Dave Edmunds, a very accomplished vocalist and guitarist. anything with him and Nick Lowe in it is an instant classic. they were just so cool in the late 70s.

First of all the song by Elvis Costello is Revolver-era Beatles brilliant. But this is the arrangement that put it over the top. After all these years I'm honestly still in awe of it.

The bassplayer said ones: "it doesn 't mather what the words are, as long as it sounds good". I can not disagree more with the producer of 3 albums of the song smith of this pearl.

The vocalist had a mature voice back then. Today, he maintains a crisp, clear diction, better than most of the golden oldies for his age. Under rated and underutilised. Raw sound would have been accepted among the classics of 1950's. 1979 was a remarkable year full of many one hit wonders. Timing!

+jasonwheel As well as Rockpile's Seconds of Pleasure album, check out Dave Edmunds' Repeat When Necessary album - it's the same Rockpile group, just under his name. Came out a little before the Rockpile album, IIRC Likewise with Nick Lowe's Labour of Lust album. So really, there are three damned good albums that Rockpile gave us....

Agreed...it seems a bit odd that the members of the band achieved more solo success than as members of the band itself. Great musicians, nonetheless. Cheers.

I saw Dave Edmunds perform live earlier this year . In the audience was Terry Williams although he didnt perform. . I met them both separately in the theatre bar afterwards .I had taken along 3 albums for signing by Dave so having Terry there was a bonus. Dave refused to sign the Rockpile group LP although he did sign his own. ( Also there was Andy Fairweather-Low ). Terry told me there were `too many issues` for the original Rockpile ever to reform.

This has always been my fav' by Dave Edmunds. I find it hard to keep still to this & I felt the same in 1979 when I was 11. His 1st hit was a remake of Smiley Lewis's 1955 song I Hear You Knocking which was his biggest of 12 hits & 1 of 4 top 10s. This Dave's 5 & 2nd biggest reaching number 4 on 30th-June-79. He & Elvis Costello were right, boy can they talk & talk & talk & talk.......... & at the end of it all they have said nothing!!!
