    Should try Sugarcane with Lemon. The real Thai food (Nickname : Mini Thailand) is at Golden Mile Complex. Nearest MRT station is Nicoll Highway MRT Station. Opposite of this building has a Hawker Center too. Since you guys are staying around Aljunied station, should hop onto the train and go to Paya Lebar station to enjoy the Malay food at Geylang Serai and their night market since this period is their Ramadan.

    One thing to get right with hawkers centres and the like is the art of 'chope.' Have a look around with a keen eye to any where with a line-up for good food. While you looking, grab the first good table you see and ''chope' (reserve) it by placing something of yours on the table like an umbrella or more classically, one of those little packets of tissues that Aunties and Uncles hawk around the place. You can even leave your phone or your wallet and 99.99% chance it will still be there when you return. This is Singapore, and theft is not a big thing! I never tried a wallet or phone myself but I did see locals doing it.
    Oh, and do check out Tiong Bahru. Wonderful hipster/shanti vibe and the Hawker centre is good (try the Boa/Pao) and the bakery does almost Melbourne quality coffee.
    Glad to hear you find Singapore Citymapper useful.

    • @OnePackWanderers
      @OnePackWanderers  2 роки тому

      Thank you for explaining 'chope.' We noticed it quite a lot in hawker centers and food courts alike. Thought it was very strange, but this makes a lot of sense. You've got to have a very honest society for it to work, but it is very neat indeed 🙂

    Welcome to Sg! Yep, green chilly is pickled in vinegar. The magic in oyster omelette is in the chilly sauce, you need to dip them in the chilly which is more sour then normal. Go there for lunch, try the famous charsiew (roast pork) at Roast Paradise, Nam Sing hokkien prawn noodle or Xin Mei Siang Lor Mee (noodles in glutinous thick sauce, make sure you put dark vinegar, garlic and chilli into it), but be prepared to wait in long queues.

Tian Tian do a good version but there are many others across the better Hawker centres. Another Singapore classic dish is Crab Bee Hoon, its not cheap but if you find a good one, OMG! Do note you have to clear your tables at designated tray areas to avoid a fine (or some stares). The tray collection areas are divided by halal and non-halal… as the Muslim cutleries and plates must never be mixed with others. So if you ate from a Muslim stall, return the stuff only to the halal tray corners. :)

Keep adding till the soup spoon is full. Bend your head down and slurp down the noodles. Another way is to put the soup spoon flat inside the bowl and push the noodles onto it.
    Of course, you use your chopsticks to hold down the noodles as you bring it up, preventing it from slipping down.

    Go to Golden Mile Complex for Thai food. It's called Singapore's Little Thailand for a reason. You will feel like you have teleported back to Thailand the moment you stepped in. Other than that you guys should be trying all the famous Singaporean Hawker food while you are in Singapore.
