- The Black Arrow is a 1948 American adventure film directed by Gordon Douglas and starring Louis Hayward and Janet Blair. It is an adaptation of the 1888 novel of the same title by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Plot:
The story centers around Richard Shelton, a young man who, upon discovering that his father has been murdered, seeks justice and revenge. His father was slain by a traitorous nobleman, Sir Daniel Brackley, who is a key figure in the conflict between the Yorkists and Lancastrians. Richard joins the fight, but his quest becomes complicated as he navigates political allegiances, discovers hidden truths about his family, and attempts to make his way through a turbulent and divided England. Along the way, he becomes involved with the mysterious Black Arrow, a figure representing the ideals of justice and honor, and must decide which side of the conflict he will ultimately support.

Adequate--barely--adaptation of the Stevenson novel. Good cast. The costumes are handsome, but--with some exceptions--more appropriate to the 12th-13th century than the 15th.
