Do you think the a7iv is worth it still for the price to specs in 2024, or should go for something else? Let me know your thoughts!
still a good camera but should be $1899.
@@truthseeker6804 very true! That’s why I said that I would definitely recommend the camera when it’s on sale but 100% if you can get it used in good condition for a lower price even better. I wish Sony would lower the price because it would probably help them out a lot more.
I love my A7C2. At the price of the. A7IV I would go with the A7C2. Just my 2 cents.
Yea I get that! Only reason one might want the a7iv is the dual sd card if they need that security for jobs but honestly would be fine still with one haha
Got the A7IV with 20 shutter count for 1600 bucks a few months ago. Absolute bargain. This camera is 3 years old and still tops many other options nowadays, it's still a benchmark today
No way?! What a steal! That’s amazing for you! Glad to hear that!
@@EasyTigerCreative It definitely was great! Thanks for your videos, too. Helped me making that decision.
@@nicolofalghera8622 that means a lot! Glad to hear!
DO NOT INSTALL 3.02 ...IMMEDIATELY AFTER INSTALLING 3.02, THE A7IV COULD NO LONGER CONNECT TO MY MACBOOK. Sony said...we'll take care of it. Send it to Precision Camera. NOW, Precision Camera is trying to charge me over $600 ..."usb issue on main pcb...BULL-LONEY. The camera literally worked perfectly up until the day I installed 3.02. (Also: did it in camera with Creator's App. It was a mistake using Creator's App)...3.02 broke the camera's ability to access mass storage. BTW The camera is 16 months old. This "quality and customer service" I can do without.
Good to know! I have put the update already I believe unless this is one recent in the last week or two but haven’t had any issues. But hopefully it can help others.
Cameras are being treated like smartphone nowadays.. Constantly being subliminally pushed to "upgrade" every 3 years or so
Sadly but true! Honestly I’ve been enjoying using my a7iv even more now lately as I keep testing things out that people ask haha but I know why camera companies push out new cameras to make sales happen sadly.
We are all so spoiled. It's a great time to be alive. This camera is a monster and with all the glass available
That’s the best part is all the good lens choices that helps make this camera even better.
I've been shooting two a7iv bodies for the entire 3 years through weddings, events, real estate and portraits. I see absolutely no reason to "upgrade" it to anything. Admittedly, for video I use an A7s3 and that one could use an update.
That’s cool to know! And yea I think if anything they should just update things via firmware update to polish it up a little more and it’d be set!
this camera still has no successor yet and people are saying it's old... All I can hope is that Sony brings up an Alpha mount camera like they do every 5 years, these are big enough to not have any mechanical limitations like the A7C family and the A6000 series.
Yea I can definitely understand that! I genuinely just would love some firmware updates to use open gate, custom luts and like shutter angle kind of updates that they could do and I’d be set!
@@EasyTigerCreative well, i still have a Sony A77II I've been using for eight years and half and I've achieved pro level photos (I'm a hobbyist), the camera's rubber is all beaten up and the screen cable is halfway detached. I went to Sony certified services and they would charge me 100 bucks for the skin alone. I think it's time to get the A7IV with an adapter
my goal was the a6700 but it is secretly such a bad camera it's not even worth unless you're doing vlogging with a professional touch. The camera can't do 1/8000-1/4000 with mechanical shutter, and when you do with electronic shutter the images look like they've been taken with a smartphone and with horrible rolling shutter
the a7c was another promising camera but when I realized that not only it has a single shutter curtain meaning all your bokeh spheres will come out as rising suns, but also the camera has the same restrictions as the A6700 i just gave up on both
then I wanted the A7III or A7R3 but none of them are compatible with LA-EA5 to use my Minolta lenses with all the af points
my pick would be the A7IV with LA-EA5 then.
@@EasyTigerCreative well I've been using a Sony A200 for 10 years, then switched to an A77M2 and been using it for 8 more years. I have a lot of iconic Minolta lenses and I don't want to dump all of that to switch brand. The main problem with Sony is that their cameras are no longer stills cameras but video cameras with options to take 16k and 32k frames using a shutter mechanism. I was hoping for the A6700 despite it's lack of ergonomics because it was an amazing APSC and would suit me so much since I use full frame lenses to get rid of vignetting and other distortions apart from getting the same bokeh as full frame and crop/magnifying factor since I'm highly biased towards nature and aviation. But the camera can't shoot past 1/4000th with mechanical shutter, not even half a curtain. The rolling shutter with full electronic shutter is awful and people are pretending like it's not there.
Then I thought about the A7C II but not only it has the same restrictions as the A6700 but it also has a single curtain so your bokeh is going to come like rising suns
then I thought about the A7R3 or A7m3 but these don't work with LA-EA5, la-ea4 is the one they can work with and it only has five AF points in the center
then I thought about the Sony A7m4 and despite crop mode has only 14 megapixels it looks more like the kind of real photography tool and not a glorified fx30 with some photography gimmicks.
What's worse is that so many photographers have moved to videography and the videography they do is mostly blogs to sponsor brands and live about it. I said on DPReview that photography AND videography is dying because the newer generations are more likely to record themselves than photo or record anything else, and they know that making themselves look good with a nice background blur seems professional enough to make their L tier takes convincing to the target audience.
I just added the A74 to my lineup a few months ago and I’m blown away. Was primarily shooting on a a9ii and A7r4. The A74 is such an incredible hybrid camera. Seriously love it.
Doubt Sony will bless us with a firmware update though 😢
That’s awesome to hear! And I know I wish they’d listen to give us a nice firmware update!
Worth every penny
That’s great to hear!!!
I have a Sony A7IV and im looking to get a second body. I'll probably wait for A7V because A7RV is a little too high resolution and the sensor is slow and A7SIII is old and too low resolution for stills. So a 40MP A7V with faster sensor would be perfect. 😍
That totally makes sense! I would definitely wait to see what else comes out for you then! I really hope the a7V gets a good update and cool specs that makes it worth it.
how can any 3 year old camera be outdated? would be much more interesting with an a7II, or at least a7III, cuz come on... in what world do we need to change cameras every 3 years?
It is outdated compared to other cameras in the same price point but doesn’t mean it needs to be changed.
A7iv with Sigma 24-70 mark II . absolutely a beast setup
I need to try that lens! Heard great things!
The LUT's features is quite overkill, I never use the monitor on the camera as it is way to small and not that great, so having LUT's in it is not such a needed feature when I have that in all my external monitors.
Yes but I don’t want to HAVE TO bring a monitor though haha I just want to have the option for when I’m on the go.
I just got mine in nov 2023. Wont be outdated for the next 4 yrs for me 😂.
That’s good to hear!!
I got my A7IV in Spring, I love it
That’s so great to hear!!
Totally not bothered about custom LUTS. the screen is so bad I am fine with the standard rec709 look to get an idea of the finished product. I would prefer sony to update there screens when they update the camera next year (I also use the ZV-E1 and the same feeling.
Yea I mean I’m mainly talking about doing the custom luts to bake into photos and video like the Lumix s9 and as well to see what the image could look like without a monitor. It helps me a lot with my videos to get everything in camera right when on the go! But I know it’s just wishful thinking haha I wish they would do a better screen. I feel like they’ll have to for the next one or else people will be not thrilled since that’s been a big complaint from people.
I do a lot of tours and I still use my Sony A74 for video and photography and it still is a beast three years later.
That’s awesome!!
I'm sort of ok with Sony not giving new features for free. I mean that when I'm buying a camera I agree to what the camera has at this point of time. As an IT person working for big company I can understand that it takes lot of effort to make changes in software. Especially when you are at risk of bricking devices that are already with customers and don't have any form of remote support. It is not like you can just copy feature from one model to another. It requires coordination and extensive tests and this is big manpower cost.
I mean I get that point of view but the problem is that they do do firmware updates to some cameras and not all of them. Either they commit to doing them well where they’re giving access to all or it just looks messed up to me. It’s not asking for a lot of features you’d need to having different components in camera but what could be accessed already if they had put other in wire set or like how they do with other camera updates they’ve done.
3rd year on my A7iv as well and still loving the results. Sure I also own an A7RV for studio work with my friend and just got an A9III recently because I have been doing a lot of sports like soccer tournaments and marathons. The A7iv I use mostly for general events.
That’s awesome! That a9iii looks like a beast! Maybe one day I’ll get one but definitely loving the global shutter in it! Seems so convenient for sports photography!
I have a A7c2 but I wouldn't see any reason to upgrade if I had an a74 though. It's a beast still
Totally can understand that! I just want those minor firmware updates to let me do more things like the a7cii and what not haha
STILL WORTH IT , switched from r4 to 4 for the autofocus and file size
That’s great to hear! Yea one of the reasons I didn’t care to go to the a7rV haha the 61mp just seems overkill for most things.
Great camera...only the EVF is crappy toy. 😅
I know! I wish the evf and lcd screen were higher quality too!
Time flight!!!! Thanks for your videos
appreciate you!
except for sports and wildlife this is beast, could u do a video on a1?
Yes that’s true! You can still get by doing sports and wildlife with it but not as good as others haha if I can ever get my hands on the a1, I’ll definitely do a video on it!
If mine did not over heat all the time even in Mild conditions I would not be thinking about getting the FX30 or an FX3. Where I live it is never even humid and not hot like Florida hot and cannot imagine how anybody could deal filming video with an A7IV. The 60 crop is also quite annoying but I have Tampon 17-28 which would good enough for that problem.
Hmm I’m in Texas and my a7iv doesn’t overheat honestly, but I know it really depends how you use it. I do wish the 60 crop wasn’t there but sadly that can’t be fixed with a firmware update haha I wish.
@@EasyTigerCreative Yes I know, it is a hit or miss with the A7IV, I got a bad copy I imagine. No way I could film in Texas in the Summer for more than a few minutes with out it over heating. And yes I have tried all the "tricks" to prevent it. I also shoot 90% in 60p 4K which is probably the main problem as well.
@@ekphotography yeah I think the main reason will be shooting 4K 60 FPS since I think that’s the main culprit when it comes down to the overheating sadly. When I shoot with my a7iv I tend to mainly do 4K 24 frames per second with some 4K 60. But when I did go out in the middle of the heat at the lake in Austin to capture some footage shoot a lot of 4K 60 and didn’t have any signs of heat issues, which was surprising to me.
I still have mine it’s perfect
That’s awesome!!
i just want a camera with the a7riii sensor but stacked
That wouldn’t be too bad!
people need to accept its actually 3 years old
i see people whine so much when they see someone want a7v
Yea I mean in the video department it sadly is outdated but for photo no haha
@@EasyTigerCreative my thoughts exactly.
Yes
What makes it outdated for you?
@@EasyTigerCreative 2021 camera
Still rocking A7R3 I just update my lenses.
Nice!’ What lenses did you get?
@@EasyTigerCreative Sony fe 24-70 F2.8 GM ll and FE 35mm F1.4 GM. Love them. Saving for the 85mm GM ll.
@@etagrats1 that’s awesome! I would’ve loved getting the 24-70 but so pricey 😬 how’s the size of it now? I think they made that one smaller. The 35gm looks unreal! I’ve been wanting to get one but haven’t pulled the trigger haha
@@EasyTigerCreative The 24-70mm mark 2 is smaller and faster with 11 aperture blades, and 4 focus motors. I found myself using it all day on photo walks. The colors and sharpness are on point. Video focus is fast also. I’m not a professional, but this thing hasn’t let me down. Crop mode is about 105mm. Nice. Was going to get the Sigma. But, I feel comfortable with a native lens. Not disappointed at all.
@@etagrats1 that’s awesome to know! Maybe I’ll do that in the future! Looks solid to me!
was already outdated in like a year. with cropped 4k60p and slow sensor. right now, nikon z6iii is top, then canon r6ii, then Panasonic s5ii/iix, then a7iv. sony needs a fully stacked sensor, uncropped 4k60p, and 4k120p slight crop. still 30mp and high fps for photos. to take top spot.
I can understand that! I mean those cameras did come out after I believe all of them so makes sense they’re more updated haha
@@EasyTigerCreative sony needs a fully stacked sensor, uncropped 4k60p, and 4k120p slight crop. still 30mp and high fps for photos. to take top spot.
@@truthseeker6804 I’m sure they’ll do that! Specially since the a7siii has that, they’ll probably give those specs to the a7V but just with a higher megapixel count to make it a hybrid. They’ll probably do 6k 24fps to keep up with other brands since the a7iv already over samples from 7.2k. Just my guess
Outdated???? Hahaha
🤷
