I met Jack when I was working at a restaurant in the mid 70’s. He wanted his fish grilled a certain way, and salad with oil and vinegar dressing on the side, along with vegies. I remember that he had a standing challenge to anyone in the world to be able to follow him through a work out, can’t remember what the prize was if they steyed with him but no one ever did. It was said that where he beat them was doing countless hanging leg raises over his head. Just rep after rep after rep! Was truly an inspiration to me and I got his signature in a few training advice tips!

Some of you old timers, like me, might recall that, for his 65th birthday, Jack pulled a tugboat through San Francisco harbor, I believe, with a rope in his teeth, for one full mile. Yep, unbelievable!

On his 70th birthday he pulled 70 boats carrying 70 passengers each from the Sydney coast to the Great Barrier Reef (1.5 miles) while handcuffed and shackled. He pulled them by a rope in his mouth... All these people going crazy over Arnold Schwarzenegger and I'm just here going "train insane like Jack Lalanne!"

What Vince Gironda was to the education of the bodybuilder, Jack LaLanne was to the broader public at large: schooling the uninitiated in the ways of physical excellence. I still remember when his show was on TV. He was god-like! perhaps his greatest "feat" --as impressive as his pulling boats through the San Francisco Bay into his mid-60s!--was his incredible longevity and the remarkable shape and condition he maintained to the age of 95, exercising 2 hours every morning, according to Jack. really he was a hybrid of bronze and silver-eras physique culture icon--the greatest of them all!

He was the first actual fitness trainer (arguably). And of course the Jumping Jack was invented by him and named for him. His wife said he trained people for almost 80 years (beginning in the early 1930s). He invented about 30 unique types of exercises/isometric resistance techniques, and about 12 types of gym exercise machines or attachments (most of which are still used today in one form or another, -of course modernized); Designed and invented electric juicers. Just revisiting this guy after many years. Used to watch him as a kid. Thanks for posting. "Exercise is King, Nutrition is Queen" - JLL

a front lever pull up is where you hang from a bar you never bend your arms and you pivot your body forward at the shoulder until your body is horizontal with the ground and your arms are straight it's a gymnastic move it's popular as part of a calisthenics type of workout guys do it by holding that position for a few seconds the fact that he could do 10 reps after doing all that other work especially the bent over rows is incredible feat of strength you've actually shown other Golden Era bodybuilders doing it in photos from your past videos you're doing an awesome job keep up the great work love your Channel

There were 2 real heroes for me. First was Steve Reeves followed by Jack LaLanne. Steve was first because I wanted a back like his(Lats). He was a bodybuilder and I wanted a physique like his. Jack was a "strong man". It was his incredible feats such as swimming from AlCatraz while handcuffed and towing several row boats filled with people in them that impressed me. I still remember seeing that in one of those "short reel" features before the main movie in the movie theater. Arnold was a distant 3rd tied with Franco Columbo.
