Great brakedown. Spent a few hours on it now. Its all fun and games, until that strecth! Thank you for doing this, very usefull. Coul you do a breakdown of Gutrhies solo here: ua-cam.com/video/VoagTn9rkII/v-deo.html Such great note choices and energy. Thanks!
the very last phrase is not G F# E but G# F# E, all played as sixth intervals with the melody note on top. That way it sounds more "chord"-y than just having that melody note alone. Apart from that, lovely breakdown of this, will definitely try to steal this for my playing!
Why do we love Tom and Guthrie so much???? It’s not just their playing which is gorgeous. They are just obviously great dudes. Favourite interview on Ricks channel. The piece they wrote and played together was so good. Refreshing to see genuine music and amazing musicians who are also real people like the rest of us.
It's really cool to see this out of nowhere and a compliment from Tom about it. I have noticed over the past few years that Tom can play a little bit. Actually, he has been one of my heroes since I first saw him. As soon as you started watching this dude ripping it up in a garage and being cool you were hooked. It was like all of a sudden you could hang out and listen to Jeff Beck fuck around and teach you shit. Good job, brother.
To know Tom watched this video is great to know and a nice comment too! Every video he pushes out makes me want to learn it and work what he is doing. Very interesting and takes your ear somewhere else. Thanks for the comment
Solid breakdown champ! At 5.35 he plays a double stop sliding from the 8th fret on the D and B string down to the 7th and pulls of without plucking the strings again onto the last E chord. It took me a few goes to get but it sounds smooth and buttery compared to the single note run. Toms such a beast at incorporating double stops.
Many of us true homeskoolers rewatched these golden snipets in the Beato interview (esp Guthries OMFG) to learn some true guitar wisdom! Well done video my friend!
Thank you. Great breakdown. When Uncle Larry plays that stretch, he looks like he’s got two or three more frets he could reach if he needs to. Effortless. Some of the thumb-over bass lines he (and Guthrie) were playing also sounded amazing. If you are looking for suggestions :-)
Thanks for the breakdown❤ Guthrie has some nice turnarounds❤ even Jimi Hendrix would have been impressed with that fancy pretty expensive turnaround🤠🎶🎵🔥
@@RiffsRhythm thank you for asking. I had been practicing this one just based off the original video. I thought this video was just a clip of the original and didn't realize you had done a breakdown when I commented. I'm also practicing his Tennessee Ford video. It's a simple progression but it is absolutely gorgeous. Perhaps you would like to go through that one too. Thank you!!!
Damn, this is sooo good, thank you so very much! Can you also analyze his shred pentatonic patterns, what he's playing later in the same video? It is probably very easy concept, but I can't figure it clearly by myself and how to aplicate it for real playing
just today I found a very good video where Tom explains everything about his picking by himself (The Ultimate Tom Bukovac Picking Lesson - Get Ready To Be Inspired) so, that's pretty much covers it. But maybe you'll be able to see something else from your angle. And always big thanks for your content.
Thanks for breaking this down! I just want to point out that Tom is playing a Gibson, which has a shorter scale length than your Fender, so the frets are a little bit smaller. Still, he does have quite a reach!
@@RiffsRhythm Oh, I see. That is indeed very useful. I am thinking of writing to YT to have the option to put the control bar on the top or move it outside the video frame. Thanks for your reply.
Can you explain harmonically what's going on with these turnarounds? Are they just chord tones from the next higher inversion of the E/E7 walking down/resolving to the 1 chord E?
Thats correct! It's the last 2 bars of the turnaround. E7 to B7 and this rundown happens on the E7 bar. Inversions running chromatically down to create tension to the release at the end of the I chord. Nice hey!
@@RiffsRhythm I've begun thinking of this as working off the "D" caged shape making this b7 from the 5th string movable up/down the neck. It makes this work in any key with the root of the "D" caged shape being the 1 chord. The same concept works off the "A" caged shape with the b7 being on the 6th string one fret (half step) above the A shape.
My hands are full of rheumatoid arthritis, I'm not even going to try that stretch...unless I can find a way to cheat. I've been doing that for a few years now.
Great player, sure. But I watched a video of TB's on his channel. In one video, he was so mean, angry and just plain nasty. I was astonished by how ugly he was about whatever it was he found disturbing (whatever he was so bent over was *that* important) that I down voted, unsubscribed and never watched another video of his. I'm *not* easily upset, but the guys angry was truly surprising. Sorry, it's not your fault Mr R&R, I just can't see the guy without being reminded.
Correction - The last chord is B7b9 not B7b5! What else did you want me to breakdown?
Great brakedown. Spent a few hours on it now. Its all fun and games, until that strecth! Thank you for doing this, very usefull.

Thanks!
Everything Tom played in the Beato video!
The Guthrie lick at around 3:07
Great! I’ll look into it
Haha yeah it’s gold
lovely mate...i like your style
You make it look too easy Tom! I’ll certainly be trying to steal some more gold from this video. Hope you don’t mind ☺️
@@RiffsRhythmit is all about stealing, and try to twist it.
You're almost done with them anyway, right Tom?

Thanks for sharing! Guthrie does the same lick later on and it’s tricky but worth the practice to get right!

Yeah it’s great music! Have you purchased the album?
You did very good, and it was worth listening to. That Tom guy sure had a lovely sultry tone happening there, too.
I need one of these for literally every Uncle Larry video
Make sure your subscribed then 👍
Check out his Tennessee Ford video and see if you love love love it too.
@RiffsRhythm subscribed and tempted to put that top tier Patreon sub to good use 🤔🤔🤔
@Deagle123 always very much appreciated to become a Patreon!

@@RiffsRhythm Same here! After almost 61 years at guitar, I still can't wait to learn new stuff. I was trying his lick out as soon as he played it.
He slides the first bass tone up together with the high. then he slides them down together on each chord, Cheers! And thanks for the break down.
Thanks for the lesson, and the tabs are a very good way to visualize it better, very effective.
I'm so glad that was helpful! More to come
Thanks. Couldn't figure out that last bit, but you nailed it.
Glad to help! Anything else you want to see broken down like this?
100% of the time I watch Tom play I stop what I’m doing and go grab a guitar. Don’t think there are many other people I can say that about
100% agree
Solid breakdown champ!

Thanks for sharing and good ear. I missed a couple of little nuances like this but that’s what’s great about this. We can all learn from one another.
Many of us true homeskoolers rewatched these golden snipets in the Beato interview (esp Guthries OMFG) to learn some true guitar wisdom! Well done video my friend!
Couldn't agree more! Let me know if there is any parts you want me to review and work out!
Tom slides into the last chord, which makes things a lot easier. No need to stretch that far!
Uncle Larry rocks!
The shorter scale of his Les Paul comes in handy for those pinky stretches 😅 Thanks for sharing.
Thats why he makes it look easy. To be fair I would still find that a stretch! haha
Well done. Ricks interview was just rolling when Tom came up with this gem. Stellar guitar work...
It's Beautiful isn't it!
Excellent video. I think those stretches are marginally easier on a gibsonesque scale length guitar but still a helluva workout!
Yeah I tried this on my Epi 335 after all these comments and it helped but still challenging!
Haven’t watched the Beato video yet. Thanks for the heads up. Gorgeous.
Go and watch now and report back here and tell me what you want to see next.
Thanks for doing that. Tom has a great little finger.
It's as musical as his other fingers for sure!
Just came across this - such a great lesson, clear and effective. No padding, but all the essential details. Thank you.
thanks so much for the positive feedback. I'm glad it helped you out! Let me know if there is anything else you want to see!
Thanks so much! Awesome you picked it up from the interview!
Thank you!

thanks so much for the comment! Yes his reach is vast. Makes it look easy. Thumb over bass lines, great idea. Stay tuned
Thanks for doing this. This was my favorite part of the show

was watching this yesterday trying to figure it out. Thank you for the tabs my friend! I subscribed!
Thanks for the sub! More to come!
Interesting, kind of got the brad mehldau-bluesy vibe from those two last examples there.
Well done that man! Toms piano skills seem to evident here which sets him apart in my opinion.
Yeah he has a rich harmonic vocab that definitely stems from Piano voicings. It's Beautiful!
Man I was trying to see what he was doing. Sweet video!! Thanks!!
Thanks for the comment and glad it was helpful.
Well done i am on vacation without guitar thinkin i have to figur that out when i come home 👍
Now you don't! Hope that has helped you out and saved some time when your back. Enjoy!
Thanks, great lesson!
Thank you for the comment. Glad it helped out
Nice, it took me about 15 minutes to learn. It never occurred to me to put the flat 7 in the bass.
I know! It's simple but rich is sound!
Very nice, thanks for the breakdown.
No problem! Is there anything else you want to see broken down like this?
Nice breakdown, thanks for doing this!
Thanks so much!
Bloody hell, I’ve chewed the end of my tongue off trying to get that third one!!!!
Haha yeah it’s one of them! Well put

thanks mate!
No worries!

been jonesing on practicing it in spurts over the last 24 hours; I'm making progress

Great work...it really hit me when I watched the Beato vid...thx for this!

No problem! Yes I think he would still fly on a fender but that eases the blow so thanks ☺️
very cool ! thx. His little first impro is pretty good too. If u you seek ideas to transcribe ;-)
Thanks I’ll check it out
You have a 25.5" scale, he's on a 24.75" scales... It makes a difference on the ease of stretches
Yes you are so right!
Tom's musicality is so subtley brilliant and understated. It grabs you and broadsides you at the same time!
100% agree, thanks for the comment

Thank you! More to come and a new vid you will like is out
I legit hurt my wrist tryin to slide back from that one position 😂 might have to do it without the A string still sounds good imo
Ouch! Fender style or gibson style guitar?
Nice lesson and good tabs, thanks! However, a standard irk with tabs at the bottom. When paused, the YT control bar is too intrusive.
Thanks for the feedback! I don’t know why I did it like this either as all my other videos I put on top! Future reference noted. Thank you

@@RiffsRhythm Good for now and much appreciated. Cheers
It’s not as bad of a stretch on a Les Paul, shorter scale length than a Fender!
Getting an endorsment from uncle buddy!
Even sweeter!

D’addario NYXL strings?
I’m using Stringjoy Strings
Uncle Larry playing a fiddy seben.
Only down slides in the end. Not up and down. From half a note higher . Listen in slow motion.
tom is such a quirky guy 😂 but man what an amazing musician
4:24 Well, that’s me out…😊
haha yeah me too
My hands are full of rheumatoid arthritis, I'm not even going to try that stretch...unless I can find a way to cheat. I've been doing that for a few years now.
Either try stage 3 or if you want that top line melody try to grab at least one of the other notes?
Great. Thanks. How did you copy the bits from the tom and guthrie interview to your own video please?
Your 3rd one is not what he is playing as he is not using the top strings
Black tonewood is best tonewood.
