Auto modelista is amazing. Showed this to my buddy who used to live in Japan and it didn't phase him. He knew exactly what it was and I was so surprised that someone actually knew what this game was.
Fun fact: for some reason, the Japanese release has different grip characteristics to the U.S Export, in that the U.S Export is more slidey, and the Japanese release is more grippy.
This happened with the original Gran Turismo as well. Arcade mode was added SPECIFICALLY for the American demographic as they thought they’d be too dumb (something along those lines) to be wanting to play Simulation mode. They couldn’t be more wrong.
If you enjoy this game so much I recommend the PS2 game called "Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift 2." It is very similar in many ways to this game and has a few more car options and a better menu layout in my opinion. It also has a fun career mode, too!
Tokyo xtreme racer drift 2 is meh. I would know I have it. This games garage is killing it. And menu music. Tokyo xtreme racers career was better in my opinion.
One thing I loved about this game is that it had a "car meet" type of thing which was after you put on your custom decals and stuff you went online (which took forever but still worked) and drove around a little area with other ppl and could check out their designs.. super cool feature. Usually other cars would flock around the car with the best design in the "lobby".
I loved this game...back when I had my PS2 I applied to be in the PS Beta program and got a pre-release version of this game that was online only. Loved the animation style of this game.
In 1997 when I was 10 years old I brought our family Pentium 1 computer over to a friend's house, we hooked the 2 computers together with a console cable and played Sierra NASCAR Racing 2 in co-op mode....I now work as a systems administrator

Now, I'm know I'm getting old. Auto Modellista is getting love? Omg, this is the last game I thought I'd see on UA-cam. This was such a great game to play as a kid. It's funny, I'd mention some of the cars this game had to my friends and they'd think I was silly because most of them had never heard of nor seen the Japanese counterparts to the cars they knew at the time, yet these were the ones I was acquainted with. God, the memories. This game was a blast back in the day, good review!

Akagi had more than just vibes for Initial D. The Takahashi brothers are from Akagi. There's only 2 races in Akagi throughout the show: when Takumi races the guy in the Lan Evo 3, and when Ryosuke races the same dude, both during Act 2.
