Find an indoor flea market or craft store and most will rent you a space or shelf to sell your stuff and they collect the money for you and you don’t even have to be there. You just go weekly and restock and clean and organize and once a month collect your profits minus your next months rent on your space. I do that and love it because it frees me up to be creative and not be there all the time
There’s one near me and first time I went I thought “this is such an amazing idea”. It also means I can go there anytime during the week if I want to grab something (great place for buying gifts) without having to remember to get to the Sunday markets between 8-12 (or whenever)
I really got into sewing because of the pandemic. I have anxiety and I needed something to do to feel useful. Also, I had family who needed masks. After that I branched out and made a batch of scrub hats for donation. Then I wanted a bucket hat... It snowballed!

I bought my oldest grand daughter a sewing machine for her birthday a few years ago. My daughter does not sew but when we visit we get out the sewing machine and she gets to sew and make cute little things around the house,dog bandanas, we made head wraps, lanyards, just stuff that is really easy to put together and she loves it and younger sis is getting old enough to was to try her hand at it as well.
Very nice and practical list, love it! Couple of things I would add: 1) face masks (for obvious reasons) 2) headbands (good scrap buster, especially for knits) 3) pencil cases (zipper pouch like you presented would do, but it's even better when when the zipper is in the middle and the corners are boxed - this way it serves as a tray) 4) lining for fruit baskets or bowls 5) fabric storage baskets, trays etc.
I do sewing for my relaxation especially the start of the pandemic it’s been so stressful working in the hospital so sewing for me is a way of my distressing my co nurses asking me to sell what I’ve been making but I don’t sell it I do give it as a gift , but maybe when this pandemic finish I will make time to make and sell

Great ideas! Some years ago, I made a scarf for my mother in-law from from a large piece of raw-edged hand-dyed silk in the jewel tone colors she loves that I bought at a craft fair for $30. Because it’s so delicate, it really needs to be hand-hemmed. It took a while, but I did it and my hand-sewing was pretty decent. My mum in-law loved it. So even though the fabric was dyed by someone else, it was made special because of the handwork I did on the hem.
For Farmers Markets sellers, I would consider items that are high impulse, meaning cute, colorful and useful. A whimsical vibe. They would be quick to make and don't cost that much to make. Flea or Farmers Market buyers Are looking for things for a couple of dollars. I would think $5 and under, but you could try other price points depending on the item. Have business cards to hand out to those who have purchased from you, or they could sign up for mailing list, so you could show them your other handmade creations at higher price points. I just love the idea of small home businesses for Women where they can express their creativity and have a sense of satisfaction selling what they make. Home business and online marketing of your crafts can't be beat. 😁😊❤🛍
I am working on greeting cards made from fabric with hand embroidery on it without paper or cardboard. I'm not selling them yet but I'm giving them as gifts. I also sew momerial hearts on key rings.

They are commonly used in offices or wherever you are going to be setting your cell phone down regularly on a hard surface. It just makes it easier on the phone to set it down on something soft. And of course if they're made out of something pretty that's even better! Hope this helps.
Yes I have considered selling at a local farmers market. Sewing and crafting some items now to try and prep for a few items to have on hand to try the market before end of summer
I love the head towel I use them all of the time but I make my own towel wraps too. Because I don’t like the microfibre ones you can buy I just take a normal bath towel measure it around myself and cut off the excess to use for the straps. I then just sew on the Velcro to keep it closed and add the straps. This gives me a nice towel that stays on whilst I am getting ready after a shower or bath xx you can even add a pocket if you like xx
That's true l have gone back to sewing after 8 years and am enjoying it. Am grateful for the idea if sewing for sale because basically I have just been waiting in customers to come through my shop for their clothes alterations or an outfit made for them and when no body comes there is no cash. I'm rewatching this video for inspo on something to make as a gift for my son's teacher and I'm definitely gonna make her a couple of these projects. I think for the reusable makeup wipes I might add a little rectangular piece of fabric on the top of the woven fabric piece to make a "loop" to put a finger or 2 in to help hold it when you use it...or maybe a loop of elastic.
Kelly, I used to be really intimidated by my sewing machine too. But, I made myself learn how to use it, but I also hired a lady to teach me how to use my simple machine and to teach me the basics of sewing). After that, I just watched tons of UA-cam videos, until I found people and projects that spoke to me. One of my favorite people on UA-cam is Erica Arndt. She makes beautiful things and she is an AWESOME teacher, she explains things SO well. Good luck and...don't give up!
If you go through the mere tutorials, even just how to thread and oil and insert a needle, then go on to straight stitches and tension, and bobbin threading, and practice those on junk material you don't care about (old sheets even, that are bound for the dump, and you can get stuff at Goodwill for practice), then if it gets stuck it anything, knots up in the bobbin or anything, you can look how to deal with that on UA-cam as well. Just keep practicing with those and just basic stitches, play around with all your stitches and how to set the tension and stuff until you feel more comfy. Then move on to making a simple repair on something or an entire simple skirt or bag or something. Then move on to something more high tech. Il you can practice with scrap material how to put in zippers. You can take it out and redo it. Then look up how to read patterns. Look up how to make a shirt, some pants, and play with that stuff. And when you run into a problem or want to move up, look that up here too. Just do this, play with it and have fun, and before you know it you'll be making it all.
Please don’t let your machine intimidate you! I would suggest you think about and write down why it intimidates you. There are heaps of videos to look at and groups to join for advice. Read the manual for your machine from cover to cover then grab some clean fabric, old sheeting or similar, and just take the time to play with machine over and over till you are more confident with it! You can do it!
I make many things, hot pads, zipper bags, mug rugs, also crocheted items but just don’t know how to price things. My granddaughter has offered to help me with Etsy but then I am afraid it will be to much pressure to get things done. I have totes full of things I have made even though I do use them for gifts :) Just my rambling thoughts, I love your videos ❤️
You can check out Etsy to see how things are priced. That will give you an idea of how to price yours if your interested. Also, if you only sell ready made items, there is less pressure because you’ll only be selling what you’ve already made. Best wishes,

I just found your vlog and you are lucky you sell your items….I did craft shows years ago and ran into the problem of people wanting cheap…. One idea I have is as a gardener and it being so popular now would be garden aprons made out of painters tarps with many pockets for tools and string and even a water bottle pocket. Also large veggie carriers where you can fill it corn or squash and it’s still light enough to carry. Another if you could design a sun visor hat that has the top open but the visor blocks the sun from the face. My garden hats make my head hot and I’m always trying to find something cooler. One more idea would be a dog carrier wrap like they have for babies…..the ones I have seen seem so heavy and in warm weather hot for the pup. Good luck on your business.

Ashley, hello there. It is not about how to decide or come up with the price - you have to count it out. Price of resources, time, expertise, equipment, software, even things like listing price online and ordering packaging. You can simple google how to price your handmade goods and what goes into pricing and go from there.

If it helps you can upcycle old things into new, do a search for ideas. And practice on old sheets or curtains even, anything that is no longer if use.
The head wrap is a neat idea, with the "curly girl" concept. You could make the wraps out of tee shirt fabric (or 2nd hand tee shirts., or line the terrycloth cloth ones with tee shirt fabric. I think to be truly successful selling items, you need something no one else is selling or to be competitive you'll have to sell very cheap/how would there be a profit? But you do pkg your things extremely nice!
I think it also about presentation, the thought/effort that goes into it, style and overall idea! You have to have a direction, not just a million odd things to sell - in my opinion. These are just some ideas to get people started with what they have!

In England, fabric is too expensive to make it worth your while. No one wants to pay a realistic price. What I do instead is make things to donate to my local animal shelter. They sell them, and we both win, I like to be busy, they get a donation.
Find material at thrift stores via sheets, tablecloths, donated clothing to upcycle, advertise in local groups for clothing or garage sale leftovers. Lots of ways to get fabric nearly free :)

A coworker has seen a pillow that I made and has asked me to make her some. I'm not really ready to sell things I sew, I need more practice for that. However every 2 years the nursing home I work at has a lillte fall market where we sell things that have been made during the year in projects or by people from the village etc. Maybe I'll be able to contribute to that. On the other hand if someone saw things I made as gifts for friends and asks for one for themselfes I would ask a price.
I agree the world is turning to more sustainable living. Where I live , all one time use plastic is banned. There are no plastic bags or even paper bags at our stores. They will sell you a reusable tote for $2 each (they aren’t very nice ones but usable) if you didn’t bring anything , otherwise you bring your own. Heavy duty tote bags are great sellers here. Especially the kind that fold up with a button or zipper and you can just throw them in your purse.
Wow, that's amazing! I am sure it has impacted the community and the way of thinking/caring of things as well! That's great - oh yes, I think I have seen some bags like that, that you can fold. Really smart!
What's also nice about the cloth grocery bags, you can throw them in the washer and dryer. The plastic fancy bags with nice handles and pretty decorations need to be sprayed with something like lysol. I would much rather wash them.

I'm rewatching this video for inspo on something to make as a gift for my son's teacher and I'm definitely gonna make her a couple of these projects. I think for the reusable makeup wipes I might add a little rectangular piece of fabric on the top of the woven fabric piece to make a "loop" to put a finger or 2 in to help hold it when you use it...or maybe a loop of elastic.
That is such a great idea, like a one of those square potholder where you can put your hand inside, but on a smaller scale!
I have a sewing machine. I am intimidated to use it. I think these simple ideas may be what I need to feel comfortable.
Kelly, I used to be really intimidated by my sewing machine too. But, I made myself learn how to use it, but I also hired a lady to teach me how to use my simple machine and to teach me the basics of sewing). After that, I just watched tons of UA-cam videos, until I found people and projects that spoke to me. One of my favorite people on UA-cam is Erica Arndt. She makes beautiful things and she is an AWESOME teacher, she explains things SO well. Good luck and...don't give up!
If you go through the mere tutorials, even just how to thread and oil and insert a needle, then go on to straight stitches and tension, and bobbin threading, and practice those on junk material you don't care about (old sheets even, that are bound for the dump, and you can get stuff at Goodwill for practice), then if it gets stuck it anything, knots up in the bobbin or anything, you can look how to deal with that on UA-cam as well. Just keep practicing with those and just basic stitches, play around with all your stitches and how to set the tension and stuff until you feel more comfy. Then move on to making a simple repair on something or an entire simple skirt or bag or something. Then move on to something more high tech. Il you can practice with scrap material how to put in zippers. You can take it out and redo it. Then look up how to read patterns. Look up how to make a shirt, some pants, and play with that stuff. And when you run into a problem or want to move up, look that up here too.
Just do this, play with it and have fun, and before you know it you'll be making it all.
Please don’t let your machine intimidate you! I would suggest you think about and write down why it intimidates you. There are heaps of videos to look at and groups to join for advice. Read the manual for your machine from cover to cover then grab some clean fabric, old sheeting or similar, and just take the time to play with machine over and over till you are more confident with it! You can do it!
I make aprons out of home decor cotton fabric. I like the ones that are animals. I use a check or plaid to put on as trim.
I'm making place mats for my kitchen table right now. Might be something nice to coordinate with apron and oven mits as a set to sell.

I love the little makeup removers. You could even make a little bowl or fabric box to hold them.
I make many things, hot pads, zipper bags, mug rugs, also crocheted items but just don’t know how to price things. My granddaughter has offered to help me with Etsy but then I am afraid it will be to much pressure to get things done. I have totes full of things I have made even though I do use them for gifts :)

You can check out Etsy to see how things are priced. That will give you an idea of how to price yours if your interested. Also, if you only sell ready made items, there is less pressure because you’ll only be selling what you’ve already made. Best wishes,

I just found your vlog and you are lucky you sell your items….I did craft shows years ago and ran into the problem of people wanting cheap….
One idea I have is as a gardener and it being so popular now would be garden aprons made out of painters tarps with many pockets for tools and string and even a water bottle pocket. Also large veggie carriers where you can fill it corn or squash and it’s still light enough to carry.
Another if you could design a sun visor hat that has the top open but the visor blocks the sun from the face. My garden hats make my head hot and I’m always trying to find something cooler.
One more idea would be a dog carrier wrap like they have for babies…..the ones I have seen seem so heavy and in warm weather hot for the pup.

Ashley, hello there. It is not about how to decide or come up with the price - you have to count it out. Price of resources, time, expertise, equipment, software, even things like listing price online and ordering packaging. You can simple google how to price your handmade goods and what goes into pricing and go from there.
I always make and use potholder and i only use batting. I have never burned myself. it's much cheaper and environmentally friendly

Until the COVI-19, I had not touched a sewing machine for over 40 years! I made my pantsuits and that was the last time I sewed!

If it helps you can upcycle old things into new, do a search for ideas. And practice on old sheets or curtains even, anything that is no longer if use.
The head wrap is a neat idea, with the "curly girl" concept. You could make the wraps out of tee shirt fabric (or 2nd hand tee shirts., or line the terrycloth cloth ones with tee shirt fabric. I think to be truly successful selling items, you need something no one else is selling or to be competitive you'll have to sell very cheap/how would there be a profit? But you do pkg your things extremely nice!
I think it also about presentation, the thought/effort that goes into it, style and overall idea! You have to have a direction, not just a million odd things to sell - in my opinion. These are just some ideas to get people started with what they have!
i bought a head wrap like you showed, 2 in the pack for below 10, this is why i wonder if how tough it is to make money for handmade items. tough to compete.

This is amazing and can help saving our Earth cause is reusable.
In England, fabric is too expensive to make it worth your while. No one wants to pay a realistic price. What I do instead is make things to donate to my local animal shelter. They sell them, and we both win, I like to be busy, they get a donation.
Find material at thrift stores via sheets, tablecloths, donated clothing to upcycle, advertise in local groups for clothing or garage sale leftovers. Lots of ways to get fabric nearly free :)
Upcycling men's shirts into women's wear is very sellable! Everyone wants something you can't buy from WalMart.

A coworker has seen a pillow that I made and has asked me to make her some. I'm not really ready to sell things I sew, I need more practice for that. However every 2 years the nursing home I work at has a lillte fall market where we sell things that have been made during the year in projects or by people from the village etc. Maybe I'll be able to contribute to that. On the other hand if someone saw things I made as gifts for friends and asks for one for themselfes I would ask a price.

I agree the world is turning to more sustainable living. Where I live , all one time use plastic is banned. There are no plastic bags or even paper bags at our stores. They will sell you a reusable tote for $2 each (they aren’t very nice ones but usable) if you didn’t bring anything , otherwise you bring your own. Heavy duty tote bags are great sellers here. Especially the kind that fold up with a button or zipper and you can just throw them in your purse.
Wow, that's amazing! I am sure it has impacted the community and the way of thinking/caring of things as well! That's great - oh yes, I think I have seen some bags like that, that you can fold. Really smart!
What's also nice about the cloth grocery bags, you can throw them in the washer and dryer. The plastic fancy bags with nice handles and pretty decorations need to be sprayed with something like lysol. I would much rather wash them.
