Great job. I love bringing old rigs back around that have been forgotten about! I like to drain the oil and put a few quarts of diesel fuel in the sump, let them idle a few minutes and then drain it again and filler up with oil. Cleans the rings, lifters, and oil galleys right up. I'll change the oil once more after a few drives. Great job!
Same here. If a vehicle has been sitting for years l drain the old oil and then add 5-6 qts of kerosene, let it soak for a couple days then drain and then do that diesel fuel trick. Those old 302s can take almost anything and keep running as long as you keep them clean internally.
@@michaelreece458 even better keep the oil fill cap off , drain the old oil and screw on a cheap oil filter and add 8 quarts of ATF fluid ( but do not put the engine under any type of load ) just let the engine run , keep an eye on the oil light , change out the filter several times , drain the ATF fluid and add 6 quarts of a good quality full synthetic engine oil ATF fluid is high detergent and will dislodge all sludge that is holding the piston rings in the compressed position very quickly
That's a really nice revival. I'd love to have a truck in that shape to knock around town in. Currently, I am working on a 1988 Ford F250 7.3 IDI diesel truck I'm reviving. The truck needs a motor, I found a used 7.3 IDI to swap it with and I bought it. It's sitting at my house shrink wrapped and palletized waiting for the weather to get better so I can swap it in my driveway. This video gives me more motivation, I can't wait to get her on the road.
Another great job. I read about why you say ‘casings’ which was a neat story. Not making fun, but the way you say ‘awl’ and ‘cawl’ makes me smile, and every once in a while you throw in a ‘coyle’ to surprise us. Keep on!
A lot of people don't understand the love of an old Ford pickup. I have a 1990 F-150 4x4 and well probably had it until I die. Don't get me wrong a new truck is a lot more comfortable but there's just something about driving in an old pickup truck. Whenever I do take it out I always get thumbs up and a lot of times someone makes me an offer to buy it. I've had people knock on my front door and ask if I would consider selling my truck. My truck can sit three or four months without starting and when I go out there and it starts up almost all the time. There is some occasions when the battery does finally die from not using it. I like watching you getting this up and running again. I'm glad to see you did not take any shortcuts.
Man it's awesome to see the truck on the road again. Probably one of the easiest projects to get back on the road. It look like you didn't have to do too much. I know it'll probably be a great truck for your family.
My older brother had the exact Ford but with the straight 6. He sold equipment for Hunter engineer front end epuip, tire changer, you know all of it. Had new demo's of all the equipment mounted in a tandem axle trailer. That straight 6 pulled that equipment around for years, I think it was the strongest 6 cyl. any body ever built. If you buff that truck it would look brand new. Really nice truck, excellent job!👍
The body is in pretty good condition. Where I live in Winnipeg Manitoba. Trucks rust over the box wheel wells and cab corners are always rusted out. Nice job getting the old girl going

vehicles that se for years. need the brake system replaced...the fuel system gone thru...the trans. flushed and validated....the motor freedom up....first step is to run cold cranking compression...the move onto engine electrical!! that's just a start! thanks for your videos....god bless yall.
Some of those early 80s Fords had two fuel pumps from the factory, one mechanical and one electric. I guess someone decided to delete the electric one. The electric one was basically there to assist the mechanical one. Some of these Ford guys could probably tell you more about it than me, but I have seen that before. There was some reason that they did it, but I can;t remember what it is.
It was the 87 -91 and it wasn't to assist the mechanical pump it was to feed the high pressure frame rail pump. Was an electric low pressure 6psi pump. It also helped with switching tanks and not stalling if you ran out of gas as you switched. There wasn't any electric pump for the carbureted trucks. The "clicky clack" pump (as @vicegripgarage so lovingly calls them🤣) is an aftermarket pump most likely put there to not replace the mechanical pump that was failing again.
87 / 88 frame mounted high pressure ,90 / 96 in tank pump only. My 88 has frame high pressure pump but my 90 is in tank pump only. Some carburetor 460 had an electric assist pump.
These old vehicles you end up going through it end to end some times spending more than the vehicles worth iv been there with an old vehicle I had I had it 31 years had to cut my losses and got rid of it last year ,old jimmy australia good luck guys
I had a ‘83 3/4 ton with a 460. The needle and seat kept sticking and starving out of fuel. Had the carb rebuilt and it still didn’t fix it. It finally left me walking one time too many.
My son-in-law has one for sale here in Alberta Canada. It’s an 84 F150 with 437,000 klms on her. She’s needing some TLC for sure but drives well. Panels showing rust but can’t expect much else for a 36 years old truck. It’s a base cab 2 wheel drive automatic with twin gas tanks. The motor is a 5.8ltr V8 SOHC. We would fix her up but getting parts to Canada is to pricey. You Americans are lucky to have the likes of LMC Truck parts and Rock Auto to chose from. Great low prices for these old girls.
I live in Alberta, there are loads of economical parts available here! You don't even have to look hard. You just gotta look. If you are in southern Alberta, look up Checker auto in Didsbury Alberta. 🙂
Running over halfway on the temp. Got an issue there, most likely needs a new radiator, also, cooling passages in the engine could be gunked up. Definitely tons better, but lots more to do.
This is probably the most sensible revival I've seen in a while, no loading the parts cannon and no well while I'm in there I might as well syndrome... What it needed, no more and no less! I recommend disassembling the evaporator core box, that thing will be full of those pine needles and will get against the hot blower resistor and start the truck on fire and all you can do is watch it burn. Ask me how I know! Also loose the fram filters, I don't care how great anyone thinks they are or how many thousand years you've been using them, they suck as bad as old paraffin based Quaker state.
It would look fantastic if we painted it 4 ya. I just had 84 here and for some other unknown reasons that was another one that was found in an abandoned house in a detached garage where it had allegedly been for nearly 21 years according to the folks that now owned the property they had owned the an adjacent property for many years. They said the guy that left the trucks behind in the house was an old miser that never fixed anything. After they get over the bump of our bill there is allegedly yet another blue Ford and gray Chevy truck. All with no visible rust. We did find some really severe hidden decay inside the drivers side fender & the door bottom that just didn't pop out because the truck had not been exposed to weather for many years. As I explained things to them folks the first time it would see weather the rust would come thru the new paint. The rest of the 84 was rust proofed and we sealed all them leaky seems and screws that poke thru the floors of them older Fords. I don't know if there are any other resto guys that do these old Ford trucks because me I have only done a handful in my life time. But it seems from 1986 thru 1996 there are many spot welds that blew completely thru the metal leaving holes in the single and extended cab pickups. It appears the spot welder was not centered on the seems and where it hit a single layer aside the seem to be welded I would find holes from these misses of the spot welder. As stated the Ford factory Quality control missed that critical truck killing flaw. I don't know how things got so sloppy at Ford but I have seen this on the New Body style GM trucks too. It's not a pretty sight 10 20 years later to find rust up inside areas that shouldn't ever have any rust.
