The thing about you Guthrie is that despite being “ a little all over the place” you are melodic genius, a great disciple and a wonderful teacher. Your efforts are globally appreciated.
I really appreciate it when you tell the theory or reason behind the notes/chords you are playing (ie 3rd to flatted 3rd or D to D7 etc) instead of just saying 2nd fret G string or A second string. The theory/thought behind the moves is what matters to me. I love your lessons Guthrie.
So much great information. Your a awesome teacher as well. Easy to understand and you slow it down but not to the point where your repeating it 1000 times. Good work sir. Keep em coming.
I had a teacher, way back in the 70's tell me that phrasing is the harmonic addition to a song's rhythm. Made sense. You showed off a little of that tonight. You're helping people build a strong foundation.
The fireplace backdrop sure beats the heck out of the wrinkled black bed sheet......LOL....just teasing bro.......great lesson........as always! Best regards from the Motor City!
Guthrie Trapp .....stick with the fireplace....it’s cool....the tone in that room is cool.....put up some candles on the mantel for a vibe and like going.....I dig your lessons....
When I picked up guitar again after a 10 year hiatus I started listening to Lightning Hopkins. Great music that was the foundation of modern blues and early country music. I love this stuff! Great vid.
Thanx GT. Back in 1964 when I first decided to play there was a local hero name of Jack Lee who played a J-50 a lot like yours in a band called the Super Egos. Just 3 guys, 2 guitars and a harpist and they were real good. This was Westport, Connecticut in a coffee house right across from our train station. Great blues lesson... & really love the way you play... cheers
As today is my birthday, I couldn’t of been happier than with a brand new Guthrie Trapp video! Got a chance last night to make use of your valuable lesson at Rob”s Irish Pub, and it was a blast! Thank you so much!
Guthrie, huge fan. Have been following you for about 9 years now. Have both your signature pedals and have wore your recordings out. Still learning stuff off the new album. I just wanted to thank you for these lessons and taking time out to give back. Means a lot and don’t take that for granted. Best wishes and hope to see you soon!
Thanks Guthrie. I follow a number of great teachers on the Tube but your's are ALWAYS my favorites. These are the right level but at the same time challenge me with new ideas and techniques. Thanks much for sharing your gifts here!
I really dig these breakdowns. It shows that Blues is truly an amazing art form. How the originators of the blues played and created such an incredible genre, blows the mind!
@@guthrietrappmusic The feel makes all the difference in the world. You can take the same turnaround...play it one way, it sounds like Robert Johnson. Play it a different way and it sounds like Zeppelin. Thanks for all you do for the community, Guthrie!
Very cool. You're right when you say it's improvised on the blues in E. I've played stuff like that for years but I never really thought about how I did it. I guess when I first learned it I was paying attention, but after that it was kind of like my fingers knew what to do, but my mind didn't. Your explanation is really helpful and now I'm going to get a guitar and play along. Glad I found your channel.
Thanks Guthrie, I already know a lot of these turnarounds but your ideas made me change it up a little or try something different. Very much appreciated! Looking forward to more of this. Cheers!!
Been watching your vids for a while and must say you have some of the best phrasing ideas out there ...and the way you time and tie your different phrases together is what sets you apart ... thanks for all the great info you generously share with us...
Thanks Guthrie, another great lesson full of really useful information. I think visualising the fretboard in this way is so helpful, you never feel lost. It's awesome to get some insight into the way you think when approaching blues turnarounds. Thanks again!
I am stunned - these licks and vocab are pure gold. I am going to use this vid to learn the delta blues on acoustic. Guthrie excellent lesson, player, and teacher!
This is a great lesson :) it realy shows that you love to play. Even if you are all over the place it still possible to go back and watch again :) i love your vids :)
Thanks again Guthrie. Another lesson, saturated with goodies.....that will take me a couple of weeks to work through. Also, great ear training for getting inside these blues licks and turnarounds. You rock!
Haha, me too. Last place I lived was right across the road from the train tracks. Noisy as hell and irritating being that close, but I also loved hearing it on this video. Added to the feel, and had me imagining the town outside on a cool spring morning sitting on the porch with my acoustic and a cup of coffee.
Hey Guthrie. Just discovered your channel. I've been playing as a hobby for over thirty years and just love picking up my guitars and knocking out a few melodies, strumming and singing songs solely for my personal enjoyment. Your lessons are awesome but can I make a positive comment. Can your zoom in on your fretting and picking hand to highlight the finer details. The content is fantastic and I humbly think that my suggestion would take your excellent videos to another level. Cheers mate.
Thank you for this education! Love where you're at with your chord structure/phrasing choices. You always do an excellent job of keeping the progression fresh and developing (accentuating different intervals of the chords and adding melodic fills wherever needed).
Exactly what I'm trying to perfect. Simple, yet complex at the same time. Great acoustic tone as well! You're a mean mistreater... on the guitar, that is. Rockin lesson! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Hey Guthrie, glad you had a great time in New York City, every time I hear New York City, I always think about the commercial with the hot sauce and the guy using a car key chain beeper when he ties his horse up to a hitching post. Did you hear that train passing by with the ghost of Willie Mae, Robert Johnson’s woman on board ? All My Love Is In Vain. When the train left the station, with two lights on behind, the blue light was my blues, the red light was my mind, all my love is in vain. I love Robert Johnson’s music, Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, all the Kings, etc.
one of my favorite things you play is when you sweep pick up , I think its an arpeggio , you do it alot and one of these days im gonna figure it out cause its sweet. Great lesson bro thanks
Just gotta learn to drag that pick at the right speed. The hardest part of playing arpeggios is barring. Rolling the fret finger to stop the previous note while sounding the next note is difficult, but eventually becomes second nature, like anything.
Fantastic again great stuff, thanks so much again!!! Can you do more of those tasty turnarounds also for the swing style electric guitar lesson that you did just recently and also elaborate on those concepts and chords to throw in more, that would be super! Choice stuff totally love your playing and so grateful that you share so generously! Greetings from Nelson East Tasman Bay New Zealand ... ;)
As an instructor myself, I highly suggest taking those skype lessons for anyone who can afford to. It is a fact that the feedback you will get is far more valuable than anything anyone will ever learn about playing any instrument on youtube.
The thing about you Guthrie is that despite being “ a little all over the place” you are melodic genius, a great disciple and a wonderful teacher. Your efforts are globally appreciated.
Wow.. Thanks so much man! Happy to help.

Thank you very much man!!
As an ex instructor myself, I cannot agree more. Learning why things are the way they are is liberating for any player of any style.
So much great information. Your a awesome teacher as well. Easy to understand and you slow it down but not to the point where your repeating it 1000 times. Good work sir. Keep em coming.
I think the train makes the blues more authentic. Nice touch.
Eric Rudd Me too! Thanks man!

John Janoski Thats right! Thanks a bunch man!
the fact you have trains going by while you play the blues. So awesome.
Guthrie, great lesson. You’re right up there with Josh Smith, Matt Schofield, Kirk Fletcher overall & I’d say you’re the most unique player.
Dillon Hamrick Thanks so much man! Best compliment I could get. Unique.
You've given away more awesome free stuff than anyone I know! And you do it because you love it! You're the greatest!
That syncopated turnaround is priceless, Truly priceless- thank you Guthrie!!!!

Lancelot Link Thanks man! Will do.
2:20 I like how you can't stop yourself from flying and enjoying playing music. From simple E7 rhythm then, bam you go. Great lessons.

Wow. Some tasteful blues. Love it.
I've only gotten thru the first 3 minutes and I'm already brimming with ideas. The information in this could make 50 videos.
