      @@theoldbankfisherman no, I still use eq but as I mainly water hunt I use the excalibur & CTX3030. The 3030 has better target identification system and can reject a lot of rubbish. The eq is a great beach detector and can do the water easily as well though I know a lot of people who have had water ingress problems into battery compartment. @@Bikepacking Once you have eliminated iron based targets you are left with foil, ali, tin, lead, coins, silver and gold. Problem is all of these could be gold from foil to coins range. Experience using a detector in water will come as to what to avoid and what to dig. I still dig a huge amount of ring pulls, but thats the nature of the hobby :-) As for detector the EQ is a good machine, so is the nokta simplex if you dont want to spend as much. Both have their quirks and features.

    18k should be same number...

    • @SandyToesDetecting
      @SandyToesDetecting  2 роки тому +1

      Though I dont understand the full science behind it its the thickness and the shape of object that effects the radio waves reflections / disruption and the target ID number given. In an ideal world all 18k would give off the same number and pull tabs could be completely rejected. These appear in the "gold" ID as well. Maybe one day one manufacturer would make a detecter to just show gold. I would be first to buy it.

      Depends on the detector. I have a CTX3030 and the target numbers are much more open on that, the equinox compresses a lot of the numbers into one area which is not overly helpful.

    I have one sitting here and I don't like it. They crunched the vdi scale. It was a bad idea. So when I was out lets say at a pre 1900 site that was not super junky I was digging all kinds of junk because of the vdi number system as compared to say the whites I have here. My as well dig all metal then and get a all metal type detector instead of a 900 dollar pos that has trouble detecting my .45 cal .999 silver bullet. Well I should say it detects it but its showing a 31. Now on "other" machines I would be saying oh thats a penny including my 705. And "other" machines it would in the high 80s. I don't care for it at all and its not staying in this stable thats for sure. And for you dig them all folks I gotta laugh at you. Why buy a discrimination type detector? No point if your digging them all.

  • @MrBottlecapBill
    @MrBottlecapBill 6 років тому +2

    Interesting. Watch the at pro and gold vdi videos. The pro is clearly superior with a much better ID on gold targets. These are all over the board........quite terrible. This machine is basically useless in any urban environment unless you just want to cherry pick silver.

    • @SandyToesDetecting
      @SandyToesDetecting  6 років тому +1

      Thanks for information, I have never used the at pro. The eq has quite a compressed TID range on gold compared to the ctx3030. For a example on that a small gold earring or very thin ring can be 01 but a large heavy gold ring can be 38 same as a large gold coin. Having said that the 3030 which is my main detector I find a lot of gold with.

    • @MrBottlecapBill
      @MrBottlecapBill 6 років тому +1

      I guess my problem is not so much the range...........but that every item is in a different range. With the pro most gold falls into specific ranges, with of course a few outliers for those weird pieces, but even those lock on pretty hard. If your gold can be anywhere from 1 to 30 on a scale of 1 to 50 with no difference in tone or ID stability to trash, you're stuck having to dig everything to find it. In an urban setting that means you have to dig every piece of iron, every piece of foil, every piece of can, or can tab, every bottle cap...........you see where I'm going with this. You may as well save money and buy a single tone 1980's detector and dig it all. The machine is great at the finding, not so good at the classifying. I feel like minelab worried too much about iron, to the detriment of the rest of a "hobby" machines abilities.

    • @SandyToesDetecting
      @SandyToesDetecting  6 років тому +1

      In the end I sold the equinox as it was not doing it for me in the water where I detect mostly.
      My main machine is the ctx3030, then the excalibur and I also have a fisher cz21 as backup.
      With the first 2 you can tell fairly easily if its iron or bottle caps. Pull tabs are always going to be an issue.
      Personal I dont spend too much time looking at the ID but listen to the sounds detector is given.
      I must spend some more time talking to someone I know why has at pro, though he tends to use the excalibur and eq in preference.

    • @MrBottlecapBill
      @MrBottlecapBill 6 років тому +2

      Yes it's strange. You cant' find modern coins because they are steel and come in as iron but bottle caps which are also steel come in as gold. It makes no sense to me.
