- 3 July, Kingston, Jamaica. I'm walking in the street as the hurricane "slams into Jamaica", or at least the media says so. But this is what's ACTUALLY happening in Kingston, Jamaica as Hurricane Beryl is making landfall in Jamaica?

I’d rather watch news from the locals than from what is reported by Canada or the USA

Exactly!
***Who gears up, smiling ear to ear, looking for a hurricane, alone in the street? Only a person that loves Jamaica. I am impressed.
and weather people pon de news. Dem love a disaster (or at least the buildup)
Me too♥️🇯🇲♥️🇯🇲♥️
White people ting dat. Dem fearless😂
@sharainedoyen490 true but you forgot one last thing also their is black ppl out there standing and walking too I guess we all are fearless when it comes too bad weather. Otherwise the streets looks clearly and clean. Gracias
I was in Jamaica when Gilbert hit in 1988. It was an unusual hurricane because it actually tricked us into thinking it left, then many people went out on the streets to assess the damage done. While we were out and about, it returned with a vengeance, and did even more damage. I think that is how most people lost their lives. I was also in St. Thomas, which got the brunt of it. I remember a few people in my community went missing… one was never found… they said he was washed away in the rivers. They were stubborn and never heeded the hurricane warnings, so they stayed home until it was too late. By the way, prior to Hurricane Gilbert, it was a major storm in 1951, which is why most people didn’t take the Gilbert warnings seriously.
I experienced Gilbert , but i was not tricked. My parents experienced Charlie in the 50’s , and told us about the eye! The calm before the storm, eye’ returns. Im sure a lot of people were tricked.
Wait for the other side of the eyewall to pass. And bear in mind the wind will be blowing in opposite direction..
I was also in St Thomas. Gilbert was brutal.
My great grandmother's house was ruined in Whitehorse's, right around teh bend as you come up the hill on the left was destroyed during Gilbert. Florida was also devastated.
Reason been it had lots of eyes
Gilbert was rough, I hope nobody experiences that with Beryl. The whole island was devastated.
So happy you are there to let us see for ourselves what's going on. We worry a lot for our family back there but seeing this helps our anxiety. Keey up the good job
I’m viewing from Luxembourg 🇱🇺 thanks 🙏 for sharing

You are in Barbican, St. Andrew. Just saw a video about Morant Bay/Whitehorses St. Thomas. Water and debris all over the roads. Stay safe and be prepared. It's coming!
The calm before the storm 😢
Irina, you had me cracking up. You reminded me of me when I was waiting for a hurricane a few years back. What you were experiencing was what is known as, the calm before the storm. Still keeping my fingers 🤞 that the storm change it's mind or move fast because, better to have a fast moving one than one that lingers for hours. I hope everyone stays safe.
The calm before the storm and no animals is the weirdest feeling
I have family in the Greater Portmore area and long time friends in Mocho in Clarendon, I pray they all stay safe. Thanks for the updates, but be careful not to get in trouble regarding the curfew. Stay safe. Prayers for all in Jamaica.
I love your videos Irie, plz stay safe!
Oh my- Ive seen Jamaica street look so desolate. Thanks for the update Irie and you and your family remain please remain safe. We appreciate all your work to keep us abroad connected.
Sending positive vibes to our Jamaican Brothers! Stay safe 🇯🇲🙏🏻
Nice coverage, thank you. The gullies should stay clean, what a shame. Stay safe. 😊
Jamaica had a super bloom of sea grass this year. That combined with the reefs prevented the hurricane surf from being way worse. This island is as resilient as it's people. 1❤
I noticed your accent is changing with a little Jamaican flavor 😊
I was 6, and like 9/11/2001, I remember 9/12/1988 with Gilbert like yesterday. It’s a blessing to have survived both almost on the anniversary of the other.
Stay safe! 🇯🇲👊
Thank you so much to keep us internet loop. But please stay safe and be careful. O e love❤🇯🇲
Stay safe and pray.. Good bless you Irie... Looking forward to the update.. 🙏🏿🙏🏿
We are fine down Ochi Rios, Giving Thanks 🙏🏿🙏🏿
Thinking of you all, best wishes
You guys stay safe as best you can ., watching from the 🇧🇸🙏
No lady, what makes Gilbert dangerous was that we were not prepared, that was the 1st hurricane for most of us
We Never took Gilbert it seriously. Yes it was devastating. Pressure cannot be ahead of wind speed. Energy is directly proportional to the square of the speed (velocity). Physics.
Because we didn't have tracking systems like now and worst of all it came at night
@@Tequilahahadi-ct7yz Gilbert came in the day, the whole day, started from about 10 O’clock
Thank you for the update u r doing a great job, in the US and i'm praying for Jamaica 🇯🇲 and other islands 🙏🙏🙏
The Blue Mountain range is shielding Kingston from the winds
Thanks for this update Irie.
Always enjoy your videos, and learn so much from them.
I'm pretty sure that Gilbert hit us as a category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 130 mph and as it moved across the island it dropped to a category 3 with sustained winds of 125 mph
Thanks for the update Irina! Stay safe!
The calm before the storm. I pray that it skips Jamaica in Jesus name Amen. 🇯🇲🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏💕💕💕💕💕❤️
Hi Ire, They would use the animals reaction for example the fowls in country would normally use the trees for house during the nights, however, during a hurricane they don’t use the trees.
Thank you for this update Irie😊
Be so safe, and thank you for updates!
Stay safe you your family and all Jamaicans Blessings
Its the calm.before the storm. Those vendors are crazy! Crazy!

Thanks so much for this update!!
Stay safe please. We love you ❤❤❤
Real reporter 👏🏽👏🏽❤🙏🏽stay safe
Gilbert middled Jamaica.. the eye went over the country and basically down the length of it.. . I remember the fully loaded breadfruit tree next door dropped in my neighbors pool...by the time we all got to help Tons of rotted breadfruit...
Hit us at Category 3 and left at Cat 5.....
Beryl's eye seems to have kept off the coast...so that is also a big difference.
Praying that all went well and no major destruction or loss of lives. 🙏🙏🇯🇲🙏🙏🇯🇲🙏🙏
Thanks for the update. Stay safe ❤
Stay safe everyone thats in the path of this from the uk
Thank for the video ❤
That's why I have been trying to explain to people. Pay attention to the pressure. The lower the more serious it will be. The order has been for the top five: Wilma in 2005 (882 mb), Gilbert in 1988 (888 mb), then Labour Day hurricane in 1935 (892 mb), Rita in 2005 (895 mb) and Allen in 1980 (899 mb).
What about Hurricane Michael?
Speed and how large the system is are more important. In fact, Energy is directly proportional to the square of the speed (velocity). That's Physics.
@@eddietee6305Why do you think those who monitor the weather use pressure rather than wind speed to indicate the strength of a hurricane? The wind speed of a cyclone is related to the pressure. The lower the pressure the stronger the winds. The size of the system just indicate the area covered.
@@IBumpg I'm not talking about size. I'm talking about SCIENCE. There is nothing in the books that said the lower the pressure of a cyclone system the more it's devastating.
Yes the pressure does play a part but not as significant as you making it out to be. So assume you have winds at 100mph @ 980mb and another system at 155mph @ 900mb. According to your logic the former is more dangerous - not so. The low pressure accounts for organization of the eyewall and the overall growth in size of the system.
Prayers 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you Irina, I'm keeping tuned on two phones. Stay safe...that comes first. 🙏
Thank you for keeping us updated on conditions. It’s amazing that all the people that use Jamaica to make a living on UA-cam, are so quiet at this time. Stay safe. Blessings
Preach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I experience Gilbert. I was living in port more and in the afternoon, the sky was bright and suddenly it was a disaster. Please people listen to the authorities..
Praying for Jamaica 🇯🇲 ❤
We are having alot of rain in the red hills area
Please be safe. We are watching
Well, in portmore. A lot of breeze and everyrain in portmore
good luck guys.
Gilbert was a Blessing for me it Blew me straight into the school department ❤
lmao
Awww, Trust Irina to be out and about with updates. We can always rely on Irina...bless ❤
Please go inside - the hurricanes come an suddenly and the calm before the storm and the calm in the eye of the storm are really deceptive. After the calm passes the wind comes on very suddenly and often without much warning.
2 PM, just some light showers in the Liguanea area
Then the winds started to kick in 10 minutes after 💀
Appreciate your videos!
