Those 351 HO engines came with a Motorcraft 4180 carb (basically a Holley 4160 with federal mandated anti tampering) If this engine has a Qudrajet it has a spreadbore adapter or an aftermarket intake manifold.
I later pulled this engine to use for another project, and you are correct. It has a spread bore adapter. I didn't know that it was a 4160, so thanks for letting me know! I swapped the q-jet for an edelbrock 650.
@@greenhillgarage The carb you show is definitely a Q-jet. The truck as it came off the dealers lot would come with a 4180 sitting on an EGR adapter plate. Edelbrock AVS 650 is a pretty good choice for the 351 HO. 👍
@Jim Urrata Sorry, I worded my reply weird, I meant to say that It had a Q-jet on it, and I didn't know what carb the 351 HO originally came with. 😅 The 650 edelbrock is definitely a great carb, I got it at a swap meet for $50, and it worked flawlessly!
Thanks for the video. I have an 84 that I am fixing to do some work to. Did you ever get the engine running with the new carb setup on it? How did the engine perform and is it still running? Thanks.
I ended up getting this one running with the quadrajet. It ran really good, but had low oil pressure so I have it on a stand waiting for a rebuild. I ended up scrapping the truck after getting all the good parts off it, and I am in the hunt for a Mustang or Bronco to build this engine for. Thanks for watching!
