I also highly recommend sewyyc.ca for your pattern printing! For just a few dollars you don't have to fight with your own printer OR tape/glue pages together and then have everything get crinkled and ripped.

So, there have been legal cases where companies like Simplicity have tried to sue when their patterns are commercially used. The company lost the case due to a case from 1879 (Baker v Selden) being the basis. The actual pattern itself is copyright protected, the items that can be made from the building blocks and instructions aren't covered under copyright law. I do like the amount of new pattern places you listed!

Thanks for the very interesting comment! A few others have mentioned similar points about being able to sell whatever the heck we want that we make out of fabric ourselves. I'm glad this video became a leanring and discussion topic. Happy new year!

One thing I do before I sew and sell with fabric: I always contact the fabric manufacturer before I sew with any fabric asking for permission to use the fabric to create my items to sell for my business. I know the licensed images such as Disney, Marvel, DC Comics and some well known fabric designers do not allow permission for use (I found this out the hard way!). I have seen some online shops that use them or their likeness anyway. That's risky because they will come after you for real (ever heard of Dapper Dan from Harlem? Search and read his story) and Disney does not grant licensing to use their images, like Mickey or Minnie Mouse. Thank you for this video content!

Hi Katelyn, thank you for your video.. yes I agree if anyone is sewing to sell one should alter, adapt, adjust (hack) to bring out your own authentic designs to sell.
