- In Europe it is widely taught that modern science owes its origins to Greeks and the Judeo-Christian civilization. Correspondingly, in Pakistan school children are taught that there would be no science without Islam. Where lies the truth? Pervez Hoodbhoy discusses the matter.

How did you date Indian Civilization as 3000 BC? How do you define civilization or science?
How about the other Civilizations? What are your sources? AFAIK no Indian says that the first man emerged out of India...

Being in Pakistan, Prof Hoodbhoy is not completely free to comment without bias, but somewhere at the end of discussion he admits that the knowledge acquired during golden period of islam is in fact originated from Greek. Abbassid period encouraged collection of knowledge from conquered lands, including Indus, and helped translate them for further discussion. But this process was only until Ghazalee stopped them.

A Muslim can be Arab, Persian, Turk, etc. And scientific accomplishment of an Arab can be owned by Arab only, not Muslims. (Ideally speaking in modern terms, a scientist as an individual is sole owner of his discovery, intellectual contribution; No need to share his/her personal accomplishment with race, ethnicity, religious community he/she belongs to)
This stupidity of intermixing religion with ethnicity can be found only in Al Bakistan- Duffer's own country

First of all, only people from Brahmin and similar elitist groups, varnas within Hinduism have been recorded to have led to the discoveries and usefulness, practical applications of those discoveries was also confined. So massive apartheid did exist within Hindus. So it's completely valid to doubt if these discoveries were really Hindu discoveries and contribution to sciences.

I appreciate your work in Pakistan and I would like to say that Indian Philosophy and Hinduism are totally two different things, if anyone follows karma or pray to the infinite number of gods they have, they are actually following the Hinduism or the Brahminical Hinduism which based on the myths which was written in the present day India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc. whereas the Indian philosophy is different and mainly comprises of 6 schools of Thoughts which contradicted each other at every aspect like some thoughts say that earth is flat some say earth is round and put forward arguments on their favor but the main problem is after the arguments put forward it doesn't come at a conclusion and left at the mercy of the interpreter to interpret which at the end will make everything more confused to those interpreters of that century. I think basic science started somewhere in Africa as it is highly likely that with formation of agro based societies they first started the scientific thought also and some of our basic scientific postulates which we take for granted today highly likely that they might have started this which was transferred orally and by the way the stock market and loan on the shares of stocks started around 1600s by the dutch east India company

Religion is sanatan dharm you idiot. And brahmin is not a religion. Theory goes like this, world is thought of as a human which emerged from brahma then his mouth is brahmin , hand is kshatriya, stomach is vaishya and feet is sudras. Based on this just kike different body part perfect different function , different caste will perform different function in society. If you will study anthropology or sociology you will learn that division of labour has always happened in society. Read marx for division of labour. Like French society had three estate, nobels , clergy and commoners. Feudal system has serfs. Like that only. Ofcourse with time exploration happened by one class over another which lead to lot of social problems hence that division of labour was removed from society and that's how reformation happened in any society. Social division of labour is very essential part of any society for its functioning and that was the function of caste at that time.
