Looks like a handy little machine to have.
I guess if it's really hard clay. You could anchor the digger to the deere or pickup. Yeah you will need to move your anchor point. But you'll be able to dig quite a bit faster.
Like the sunshade. I have got to put one on mine. this summer sun is cooking my old head.
Hi - Look, I don't wanna come over as a smartarse, but you're trying to take too big a bite. 'Scrape' off 4 or 5" at a time and go down gradually. Try to move the dipper and boom together. Go to a construction site and watch a digger at work if you can, and you'll see what I mean. You'll put far less strain on the machine as well. Best of luck to you.

I agree with what the others said and that they would rather rent a real backhoe.
Unless you’re going to use it all the time a rental mini-excavator is most likely a much better option. The local rental place where I live will rent you a Bobcat mini-excavator for two days for under $300 with a trailer to transport it as long as you can tow it yourself.
Thanks, but I already own my own mini, I was basically making the same statement that you did. The Harbor Freight backhoes are "toys".

Digging the sun shade. Going to add that to our list of upgrade to-dos. So far we've added front wheels and upgraded the hydraulic pump so it's faster (ua-cam.com/video/VIQbUcIsBvg/v-deo.html). Thanks for posting!
Painfully slow but better than hand digging I guess
Much, much more powerful than hand digging ever will be.. You can swap the hydraulic pump for speed increase.

Machine is light duty, but running with four sticks can't be easy. Being that they already had the tractor the backhoe for it is not that far from this price point, way better built and has resale value. Ethier way you gotta use what you got. If he guy had the backhoe attachment they would have told him he need an excavator.
