh now with a vapour blaster! This is definitely the very best therapy available for an engineers soul. Cheers!
I am indeed I wonder what cool bit of kit i'll get next ;) Glad you enjoyed it :)
You should have millions of subscribers. I've never seen restoration so soothing with so much attention to detail and thoroughness. I genuinely mean that from my heart. Thank you for what you do. Pretty cool accent too buddy. 👍🏻
Thank you so much 😀 that means a lot to me :)
Possibly the rare chain guide parts could be 3D scanned & printed in nylon. Sometimes it's the only realistic option for rare parts. Vapour Blasters deliver amazing results.
Yeah its looking more and more like i will need to go down the 3d printed route
@@RRCRestoration the good thing is with modern nylon resin casting/3d printing the part can be better than stock
Mill a block of delrin or nylon perhaps?
@@davidgibson5756 yea would much rather find a machine shop that got delrin or nylon to do it, no offence to 3D printer fans, but knowing how amazing the bike will become in the end, and if there was to be a 3D printed plastic piece on it, well a milled piece of delrin / nylon would just look better.
@@RRCRestoration maybe partner up with another UA-cam channel that does 3d printing too
Masterful!! If only everyone took this much pride in their work, well done!
Thank you so much :)
Wonder if a 3-D printed chain guide in some kind of PVC would make the cut?
I found 2 for him and sent him the links via his Facebook page
@@Rust_valley_adventures I’m also looking for one. Do you have the link?
Nylon might be a better choice. Something like a Nylon6 or PA11.
@@stevenodonnell8871 it won't let me post the links ?
@@Rust_valley_adventures even just write the name it not in the form of a link 👍🏻
Can you not source someone to 3d print that part for you?
Id rather try and find an original Honda part but if i cant then yeah it'll need to be 3d printed.
Your attention to detail on that swingarm is amazing. Episode well worth waiting for.
Much appreciated! :)
If you could get a technical drawing of the swing arm piece, I imagine that you could have one 3D printed.
Yeah its looking like i may need to go down that route.
The comment section on this channel is really something else ... 😂
Top job as usual. Why isn't there some enterprising young individual 3D printing these hard to get parts like the lower chain guide?
Thank you :), I can only assume the demand isn't there or its very difficult to find an intact block to re-model for 3d printing?
I've been waiting so long for this. Thank you man. God bless you.
Yeah I apologize for the wait, the next episode will be out in a week or so ;)
@@RRCRestoration oh no worries. Take your time.
Great job , anyone can see that you care for the bike and your work. Can you tell us the products you use to replate ?
While a completely different bike this takes me back to my old Yamaha red DT 50 from the same period. It went everywhere, not fast and not slow but it kept going and it's exhaust fumes reminded everyone of where it had been. 😁
I had a DT50 back in the day too, such fun little bikes :)
That’s the bike I learned to ride on. My cousin’s when is visit Portugal in the summer. Awesome memories!
Maybe you 3D print that plastic chain guide? There are some very special plastics you can get printed that are more durable.
3 -D print the part, aka chain guide.
Its looking like it will end up that way.
Ohhhh 😍😍😍 now almost all of my favourite channels has a vapour blaster! Wish i had the money for one also😍
Why don't you find someone who can 3d print the chain guard?
I have someone but they are a last resort I'd much rather try and find an original Honda part first ;)
I don't know if/how well it would work but you might see if you can find some one who could 3d print you that chain guide...it looks like it is made of nylon...or you could probaly have it machined out of delrin as an alternative. Perhaps find another youtuber who does machining for their videos and collaborate.
Thats not a bad idea i quite like the idea of collaborating with another channel that does machining , any suggestions?
@@RRCRestoration can't think of any specifically but there are lots of videos on you tube about machining delrin probably best to try some one close to you
Could you have the chain guard/guide 3D printed?
I could but i'd much rather find an OEM one if possible
Great episode. I'm a vapor honer as well and it's a revolutionary tool. One piece of advice I can offer, if I may be so bold, is to make sure your parts are already as clean as possible before honing. The VH is a honing tool, not a cleaning tool. If you try and hone greasy parts, eventually your media will become stained with grease and you'll end up with a blotchy finish. The key to a good finish is clean media and a clean part. For some truly spectacular results, try cleaning your parts, then do a very light dry blast, and then hone. The finish will absolutely glow. Of course, dry blasting is only recommended on parts that are able to withstand it. It's a little more labor intensive, but it can be an amazing difference. Also, check out some of the vapor honing pages on facebook...some great knowledge there.
Get a chainguide 3d printed! Not an original part but just as good if you dont mind it
I was going to say just have the chain guard 3D printed. I then saw you already had the other one printed. So either someone modelled it for you or you found it. The other guard shouldn't be too bad to design in CAD actually. Print it in Nylon and you have what you need.
Edit - I think I just assumed that you have a 3D printer. I shouldn't assume that, lol. But, many of us "Crafty-Gents" have them already. Mine turns 6 this year, lol.
Yeah i found a guy in France that had a model for printing the chain slider as this is another obsolete part to find in the OEM material, sadly he didn't have a model for the chain guide but if i cant get one i'll need to find someone with an intact block to get me dimensions and detailed pics so i can have one 3d printed.
I really should invest in a 3d printer lol
Such a nice job, well worth the wait cheers dude!
Have you thought about getting the chain guide 3d printed?
Thank you, I apologise for the long wait time :( Yeah its looking like i may need to go down the 3d printed route as an original just isn't appearing
@@RRCRestoration no meed to apologise! 👍
Io il cerchione lo farei di un colore sgargiante la ruota e liscia bravo ma è a polvere di deserto o no io lo farei bicolore
Excellent as always! Also happy new year to George - presumably still recovering from his new year vacuum excesses......
Thank you very much, Yeah he really overdone it haha
Maybe print this lower chain part in nylon by using a 3D-printer? It doesn’t look that complicated, maybe by using Tinkercad you can model this part by yourself and let some company print it for you. Great footage again 👍
Yeah its looking like i may need to go down the 3d printed route if i cant find an original Honda part. Cheers for the info
maybe someone can 3d print one of those chain guides.
They must've moved to rear disk in 87. I had an 87 Cr250 as a kid and im 95% positive it had disk brakes on the back wheel.
yeah you're right , 86 was the last year that you got a drum on the rear.
I think there may be some dealers over here in Austraila with NOS of the part your looking for can you share the part number if this item it seems Toowoomba motorcycles may have had one but their website has been closed and the shop may have been bought out P.s im from Glasgow living in Austraila
Hi, the part number is 52145KS6305.
been waiting for this video , and didn't disappoint me. that vapour blaster is fantastic, bet you are pleased with that. that chain guide, could you get one 3d printed or maybe that might wear out to quick, just a thought.
You’re a wizard, aren’t ya? No regular man lays a decal that clean in one go.
Haha i think i just got lucky this time, usually its a disaster

我要买那台高压水洗机 please
Merci
The vapor blaster is seriously cool kit. What would determine when to use that versus the sand blasting cabinet?
The vapor blaster is used if the part is going to be bare metal or if there is critical tolerances that need to be maintained as vapor blasting is very gentle in comparison to dry blasting
I’m thoroughly enjoying your resto videos. Thank you!
I love how you loaded a fresh round into the chamber of your impact driver prior to use! 😂
As with all your other restorations I've watched, I'm in awe of your commitment and attention to detail. Bravo 👏
Not only is the restoration work top notch, all the editing, cuts, and choices you make are *muah* so pleasing to watch.
Thank you so much for your kind comment :)
You might wanna put something on the inside of the window of that blaster so the water beats down and it's easier to see.
Im going to fit a wiper ;)
Awesome video as usual!! Could u explain your plating process?
Could you get your missing part 3D printed somehow?
I can but i'd rather try and find the original Honda part if i can
Inspiring. Did you replace the rubber parts with new rubber? Vapor blaster is amazing. Thinking about restoring an old Honda as a side hobby, UA-cam is great. Domo arigato.
Looks like your blasting cabinet could use a windshield wiper!
Im planning on fitting one lol
The brushed finish on that beautifully polished swingarm is a work of art. It's so simple, yet so effective for the visual impact. I love attention to details like that. The same can be said for how beautifully you restored the bolts and nuts, colour and all. Honda loves a good bare-metal frame & swingarm on their high end sportbikes. So does Aprilia with their mirror finish. Always had a soft spot for it, and kinda miss that kind of flair on the Yamaha and KTM I owned.
Thank you very much! :)
Beautiful job!! Even the editing is flawless 😁😁😁🤩🤩🤩 Well deserved vapour blaster!!!🇨🇦🇨🇦
Thank you so much 😁
For the brushed finish on the swing arm, are you going to spray that with a clear lacquer to protect it or just leave as is?
It will be left as is as aluminum forms it own clear oxide layer when exposed to oxygen making itself corrosion resistant but as a bit of extra protection it will get a coat of acf 50 before going on the bike.
It's so nice to see a restoration channel in which the person knows how to paint. Paint can ruin all the hard work, and you do it right. Not long ago, I started watching some guy trying to rebuild an old z1000, and when he got to the paint job, the first thing he did was take the completely assembled rear shock and just sprayed red paint on it, over the spring, the rod, all of it. He did the same with everything without bothering to take it apart first, even the engine. I think that's considered a crime against humanity.
By far better than any Hollywood Blockbuster. Outfuckingstanding👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you
Does the vapour blasting process remove any hard coatings like anodizing? I'm restoring a 1987 FZR1000 and the frame & swingarm are both anodized clear and my plan is to vapour blast both of them.
😲 Wow! The amount of time you will saving yourself with this new Soda Blaster.
Could you get the missing piece 3D printed?
I could but i think it would be far nicer to try and get an original part.
Awesome job. Will the sand blaster get decommissioned or will the new vapor blaster work alongside the old fella? Also I tried searching for the piece your are looking for in my country with no luck. Can the piece veré recreated in 3D printing ? Maybe it can work out but it will lose its purity. 🤷🏽♂️
Nevertheless keep it up and stay safe my friend.
Polis port seem to make a similar lower chain guide but you might be lucky enough to find a used 1 on the bay of e's
OOoooohhhh! Vapor Blaster huh!! What EVER!!! it's just a super fancy super high pressure mini water cannon in a box!!! Just call it a water or aqua blaster. hat would have made more sense. VAPOR blaster makes it sound like it used steam or something. It's a water blaster. Vapor... HA!!!
Another fantastic video! Your attention to detail is awesome and your editing is outstanding! Keep it up, dude!
Plz KLX 250 bild video ❤️🇯🇵
I am assembling a model of 1994, and I have a pendulum of 1986, I checked it for catologists - everything is good, your model is clearly earlier than the year of manufacture!? I'm restoring a 1994 cr 250 myself
CHAIN GUIDE..
I believe that you can have one machined out of UHMW plastic. It's amazingly easy to machine with simple wood tools.
(I keep a stock of it up to 1" thick)
Your attention to detail is amazing. Great job!
Thank you very much :)
Beautiful! That is as factory fresh as you're going to get without a Delorean and a flux capacitor!

Love that comment! :)
Absolute superb transformation on that swing arm, best of all it was done with basic easy to find materials. 10/10 for your effort there bud. Where abouts are you? I'm in Dalgety Bay fife and currently breathing some life into a 2010 crf250r.
Love your channel
How did you find a chainslider for a '86 CR when I can't find one for a '99 Varadero. I have searched high and low, and given my money to a couple of those big parts companies that took the money with promises of sending the part only to keep it for a few months and have me hassle them for a refund. I have seen one or two on E-bay at stupid expense prices, and am loathe to pay that much for a bit of molded rubber.
I'm restoring an 87/88 Yamaha FZR 1000 Genesis, and are wondering about the factory finish on the alloy DeltaBox frame, was it bare alloy, or painted? Mine looks bare alloy and my bike although old and seen better days has not been "modified" or messed with, but ive had people swear that Yamaha painted the alloy silver at the factory. This might have been true for the 600s with the steel frame, and possibly the later Exups, but i'm pretty sure the first gen 87/88s had bare alloy. Can anyone in the comments help with a definite answer??
I've found one on ebay sourced out of Michigan, USA, but they only come in red, black, green, and blue. It is a set that comes with front and rear matching rollers/sliders.
*I've contacted the seller to ask if they make them in-house. If they do, I'm sure it can be machined in white.
2* I've found a "used: good condition" item state-side. Message me if you're still looking, I'll share what I've found.
Ha ha, remember back in the day the HUGE stickers on the swing arm, PRO LINK or FULL FLOATER🤣
Wow, great job! Please tell me, what is the white powder you use at 18.31 min. in combination with the boiled water?
And is there any chance to explain the proces in the steps between 19.21 min. and 20.46 min. What kind of products are you using and for what time do they have to be in the 'acid'(?)
Шикарно профессионально залипательно.Молодец я ни на минуту не пожалел что подписан на тебя. БРАВО
I love this man! 🔝🔝🔝I am the owner of a Ducati Supersport (1992) but the restore wasn't so accurated...😲
If you had the dimentions of the chain guard you could probably 3D print it or have someone. UA-camr Ronald Finger of Finger Print Workshop could do it for you.
I would have kept it in a safe deposit box. Amazing work!!! Greetings from Cordoba, Argentina.
May be email TM Designworks see if they might be able to help out with the chain guide. I didn't see any thing for a 1986 cr250 but they had stuff for atv's of the same year.
I love you man ! Thank you for such a detailed video !
Please make a video about your workshop! And what liquid’s do you use for cleaning parts ?
Fantastic! ive been debating 0n buying that vapour blasting cabinet, think you've just sold it for me. 😀 keep the great content coming out. looking forward to your next vid 👍
Hot foot moto I'm the US makes chain guides. They don't have the original colors, but they do have functional parts.
Very good job perfect 👌🏻...I'm curious for your process when you are cleaning the bolts what do you use?
Another cracking job
👍👍👍😜🏴🦕🦄😁✌️🤞
Don't spray the window on your vapor honer with the pressurized slurry, it will dull it quickly to the point of replacement. Replacing those windows are near impossible.
Magnificent job!!! Wow!
By any chance, do you have a video where you show the exact solution you are using for the plating of the hardware?
you can do my 86 mugan cr 125 next, it needs somebody like you to bring her back to life, you're so talented and have the tools for the job, can't wait for the next episode.
what kind of lubricant do you use? on what basis? this is an aluminum pendulum and therefore - a calcium base is needed! Very admired by you!!! now they make everything a million times worse, and in factories!
Damn you youtube its been 8 days... Why am i only getting notified about this video now!? Man that vapour blaster is something else its so good! Great work man!
¿Sabe alguien que proceso sigue para la limpieza y recuperacion de los tornillon? entiendo que es una especie de electrolisis pero ¿que productos y orden se utilizan? Enhorabuena por tu canal es muy bueno . Gracias
Love your videos, the standard you work to is second to none. Love the vapour blaster, a toy I definitely want! Any chance you can do a short video showing us the vapour blaster, the make and model, how it sets up and your opinion on it?
With out trawling through 500+ comments as someone else might of already mentioned this, But could you not get some Delrin block and make the chain guide 🤔
Очень хотел бы увидеть в работе 999s. Ты гипер крутой чел!👍
This lower chain gate would be a perfect Candidate for molding and making some replica with casting resin..
Hello can you tell me the products or name involved in the plating process Thank You Great Job.
Hello im inspired by your great work!! Can you please let me know what solutions have you used for the bolts?
Hi.
I didn't get an alert for this video, anyone else. Good thing I checked or I would be missing out.
May sound stupid but the old white pieces like that were pretty much all made out of nylon for friction . Could you get dimensions and have one 3D printed ?
I am sohail from pakistan i realy love your work
And wating your next episode
Whear you country
try to get in touch with Claudio from Mastercross in Italy, he has tons of new old stock parts for almost every bike, even some factory parts!
Surprised you didn't put a bit of grease on those wheel adjustment sliders. I know they don't move often but still metal on metal contact
Hello! Great video!
Did you ever mentionned where we can find products to zinc plate what we need to? Thanks
Which kind of chemicals and fuids do you use for cleaning the bolts ...? Citric acid and whin one more?
OMG, You were always the best before this one. But now even better than that!!
Bike magic !!
Tell us whats in the contaiers whats the powders and liquids ? I carnt hqve a go if i dint now what it is sir ps great job thou
Adding to my comment below. Those suppliers also have the swing arm chain slider.
Have you tried cmnsl.. looks like they could have 1 for 28.00 🤘
A real pleasure to see such a beautiful restoration, and the attention to detail.. 👍👍 Can you give us the details of the products you use to remove the rust? I saw that there were different baths to do after the treatment . Thanks and bravo once again
