I did this conversion back in 2015 on my Legacy, I purchased a ready made loom to connect the Subaru radio connector into standard fit ISO set up. It was on eBay they were called a SOT cable, I didn’t have to add any connectors, it was plug and play.
The harnesses I used were the most common route that other Legacy owners used but good to know other options exist. This was all plug and play too with the adapter
I'm not entirely sure but if you have an integrated stereo and HVAC controls unit then I believe you might have too. I would reach out to an i88 adapter vendor to confirm though

Damn, I just bought a junk 2008 legacy for a few parts but it has the single climate control, my working legacy has the stock dual climate. Did you find a way to make the single climate control work with the dual climate module??
I want to do this, but i was wondering if its possible to switch the two big buttons on the climate controls to a USDM setup? I personally prefer it that way and my OCD won't let it go. Lol

@@jonyrho Ive triple checked all the wiring and its all good. The harness I have does have the illumination positive wire, but there is no illumination wire to connect to on my Alpine HU. Ive tried matching the dimmer wire to the illum wire but that only makes the stereo turn on when the headlights are on.
Im not sure if mine being USDM makes any difference (since I see yours is from a market using metric not imperial) but Im sure ive seen some illuminate fully on USDM models
As far as I'm aware, you will need to get a dual zone version as there isn't a single zone conversion. Might be different now though as it's been a few years
Best install video on this conversion! Only thing ill add doing this install remember to disconnect your battery.

I drive an Outback 2008 in Australia, do i still need the i88 adaptor to connect the other two plugs that go into the factory stereo, into my new HU?

@@jonyrho also i noticed that you said you connected the parking brake wire where the ground wire is on the sony HU. Is there an attachment you used?
Just grounded the wire for the parking brake so the stereo can be used all the time with no limitations
Hey, actually does it show temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit in your case?
Mine was a Canadian model so it showed celsius. I believe it shows to whatever unit your car originally shows

Unfortunately I don't think so since I never had to look into that but I could be wrong!

I have 2006 Subaru Legacy gt limited. Would this work to hook up a single did head unit? Or would I only need the radio harness?
You can basically follow the same steps and parts list but you would also need a single din storage box as well.
How much was it for your harness?
Does this conversion change the temp from Fahrenheit to Celsius for US cars?
Don't quote me on it as it's been a long time, but I think it will keep whatever unit the original base car uses but I could be wrong about that...
Celsius is much better anyway, how can you guys even understand Fahrenheit?

Doubt it would be possible unless you're a wizard when it comes to electronics. Honestly it bothered me a little bit but you get used to it

how did you get the HVAC portion to illuminate fully? Its quite dim for me
Might be a wiring issue. Make sure the harness you have has the illumination wired correctly

It took me a couple of days and about 1 week from the order for it to arrive. The Double DIN from AVOJDM took around 2 weeks to ship
I emailed him yesterday and I haven’t heard from him. So that helps to find these answers
