The new Bill Nye the science guy! Great video Clint, you provided very easy instructions so this project isn't so daunting for us!
w/o the left wing garbage
Bill Nye wears a bowtie for the same reason that Clint always tucks his in. Maybe Clint should make the switch!
@@420spacecowboy Left wing garbage? I think you mean factual science. Stay mad.
@@Hobi_Noodle_Soup what was the guy talking about?
@@entity107 Yeesh, this was a year ago, I forgot, sorry. Him being mad that Bill Nye supports trans people is my best guess but
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This is an excellent enclosure build BECAUSE he makes a few mistakes and tells you how to fix them.
YES! I love how humble he is!
I came to say this!! All my builds go this way. It's so important to be flexible and know how to maneuver around setbacks.
Pretty much exactly what I thought. I'm glad he's not afraid to show his "fails"
@@amandastakeonit7402 as though Clint makes mistakes for any reason other than educational purposes
I still can't believe that there's no Clint's Reptiles themed ties.
WE DEMAND MERCH TIES
It is a shocking oversight...
Yes we do !
As someone who collects and wears ties on a daily basis, I agree, MERCH TIES!
Gus Gus pattern would make a cool tie design 😎
Merch ties would be stinking rad.
Clint giving me tie-tucking advice on the assumption that of course I'd be wearing a tie while setting up my Paludarium is the most Utah thing in this video and it's incredibly wholesome
He keeps reminding people of their ties, like ties are the default for people who would construct enclosures.😄 Never change, Clint.
Are they not?? 👔
Ties are very important
Do you still need to do this if your tie is actually _made_ from expanding foam?
Uh, asking for a friend.
@@hjalfi hahahaha thank you for the laugh!
You must dress for the occasion, you don't want your regular clothes to get dirty.
What a great way to start the day. Drinking coffee, and watching the most positive reptile youtuber in existence. Thanks, man.
You're so welcome!
No offence Clint but I think the most positive reptile owner is snake discovery
@@terrariatips818 I love Emily and her channel very very much! Buuut I still this Clint has this one. His enthusiasm is absolutely infectious. I think they are very nearly tied, but Clint is just a haaair ahead.
Very cool build! One idea with the pump. Get a PVC tube that the cord fits thru and put that behind the spray foam, that way the pump can be completely changed with less effort.
Hey Clint, you probably heard this a number of times already but the positivity in your videos is so great for getting back into a good mood after a stressful day of work. I'm really thankful for your work on UA-cam. You can clearly tell how much you love what you're doing. You being as authentic as you are is always a pleasure to watch.
I will totally build a paludarium in the future. I hope i can either get this kit sent to germany or find something similar here.
Clint: Tuck your tie!
Me, a person who hasn't worn a tie in over a decade: *scribbles notes frantically down* TUCK TIE
❤😂❤
This enclosure is so fun! I've never done a waterfall in my own builds before, so it's cool that there are setups that you don't have to modify too heavily to get that cascade effect. You mentioned that the Great Stuff foam can sometimes peel off the terrarium walls, and in my personal experience, a layer of silicone applied directly to the glass can help the foam more readily adhere to it.
Undoubtedly the best reptile and amphibian UA-camr, and arguably the best pet UA-camr. And possibly the most under rated UA-camr!
Pewdiepie is the most underrated
A tip for using the silicone. If you’re trying to get a lot out for doing a background as apposed to a fine bead, if you cut the spout closer to you it will be easier to get a substantial amount out.
Great that you showed that things don’t necessarily work out first time. Looks great at the end!
Thanks for this tip!
Quick note on sand as an aquatic substrate:
It almost ALWAYS will cloud when putting water in for the first time. You have to let it set for a few hours to settle.
But it really wouldn't work with the pump that low, regardless.
This.....almost makes me want to wear a tie just so I can tuck it next time I do a build. Thanks Clint! You make me and my mom (who is actually a soon to be retired Biology teacher) proud :)
Oh yeah, adding the sphagnum moss and substituting the sand for gravel was definitely a better option. It looks AMAZING!
The tank turned out awesome and the frogs are adorable! I've built a bunch of enclosures with the spray foam/silicone/substrate backing and learn something new each time. Really mashing in the dirt into the thickly applied silicone is super important. Also, if you get a dispensing gun that screws on to the bigger cans of spray foam, you won't need to use an entire can (or throw away what you don't use). The nozzle's not too expensive and more than pays for itself pretty quickly.
I love Josh's Frogs! They are my local reptile supplier! They even put my beardie on their website for a bit after we got a picture of him looking at his box full of bugs we bought from them.
It's so important to be flexible and know how to maneuver around accidents and setbacks. Flawless!
How fun! My baby woke me up early and I got to start the day with a fun cage build. :) Lovely new frogs!
This is one of the most beautiful paludarium I've ever seen! 😁
“This is Peat Moss, younger brother to Randy”
Literally laughed out loud 🤣
You're my kind of people
Those little reed frogs are Awesome RAD!!! Love the set up!
I love this channel regardless, but what I really like is it's an enclosure most of us can build, which is nice. Thank you Clint, you are interesting, enthusiastic and a great advocate to the hobby.
I just set up my own paludarium for my starry night reed frogs, also from Josh's. Now I'm envious. I need to get them into a larger tank, and use less of a substrate base, more of a water base, like you did. I wanted the soil for additional plants/filtration, but now I'm second-guessing that.
Great job!
Since UA-camrs rarely comment after the first bit that they release a video, and you seem to be someone to ask. Are these good beginner frogs? How about dart frogs? I know someone that wants to get little frogs, she mentioned dart frogs once I said that domestically bred darts have little to no poison since it's assumed to be mostly if not all attributed to their diet in the wild. Has Clint ever done a video on whether the darts or the SNR frogs are good pets, to your knowledge?
@@amandastakeonit7402 I'm unaware if he's done a video. I can say Darts are easy and enjoyable pets, without hesitation. Feeding often and building a proper setup can be tricky, but if you do your research? Gold. Reed frogs are like a mix between
tree frogs and dart frogs. They want a little of everything. So long as you can secure small feeder insects, and a proper (high humidity) setup with regular mistings I find them incredibly enjoyable.
Of my Pixie, Pacman, darts, and reed, I enjoy the reeds the most to be honest. They are relaxing, their call is relaxing, and they are just beautiful little guys.
Sorry, just realized I didn't really answer your question.
I would say starry night reed frogs are good beginner frogs, provided you are familiar with how to set up a tank and keep humidity. Just beware their tiny size making escape a constant danger.
I think is just what I needed this morning 🥰👍 You have a uvb lamp there, I wonder what the creature is.
Any guesses??
@@ClintsReptiles its a miniaturized temnospondyl of some kind.
@@ClintsReptiles I think maybe a dart frog
@@ClintsReptiles poison dart frog???
Yellow Spotted Climbing Toad? Mossy Frogs?
I love that You let us see the "mistakes". 💜
Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes so you don't have to make them yourself.
@@ClintsReptiles Excactly my point! 👍
For once I’m early, thank you for the enjoyable calm start to my morning
I'm so glad you could be here!
I love your profile picture
I find a battery powered leaf blower on the lowest setting is a good way to get rid of that excess substrate from the back . Do make sure it is on the lowest setting though . I recommend the Black & Decker which has a setting availability between six and one instead of just high and low .
Love the content. I have been making enclosures like this for a while now. I have found that the expanding foam doesn't adhere well to smooth surfaces like glass or acrylic. The best way to prevent the foam from pulling away from the sides is to lay down a thin layer of silicone and spray the foam while the silicone is still wet
I actually bought this paludarium and most of the other stuff a couple of months ago. But I just couldn’t get past the planning stage. Thank you for making this video and giving me some confidence and an idea of what it could look like! I am super excited to begin now!
I like that you are showing this as an obvious beginner. Tanner at Serpa is vastly more skilled at this but in the end this video showed me that anyone can do a cool design and make it their own by just going for it and I like that you didnt just edit the video to make it seem easy.
I've always wanted a paludarium. They can be gorgeous.

Just casually says that and then moves on lmao
I've just been thinking of building one of these, perfect timing!

@@ClintsReptiles With an ackie?
Of course!
Thanks for keeping our ties safe Clint!
Heads up , depending on your town water supply, it may only contain Chlorine, and not Chloramines, If it is only treated with Chlorine, you can let your water sit in an open container (no lid) for roughly 24 hrs and the chorine will evaporate out, so basically you don't even need the Chorine Treatment bottle. Call you local water treatment centre if your curious about whats in your tap water. :)
This was so fun to watch! And those little frogs are so beautiful, it would be awesome to produce some babies!
They are amazing!! Enjoy those beauties and lovely enclosure for them.
Thank you!
Thank you for showing the process including troubleshooting and changes. I’ve learned so much and feel ready to give it a try.
Beautiful build.
I found with the expanding foam, when ur done with it if u hold it upright and spray a blast of air to clean the straw out then u can cut off a piece of the straw to reuse the rest of it down the road.
Your a great guy, makin building fun. To help out filtering, cut filter foam the size of the tank and place over pump then add you gravel, this will protect your pump and give a bio fiter too.
,
Oh this is great! That is a stunning enclosure.
I was thinking about getting a few last summer when Josh's Frogs had a sale going, but I wasn't sure whether they would be active enough/comfortable enough to be out when I and my family are around, so I held off to do more research. I can't wait for the follow up video!
Thank you so much! They are nocturnal, so they aren't out much during the day. Video coming soon!

Hands down agree that Josh's frogs is great. Been buying front them for years. Always great service and everything is always alive and healthy. Even the crickets. Side note, using vinegar as a cleaning of the tank before hand I have never had problems with foam coming off in high humidity enclosures. May help in future goes.
About 15 or so years ago I built a 2' x 2' x 4' enclosure with complete 2' x 4'waterfall. Used PVC piping, great stuff, and metal screening, paint and aquarium sealant to seal the waterfall from top to bottom. The one side was the waterfall 2' x 4' with a reservoir at the bottom and sand box for Halloween crabs on the bottom. It was for my chameleon. Really fun to build, Cost about 250 to build. Top opened as well as 2' of the front.
These are really cool looking frogs! I've never heard of this particular species before, always exciting to see something new!
The paludarium look's amazing. The frogs are also cool . Great work 👍👍👍
Pretty cool Stary Night Reed frogs!
Man I am loving these unannounced bonus Wednesday videos!!! Nothing like some stinkin rad videos to help get me over hump day.
It does make the week seem shorter :)
What a fun build and those mystery creatures are so cute. Might need to get some.
I wonder if you could paint the glass black prior to putting the foam/gorilla glue on, then after finishing the background you could scrape excess paint off the back.
I love the build videos! It's so interesting to see how different enclosures are set up.
Oh damn, that light can turn on the royalty free music too!
Just bustin' ya bohls a little, Clint, awesome job as always!
Those frogs are very cute and the tank looks great.
Probably one of my favourite videos ever!!!! Id love to see you do this, on a larger scale. It would also be so rad, if you would make an arid setup (fx for a beardie or an uromastyx). Love what you are doing;-D
This is amazing! I am dying to see an in depth video about the paludarium behind you! I MUST KNOW HOW IT WAS BUILT! Anyway, keep up the great work!
Thank you!
Can't wait for the video on these little guys. They look so pretty!
Yeah I just made my 1st custom background for my T and yes, u have to lay the silicone on very thick then press it all in. I used an entire tube of silicone on a 10 gallon tank sized background and that was also with me going around many rocks I used. Just to give u an idea of how much you, or anyone needs. I also went thru an entire can of great stuff. Another tip... I built it all OUTSIDE of the tank, applying it to the correct measurement Styrofoam sheet that can then be siliconed to the back of enclosure when finished. This allowed me to make it 3D and avoid the ugly exposed sides of the layers showing thru the glass & all anyone can see on the back is the black backside of the Styrofoam sheet I used. I'm actually really proud of myself for my 1st attempt. I wanted it to look just like an exposed creekside bank, I used pieces of wild grapevine to look like exposed tree roots.
Your enclosure build videos are so good 😍 perfect start to the day
The bloopers are hilarious, need more of those, leave them right where they happen in the video!
Great video, Clint. Next time you do one of these, ive got another method of attaching substrate that has been working really really well for me. Make the same mix you did here (eco earth, sphag moss and sand), get it good and wet, and then mix in a fair bit of gorilla wood glue. Mixed straight into the sunstrate, til it turns into a thick creamy slurry. Then just press it right to the background, either direct to glass or onto the carved expanding foam. It takes a little longer to dry but it comes out really well and seems to hold up much better than silicone, and provides a much better surface for plants to cling to.
That's similar to what I normally do. I was trying something new here.
Great video! You should add some weeping it pilo moss to the waterfall though, buces too. It would be neat to turn the waterfall into a garden of aquatic plants.
I've looked at those exos before, I've built a small paludarium for my frogs out of a cheap fish tank before and I have plenty of experience with pumps and filters from my aquascaping and I have even built my own ultrasonic fogger for my frogs using a container and an air pump. Thank you for doing this video, I might use some of these techniques to set up a new paludarium so I can get myself some adorable whites tree frogs
It’s always a pleasant surprise when you upload in the week!
😁
You should do more of these, and help people with setting up a enclosure
I love how happy you always are
Love me some enclosure builds.
Omg those new little friends are so beautiful 😍
Good job on the tank! It looks fantastic 😊
Nice. I'm starting to want frogs
I woke up got some coffee started to watch my favorite youtuber make my favorite kind of terrarium im having a very nice start to my day
Using the greatstuff for ponds helps with the look because its black and blends better with peat moss
That Randy Moss joke 👌👌 thanks for the great content as always! I’ve never felt confident that I could build my own enclosure like this but I just may give it a try!
Appreciate you showing everything even mistakes, very helpful
These enclosure build videos are STINKIN' RAD!!!!
Please make more of these totally bodacious videos!!
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoy them. Well keep 'em coming :)
Great video! Would've loved some more frog footage though along with a few species related facts maybe
A video on them will be coming soon.
I'd love to see a video on keeping pet clams and/or oysters.
I love the way that background turned out. Makes me want to build my own. Alas, I have to many projects already.
I’m so glad I found this channel and ways to build tanks. I would have never thought about lightings and features other than substrate/water/rocks. My son loves lizards and reptiles for some reason (probably bc he loves dinosaurs). I’m a dog lover so this is all new to me.
Dry lok and cement liquid color is the best background options! Tried and true. Troy Goldberg on UA-cam is the OG of this method. Love your content 🥰
Thanks for brightening up my day Clint!
The final product looks amazing! 👏
PURIGEN is amazing. You can recharge it. It really works well. I used it for CO2 injected planted tanks. I used to double the advised amount though. Love the end result
You are very awesome 😎. I love that you let us see you put stuff together awesome.
"I informed you thusly!." 🤣🤣 best reference to date.
I've watched this video several times and that part always gets me😂
Future idea but those velcro with tape on the back you can by at most stores, can be put on the back where the foam fills. Then you can use the foam that will fill in the velcro which will support the weight and last almost forever.
I genuinely like the tie you are wearing.
Can you do a tour of all the plants in the background of your filming setup. Those hanging plants (I think hupertzia?) look so healthy!
That looks amazing! Thanks for showing the building process as well. I would definitely like to do something like this for some of my arboreal herps in the future.
that expanding foam looks delicious. the forbidden whipped cream
I love the enclosure set up and all of your other videos!
Thank you!
I love joshsfrogs.com!!!! I get all my frogs and my mourning geckos from there!!! Ive been taking my time to build a stary night world!!! Gorgeous build Clint!!!! Loving this!!!
I think I’m leaning more important stuff for my future than half my school classes from your channel
I just did a similar thing for my Gargoyle Gecko enclosure. For the silicone I found using Mineral Spirits to thin down the silicone helped tremendously. It became a paint-like consistency and I just pained on the silicone then spread the substrate over it. Lots of fumes though so make sure you have ventilation.
Hello Clint, just recently found your channel and I am totally enjoying it.
What a beautifully scaped tank!! I love those little frog babies. I've never heard of starry night Reed frogs, and I want them now that I've seen them.( probably never gonna get them, but still nice to get excited about animals)I will do plenty of research as well as watch the new video that is coming out. I LOVE YOUR CONTENT
Whenever I see a new Clint’s reptiles video, I click on it without even reading the title.
This Video is amazing. I love another channel, go herping, I'm going to link this video in the comments on his thread about a failed reptile enclosure. Thank you so much. Your channel is a dream for a new reptile owner.
I KNEW IT! I LOVE THOSE FROGS! SO CUTE! I've wanted them for ages!
Been wanting to get this tank. What a great tutorial! Hope you checked the tank for leaks before you started!
So I've been wondering this for a while but haven't seen anyone discuss it - when people place live plants in those small holes, what happens when the plant grows? At a certain point won't there not be enough soil/space for its root system and growth? I'd be so appreciative of your advice! Loved watching this :)
They are beautiful!
