The do-it-yourself knee surgery thing leads me to believe he is just a general practice dr who liked the idea of being a small town dr, but when he actually achieved that he realized a general practitioner in a small far-flung town is very different than being the same in the city. Suddenly he has to be prepared for every possible medical issue these people have, and he certainly was not trained for most of that. He is doing his best for his town, but that results in him being holed up at home just studying
Plus with having to rescue the farmer from the mines and SC, I'm sure he's had to learn some surgical procedures lol

Honestly, although Harvey is a bit weird. I think that the part where he wonders if Maru could use some sunscreen on her shoulders is actually him being considered in a way. As a black person often times people think we don't need sunscreen, but we do. Just like everyone else, we can get skin cancer and because it isn't as obvious as on lighter skin; it can be overlooked until it's too late.

More evidence that Harvey doesn't have a thing for Maru: Penny thinks Harvey has a thing for Maru... but she ALSO thinks Marnie and Lewis aren't in any kind of relationship, showing that she's clueless about this kind of thing. She's wrong both times.
One difference that you can argue in those cases is that she would have more evidence for the first case because Maru and Penny are closer friends than she is with either Marnie or Lewis

i think that harvey wonders aloud if maru needs sunscreen because she is the closest thing he has to a friend (minus the farmer). no one really talks with him or respects him, like you said, so i bet he feels like an outcast. its hard to integrate yourself into a community when no one tajes you seriously and when youre socially awkward. i just dont think hes aware that hes not supposed to say that out loud
And with her skin color, darker skin doesn't burn or get cancer as easily but when it does it's harder to tell.
I think so too. Harvey reads more as akward then actively malicious or flirty. Like he's just a guy who's concerned but dosnt know how to express that.

I love Harvey, I always thought of him as a very normal person in a game with a lot of weird people. It's my personal headcanon that Harvey has really bad anxiety, and it got worse after he lost a patient during a surgery. He moved out to Pelican town so he can focus more on individual patients, and he's so health conscious because he's afraid his flaws as a doctor will lead to more of his patients dying.
With the book- It's not uncommon for doctors to look up and study surgeries before attempting them, so he could be anticipating one of the people in town needing a knee surgery soon? Maybe Marlon or Lewis since they're so active despite being on the older side.

You also get a lot of requests for stuff to rub on sore knees (and toes). Harvey is just trying to anticipate his patients needs.
Marlon mentions having a bad leg, maybe Harvey wants to help with it? I thought he was just a GP though not a surgeon, unless this is a "doctors do everything" kind of thing.
@@OriginalAkivara I'm not sure? Most surgeries are done by specialists, so I would think he sends most people to Zuzu city for it. But in an emergency, he would need to perform life-saving operations on his own.
He might just be reading it because he finds it interesting. After marriage, Harvey will go to medical conventions to keep up with the latest treatments, and he does read books on anatomy on his own time too. Could just be the anxiety making him read those types of books with a "just-in-case" mindset.
Perhaps he could be attempting to fix someone's legs. Someone who's legs are already broken. Obviously he's preparing to do surgery on the dwarf.
He helped Sandy escape from the criminal enterprise that she's fled from by performing plastic surgery on her and now he's also hiding from the mob. And he's Krobus.
I honestly don't think Harvey steals fro you when you have a forced hospital visit. Stuff you lose in the mine when you downed in combat is either dropped, or ransacked at that time. Also, Harvey (to the best of my knowledge) is never the one to find you in the mines.
I believe dwarf is actually the thief. I think he actually admits to it at one point.
This is further supported by the fact that, if you collapse in the mines, you can commission the adventuring guild to get one of your items back, so theoretically your items are just tumbling around on a mine floor (or they have a deal with the forementioned Dwarf) rather than being pilfered by Harvey
No, obviously, the guild are the thieves. Come on. They just do happen to be able to "find" some of your stolen stuff that they sell back to you! They're working you on both angles!

@@777SilverPhoenix777 When i was starting the game and i passed out after 2am and got the card that says "i saw someone rummaging thorugh your pockets" i always thought "in such a little town how can you not recognize who is doing that" after i met the dwarf i instantly connected the dots
One of my favorite marriage dialogues of his is something like “I’m not the most exciting guy but I’ll be loyal to you.” And that pretty much sums Harvey up for me. He’s not the most exciting marriage candidate, but he’s like the most normal one to me. And he’s super sweet 🥰

Like you said, he is just a guy, trying his best. He is sweet and albeit awkward I don't find him creepy, unlike Clint. Actually i would dare say Clint is a dark reflection of Harvey character wise.
I also quite like him in Shane's event, were he saves his life but also recognizes that he needs psychiatric help and counseling and even recommends him to one he knows.
That's some good stuff right there.
A lot of people seem to find Harvey's acceptance of his limitations as depressing whilst i think they are inspiring.
I wanted to be a paleontologist when i was younger, yet i could never pull off that career path for myself, I was able to keep that interest alive thru paleo art.
I think in that regard Harvey is a good reminder that people are multifaceted and many things can make you happy and fulfilled, even things you didn't plan.
I could go on and on about Harvey and my own theories headcanons of what transpired in his career.
But as usual you really shine in your scriptwriting and pacing. Loved this one as usual!

I think Harvey's sunscreen comment could also be read as him just, not thinking of the implication of what he was saying before voicing a concern.
Working with Maru a lot, of course they would be close, so he would care about her plenty.
I've definitely had moments like that, and I'm sure almost everyone else has too.
Also because skin cancer is both less common and more deadly for people with darker skin. "I can help my friend and employee not get cancer!!! 😍” wins out over "oh no that sounded way better inside my head someone quick, go get Penny to accost Maru with the sunscreen.mp3?"

I’ll never forget that 8 heart scene where Harvey talks about there are dreams that you’ll never reach because that’s just how life shakes out, and it’s healthier to accept that than to be crushed by it. It’s bittersweet, but the point I’m at in life right now, it helps a lot
On the other hand, as you grow older you come up with new dreams and they're often more actionable and achievable than the grand sweeping ideals of childhood. It's just a change in life, you're not failing!
His luau dialogue makes sense when you know any doctors. My mom is a dentist and whenever she meets someone new she later tells me they need braces or that their teeth are fake. When your job is watching out for those things it hard ignoring them
Half the rabbit photos I see get comments like, "That bunny needs to lose weight," or "Stop feeding carrots, they are bad for rabbits!" Totally agree.
I can confirm that when I worked as a paramedic, sometimes I would look at the veins in random peoples arms and think about how easy or difficult it would be to stick an IV needle in there. Sometimes it’s hard to really turn off your instincts when you do something for long enough.
👨⚕️ My personal Harvey theory is that he's much younger than we think, but he grows a mustache to match the community and to appear more professional. Ageism in the medical world is quite prevalent! I think he speedran his academics and then saw an opening for Pelican Town and took it, just so he could live up to his family of doctors. Because he's new and lonely, he probably is into Maru to a point, but he knows better than to act on it. Queue you, a brand new person just like him! He'd love to get to know you, but he's stuck behind a counter and you're running around too much to meet up. I think he's just a dweeb who's in too deep, but that's what makes him sweet
Nah, the game mentions he's one of the older bachelors and he also mentions that he was in medical school for 8 years. My guess is he's in his mid thirties.

So I dont think he is creepy with thinking if maru needs some sunscreen. Any boss of a small team of people will care about their employees unless they are emotionally cold people. And this also will extend to off work activities that you happen to meet each other in. It would be creepy if he directly offered to apply the sunscreen to her shoulders himself or start doing it without asking
Yeah. Like there is literally no mention of him liking Maru in that way. She's his employee after all. Of course a doctor would worry abt others
He is the doctor of the whole town and Maru is his assistant so him worrying and about her specifically makes a lot of sense

When you were describing the sun screen comment my mind automatically went to, he's worried about skin cancer risk and he queried about Maru specifically because they used to work together so he feels close and or comfortable around her.

Ig the media just doesn’t talk about skin cancer amongst poc, especially where I live, as it’s a majority white country.
I have a theory/Head Canon that Harvey was a medic or field doctor in the same war Kent fights in.
1. He has a poster comparing fighter planes. This can be interpreted as when we wanted to be a fighter pilot but when he was denied he ended up becoming a medic instead.
2. He wears a green coat instead of a white one typical of a doctor. This coat is quite similar to the one worn by Kent.
3. He has a line about having a patient who died under your care. It’s possible this line is him coping with having men who died under his care during the war. Especially as it seams unlikely that a small town doctor would have many patients who die.
I know there isn’t a ton of evidence for it but it feels like a possibility.
I like this theory but I think he was a doctor before entering the military. He's been to medical school, and medics only get like 12 weeks of training.

I think one of the things that almost everyone hates about Harvey even if it's not entirely his fault is that he charges you even though he's married to you, I mean, of course he needs to charge you for doing medical procedures and surgeries, but considering that we can become very rich you would think that he would lower the charge a little since he is our husband and shares the money with us. Anyway I suppose this left a lot of people surprised and annoyed even though it's something in the game itself and not Harvey's fault, and like it or not it's his job even if he could charge less.
I actually don't mind I'd give that man all the money in the world. I just think it's unfair to everyone to assume that you'd get some discount or even free services just bc you married him. and everyone would marry him just for the free stuff !😭 and that's unfair to him, to the other characters, and to the player since he'd be the only one with a significant bonus. and I know it's just a game and that's not what's happening but in real life that situation with someone quickly becomes abusive lol. plus, the money probably doesn't go to him, it goes to the clinic and keeping the lights on. if there's no supplies there's no doctor and now everyone's screwed. and we all know lewis wouldn't be too keen on helping out 🧍

b)he can have all the money he needs from me to keep his office afloat
and c)isn't it a crime for doctors to give special treatment to their spouses and not charge them? I don't know much about the medical field but I heard it is and it seems like it would be.
I think that it would make sense to lower the costs or not have them if you are married to him , but I understand it for a gameplay prospective. If there is ileaven the slightest benefit to such a trivial thing as marriage, I think most people would ignore most other candidates and choose him just to not have the medical bills when fainting or being hurt.

I always saw it as covering the cost of the materials he used to treat you. Meds, sutures, bandages, lab work, equipment maintenance, ect. Even when he marries you those things still arent free (or cheap) so he still has to charge you. Never bothered me tbh, its not like the community is supporting the clinic financially. (*cough* lewis)

Harvey's weaknesses are what make him so precious to me: He's a little anxious and socially awkward, and doesn't really have any friends in town. On some festivals (the egg festival most notably), when the NPCs stand with their friends, he is pacing around, standing here and there, but not really belonging anywhere. I've been there, I totally get it. It makes me want to befriend him and give him his bi-weekly coffee so *I* can be his friend :D
And yeah, what other people already commented about him being an adult with a stable job makes him a good candidate in general, as opposed to the more teenage-coded characters.
Concerning the "Maru crush": I've commented elsewhere that some people have this weird bias against him (mustache man is creepy) and misremember dialogues to be worse than they actually were. The Luau dialogue is a bit sussy, but nothing that cannot be explained by "he cares about health".
I believe the Harvey x Maru pairing is a remnant from Harvest Moon where the doctor can actually get married to the nurse (Elli in Friends of Mineral Town). Stardew had only vague references to rival pairings, and nothing that really makes them canon (Haley and Alex might be the strongest case here).
Leah and Elliott dance at the Flower Dance but never really interact otherwise, so the Flower Dance isn't sufficient evidence either.
@@OriginalAkivara There is some more evidence: Most of the time that either of them are in the saloon, the other one is also in the saloon, and in the same table for that matter. 8 heart Sam's cutscene (or was 10, Idk), both dance with each other on the show, which will happen not mattering if you are married or not with either of them, and will happen even during the 14 heart's Eliott event
I think its possible he was just concerned for Maru since she is his coworker. She's probably the only person in town he knows more than anyone. Though I feel like I remember that line having a blush portrait but I might be wrong.

I'm playing for the first time, and Harvey is the one I noticed first, in good way.
First in foremost, I think he's cute.
He's the first person I give gift because I sympathize when he said his worries about declining clients. And then all of conversation with him, is about his concern to me and the town people, how to take care and be cautious. People mostly rants. Or wouldn't want to talk, but he seems so kind. And he's bit awkward and shy..his hobbies, the flying model collection and the excercise so he can be fit or a little healthy... He's such a simple yet nice person...
He even felt guilty having too many clients on flu season.. lol..

I've always liked Harvey! He's pretty sweet, and I also have anxiety so I can relate to him in that way. He's also a pretty normal guy and I appreciate that! It's nice to have someone a little more grounded in reality! Gives some variety to the marriage candidates!
My favourite Harvey line is how, when I randomly walk up to him and hand him a coffee and then talk to him, he sometimes says "Imagine having a patient's life completely in your hands, and failing to keep them alive... that's something that will haunt you forever." And every time I say that, I'm just like, woah man. I'm just trying to fish over here. But also, that line always sticks with me. I have to stop what I'm doing and just sit there for a moment. Or a few moments. I usually zone out - but it gets me. And I think it's interesting.
I don't talk to Harvey a whole lot, so maybe I've just been missing out on certain dialogue, but my ONLY qualm with Harvey is that his interest in planes/flying goes like... completely unmentioned lmao?? I remember watching his 8 heart scene and thinking that I somehow missed a previous one because I had zero idea what was going on. Hayley's made sense because you've seen her take photos on the riverbank before, Shane's scenes make sense because he's always at the bar or talking about drinks, Alex's make sense because all his dialogue and animations show his interest in sports. Harvey's just kinda came out of absolutely nowhere. Other than that though I think he's super cool! Sweet guy 🧑⚕️
I think the game expects you to go to his apartment after befriending him and look at the model planes before the 8 hearts cutscene, that would have given a bit of context.
I think he is just a introverted guy that doesn't know how to open up to other people and what he always ends up doing is talking about his work
Hes a very shy person.. that scene is supposed to be a surprise- who would expect the town doctor to be a failed pilot? It also helps by showing how much he trusts the farmer, divulging his most “embarrassing” secret (to him, at least)
I mean my shoulders are always first to get sunburnt so it makes sense for him to specifically call out Maru's shoulders to me 🤷🏻♀️.

4:21 creepy? Maru is probably just getting burned. You are allowed to be concerned for people. I automatically assumed he was worried she is getting burned or worse skin cancer. With people with darker skin skin cancer can go unnoticed. And every one gets sunburned. Her shoulders may of started to look burnt or hot.
I love Harvey and he is my favorite marriage candidate nowadays. He reminds me of my boyfriend, who’s studying to be a pilot!

on my first playthroughs I loved Shane and Sebastian bc of the alluring dramatics. but then you grow up and realize that Harvey is really what you want in a husband. 😂 cooks and cleans up after to show his appreciation for all you do, also is employed, and is so sweet and cute. I love that he tries to overcome his fears bc we inspired him, and how much he cares about everyone in town even though he doesn't hang out with anybody much. it also felt natural to choose him because I always felt like I should bring him coffee or something to say thanks for stitching me back together after being beat up by monsters every week lol
I just remembered your Willy video and I think Willy really knows how to fish and is good at it, obviously we beat him with the power of protagonism 😅 the special bug meat quest shows he knows how to make special bait and even catches a fish in front of us in the cutscene, and he has a lot of fish on his bench at the annual fair. He can also send you fish as a gift and one of them is catfish which is not so easy to catch, Linus can also catch but he also has experience for being in the wild.
I honestly don’t think his sunscreen comment was creepy. I think he was just looking out for Maru.

Harvey is my favorite man. He’s so grateful and smart and honest. No drama like with the other characters. As a husbanded is very sweet. It’s hard for me to choose to romance anybody else.
I think Harvey is, like you said, a very ordinary guy just doing his best. I've tried to romance him several times, but can never go through with it because his personality reminds me too much of my dad 😭(also an awkward quiet guy who loves coffee and nerds out about airplanes) The age gap between him an Maru feels a little weird to me, but then again I'm in my late 20s and all the "younger " marriage candidates feel too young for me personally
I love Harvery because he his supportive and is the only person in town who actully cares about your and the player health. He even mention sometime that he gets nightmares of the player getting hurt in the mines at night and also gives you massages at night. I just love and the care he provides for the player. Not once have I ever find him creepy or annoying like most other players do. I actually find his personality very sweet and supportive which is something I really like about him.
It's not unusual for doctors to need refreshers (whether it would be a book, instructional video, etc) on things they don't normally do in practice. Eight years is a lot of schooling, after all. I've only been through four years of bio and if you told me I suddenly needed to recite the Krebs cycle I wouldn't be able to! If you gave me some time with it I could explain how it works and why, though, because that was the real point of everything I've learned in that subject. He likely has books like the knee surgery one around to give him a refresher or just because he found the topic interesting.
4:58 Honestly, I don't see it as creepy considering I advocate for sunscreen religiously. More often than not people think that just because someone has darker skin they don't need sunscreen, which is a total myth. Everyone needs sunscreen and shade. So, it all checks out to be honest.
So on my first save file I was super eh about Harvey, like he was there but I didn't have any strong feelings on him (except for maybe thinking the Maru sunscreen thing was weird). And then I saw his eight heart event, and it TOTALLY changed my perspective on him. It is sorta a dose of reality in this fantasy escapism game, but I kinda took it the other way, that even if the dreams you have for yourself don't work out you can still build a life you're proud of and find happiness in other ways. I don't know, it just felt like an emotional hug I didn't know what I needed, and moral of the story I married him in my most recent save file and he's prob by second fav marriage candidate now (no one can beat Leah sorry
How Harvey focuses so much on being a doctor (like how he always gives medical advice) I think that something did happen, but it did not lead to anything. I doubt he was sued because he would have lost his license and I really think someone would have caught that (not the mayor but I think him being new to town someone would investigate him. Small town people are very nosey. You can also bet someone is on some meds like the elderly couple and the only way they could get it is a real doctor prescribes them). I think someone died (due to his comment about being in charge of a life). Harvey being Harvey it broke him so he moved to a small town where he only has to worry about small stuff. Anything even remotely serious he would send them to a specialist in the city because he is not set up for bigger things.
So is Maru a registered nurse (and if so, why is she still in the valley working part time at a clinic and not a hospital), or is she a pharmacologist (she does sell drugs, but you never see her doing nurse work) and Harvey just has her wear a nurse's outfit all day? 🤨🤨🤨
I just kind of thought she was an RN who simply had no ambition to leave the small town. Some people are happy living in a small town with their parents until marriage, so, shrug. I never saw her as particularly young, but I suppose it is possible she's just Harvey's assistant of some kind rather than an RN or LPN.

I figured she was working as a medical assistant. Where I live they don’t need any license/certification and makes sense for Maru since she only works part time.
I always thought of her as a receptionist to fund her gadgets and later university degree.
"Maru, I forgive you for dropping that medical sample. It's a simple mistake, and I'm happy you're honest with me about it.
However, before you bend over to clean it up, could you put on this French maid outfit....?"
I'm married to Harvey and we have two kids together. He's a sweet guy and I have a lot in common with him in real life (Jazz, model airplanes, routines and social anxiety). I also like him because he's clearly an adult, I would feel uncomfortable marrying Sam or Abigail or Sebastian because they act like teenagers even though they're technically old enough to marry. I'm 18 myself but I see my farmer as a seperate character who I imagine to be 25 or older.
When it comes to Maru... I know it's canon that he has feelings for her but I choose to ignore it because I think it's weird. I just pretend that his Luau dialogue is just him trying to be friendly but awkward about it.
It's not canon, it's ambiguous at best.

I don't think is creepy the sunscreen thing, he is not saying he is going to apply it, he is wondering if she wants some, he can hand her the bottle or something, he is just worried about his employee, one of the few people that he interacts with on the regular
Honestly I think some of the reasons he makes you pay for visits even if you're his spouse is because:
1. It seems like a big nono for doctors. In a small place like Pelican Town you'd think someone would eventually figure out that Harvey was giving you 'free' doctor visits and then it would turn into a game of telephone, and it would turn into "The Farmer is getting special treatment" and I assume that it's also just bad for doctors to do morally in the first place.
1.5. Adding on to that- what if he did so happen to give you (as a spouse) free visits. That would be the only reason anyone would marry him, lmao!
2. He says early on before you get married or whatever that he's 'struggling to make ends meet' and he should 'get patients from the neighboring towns'. If you keep on going to the mines and 'dying' or even getting hurt in general, he probably won't deny that money, even from you!
3. It's also just a nice thing to do when you make your husband feel good for fixing you up. Lol
I feel like an interesting character trait Harvey could’ve had is him being a social outcast, as I feel the first heart event kinda says that already?

I always thought of Harvey’s dialogue about Mary needing sunscreen as just a medical nerd wanting to make sure his friend didn’t get sunburnt
I feel like with the do-it yourself surgery book, he's a general doctor but needs more specialized training for some older people like Lewis and Evelyn and whatever issues others may have. He especially needs to know surgeries bc of us passing out in the mines.
His heart event about his dreams of being a pilot really sticks with me. I hear more people talk about it in general life now then I ever did before, but hearing that message of losing a dream, but making life work regardless, speaks to me. I find it comforting that even if I don't succeed with the dreams I have, not everything is lost. Sometimes, things you dream of doing just don't work out. But, that doesn’t mean giving up on it entirely. Like we see with Harvey, he still enjoys things related to flight through a hobby. Showing his interest in small ways and keeping thay spark alive in the way he can. That, in spite of it all, he eventually meets someone (whether you date him or not) that he becomes friends with to make life better. That, if you take what life has thrown and make the best of it, you can still be happy and fulfilled, even if it's not what you planned. And maybe, just maybe, you'll get another chance to try it again, even if its in a difficult form and stage :]

been waiting for this video since Harvey is a very underrated character. the maru thing is pretty much debunked since one of his dialogues mentions that even though she is a "sweet girl" he has no interest in her. I think Harvey is just a very down to earth guy, with perhaps a bad history and broken dreams. I marry him in most of my saves, because of how sweet and lovely he is.

My farmer is currently dating him and I think he might be my favorite SdV character. It's like you said he's just a guy trying to make it in life, trying to get through his trauma, trying to be his best self.
Harvey isn't a creep! He's a bit cynical and depressing at times but he's just trying his best to care for all of his patients and finding his place in the valley. I honestly believe he may have botched a minor operation (a knee operation like you said) and he ran away from being a doctor for awhile but then suddenly he saw someone like George being bound to a wheelchair, he decided to become Pelican Town's resident doctor but even that barely makes any money since Mayor Lewis is taking all the tax dollars and putting it towards a gold status of himself. Plus with Joja Mart threatening the economy as well (esp Pierre's shop) it might mean that eventually Joja mart may open up their own hospital or clinic and charge an astounding rate but their doctors might be more "accurate" at being doctors thus pushing not just Pierre to close his store (due to Joja Mart's store offering better deals) but Harvey to go back to Zuzu City to be a doctor there again.

Oh my Yoba, I think I might be going crazy. When you mentioned the sunscreen dialogue and how some people see it as creepy but others think it's fine, I thought I knew exactly what happened.
My brain had immediately supplied me with a memory of how originally Harvey's dialogue in that scene was, "I wonder if Maru would let me rub sunscreen on her shoulders?", but in a later update the line was changed to "I wonder if Maru could use some sunscreen on her shoulders?" to make it less creepy. I also was pretty sure that this happened in the same update that changed the dialogue options in Penny's heart scene with George.
So, there we go, problem solved, right? The people who are insisting that scene is super creepy and inappropriate are remembering the old dialogue, and the people confused about how showing simple concern about sun protection could be construed as creepy have only seen the updated dialogue!
There's only one issue: I cannot for the life of me find any reference to the old dialogue or a dialogue update anywhere. I've been all over the wiki and hunted through all of the update change logs, and I cannot find evidence of this actually happening. Please, if anyone else remembers this update let me know!! It truly feels like I've lost my mind T-T
Mandela Effect. People who want to see Harvey as creepy see the dialogue as creepier than it really is. The fact that you can't find screenshots or any other evidence supports that.
I have to say, in most of my playthroughs I marry Harvey. I just can't relate with most of the other bachelors or bachelorettes. I find them all to young LOL. Harvey is very sweet even if he still takes 1000Gs every time you pass out. I love his 14 heart event!
Exactly! The characters I play are usually a little bit older, so it feels weird to date people who just graduated highschool or in their early twenties. I like both Harvey and Elliott, it feels like they are the most emotionally mature out of the bunch.
I think "he's just a dude" is the perfect summary for my feelings. I like him! Also I totally took the sunscreen comment in stride without much thought, but I see why that would rub people the wrong way for sure. I've never tried to marry him because I keep....... accidentally...... marrying Maru on every playthrough..... so this was an especially great summary of his character for me! Considering Harvey says he only studied for eight years (was it? I think NP school takes like 6-8 years while a full Doctor schooling takes 10 plus) I think it might be that "Doctor" Harvey is actually Nurse Practitioner Harvey, and since it's a small town they don't really know the difference. I know I call my GP who's an NP my doctor. It'd also make some sense for a small town clinic to have an NP, maybe? I'm not super sure on the technicalities.
Medical school is only 4 years, so yeah he's including his non-medical school stuff in that. 8 years is perfectly fine.
2:17 Because he's not the one scheduling them, apparently Stardew's health care system while not paying for patient's treatment, it pays for yearly check up, it might be also Evelyn considering Harvey answer if you side with George. Alternatively it might've also been Joja mining operation the one paying and asking Harvey for it, considering, George does not work.
Another thing is that George wasn't against the check up per se, but he didn't like the idea of having to make exercise or eating healthier like most patients, just that instead of lying to the doctor he went straight saying he won't.
Considering George grumbles about "good for nothing doctors" when you see him in the clinic, nah, he just hates doctors. Considering his homophobia if you romance Alex as male, and how he comments that at least farming is "honest work", he's just conservative and anti-intellectual.

I flip flop back and forth about the suncream thing. I can definitely see why it's easy to read as creepy. But I also wonder if it's just his way of caring about her. It's hard to get out of work mode and when the vast majority of your time is spent trying to keep the people around you healthy, it's probably easy to see someone you care about on a sunny day and wonder if they need some suncream. Kind of like the doctor version of the sweet grandma who always worries about whether you're warm enough or if you've been eating properly.

Likely a family doctor, had something happen and got sued. And decided to move to a small town so that something like that wont happen again (you're not gonna sue your doctor if they litterally live next door and come to your Christmas party's)
I could easilly see the Knee Surgery book being something simple.
George is in a wheelchair because of an accident. Maybe it stems from damage to his knees. So Harvey looked a little into that to see if he could find a way to fix it (or be able to refer him to someone who could). or someone else in the town has some knee issues, or might have some in the future and he wants to be ready. Or it could even just be a simple book to refresh himself on some bits of anatomy. A family doctor doesn't do surgery, but knowing a bit about how it works, would help him better give recommendations

I think he had big time doctor role knew someone he was treating or became close to a pacinet then they passed away during surgery making Harvey realize maybe he wants simpler doctor life and found a job in pelican town and moved there.
The reason why some people don't respect havery because he doesn't always interact with them on a normal base do to his anxiety with getting to know people, because he doesn't know what to say he gives random health tips facts and advice and he scared another patient dying.
The reason i think he has trouble with talking with people is a lot of time before the two heart sence he tells stuff about how to stay healthy,ask you to come in if feeling sick while also saying you look pretty healthy or just being awarked saying stuff trying to end the conversation.
After two hearts he starts saying that he takes the town people health very seriously.
After the doctor visit heart level secene he will be open to the fact that he worries about your chacters health along with giving you tips health tips and saying that he wants to become better friends with you.
After finding him at dance work out he meaton that you're such a great friend and his only other friend is meru and that he appreciates her working there.
Then when you get to the heart level where you can date him he tells you he might feel something a little bit more with you and he wants to be close to you.

Honestly I do just think he’s. Like. A guy. Nothing special or a traumatic backstory. Maybe just because he’s exactly like my dad: he wanted to be a pilot, but his bad eyesight got in the way.
But let’s say a surgery did go wrong-that on its own has led to many surgeons leaving the field. No need for a malpractice lawsuit (not every surgery that goes wrong is the fault of the surgeon and usually doctors have malpractice insurance anyways) or abject poverty (I mean how does a bankrupt man buy a practice that big?).

Thank you for explaining the Maru thing as you did it very well, it would only be creepy through the employer/employee sense and not really the age gap since the characters all have to be adults. On the note about his mustache I like it because it makes him look more mature and refined. I like facial hair and even mustaches if they are well groomed for that reason, and I’m always disappointed by the lack of bachelors with facial hair besides Shane having some stubble, so that’s why I wouldn’t want shaved Harvey.

My husband! I really like his 6 and 1p heart scenes, and he just tries gis best (even with mustache in the soup), he even works and goes to the clinic after marriage. I don't think he messed up and moves away bc he always tries his best and tries to help, knowing for example he can't go up the hot air balloon alone. I like the theory in the comment he helped Sandy. Something about Harvey is sweet.
My thinking is actually that he's reading that knee book for George's sake? Or whomever that NPC with bad knees is. There's a quest to give someone a hot pepper to help w their knee. I forget who exactly but thats what I thought of.

Considering Maru only says that at 8+ hearts when you're not married to her, I'm pretty sure that's just her "crushing on the farmer" dialogue that all the bachelor/bachelorettes get at 8 hearts. It's not "RESCUE ME FROM HARVEY I BEG YOU", it's "Hey I know I spend a lot of time with Harvey but I'm just letting you know, I'm single~"
