Jack didn’t have to die at 96. He had heart valve surgery at 95 and instead of resting to recover he started his usual work out routine. Then his lungs starting filling up with fluid which caused him to go back and forth to the hospital for draining. He hated hospitals. After a year of that he was ready to go.

He was my hero. I met him when he was 78, and I couldn't believe how solid he was. It was like shaking hands with a 2x4. After heart valve surgery at 95 he slowed a little, and you could see his decline a bit in this video, but he was still working out and I thought for certain he'd live to be well over 100. Had he not gotten the flu, or actively treated it when he did, I'm sure he would have easily passed the century mark.

Absolutely. The best tip you can follow to be happy in life: Eat and drink healthy as possible, keep at a good weight range for your body, and exercise regularly everyday or nearly everyday. Doesn't matter if you are black, white, yellow, red, rich, poor, man, woman, young, old,... Eat and drink healthy as possible, keep at a good weight range for your body, and exercise regularly everyday or nearly everyday. Gives you the best chance at being happy in life. In reality when in comes down to what really matters, your mind and body are your life. Exercise regularly, eat (and drink) well you will get to and keep at a good weight range for your body and look and feel great. Be happy in life.

Millions of people like this in USA now. The rest.of the world basically same thing.

Have a world where over 90 percent of people grow up and stay in good shape. We would save billions of dollars on health care and our lives would be way happier, way better.

It's not about being a health nut, it's about not letting your body rot. It takes very little effort to be healthy, because your body is meant to be healthy, not sick. Just listen to it. Maybe you are young and your body has not started yet to fall apart because of neglect. I used to be careless, too, until age caught up with me. Still, I couldn't believe how quickly I recovered when I took care of things. Have fun.

When I was a kid my grandmother made me eat oatmeal with raisins and with a touch of cinnamon. She would eat hard boiled eggs and took out the yellow part and put lettuce and tomatoes on white or whole wheat bread. Then she would boil all of the meats. She would also prunes. I have a juicer that I juice carrots, celery, cucumbers, beats, ginger, unions and garlic. I haven’t had a cold or the flu in 2 years. God bless Jack Lalanne and my grandmother Katherine.

He was my very first inspiration after I'd had my first spine surgery in 1966. I was only 12 years young and obviously couldn't do all what and the exact way of doing the exercises, but did what I could (along with the wonderful guidance of my neurosurgeon).
It has served my body very well in that I am still here at the age of 70 years in this present moment.
Greatly because of Master Lalanne's instructions and his gungho encouragement, his wisdom and passion of love for every soul in this
world helped me to make it through more surgeries and physical challenges as well. I am/we are so very grateful for him, his wife, family and other supporters for every role they played in my life and also my children's lives.
    Forever grateful. Thank you.

my 85 year old dad is still lifting weights and riding his bike! He looks 50, and doctors are always amazed. He's always eating healthy and drinks lots of water. Fruits are his snacks, and he puts more veggies on his plate than the main dish. I think he's gonna out live me!

I learned something new from this: the jumping-jack was named after him. And that balancing act he does on the ladder at 0:20 is awesome. I'm very sad: if there was one person who I thought would easliy make it to 100 years, it was Jack LaLanne. RIP Mr. LaLanne.

Wow, this guy looked around 65-70 back then. He truly is the godfather of fitness R.I.P Jack LaLanne September 14,1914-January 23,2011

While all the pro bodybuilders people look up to are either dead of a heart in middle age or an old age cripple, Jack was still going strong 5 years shy of 100. Absolutely incredible. My hero.

The only real body builder that ever lived. Arnold could never even think of doing what Jack did. Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, Phil Heath... none of them will be swimming a mile and a half at 70, much less towing 70 boats and people!

it's such a shame that he refused to see the doctor for pneumonia :\ he could have still been alive today. his mind still seemed sharp in this video.

People who see the doctor whenever they’re sick usually don’t live that long. His philosophy of avoiding the doctor allowed him to live nearly 97 years, and die in his home instead of at the hospital with a bunch of tubes coming out of him.
