  • I recently moved to Krakow, Poland. I am a Chinese-Filipino American who will be here for a year. I wanted to talk about the reasons why I chose to move to Poland as opposed to going back to live in the US.

Thank you for the great analysis of the current situation in the US vs Poland vs Western Europe. I was born in Poland, grew up in New York City, currently live in Norway (with my husband and kids) and I'm seriously considering coming back to my starting point - Poland. Even my Norwegian husband is on board with the move. Poland is a good mix of many positive aspects. It is modern but traditional. Centrally located but still mentally eastern. It is family friendly and does provide a good work-home balance.
Looking forward to your future videos.

Welcome to Poland, I hope you will stay here for a long time :).
As a woman from Poland, I can honestly tell you that Poland has a lot in common with Asia, especially Japan and South Korea. It's about people's character, our attitude, privacy. Yes, my nation isn`t perfect, we have a lot of problems with our behavior and I believe that we should draw the best example from Japanese or Korean culture when it comes to behavior in public places (cultural diversity not imposed by force can have benefits, unlike what the WOKE agenda and other similar perversions do). I would like my nation to be as "clean" (taking care of the cleanliness of the environment in which we live every day - cleaning up after ourselves, not throwing away garbage like Russians do in their apartment blocks, higher social culture). However, I don't know if it is possible, we have difficult personalities and we aren`t willing to change unless they are imposed by law. We are too focused on ourselves, we do not cooperate with people from our neighborhood to even clean up our neighborhood or renovate something. We count on the bureaucracy, not local community.
When it comes to safety... it all depends on what city you live in and what neighborhood you live in. Where there are a lot of alcoholics - it is better to stay away, and it is also worth watching out for +18 nightclubs, which are most often run by people associated with "criminal groups". However, during the day it is safe in public places, at night - it depends.
You have chosen the perfect city for yourself, Krakow is less concrete than Warsaw. I don't like our capital, it doesn't have the peace you talked about, and to be honest, nature is like a beating heart, it imposes an appropriate rhythm of life on us, which isn`t a rat race. The city cannot be completely covered with concrete, we must be in contact with Nature, hear the birds singing and see the grass and trees to remember to stop for a moment and catch our breath.
    Good luck

I agree with you. Asians don't cause any problems. They are very hard working people.
In my opinion, you have probably made one of the best decisions. Settling in Poland, especially in Krakow, was the right thing to do. Poland 🇵🇱is a well organized, comfortable, and good place to live. I wish you all the best. Be happy and enjoy your life in 🇵🇱 Poland.
I can't wait to come to Poland as soon as I can.

I will put my 2 cents about '' affordability of Poland ''.
Till lately I didn't even realize that Poland can be considered as a good spot for a '' passport bros '' for a reasons I will talk below. I'm not saying that Wes is a '' passport bro '' cause it depends on definition but as he is a single man who travels searching for a better / different life than back home and is willing to date girls abroad we could qualify him as a '' passport bro '' ( there is nothing negative about that ). Me, as a Pole, I'm kind of '' passport bro '' too lol ! And it was funny to me when I lately found out that my country is considered as a good spot for '' passport bros '' ( I found some videos on youtube where '' bros '' were talking about Poland ). I found it funny cause while I'm hitting on Asia ( every year I travel to Thailand or the Phillipines + I was willing to finally visit Colombia [ not anymore after I realized safty risks there ] ), so while me as a Pole travel to SEA like a '' passport bro '' now I see other '' bros '' coming to my country hahaha ... It made me wonder if maybe I should apreciate my country and women here more :)))
But lets get to the point ... why I was suprised founding out Poland may be considered as a good spot for a '' passport bros '' ?? It's related with affordability ... prices here are rising and women expectations are rising with a prices ;)))
Some ppl in the West still divide Europe on the Western and Eastern part thinking there is a huge gap between like the time stopped in 1989. But it's not like that anymore. In 1989 Poland was a grey, poor post communist country. Then transformation changes were made and we turned into free market, capitalistic economy. Poland was changing / growing step by step. After entering EU in 2004 economic growth speeded up, Poland was changing so fast. To my eye the best time for foreigners / expats / '' bros '' to come Poland was around 2004 ( entering EU ) till 2019. That time Poland had all the infrastructure that's needed to live comfortable, but the prices of real estate / services / groceries was low / very affordable.
10 years ago I moved to the capital ( Warsaw ) and I was happy living in a strict city center, having access to big city infrastructure, high quality services, international restaurants etc. for a low cost. I paid just 500 USD for a humble 1 bed apartment but it was located right in the city center ! My monthly spendings for a pretty modest life was around 1000 USD monthly. Now, after 10 years its at least double, it's more than double ! Real estate in Poland nowadays is expensive ( even more expensive than in big cities in Spain ). Renting a 1 bed apartment in Warsaw city center costs now around 1000 - 1500 USD ( long term rent ) cause if you rent same 1 bed apartment in air.bnb ( short time rent ) it will cost around 2000 - 2500 USD per month. Restaurants got more expensive, I used to eat dinner in restaurants every day after work on my way home but I don't do that anymore ! Cost of dinner in a middle ranged restaurant + small dessert and coffe will be 25-30 bucks. It used to be half of that just a few years ago. Same with all services costs, it doubled, f.e. hair cut from 10 USD in 2019 to 20 USD now. I monthly spend 2000 USD now in Warsaw and I live a modest life, I try to safe on my travels too.
My point is ... Poland was really affordable not long ago, peak time was somewhere between 2004 - 2019. It was high value for a low price. But it's not anymore.
Still it will be cheaper compared to the Western countries but the gap between Eastern Europe ( I talk about countries that are in EU ) and Western Europe is decreasing and I noticed many ppl in the West don't realize that fact. Not only prices went high, but salaries too. Nowadays Poles are doing pretty well, average salary in Warsaw is around 1500 - 2000 USD but there are many ppl earning like 3000? 4000? USD. Why I speak about that?? Cause that way local women expectations rised up as well ;)) You need to be young ( below 40 ), good looking and wealthy to impress beauty girl in her 20's cause she has options like that. So be aware of that fact and don't come to Poland with unrealistic expectations. Thats also the reason why there are more and more Polish bros every year who travel to South East Asia ;))

Wife is from Olkusz so I've visited Poland quite often. Last summer, we were back and a little surprised to see how much costs have gone up in Katowice, Olkusz, Krakow, Zakopane etc after Covid (compared to '19 pre-Covid time). Interesting enough, I've found Krakow now more expensive than Prague. We love South East Asia (going soon in a few months) so cheap, vibrant, bustling with great food, just dang hot in the summer. Spent Christmas and New Year in Krakow and found Polish winter too much to bear but loved summer and fall there. The right formula: summer in Poland/Czech and winter in beach towns of South East Asia 👍

Hey Wes , Glad to see you are happy and SAFE in Poland. Wanted to comment for all your viewers especially the ones that followed you throughout your time in Colombia. Not here to Colombia bash but I think I have a pretty honest and unbiassed opinion after having lived there (Medellin) for the last two years with my Paisa wife.
Back in Canada now and believe me I'm not saying this is the greatest place either but as you said, at the end of the day it comes down to SAFETY and until you actually live in Colombia (specifically Medellin ) and I don't mean live as in going to Poblado for two weeks of the year.. But to really live there , it is only then one can really understand what you're talking about when you mention the constant stress and the actual LACK of safety that exists there.
Being a constant target, always having to plan where and when you're going to be in a specific spot to minimize the dangers that are forever present. Always having to think, to be aware is anybody is watching me, who is watching me, there's two motos approaching with two guys mounted , gotta watch out etc. etc. It just becomes tooooooo freaking wearing on one's soul. And by the way this is not just my personal experience this is the daily reality and stress of my Colombian friends and relatives as well that live there, nobody trusts anybody.
I guess I'm not just preaching a message to your followers but also thinking about all these passport bro UA-camrs that sell Medellin as this "awesome great and wonderful cheap place where everyone is super friendly and will love you and is full of beautiful woman just waiting to hangout and show Gringos a great time". To those who think this is reality, I would say check the official security alert with regards to Medellin on the US embassy's website if you want to believe those passport bro idiots.
I digress, rant over now. My apologies to you if you feel I've hijacked your platform to preach my message.
Anyways, always good to see a new video from you and thank you for letting us know about life in Poland!
    Cheers!

funny you ask , it's exactly 2 months today I've been back and for those first couple seconds in the morning, still when I wake up I feel the heaviness of the day that awaits me... the crowded metro the uncomfortable glares and stares the general rudeness and total disrespect for personal space people bumping into you is if they do it on purpose and never to say excuse me ( and obviously I'm just describing daily life there nothing traumatic but it is this that gets so exhausting every single day and day out). until I realize I'm here in my house, Life is so easy here that's how describe it to my friends, everything is just so much easier here on every level, going grocery shopping to going to check your mail at the mailbox everything is just easier. And I only think one can fully understand that once you've lived a year or two in a city like Medellin. @Wandering_nomad_forever-xl7uq

Three gringos have been killed this year in Medellin (we are only a month and a half in) and one was literally thrown down a balcony. People need to stop the whole tinder / passport bro thing and understand that there are five million Colombians living abroad because they prioritize peace and making a decent living. Yes, being on guard messed your nervous system and it takes time to regulate.

Filipinos are eligible to get Spanish Citizenship if you live in Spain for two years. But also the downside of a Spanish Citizenship is you are obligated to pay Tax to the country and I hear they are serious about their citizens paying their Taxes. I heard their Equivalent to The IRS is much worst. I think one of the famous cases of this is Shakira being force to pay millions to Spain.

Another man with an origin complex. The center of Europe is just a point on the map. It was created 100 years ago mainly because of someone's attention - the Germans. Who are also in the middle but still call themselves the west. The concept of Central Europe never really existed - it was politically created by the Germans
Mittleeuropa but it was practically never implemented.
There is no such thing as the center of Europe because it can only be a point.
Germany is in Western Europe and we are in Eastern Europe and there is nothing to do
irritate. Remember that in history we have always been perceived as the East. And the fact that we have now joined the EU does not change us.

@@sandralicious-oe9zy As any other concepts yes a central Europe was in use in case of Germany or Austro-Hungarian empire. So you are not right in your definition. Following your logic then again where is point when Western Europe begin? You saying central is a point and western is suddenly not a point ? Moreover why you pretending being from central or eastern Europe ?

    • @sandralicious-oe9zy
      @sandralicious-oe9zy 8 годин тому

@@avitalsheva Are you asking where is the point of Western Europe? Western Europe has no point, it is part of the continent. Please type ''How to divide Europe'' in Google, see where the west is and where the east is. ''Central'' is a point. If we want to include this point so much, Poland is located in the Eastern-Central part of Europe. Europe is divided into 4 parts, like a compass. Does the compass have a center part? There isn't. It may be just a point. I know that some Poles have an origin complex and now they try to pretend to be better than others. And they synonymize the East with poverty, so they try to separate themselves from it and call themselves a point, not a part. But you are part of it, and you can't change that. I know we are at this point, but as I mentioned this point not a part. And I won't call myself by a name invented by the occupier :) Which is still the west even though it is also included in this point. So as you can see, we are in the eastern part of Europe. I'm not ashamed of it and I don't try to distort reality to feel better.

So it means with Hungary you can only do 90 day just like the other Schengen countries but you can still use the 90 days in Hungary even though you have used up the 90 days in the other Schengen countries... lol... It's just a one time thing. I hope that makes sense. With Poland you can keep going back indefinitely...
