I'm not a fan of their sales tactics. Unless the shop is willing to discount the dress to fit within the bride's budget, they have NO BUSINESS putting her in a dress that is SO over budget!

They do this on almost every episode. I can't stand it, why ask what their budget is if you're not going to follow it.
What she wanted it was difficult to keep under budget.
Quite often, brides INSIST on trying on dresses, knowing they are out of their price range.
The Kleinfeld version of this show has a rule that they never show a bride a dress over their budget. That way they see what's available at their price-range and don't get their hopes up.

Pretty sure Lori owns her store, but she does negotiate with the designers sometimes to lower prices.

Thankfully there are shops out there that do respect a brides budget. I went dress shopping with my best friend a month ago and the sales woman only got dresses in her budget.

Randy on SYTD in NYC never picks out a dress thats over the brides budget. He understand the hurt feelings that can arise from falling in love with a dress you cannot have. Or, worse, giving in to the temptation & getting into debt.
She did mention on the first dress she tried that the type of dress she is wanting comes with a bigger price tag.

That is absolutely my dream Steampunk dress, I absolutely adore everything about it, and I can tell that it fits her style so exactly... but it feels so unprofessional the consultant would place her in that dress nearly double over budget. If you're gonna make someone fall in love with, then you better be willing to help pay for it...

@@adnel4142 They should've brought it out in the first place! They're consultants, their job is it help a bride find the perfect dress within their budget. The bride told them exactly what she wanted, and what her price range was, and they still went ahead and ignored her wishes. It's like paying for tickets at a concert online and after you get there, the price of admissions has increased and you cant get in. Brides probably pay extra for consultants like this who can help them find the right dress for their big day. Finding the right wedding dress is an important event for brides and this consultant ruined everything by ignoring the bride's wishes for something in her price range. Who wants to start a marriage in dept because of a dress worn for one day?

The thing I HATE about this bridal shop is knowing her budget they go overboard in price more often than not. The pirate bride looked her style in both dresses. Both of which were way out of the budget.
As a steampunk fan myself there are WAY less expensive dresses in this style you could buy that can be handmade for you for under £2000.
I was just thinking I could make that dress for less than $1000 when I read your comment.
Once she's back at home sharing with her friends and Co workers, someone will tell her of other places more within her budget.
And if you get it handmade and design it then it’s also a one of a kind nothing like it in the whole word thing that the consultant was saying to manipulate the bride
I wondered that myself. Having such a particular vision, she might have been happier if she went to a seamstress. A bridal boutique like this is unlikely to have many choices in her particular style, and they will be costly due to both the workmanship and materials involved, and the fact that they are more rare. But I imagine a seamstress could make something she would love for 2000. And maybe make the skirt work better with riding off on a motorcycle as well. But I do think that truly budget-minded brides are not going to such a fancy place in the first place.
And if it's the only one in the world, how are they going to get it to be fitted to her size? They had to cover the entire back with a different material so her bra wasn't feeling on camera.
As someone who loves metal culture and the fashion that goes with it, she could easily go to independent designers and shops up and down the UK and find something a bit more in budget. It's gorgeous and she looks amazing. It's just as shown here, it's hard to keep to a budget when you're shown probably the only colourful different dress they have. Not as many options so makes it easier to manipulate the bride into almost doubling her budget. But, ah well it does suit her so well.

@Plumeria bullshit, i just found nearly the exact same dress on etsy for $775. this shop absolutely scammed the hell out of this bride. and she's clearly upset, she's just been duped into believing there's no alternative, precisely because of language like "if you want drama it's going to be expensive."
I really appreciate how the family and the mom was supportive of the bride's unique style. Usually the family's trying to convince the bride to get a traditional white dress, but this family all cried when she came out in what she wanted. What a wonderful, supportive family, I hope she can get the dress she wants!

WITH A BIG SMILE THE WHOLE TIME! Like what the hell?! And announcing to the camera but not to the bride or the family that “really there was only designer” they could POSSIBLY work with which automatically placed thei options out of budget... but had she told them her plan up front to only work with this one expensive line, they could have made the call to proceed or not... rather than carry on, and on, and on! The way the consultant convinced her was rude, straight up marketing, and playing with feelings: “it’s one of a kind, the only in the world” with a stupid hypocritical smile on the face and it’s sad that she’ll have to go back home and sell stuff around cause she fell in love with a dress she couldn’t afford. Your dress is not about the price tag but when it’s above your budget, the consultant SHOULD let you know BEFORE you put it on. They do it at kleinfield.
It's one of a kind and doesn't come close to fitting, so they'll also have to pay for major alterations!

I remember working as a bridal consultant and always being instructed to not follow the budget too much because they will "pay more if they love the dress." I always felt so guilty and did my best to stay within budget. And the price tag is before alterations, slip, and veil. It's crazy.
Unfortunately that doesn't work for everyone, as I am a peasant i don't have thousands of £ to spend on a bloody dress.. If I were to go into a bridle store and they put me in a dress that was twice my budget, I'd simple leave and buy a prom dress for a few hundred £.
When I got married 20 years ago my dress was less than $400. It had a ball gown skirt and to make it stand out like I wanted it to (and because we were having an outdoor wedding in the South in June) I needed a hoop skirt. The shop wanted me to purchase a hoop skirt to wear under and I told them they were crazy. I’d never use it again. I did get my dress there but I found another bridal shop that rented petticoats and hoop skirts. I wish I had gone to the other place to begin with.

the dress is way too small for her too! there is another grand in alterations to get it to fit her...did you you see the panel they pinned to the back to get it on her....most emotional times in life...weddings and funerals.....

If she found a good dress maker..she could have gotten exactly what she wanted within budget..and even some more..
She is a full figure woman and many stores even bridal boutiques do not carry many of the larger sizes. Even here she could barely get into the dresses she was trying on.. What she didn't do and should have done was go online and see what was available and the relative cost so she would have been better prepared and saved up more. She must know since this is her preferred style that these items are pricy because of the additional labor and some times the material involved.
They're completely in the wrong for putting her in a dress almost twice her budget then trying to convince her to buy it, but when you're looking for what she was, why go there? Most of their dresses are white and not steampunk, and the few they have that fit her vision are out of budget. Seems like there would be better places to go than here.

@@dietotaku yeah but because she had such specific style they wanted to show that they can provide for all brides ("they like a challenge" as David said), which in a way they did, they did find the dress even though it did come a "little" higher price.
Plus it's the bride's choice to go on TV, SHE wanted to go on the show, I don't know why because if I were her with that style request, I wouldn't go to "regular" bridal store cos I know they wouldn't have EXACTLY what I want or much choice.

The trick with this shop, it to tell them 1000 less than your actual budget, then they will put you in something at your exact budget. If you tell them your real budget they instantly add 1000 in their brains.

If you are an alternative bride, you can do much better on a budget by having a dress made for you by a seamstress. There are great options on Etsy (I'm a former wedding planner and blogger). I would be pretty annoyed if a dress consultant manipulated one of my brides the way this shop does. Never ever put something out of budget on a bride! You will taint their wedding experience with even more stress by having them scramble and over extend themselves even more than they already are. This was so shady.

The bride should have been told of the price before she tried it on... There's this thing called RESPECT for your customers especially when they have told the consultant of their budget. Very, very rude and INSENSITIVE, Ms Consultant.
If she was concerned about the budget the bride should have asked. also she didn'tgive a firm number. When they do the consultants try to bring them gowns within or nearly within the budget. The consultants are also somewhat handicapped in that the larger the dress size the higher the cost. Yet this is dangerous territory because too much information might be giving the impression that they are body shaming the bride.

Idk it's probably just some made up drama they came up with like they do with so many other episodes. It would make more sense if she already found this dress online, had the budget for it and then the production team wanted her to come on the show with a lower budget just for the extra suspense.

@@dexterdy1897 - DRAMA of the magnitude that the steampunk bride wanted comes with a PRICE TAG, she obviously didn't do any research into the price of gowns with TITANIC STYLE DRAMA AND BLING. The consultant did warned her with the dress prior to the purple gown, but she tried the purple gown on anyway. She underestimated the price range for her style of drama and bling because she did no research; so she gave herself sticker shock.

Yes the dress is gorgeous and she looks beautiful in it......However nearly double the budget, then add alterations cost on top of that..... and no way she can safely wear that dress on a motorbike. Whilst I understand that her style would be more expensive, they should have explained that BEFORE they started the appointment and told her the price of each individual dress BEFORE she tried it on. The consultant applied pure manipulation and emotional blackmail to make the commission.
I loved the purple dress! She looks amazing in it. BEAUTIFUL! I wish they would do a follow up of this one. If it truly is the only dress like it in existence, it is well worth the pics!

A bride should never be shown a dress that is almost twice her budget. The consultant should know better.
The second brides mother in law looks absolutely gorgeous, her eyes are just sparkling with love!
It is unfair when the consultant knows a certain designer’s dresses are all over budget. I mean, show her the dresses before putting them on, but tell her those styles are all over her budget.
This is why Gok is the only consultant from the UK episodes I like. He actually respects the clients.
That and more. He listens to what THEY want and will alter the dress in the fitting room to make sure it's what they want. He works with them until they feel beautiful and confident AND the gowns are original and within budget.
Fancy showing her a dress twice her budget without telling her the price before she put it on. That’s unacceptable behaviour. She needs to go to the naughty chair.

my daughter had a renaissance handfasting (closer to steampunk look), she bought a corset, we had a skirt/petticoats/ camisole special made and everything came to under $500 USD.
The brides with big budgets have been given low cost dress and brides with low budget get a huge budget dress. They should work within the budget.
Why not make a dress on the same lines as the one she likes? Or have one made- there are lots of folks in goth/steampunk fandoms who are costumers

I think "the only one in the world" is only a marketing pitch.
Right? If this is the only one, how are they going to make it for her? It's like 10 sizes too small. Oh, right....it's not the only one. They'll make a new one that's actually in her size. Sure, this designer might make completely unique giwns, but they don't only make one of them.

The best part, is the emotions!! We have different culture, but for all brides to be, the emotions after finding "the outfit" is so similar!! It always brings back the happy memories 😊
WTF ? Why ask what her budget is when you ignore it?
For an alternative style wedding dress, she’s better off going to a seamstress or purchase from an online store/Etsy.
That way, she’s likely to find something that suits her taste without the wedding mark up (since a lot of alternative wedding dresses aren’t really marketed as wedding dresses).
I went with an alternative dress also (red Renaissance gown) and got my dress custom made for $600 online. That may not be to everyone’s taste, but you’re unlikely to find that type of service at a bridal boutique. The boutique WILL charge a premium if you want something totally different, even though ‘different’ doesn’t necessarily translate to ‘more work/hours’ put into the gown.
The first bride purple dress isn't going to be any easier to ride a bike. I'm surprised nobody mentioned that. 🤷
For real! Everything else aside, you cannot ride in that unless you can tie it up from the inside of the skirt. It's a lovely dress but my goodness.

I see that SYTTD UK is still ongoing. I hope they're receiving their viewers' feedback and start changing the way they do things. It's just ridiculous to see consultants and David Emanuel put the bride-to-be in dresses that are above their budget without telling them first, then find these women say they'd go back home to see what they could sell to afford the dress they said yes to. And as much as I enjoy watching most of the episodes, I am tired of seeing the exact same dresses in every episode by Dando London. It makes me wonder if the guests don't realize that many brides have gone for the same cookie cutter dresses they're trying on urgh.

I have ZERO respect for the consultant. Her budget was 2,000 yet she refused to show dresses in budget.
Mad me so mad they weren’t communicating prices to the bride before trying on the dress. Very inconsiderate and I felt like she kept putting her in dresses that were more and more out of the budget.
The steam punk dress looked beautiful on this lovely bride. I am sorry the consultant went so far over budget. This was an unkind thing to do. Young people deserve a wedding that will not force them into debt. Still I hope they have a good day and a happy life together ❤
Glad to see we're all in agreement on steampunk dress. I wasn't so much offput by the fact the consultant showed her a dress out of budget but more a combination of: she waited until everyone saw the dress and loved it to even bother mentioning the price AND she had no shame or timidness at stating the price. Just did so with an obnoxious grin that felt a little too smug. And the wording "only dress in the world" almost feels like it's implying there aren't even alternate sizes to be made. Sorry folks, that showroom gown is the only one they've made. Unlikely considering she sold it and the one tried on couldn't even do up in the back. ALSO, they always mention the price of the dress itself, but it's not specified whether alterations are included or an additional cost (I assume additional cost). So not only was the dress INSANELY over budget, she could be looking at an additional alterations cost of 200-600 pounds!

Consultants should stop putting brides in dresses that cost more than their budget. It's disrespectful to the bride and it feels manipulative.

What’s the point asking for a budget when you’re not gonna put her in a dress within that?
If someone put me in a dress they knew was thousands over budget I would leave there and then. I think it’s so rude that this store in particular do this so often.
Just my opinion, granted I work retail, I know how they want you to do things, but if the consultant lead with "I've got a dress that sounds like it fits your description, but the price is X. Do you want to see it, or shall we just move on?" Let your customer know, hey I may have something, BUT. I get upselling, I get making the deal regardless, but I also make sure I keep my customer informed of what kind of $$ we are talking about before we head to the register.
Why do they even ask what the bride’s budget is if it’s irrelevant to them

This dress is absolutely stunning, she looks GORGEOUS in it, and honestly something I would pick for myself as well. But if I ever walked into a bridal shop with a 2000 budget and they didn't have the decency to respect that? I'd walk out. Absolutely absurd and completely disrespectful

The first dress is nearly 1000 over her budget. Why would they bring it to her.
They sort of clued her in at the beginning that steampunk style dresses were very pricy. It is a very attractive look but this bride does not rock it. This style looks best on tall narrow waisted and narrow hipped women since the cut and material are designed to enhance what nature skimped on. She can forget about riding her bike to the wedding because of the fulness of the skirt and the off shoulder sleeves. Over all though the dress looked very good on her.
If she was my friend or sister, I would so help her afford the steam punk dress. She absolutely deserves it!
