  • Bhutan, a kingdom hidden away in the Himalayas, told the world once Gross National Happiness counts as much as GDP. Now, it has a new vision to take the country into the future. It will redefine capitalism and yet remain loyal to its famous focus on its people’s well-being. CNA Correspondent travels to Bhutan to find out if it has indeed found that winning formula to strike that delicate balance everyone is seeking between material wealth and happiness?

i visited bhutan more than 5 years ago, part of its charm is the isolation and focusing on living itself. By changing direction to being economy driven will be like 180 degree shift for them. And its too ambitious to be thinking of building metropolitan city without foreign aid like China. When i was there, not even half the country has proper tar road, half of my journey was bouncing around in the car on dirt road.

At some point of time, a piece of land has been occupied by one larger kingdom or other. The point is they joined India of their own voilition. Historically, Sikkim has been a part of India and will remain so.
What kinda history are they teaching at Pakstan(Terror*stan) that says Uttarakhand, a state created in 2000 was a part of another country.

One of the fascinating countries I ever visited. I went there 2 years ago and the guide also told me about his sister who used to work as a hotel manager and moved to Australia and now works there as a cleaning lady but got higher salary. From what they told me, Bhutanese people have a good relationship with Australia because when Covid hit they didn’t fly away to escape but chose to stay and work (which helped the society function).

I must point out that even the some of most environmental friendly countries in the world such as Germany or Norway have not being able to make it work to the same degree. Nah..Bhutan govt prefers to employ foreign workers instead of own people. Recently they decide to employ thousands of foreign nurses which will be paid much higher (even comparable to Bhutanese Dr) than Bhutanese nurses but the problem here is Bhutan got sufficient nursing colleges and there are plenty of Bhutanese nurses but yet they won't employ all of them. Funny how the govt cry about brain drain but wont employ them.🤡 And fyi Bhutan ain't Last Shangri-La anymore, rape and murder cases are seen every once in a while, case of mother abandoning infants are also not rare anymore. Bhutan government should address this asap if not more ppl will be leaving this country.

The Bhutan Megacity project will be difficult to pull off. It will become a white elephant. Plane tickets for the Royal Bhutan Airline is expensive. Accommodation is also not cheap. So only the rich can afford it. But why should they go there for their retreat? Can they get enlightenment faster?? The only thing enjoyable in Bhutan is climbing up to the Tiger Nest Temple. Thailand is already quite well established for Buddhist retreats and will definitely be cheaper.

Thank of a marriage. You would have to give some of yourself away, and to adopt some part of the other party as your own. It goes for both parties of course. You cannot have what modern lifestyle can offer without giving away some of your ideals. Where the balance is? It would be a "suck it and see", or "trial and error" approach.
Because Bhutan has been able to shield itself from outside influence, it really doesn't have a role model to follow. In other words, it doesn't have the foundation for what is to be done. I think Bhutan does suffer from the same dilemmas many Pacific Islands are facing...the economy of scale and isolation.
It doesn't have large enough population to sustain a strong economy. Sadly, a sustainable economy would invariably have some form of industry. Bhutan doesn't have a technology based industry except tourism. That is over-dependence on a single industry as proven by the recent pandemic crisis.
Another dilemma Bhutan is facing is accessibly. While its isolation is a plus in many ways, it is also a curse and a burden on the country obviously. This is the same with the Pacific Islands. Boat transportation is almost the ONLY viable means to travel. Imagine the impacts of a serious cyclones.

World consider Bhutan as a de facto state..foreign policy of Bhutan is under our India policy.. Bhutan is protectorate of India..
Bhutan is our little sister.. Don't call Bhutan puppet even though they are Indian puppet ... Nepal is not much different..
