The panels exist because of noise reduction related to the town Rust. This is normally the part where most of the guests scream and Europapark made an agreement with Rust to install these panels and close the Q-Line for Silverstar at 8pm if the park is open later than 8pm.
And if you look up older onrides, you can still see the version without the panels (and without the additional mid trim brake that wasn't functional during the first months or at least off when I rode during its premiere - at least as far as I remember).
Scott Edward Wodan is great fun. The fly through of the station is a great moment. I lived in Germany for four years and made several trips to Europa Park. I’m still amazed Disney hasn’t tried to sue the pants off the park. Some of the theming and attractions are blatant rip offs of Magic Kingdom and Epcot.
@@BruinPhD2009 The funny thing about that is that Disney bought a coaster from Mack Rides a few years ago (Slinky Dog Dash). Europa-Park probably does those Disney things better than Disney themselves, but I need to go there to see for myself.
In the USA, people and companies sue easily, but Disney hasn't got a leg to stand on, not only did Walt Disney rip off many Brothers Grimm stories, but do i have to mention Schloss Neuschwanstein...
The Europa Park has linke almost every major park in Germany the problem that it started as a tiny fairy-tail park next to a town/village. Those parks do all have major noise problems and are nearly almost in a fight with the local residents. That’s the reason why silver star needs these walls. Same goes also for the walls surrounding Taron in Phantasia Land. If you look closely onto the maps of those to parks you’ll notice that all major outdoor activities are based at one sind of the park. Germany has very strict restrictions on noise and has that problem of parks that started small and grew to a never imagined size in a short time. Oh yeah, that’s also the reason why mystery castle is an indoor drop tower... Have a good one! Chris
Totally agree with the review. I also love when, at the lifthill, you rise above the trees and see the beautiful flat landscape with hills in the far background while gaining altitude. And the drop was fun too.
1:26 "gives you a great view of the parking lot" i don't know if this was supposed to be sarcastic or funny but it definitely gave me a laugh a beautiful park and they give you a view of the parking
Much agreed, I thought Silver Star was kinda lame when I rode it. The drop off the midcourse in the back though, is definitely the redeeming moment for me :)
The thing with B&M hyper coasters is that they are really expansive and large so only major parks have them. That makes it that regular visitors who only ever ride one of them. And in that case a hyper blows other ride experiences out of the park even if Silver Star isn't the prime example of what a hyper can be.
nope, thought wodan there was a way better coaster, and although the launch on blue fire isnt really forceful and the layout is weird, I think bf is also better than silver star from a fun perspective
In my opinion Silver Star really shines in the winter. Because thats when the trims are almost completely turned off. It gives fantastic airtime (even ejector) during that time and its my favourite ride in the Park by far. Although I think its glossy smooth. I havent noticed a rattle at all
I didn't feel it until I heard people say that there was a rattle. You can especially feel it at the bottom of the first drop and at the turnaround. But it still isn't rough by any means. Especially compared to the other coasters in the park.
I've ridden it in 2016 and it was the roughest coaster in the park for me (haven't ridden Eurosat end Euromir though). It just had these big jolts to it, especially in the first two valleys
I've ridden SilverStar on the year it opened in summer, at that time the ride was butter smooth so I would guess your rattling feeling is probably due to ageing ? EuropaPark does run some seriously intense operations. When I rode it the trim breaks were so aggressive you had to sit in the very last row to get any airtime at all, they may have eased up a little on them.
A coaster that arguably mostly survives due to lack of competition. In Germany, there are only two other "giant" coasters: EGF at Holiday Park, easily the better ride but also a much more intense beast Colossos at Heide Park, which is a) a woody and b) at the other side of the country
Now I’d love a B&M hyper coaster ranking from Taylor! I’ve only ridden Mako, but it’s my definite #1 coaster out of the 72 I’ve ridden, and I’d be really intrigued to see how it compares to some of the others! Rode Hyperion which is slightly taller with a stealer drop last year and that was a solid gut punch & much much more intense and enjoyable
Nice to see a video. Interesting to see one of the few non Mack rides at Europa park. As well as the Mercedes F1 theme(I’m an F1 fan) Love the video. Keep Up The Great Work and Stay Safe
As a fan of EP; I fully agree with your assessment. Silver Star is a crowd pleaser, it looks scary because of it's size, but actually doesn't do that much, but for the GP, the size and the big drop are usually all that counts. Why wasn't Silver Star built by Mack Rides you ask? It was the 2000's. Mack Rides was building Wild Mice and Family coasters. Only. And the company was struggling financially, because bigger and more intense rides were demanded by parks and park goers. And they experienced that first hand when they realized that Europa-Park needed a big ride, and Mack Rides had absolutely no expertise or capabilities to manufacture that. That's why they needed to get it from B&M. But it also was a wake-up call for Mack Rides. They realized that the company would be doomed if they just kept going. In the following years, they started to reorganize the whole company, and Michael Mack was a driving force in it. The company was in bad shape, and while the older members of the company insisted on keeping everything in their hands, Michael convinced them to get help. It was a really tough move for everyone involved and all the employees, but as we know today, putting the company in the hands of Christian von Elverfeldt was a great decision. Together with Macks, he managed to stabilize the company's finances and to slim down and modernize many structures. This allowed the company to enter a new chapter: The development of Blue Fire. Before this point, they really only had family rides, and some of them even were pretty bumpy (Look at Poseidon). It was a huge project to develop a whole new track and train system that was so far ahead of anything Mack Rides ever built. But all involving parties did their best and the Macks and all engineers at Mack Rides put all their knowledge and engineering skills into it. And that's how Mack Rides became the great company we know today. While Silver Star is a great ride for Europa-Park, it was a warning for Mack Rides. A warning they took very seriously, and it is astonishing how far the company got in just less than a decade. If they were to built a Hyper Coaster today, I'm sure Mack Rides would build it. But back then, that wasn't even an option. And why was Wodan built by GCI? Because Mack Rides doesn't build Wooden Coasters, that's a pretty simple answer ;)
This is the only coaster I’ve ever ridden where after a couple of rides I was looking forward to the mcbr! And it’s definitely a back row coaster, even though there’s a long, separate queue for the front. And I’m just amazed that yesterday someone asked if you were ever going to do a Silver Star review. 😳 You just answered, “Yes.”
You do have a valid point Taylor, the ride does have a rattle. However, when I rode this last December the trims were completely off. It was insane! This is my first and only B and M hyper but for me this ride is something special. You are free to agree or disagree
This is the ride that sparked my interest in coasters and theme parks ever since I saw in a TV documentary when I was a kid. A couple of years later I was finally tall enough to ride it and it was mind blowing to me at the time. Though I can definitely see the ride‘s shortcomings when comparing it to newer B&M Hypers like Shambhala and Fury, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Silver Star. With the silver and black color scheme, amazing looking trains as well as the fact that you can walk underneath basically the entire thing, this also has to be one of the most beautiful roller coasters ever created.
Europa Park is my homepark and home of the only B&M Hyper i've ridden yet. For me the unsmoothness kinda adds up to a feeling of brutal Speed. But I really need to get to more :D
I wrote it in Dec. 2019 and could not feel any rattle. It gave me nice flowter airtime. I liked it a lot. The trimms are as bad as on any other B&M Hyper.
It's really awesome, Rust is a really really small village in South Germany Baden-Württemberg. And millions of people are traveling every single year to this town to enjoy the spirit of Europapark. My hometown is at less 20 minutes ago from Rust and I went often to the village without visiting Europapark, going to friends or something.
Silver Star was probably the biggest dissapointment on behalf of larger rollercoasters, and definatly while beïng in Europa-Park. It’s not “B&M smooth” at all and although it does have the stats, it’s far from that thrilling while you actually ride it. Given it to also be one of the least themed rides at Europa-Park, it indeed underperforms. I DID read comments about it beïng slightly to quite a bit better in the Winter, and i can confirm it is. Weird enough, the rattle is quite less during winter opening and they do indeed slow it down way less then they do in summer season, which does make it feel more powerfull (definatly in terms of airtime), but overal i honestly don’t care that much either for Silver Star in a park like Europa-Park. It’s fun for a ride or 1 maybe 2 but that’s it.
I´ve ridden Silver Star and I really liked it. At the moment it´s my only B&M I have ridden. Yes I noticed the rattle too, but it wasn´t that bad. The trims over the airtime hills too. I think the GP isn´t noticing the Trims that much. I think it´s a great ride.
1:40 It's to reduce noise. Europa Park is close to a village called Rust and they have many problems with the local people there. When Silver Star was opened in 2002 it didn't have this panels and it was really noisy, although the track is filled with sand.
I mostly agree with your review but I have to give Silver Star some credit. It was the ride that made me an enthusiast. When I first rode Silver Star back in 2012, it completely blew me away. I had never experienced anything on this scale before. It was by far the tallest, the fastest, the longest ride I had been on up to that point. And it flipped a switch in my head. It lead me down the rabbit hole of being a coaster enthusiast 8 years ago. Riding it again in 2017 was a bit underwhelming, though. It was still fun but I had ridden several hundred more coasters by that time and was a bit more experienced. The rattle was particularly noticable. It's nowhere near my Top 30 today. But it does hold a special place in my heart, because without Silver Star, I don't know if I'd be here today.
I am going to Europa Park next week, Tuesday and Wednesday.... Going to be riding this of course.... Probably.... I think this is going to be the star of my coaster enthusiast journey lol.... my first ever hyper coaster, can't wait.
Ridden Hulk and Rip Ride Rockit a couple months ago in Universal, Florida. My first ever mid-big coasters. They seemed pretty tame and relaxing overall. Can't wait for next week to try some real ones in Europa Park....
I loved Silver Star when I first ride it in 2016 and remember no issues at all with rattle. I know it's regularly seen by enthusiasts as lower down the rankings as far as hypers are concerned, but when all I've personally got to compare it to is the Big One, Hollywood Dream and Thunder Dolphin, it still blew me away. Christ we need more Hypers in Europe!
Expectations weren’t too high after hearing it was one of the weaker Hypers but I actually loved this ride, especially with a loose restraint on the back row
Funnily enough, during the Winter Season, Silver Star runs way better because they have 'Winter Tires' which run way faster than the normal ones. And I notice that both the trim breaks and the mid course break don't run in winter for some reason.
Is there a chance that you could include the height, drop and so on in metres aswell? Your videos are watched around the globe and nobody but the USA uses the imperial system.
The panels are the to block the noise/ screams from the ride so that the nearby houses don't have a lot of noise that's also why Silverstar always closes at 8pm. (Fun fact there are also some people in rust who want the closure of europapark or very limited opening times due the noise the park makes and I definitely don't and can't understand that)
Yesterday, I was at Europa Park for the first time. First ride on Silver Star was front row and I didn’t really like it that much, but later in the day, I got backrow. Boi that coaster actually amazed me
Does this mean we'll get a Wodan review too? I hear mixed things about it but it's certainly really well themed, hope to hear your thoughts on it soon.
Silver Star is one of the most underwhelming rides I have ever ridden. Compared to many smaller Coaster the airtime isn't great, it is kinda just there, when I last rode it in 2017 the Trims where trimming all potential fun out of it and the entire ride kinda feels meehhh overall.
Silver star was my first coaster which was supposed to have airtime (since then I have rode shambhala) but I felt nothing on it and it make me really disappointed because I thought airtime would feel different but in silver star there was nothing. The difference between this and shambhala was night and day
I think you've ridden so many B&M hypercoasters that you aren't able to appreciate them the way they deserve. If there were only two in the entire world I think you'd rank them very highly. I agree with Theme Park Crazy: you can't go wrong with a B&M hypercoaster.
But you also cant go insane with a B&M Hyper....be honest. There is close to no B&M Hyper that is really intense. Fury might be the best, but its still not the most intense coaster, not even close. Intamin is the way to go. There you really cant do anything wrong and its a guarantee for intensity and quality.
Regardless of what you think of the actual ride itself, the operations are top-notch excellent! You can go to Europa Park in peak season and you will not wait more than 30-45mins to get on Silver Star.
Part of the reason that Silver Star is a B&M hyper is because Mack rides wasn't at a point where they could build something like DC Rivals as at 2002 their biggest coasters were the bobsleigh coasters. Apparently during a tour of the ride (heard from Coaster-Net Uncut) someone said that today they'd build Silver Star themselves. Unlike Wodan (as Mack hasn't built any wood coasters), this is something that they could easily do today.
I figured that was likely the reason. It would've been awesome to have a DC Rivals at Europa Park. Who knows, maybe there's still the possibility for it in the future!
I agree with your thoughts, altough I personally found it a very good ride but it was only the first b&m I ever rode. I'm from belgium and we don't have really impressive coasters over here so Silver Star was probably one of the better rides I ever rode 😂
1:40 walls are there because residents of rust complained about noise from the screaming people. Sound dampening. Simple On the right because the village of Rust is right next to the park
I agree 100% with you. Its a pretty boring ride, but that is what Eurpapark wants. They want everything to be for families. That barrier on the side of the first drop is due to noise. It was not there when the ride opened, it was added several years after that.
I made the mistake of riding Shambhala before Silver Star. Silver Star just didn't do it for me. As you said, Wodan is by far the better ride to spend your queue time on.
I completely agree that the airtime is super underwhelming on this rollercoaster, but it doesn't help that the only other B&M Hyper I remember is Shambala which gives god like airtime (i've technically ridden Nitro but I was way to young to remember it plus el toro is in the same park). The S bend at the end is pretty amazing though
My problem with Silver Star is that it runs inconsistently. In my most recent visit, I rode it twice. The first was in the morning and it was running flawlessly- abnormally smooth and trimless, wich provided crazy ejector airtime on the small hills. The second time was before closing and the airtime wasn't very good and it was one of the roughest B&M coasters ever. In general its a great ride but it is not very smooth and ride experience is unpredictable sometimes. Interestingly, I found it rougher in the front than in the back.
Also don’t forget this park in general is for smaller people. I weigh 230 6’2 and I barely fit on this ride. Was a but embarrassed when I needed the operators help stapling me to the ride.
This is not intense and it also doesnt have a lot airtime. The only people who really like that coaster are clueless visitors, who never ride anything else.
For me i had 0 rattle when I rode it (end of season). Also I personally haven't really experienced that big of forces on the helix strangely enough. Besides that I can agree that besides the drop after the midcourse brakerun its kind of forceless and doesn't do a lot.
Yes, there surely are hypers that are way more intense than silver star. Anyway, it fits the park perfectly and its focus on families. For many people silver star will be the only hyper they ride, so their score could be easily higher :P
I visited Europapark 3 times. on each day i would give it a different rating. I once rode this when it was about 5 degrees celcius and i would have given it a 5 out of 10. Then i rode it in the summer and i would rate it 7 out of 10. Its certainly not one of the best rides in europe but when the sun is shining and you want a breeze of wind, this is a nice coaster.
I can't compare this coaster to other B&M hypers yet, but I'd overall agree with your review. I've never noticed a rattle (might be lack of experience) and I personally hate the "theming", but I dislike sponsorships in general. Overall in the park it's not in my top 3 rides there, but it still is a solid and fun ride, so I'd agree with 5/10 or 6/10
The panels exist because of noise reduction related to the town Rust. This is normally the part where most of the guests scream and Europapark made an agreement with Rust to install these panels and close the Q-Line for Silverstar at 8pm if the park is open later than 8pm.

The barrier is there to lower the noise reaching the people living in Rust.
I wish Thorpe Park has a B&M hyper
Expectations weren’t too high after hearing it was one of the weaker Hypers but I actually loved this ride, especially with a loose restraint on the back row
it's great that they don't staple at EP
Perfect score for the ride!
That structure at the lift hill is actually a sound barricade build there because of the surrounding areas
The Pannel is indeed a sound barrier. It doesn't only face the park, but also the village in which the park is more or less located in.
2:40 Diamondback at Kings Island kind of banks out from the first drop, too.
Silverstar is still my fav. coaster at Europa Park, Wodan is second
Funnily enough, during the Winter Season, Silver Star runs way better because they have 'Winter Tires' which run way faster than the normal ones. And I notice that both the trim breaks and the mid course break don't run in winter for some reason.
Actually the coolest thing about this coaster is that during spring it's frequently covered in fog so you can barely see half of the ride.
(Fun fact there are also some people in rust who want the closure of europapark or very limited opening times due the noise the park makes and I definitely don't and can't understand that)
Yeah I love this ride. It was a blast for me
I totally agree with you my favorite part is also the drop off the mid corse break runn
if you look to the left on the lift hill you can actually see France and the Rhine River which is really cool.
Yesterday, I was at Europa Park for the first time. First ride on Silver Star was front row and I didn’t really like it that much, but later in the day, I got backrow. Boi that coaster actually amazed me
One of my favorite B&m hypers Next to diamondback Mako and shambala. Great video 👍👍🔥🔥👍👍🔥🔥
Does this mean we'll get a Wodan review too? I hear mixed things about it but it's certainly really well themed, hope to hear your thoughts on it soon.
Hey guys... look at the angle of descent I’m sorry
😒
Nice uwu
Nice.
Nice.
Nice.
Silver Star is one of the most underwhelming rides I have ever ridden. Compared to many smaller Coaster the airtime isn't great, it is kinda just there, when I last rode it in 2017 the Trims where trimming all potential fun out of it and the entire ride kinda feels meehhh overall.
Maybe it‘s just me but I love the end run with the S- curve 😂😎
B&M will definitely make more Hypers and Giga their newer ones are smooth and amazing
Because of the height of the ride they had to put sound barriers on the drop because if you look rust is very close to the park
I agree with your thoughts, altough I personally found it a very good ride but it was only the first b&m I ever rode. I'm from belgium and we don't have really impressive coasters over here so Silver Star was probably one of the better rides I ever rode 😂
Hold your horses, we're getting a super intamin in brussels !
This is soooo true 💖
Nice video 💖
Apollo's Chariot at the bottom of the list? It is my favorite B&M hyper I have been on. I think the airtime in the back row is amazing!
B&M Hypers are amazing and sometimes unique rides
This is my first (And only) B&M Hyper I've ridden. You can see this thing from 2 highway exits.
1:40 walls are there because residents of rust complained about noise from the screaming people.
Sound dampening. Simple
On the right because the village of Rust is right next to the park
I love when you get a lot ride in the coaster
I agree 100% with you. Its a pretty boring ride, but that is what Eurpapark wants. They want everything to be for families. That barrier on the side of the first drop is due to noise. It was not there when the ride opened, it was added several years after that.
When I wars on Europa park I didn’t have the opportunity to ride silver star because I was too young and too short. But I loved Bluefire!
If wodans ur fav, u should do a review of it. I rode it too and in my opinion it’s one of the stronger GCIs
I'd love to see a Wodan review :)
Je l'ai fait avec mes ami et quand c'était finis j'ai regardé autour de moi et puis j'ai pleuré 😂plus jamais je oublierai ce moment 😀😀😀
i only noticed the rattle between the drop and first hill but that maybe is because of the adrenaline the ride gave me
My first Hyper Coaster 😅
Haha Apollo's Chariot is my favorite B&M Hyper! Guess there must be much better ones than DiamondBack and ApolloChariot
I made the mistake of riding Shambhala before Silver Star.
Silver Star just didn't do it for me. As you said, Wodan is by far the better ride to spend your queue time on.
Yeahhh. Let's see how u liked it or not , guess not that much :)
I rode it once in 2018 , for me as gp it was a scary ride .
Can u do the coaster fights and Park fights like u used to do? I actually enjoyed those.
recently they added some theming on the ride, just before the lift hill
The dollar store keyboards on the side xddd
May you please do an updated version review for cedar point)
I like intensity over airtime, so i think ill love this
B&M Hypers are not intense though.
This is not intense and it also doesnt have a lot airtime. The only people who really like that coaster are clueless visitors, who never ride anything else.
B&M restraints are the best. So comfortable.
What about buzz bars?
This ride is pretty old and most hyper trains had 9 rows back then lol. Can we get a B&M hyper ranking? It's defiantly missing a few elements imo
Do you prefer blue fire to this? Or this to blue fire?
Was this the video you were editing on the side of the road?
Yes haha
@@CoasterStudios thought so 😂
It’s weird hearing your voice after watching your video of getting your wisdom teeth pulled.
For my this ride is awesome
For me i had 0 rattle when I rode it (end of season).
Also I personally haven't really experienced that big of forces on the helix strangely enough.
Besides that I can agree that besides the drop after the midcourse brakerun its kind of forceless and doesn't do a lot.
Diamondback is my favorite b&m hyper
Oh yes the rattle, BAD
The 2nd half, oh yes.
Especially at the point after the drop where it banks. That's always where I notice the rattle the most. And also at the turn.
Katun Review?
Yes, there surely are hypers that are way more intense than silver star. Anyway, it fits the park perfectly and its focus on families. For many people silver star will be the only hyper they ride, so their score could be easily higher :P
The one time I rode Silver Star, I think the trims on the hills were off because I got great airtime in both the first and second half
Overall in the park it's not in my top 3 rides there, but it still is a solid and fun ride, so I'd agree with 5/10 or 6/10
Hey Taylor.... Big fan.. You should do a "Top 10 Best themed rollercoasters" (unless you already have and I missed it lol)
