Silver Star was my first experience with floater airtime and I did not come away disappointed. I first rode it during the park's winter event and so because of the conditions, all the trims and the mid-course were turned off. Great review and you're right about the staff not pushing down much on the lapbars
It's always a surprise what you get from Silver Star. I've got some really really good rides and then I got some really bad rides with almost no airtime at all on the next day
Although I rarely get good rides I totally agree that it is a mixed bag. I just hope that the other Hypers which I have not ridden yet are more consistent.
My last visit i had even on the same day rides from ok to superb, i´ve found the chances for trimless rides are really high when it´s a bit windy. Also to mention even thou the ride OPs send trains out like crazy they never stapled me through 12 rides i was there last time.
I've been on Silver Star quite a lot actually.. In fact, I've been on it shortly after it opened, like a few weeks after opening or so.. Before they put the shield on it and of course before the brake update etc.. All I can say is that I was initially "disappointed" in the ride, probably because I took Expedition GeForce as benchmark.. And let's be honest here, if you are looking for thrills, it's not even close. But that was back then, when you didn't have the internet as you do now. I didn't know (and didn't care, I was like 13 years old at the time) about the different concepts of different companies etc.. I just thought "it's bigger, it's faster, it must be more extreme and forceful". The trims really killed it.. I had some rides where I got pretty much no airtime at all and was thrown forward in my seat hitting the trims.. But lately I agree that there seems to be no trims or very little.. At least the last 2 visits I was there. Because of that, today I really enjoy Silver Star (IF the trims don't hit too hard) for what it is. Altough it did get quite a bit rougher over time.. Still smooth of course, but not as smooth as it used to be. I like Europa Park, it's one of the best parks imo, but I do miss a real banger coaster. They are all solid, but also all very "family friendly" and I do know that's intended, so I can live with that. Still I can dream about the upcoming one being like a longer, bigger Lost Gravity.. At the moment I like Wodan most and followed by a tied Silver Star / Blue Fire.. Altough I must admit the "new" Eurosat is pretty nice too...
Trivia: Silver Star was designed by Mack Rides, but built by B&M. They handed their plans over to B&M, because at that time, Mack wasn't able to build a hyper coaster on their own.
@@CanobieCoaster Unfortunately it seems to get worse - there is some serious rattle now on all of the first three valleys. However, after I have ridden a dozen other B&Ms now, I agree with your assessment that the final part of Silverstar is outstanding for this type of coaster.
It was nice to see the Football pitches at 5:11 , they hosted a Football tournament in Rust back when i was a child, which our club attended from 2005 to 2008, we actually won in 2006. from my experience, Silver Star was a bit underwhelming in all of my rides until 2016, since the trims and the midcourse denied any airtime, but since 2017 the trims never hit and the ride was as glorious as you described it in this review.
@@CanobieCoaster I just got some rerides a few weeks ago, and it was better than ever. Phenomenal operations (10 minute wait on a crowded day), trims and the midcourse never slowed the train down, lots of space and the lap bar didn’t thighten during the ride, and the airtime was insane, I was out of my seat for a solid five seconds on the first camelback. Silver star shot up my rankings, surpassing expedition GeForce and is my new number two behind Kärnan!
europapark is my home park. So I know Silver Star very well. This one has very pleasant and long floatings in the first part, and powerful airtimes in the second part. An excellent coaster in my opinion!
I experienced silver star with quite strong and really sustained floater airtimes in the back raw in 2017. Even if they are not ejectors, flying out of your seat during for serveral seconds over these large airtime hills is better (in my opinion) than stronger but quick pop of airtimes you can find on some of the RMC and intamin roller coaster. However, during my rides in 2019 and 2021, it wasn't running as fast and I prefered it in the front raw. Something really cool about Europa Park is that their top 3 (blue fire, Silver Star, Wodan) is never perfect. Everytime I ride them, one of them (depending on the visit) feels weaker, but the other two will usually not be desappointing. I would say that EP does not have a star attraction but instead 3 of them that complete each other very well.
Canymonium has the best contouring; Shambala has the best height and speed, but Silver Star has the most consistency of forces thought the entire ride the B&M hypers with drops between 200' and under 200'. Loved the video, thanks for posting!
This is the only B&M Hyper I've ridden, but I must say I don't really know why it gets so much hate. I'd imagine the first drop isn't as great as some of the others, but after that the airtime is pretty sustained. I don't think the trims were having any effect when I rode it last year, either.
I first rode it in 2021 and it was so supringsingly good, I've heard so many times that it would be trimmend to death or that it barely has any airtime, but the airtime in the second half was amzing. The Airtime in the first half was also good but not that exiting, but it's the only B&M hyper I've ridden so far, so I think if other B&M hypers big hills don't give stronger airtime than the big ones on Silver Star, than I will defently like Silver Star more, the second half is so good. The first half is also good, the trimms didn't really hit on my visits but the 2nd half is wehre Silver Star shines🙌🏼
Great review. There were so many reviews many years ago about how this ride had 'no airtime' and 'no force' - it's certainly not the case now. Actually, it's poor reputation historically amongst coaster enthusiasts means nobody goes in with high expectations - and actually? It tends to shatter them.
Visited in september 2019. The first ride was great, as it was the tallest and fastest coaster I had been on, making it an experience on its own. Didn't really pay attention to the airtime at all. However, the rest of the 4 rides I got only offered weak floater, and everything between the first drop and the midcourse were pretty boring to be honest. Thankfully the ending was still fun. #3 or 4 in the park for me.
I definitely feel the same about Silver Star. It seems to be one of them love or hate hypers similar to Nitro. Imo, it's one of the most intense B&Ms I have ridden and I even like it better than Shambhala, which I find too smooth/forceless for my liking, despite Shambhala having superior airtime, but I never been as much of an airtime addict as many lol
Wow did not realize it was on par with Mano and Candymonium. Walibi Belgium is 5hrs away from Europa Park. Are you planning to go there and ride Kondaa? It looks like a top 10 coaster imo
This ride has a kinda bad reputation that I don't reallty understand, on my last ride on november 2021 the ride was strongly trimmed on the mid course break, so I didn't feel the airtime after the helix, but the three first camelbacks were insane ! In my opinion the best seat was the middle one, because I got more sustained airtime than in the front or the back. And as a F1 fan, I really can say that seeing in the queue a Mercedes F1 that won the World Championship from this close is really impressive
I haven't been to the European continent, so Mako & Candymonium are my 2 favorites. It sounds like those are your favorites excluding Europe, so I need to get on Shambhala & Silver Star someday.
Great video review! Heads up a “Helix” is 360 degrees or more. If it is less than that you can call it a spiral or a Carousel Turn. Also Black, the track looks Graphite color (medium gray)? So basically Nitro but with some improvements? 😜
I loved this way more than Shambhala. Despite what so many reviews have said, I found the airtime on Silver Star way more intense and aggressive. I do prefer the first drop on Shambhala and the colour scheme though.
Silerstar is a strange roller coaster. Some days you get a great ride as you described and other days it's completely lame with barely any airtime. I don't know what it is, maybe the temperature or the wind or different technicians setting the trim brakes differently. The latter is definitely an issue. Sometimes the train is braked really hard and sometimes you hardly notice anything from the brakes. I could imagine that it also has something to do with the day of the week. Europe Park defines itself as a family park. Maybe they'll run Silverstar a little faster during the weekdays and slow it down on the weekends because those are the days when families come with their kids. What day of the week did you go to the park?
It has potential but runs inconsistent. One day I visited the park I rode it once in the morning and once at closing time. In the morning it was absolutely hauling through the layout with the trims completely off, resulting in airtime just as insane as on an RMC hybrid! When I rode it at the end of the day it was barely making it over each hill, and it was the roughest ride I have gotten on any B&M (and that's saying a lot considering I have been on Vortex at Carowinds). I have never had experiences this inconsistent on any other coaster. If it constantly runs smooth and without trims, then Silver Star would be in the number 3 spot for best hypers in the world.
I LOVE the snappy curves at the end and wished it had more of them ! The second half is great , more forceful than the first half of the ride. It’s a real family-coaster…
I would agree with this review if we were talking during the Winter seasons. At Europapark all major rides operate during the winter season (since 2017 also Silver Star) and not only do they turn off all trims most of the time, they also put winter wheels on every ride which makes a huuuuge difference. You get literal ejector on Silver Star and boy dont get me started on Wodan. This change in Wheels makes the top 3 at Europapark actually thrill coasters. For one thats good but on the other hand it spoils me for the summer season since I almost dont wanna go then.. other than that Silver Star is just meh. It can have its moments but you are very reliant on the weather and also the trims. If you get very unlucky you will have a very underwhelming ride on Silver Star. But other than that I can only recommend you going at winter since its a huge lvl up compared to any other season.
Yeah it is true that they reduced the trims heavily over the years. But winter wheels are a completely different ball game. For those alone I would recommend goin in the winter. Not to mention the gorgeous decoration and theming during that time. Best theme park in the world no matter the season! :D
