I can not tell you how helpful this video was for us today!!! This is our second year with this snow blower and they are calling for 6-9 inches of snow tomorrow and we were trying to remember how to start our Toro and this video ended up saving us $175.00 which is what the local company said it would cost to fix it (clean the carburetor and change all the spark plugs, etc) as we could not get it to start. So thank you so very much for your time and attention to making this video.
Hi Kathryn, hoorah, awesome! So glad to hear that you took the time to start your snowblower rather than just pay the guy. DIY can save so much money. Thanks for your comment, hope all goes well for you with all that snow this winter!
Do you still like it? I’m a woman and usually do all the shoveling bc my honey has a bad back. I went with this model bc of the electric start. It can’t come quick enough!
You created a very excellent, clear video. At the time I bought my single stage thrower, my top 3 picks were Toro, Ariens and Craftsman. They were all good and priced fairly close to one another. I ended up going with Ariens; and watching how much effort you had to generate to redirect the output chute, I’m glad I did. On my Ariens, the chute redirect mechanism is easy to reach and operates like a back and forth throttle. I don’t have to move my body position and the “throttling” handle moves quite smoothly. I also checked out Husqvarna. The chute redirect was similar to the Ariens, but a lot smoother and it had a headlight. I opted away from it because it was built in Malaysia and had no replaceable parts. In the years of owning my Ariens, I never really found myself wishing it had a headlight. The Craftsman was actually my favourite, but I knew Sears was heading downhill and I didn’t want to end up with a machine I couldn’t service. Cheers!
Hi Mike, glad you like your Ariens. We made another video more recently where we review the Toro 60 Volt Power Clear Snow Blower: ua-cam.com/video/3VcTOnNtDkQ/v-deo.html On this model the chute is very easy to operate. Thanks for all of your comments!
Hi Brian, hopefully you were able to start your snow blower. If you are having difficulty, it could be from old gas. If you didn't run the machine dry the previous season you could syphon the old gas out and add fresh gas. Good luck!
@@Housebarons Unfortunately i had to shovel. I think it was due to old gas because i turn the key right primed twice and pulled the string but it still wouldn’t start. How do you drain the old gas out?
@@bigjohnson721 You can pick up a gas siphon at almost any hardware store, like Lowe's. It will have a pump ball on it and 2 tubes. Put one tube in the container that will collect your old gas. Put the other tube in the gas tank and squeeze the pump ball, The gas should travel up the tube into the container. Bring the old gas to a hazardous waste location. Be sure to refill your snow blower with fresh gas, preferably a week old or less. Hope this helps!
@@bigjohnson721 I had to replace my carburetor as the old gas gummed it up. I've been putting seafoam in the gas can before filling it. I also put in a fuel line valve and just turn that off when I'm done clearing the driveway so it runs the carb dry. End of season I just run straight seafoam in the carb to keep gaskets from drying out. Now it starts up right away each time, even beginning of the season.
This guy is correct on the electric start. Spend the extra money and get it. I have had mine for 4 years and starts right up every winter with one push of that red button. Also, the Toro snowblower with the adjustable shoot on the handle is awesome. It sucks to have to go to the front of the machine and manually change it every swipe.
Helpful! Thanks. You made a comment about the gas and not tipping the unit all the way up. Can you expand?Unfortunately, I tipped it on its end to store it over the summer.
Thanks brother.. snowing in the northeast right now NY/NJ area .. first time home owner this was helpful.. bought mine off the last homeowner. He never used it and I could tell because he set the handle up wrong 😂
I have a question. I own the newer model of this type of thrower, my question, does it tend to leave little drops of oil on the ground here and there? I don't have any leaks, the plug is screwed in. second question, I can't find information on how to adjust the blade height, didn't know if you had figured that out. Thanks for your time. Mike...
Hi Mike, we haven't had any oil drops appear when using our 721e, not sure why that is happening on yours. Also, we are not aware of any blade adjustment. None are listed in our manual. This isn't a high end commercial snow blower, but it usually gets the job done. The following info is from @t: You can only adjust the clearance height on a two stage snow blower. Single stage snow blowers use auger paddles that are meant to come into direct contact with the ground, so height adjustment isn’t necessary. A 2 stage snow blower has power-assisted wheels and more adjustment options. The scraper plate can be adjusted. Here is a good video to show how to do that: @ Hope this helps!
I like that electric cord , gives me a idea maybe add a little electric heater to assist starting , if someone was having a lot of cold start problems. Thumbs up
This is such a clear video! Just bought a similar model after getting about 12+ inches the other day. Thanks for this! It'll help me getting going at the next snow dump!
I’m not finding any advice on adjusting the auger (blade) height. My paver driveway would prefer a bit less contact pressure and blowing on gravel areas would seem to be highly inappropriate. Mine is the 721R with none of the bells and whistles.
Hi G Wolf, the following info is from jackssmallengines.com: You can only adjust the clearance height on a two stage snow blower. Just had the opportunity to get the machine started. I found the gizmos in different positions. There is a red key that doesn't turn, but to stop the blower, the "key" is pulled out. The choke is a lever under the "key" and primer button. To set the choke, the lever is pushed forward toward the front of the blower.
Hi montcopatriots, sounds like you have everything figured out. The manual says Prime 3 times, Plug in extension cord (or pull recoil start handle) Push in choke lever slowly Unplug the extension cord The above should work for electric start or manual. Hope this helps, good luck with your snow removal this winter!
Hi NSX Properties. This is not a heavy duty snow blower. However, for the price it does a good job overall. You might have to go over the area where the snow plow went a couple of times, but it does not want to stall out. If it is a really big snow fall you might have to shovel that part out. If you get one, let us know how you like it. Good luck!
Well, with the forecast for a hard winter coming for the eastern side of the country, I've gotten interested in blower videos. I have a 721 RC and love it. It's pretty much a Beast. Cuts through to about a foot when it gets packed a bit. Probably would go through more if its dry, fluffy snow. One thing I noticed about yours is that it seems to surge a bit while you're working. I'd like to suggest a strong dose of Seafoam mixed with new gas for this season. If you feel like taking the bowl off the carb and taking piece off nylon off of a broom, running it up the jet in the tube, I think it might run muuch better. Cheers
@rasleenkaur9699 Best way is to start with a fresh can of gas and one ounce per gallon when purchased. I'd go a half ounce in the tank to give the carb a good cleaning
Does the sequence of "turn ignition, pull out choke, prime" matter? With the manual, you pulled out the choke, then turned the ignition on, then primed. With electronic, you turned the ignition on, then primed, then pulled out the choke. Our blower is new, and we could have 24 inches of snow by Thursday AM. HELP!! Thanks. :-)
Hi Montcopatriots, the manual for this snowblower says to 1) turn the ignition key clockwise to the On position 2) Pull out the choke lever 3) press primer bulb 3 times with thumb, hold the primer in for one second each time 4) pull the recoil start cord After it starts, push the choke lever back to turn off the choke Not sure if you did this out of order if it would start. We just follow the instructions and the machine starts right up. Hope this helps. Good luck!
@@Housebarons Thanks so much. My snow blower is a somewhat different model. It doesn't have a key, but has a button to push to turn on (with cord plugged in). Has a pull cord if push button doesn't work. Also, to turn it off, one pulls a red plastic "key" out from the side. Strange animal. :-)
The Amazon link you posted shows that the snow blower is currently unavailable. I just ordered the Toro 721 R at Home Depot for $649 minus 10% off veteran discount for a total price of $584.10 plus tax. Great deal.
Love these reviews! The only issue i have with all the Honda and toro single stage reviews are that they never seem to show the snowblower in action at the snow plow pile at the end of the driveway... anyone know how they perform!?
I bought the Toro 821 single stage power clear blower. Love it! Clearing the snow at the end of the driveway after a plow goes thru is a piece of cake. It's worth the extra money to get this more powerful engine too.
Hey M, The snowblower will act the same way a shovel will. If it is a pain to shovel, snowblowing will be pretty difficult. There is a sidewalk next to my how where different sections have risen over the years. When I hit one of those , snowblower stops dead in its tracks till I guide it higher. Thx for watching !
Hi Chris, Toro data says it will throw 35 feet. That hasn't been our experience. Maybe 25 feet or a bit more, but we never measured the exact distance. A lot can factor into the throwing distance such as amount of snow and how wet or powdery the snow is. This snow blower is powerful and easy to use.
This model is the 212cc; how does it compare to the toro 821 which has 252cc? I live in Montreal Canada, we get lots of snow. Which do you recommend? I have small 2 car drive way with a mild slope
Hi Steven, we haven't used the Toro 821 so we can't compare the two. If you have a small 2 car driveway with a mild slope the 721 E should be fine. We also reviewed the new 60 volt Toro battery powered snow blower, which would be another option, a link is below: ua-cam.com/video/3VcTOnNtDkQ/v-deo.html Let us know which option you go with and how you like it. Good luck!
821 is junk, selling mine after 2 seasons, plastic wheels, snow sticks to them and chute freezes up all the time, new scraper design makes you literally feel and hit ever crack in driveway or sidewalk, 721 is the same, I use them commercially, so I know, up in the air on what to buy now, any suggestions out there guys or gals? Need something light quick powerfull and maneuvers easily, unlike the 821 qze. Thanks
If you went side to side on your driveway you can have the chute going straight and it will throw the snow a lot further. also this machine cleans right down to the pavement. Not for use on a grave driveway
Hi Larry, for the driveways that I take care of, there is no issue with throwing the snow down the narrow part of the driveway to the sides. It is the large section of driveway, near the houses that sometimes requires a double throw. Thanks for your comment!
@@Housebarons I love this machine. It eats through 10 inches of snow that I have raked off of the roof. As you might know this is packed snow when it comes off of the roof.
Do you have any idea what the name is for the part that connects to the handle that turns the auger on? Mine broke this summer and I would like to replace it before the winter.
Hi Chosen Juan, from Toro: For best starting results use Non-ethanol fuel with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Use fresh fuel less than 30 days old, add fuel stabilizer to reduce starting problems. Good luck!
Hey Brent, Assuming it is not clogged by snow????.... Pull the thinner handle bar back to the main handle bar. That engages the paddles. If that isn’t working, maybe try and check to make sure that bar is connected by some linkage. Hope that helps...
@@Housebarons thanks so much for the reply! Yeah, no clogged at all and belt is fine. It feels like the cord that connects the thin handle to the metal piece that connect that cord and the cord to the auger today has too much slack. I’ll play around with it tomorrow to see if I can get it tightened back up.
Hi, I am new here, just bought my 721 QZE days ago. The manual indicate on the maintenance, on top on page 12, that "After the first 2 hours • Change the engine oil". Really ? After the first two hours of operating my new QZE I have to empty and put new oil ? Strange...
Hey Liviu...., I’ve heard about that practice with new engines. It’s to help remove impurities from the initial running of the engine. The engine has metal on metal parts and till the oil coats all those metal parts, the parts experience a lot of friction and wear. So it’s a good practice. A little extra hassle with those gas engines. That’s why I’ve opted for all battery powered : lawn mower, snow blower, weed eater etc. Got tired of messing with the quirkiness of gas engines as they age. But certainly while it’s new, I’m sure you’ll love your newest Toro gas tool! Thanks for commenting and for watching -welcome!!
Hi Mrbubetube, the Toro 721 has a couple of models, one has an electric start and the other one doesn't. The electric start is more expensive, but in our opinion well worth the extra money because it will probably start on very cold days. If you purchased the model with the electric start, you don't have to use the electric start, you can start it manually with the pull cord. However, if that doesn't work, just plug it in and try to start. More than likely it will start right up. Thanks for the question. Let us know how it works out!
Hi Ron, great, glad to hear that you like this snow blower. Toro is sending us a 21 inch Battery powered snowblower to review next week. It is called the Power Clear. Probably the same one that you have. We are looking forward to reviewing it. Thanks for your comment!
Hey Sara, Was the gas in there from a previous year. It can go bad and clog fuel flow. Fuel problem, spark problem or air problem are the 3 most likely problems. My brother has all gas tools etc. He made this particular video. I on the other hand have converted to battery powered lawn mower, snow blower and weed trimmer - I got tired of always having to mess with gas engines being finicky. Quick solution - get it tuned up at local small engine store. Long term - battery equipment is easier! Thx for watching!
You missed one key reason why people we stch your video. The purpose of the choke. Can you please add subtitles to the video to say push the choke in after it warms up? Thanks for sharing .
Hey Mario, An engine is all about fuel, air& spark. I’d check the air filter is clean - make sure air can get into engine. If not, then it may well be the carb - might need to be cleaned - sometimes they gum up. Honestly, I’ve transitioned to battery equipment as I got tired of the maintenance that gas powered machines require. Hope that helps. Thx for watching!
I used blowers for commercial snow removal and the Toro is the best by far, but being a 2 stroke the electric start is a waste of money. Buy a 721 without it, you'll never have trouble starting it by hand. The weak point is the cable clutch, its made of plastic and will break in time, the upgraded one is metal. Also In time the paddles and scraper will need replacing they're around $90 Cdn and easy to replace. Last of all keep a spare belt and cable because when you least expect it one of them will break.
Hi Craig, Toro Power Clear® 721 E (38753) is self propelled. I would say there should be at least an inch of snow on the ground to be effective. Hope this helps! Also, we will be doing a review soon of Toro's 60 volt battery powered snow blower, hopefully next week.
Thank you so much!! The manual doesn't make any sense.. the only other thing I might add is once the machine is started push in the choke button. May be obvious to most 😊👍
Hi Cheryl L, yes, definitely, that should have been mentioned in the video. Thanks for pointing that out. Sorry that you still having to use your snow blower. It's getting a bit warmer where we are in Indiana, so we are getting out our mowers. Thanks for your comment, good luck with your snow blower!
Do you ever get snow spraying under back at your feet. Mine dies it sometimes. Put new paddles and cutting edge. Are the wheels suppose to have play or be some what tight
I have a similar paddle blower. Any idea what would make it stall out every time I hit the snow? It's a 21 inch clearance, just had about 10 inches of snow out in the driveway, and every time I hit the snow it just stopped running.
Hi SPRIGGANX02, one guess is old fuel. You can siphon the gas out and replace it with fresh gas. Gas can go bad after just a few weeks. Also, you can replace the spark plug. In addition, change the oil. Speaking of which, if you don't have enough oil, the machine could stop. Hopefully one of these will solve your issue, good luck!
It is good but soon you have to replace the paddles and scraper bar, but after the clutch cable disconects (because of foulty Z lock) and you have to replace the cluthc cable and idle arm same time. I use a 2 stage snow blower without these problems.
Big tip that will save a lot of time and aggravation: coat the shoot with a liberal application of silicone. The 721 shoot gets clogged frequently, when the snow is wet and heavy. The silicone eliminates this problem and makes the snow blowing experience far more pleasurable.
Hi Derek, this is an awesome snowblower for general use. However, dealing with the compacted snow/ice pile left by a huge snow plow is a different story. For that, I use the old fashioned snow shovel method. If you are looking for a snow blower to remove a plow pile you would have to buy a much more heavy duty model, which will be a lot heavier and way more expensive. Hope this helps, good luck!
Thank you for your reply, years ago I broke my back, it is all pinned together. Then 4 years ago I crushed the left side of my chest and caused permanent damage to my lung. Shoveling snow was one thing I enjoyed doing. That is why I have never bought one. Last winter was the first time I had trouble. 62 now and not getting younger. I can still manage everything but the plow pile. I truly enjoyed your video lots for me to think of. Once again thank you for your time.
Hi Derek, wow, you have been through a lot. Awesome that you are still handling your own snow removal. Toro just reached out to us to review their new battery operated snow blower. Don't know if will have enough juice to take on the plow pile, but if we do the review, we will let your know. Good luck this winter!
I bought this Toro model in 2019 and have had to have it serviced every year. Today's spring snowfall was a challenge: the machine would not start without the electric starter; when I finally got it started it would get stuck on the least bump on the driveway; the snow measured about 8 inches in some places and the thrower would just fill up with the snow and NOT function but would spread the snow all over the front and back of the machine. I do not recommend this snowblower as it is actually harder and more tiring to use than a regular snow shovel!
I totally get you! That’s why I have graduated to all electric only / battery tools. Toro makes a great battery snow blower if you typical snows are under 10 inches or so. And there are bunches of lawn mowers and trimmers out there that more than hold their own. No more gas!!! Much easier. ua-cam.com/video/-RTXOL1nlSc/v-deo.htmlsi=Dhl7bLMl6a7fE59K Thx for watching!
Hey Gsmedina, Once it warms up, the choke can be pushed in/ off. It’s just to help it start and get warmed up. You can put it back bit by bit as it warms up. Thx for watching.
It dose not look like a strong snow throw. When do a narration you might want to script it out just a bit. You did a good job it just needs to be tightened. Good info thank you .
Hi Denny, this is a mid range snow blower, so it doesn't throw the snow as far as a high end snow blower. I have found that if I am in a wide part of the driveway I can throw the snow to the middle and then throw it again a second time to reach the edge of the driveway. Overall it works very well.
Thanks for the video. I have a 12 year old Honda single stage and to be honest it still looks like a better unit than this. It starts first pull pretty much all the time still to this day no matter how cold. Throws snow further than this one as well. The chute handle is much longer and metal so you can easily reach it to adjust both high and low and right and left at the same time. I have yet to require maintenance on it either. Also a tip for you. Never put something that can leak gas or oil in your beautiful house even to warm it up. It’s a snowblower it should start in the cold if it is a good one.
Hi ILoveSpeed716, I am totally a Honda guy! My first car was a Honda CRX. I have a Honda lawnmower and I am on my second Honda Pilot. However, I must say that the Toro snowblower is perfect for a medium to large driveway. Thanks for you comments!
Extreme House Flipping thanks for the reply. I was watching your video as I have been looking for a possible replacement for my Honda as I have to help several of my neighbors who are older and nothing beats the single stage units for speed and ease of use. I would agree with you that the Toro and the Honda both make great units.
@@Housebarons I wanted to ask you is it easy to take the snowblower, spark, plug out and clean behind the blade like that it doesn’t turn over or is it underneath too much stuff to get to? I was thinking of buying one of those unless they sell a special tool.
Nice. But I have a bad back and don't feel like constantly bending over to Adjust the snow blower chute to direct the angle of the snow to be thrown at. That's a PITA. I got me a 28" Craftsman Quiet Snow Blower since , so far so good. All snow blowers can be a bitch to start after a Season of not using it. I suggest you make sure all gas has ran through the lines and carburator till engine shuts off on its own. Otherwise those lines and cheap carburators all snow blowers bring will get clogged up with gummy dried gas. There is no fix to that other than taking carburator apart or replacing it with a new one and that can also be a Major PITA. Trust me I know 🤦🏼♂️ This seems to be a great snow blower for most. For me, I will have to pass because of if limited capabilities.
Hi EL EVO, glad to hear that you like your Craftsman snow blower. We did make another video about the Toro 60 Volt Battery Power Snow Blower: ua-cam.com/video/3VcTOnNtDkQ/v-deo.html If you go to the 1:50 point of that video you will see that this snow blower has a chute control lever in the rear of the machine, so you don't have to walk to the side to control it. This feature might help with your bad back. Thanks for your comments, good luck this winter!
I've used this snow blower for the past 2 years in Wisconsin ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN and been quite pleased with my purchase. For the money this was a great deal, though you will have to buy a 15 amp rated extension cord which will probably add another $100. This snow blower was a back saver for me for the past 2years, while this isn't a 2 stage gas snow blower by any means, it performed admirably and was able to plow through 2 foot plus snow plow piles at the end of my driveway, through the 2 foot snow plow piles took quite a bit of effort and time. Still this was much easier than going at it with a shovel. My only gripe with it is with having to keep track of the cord and move it around as to not run it over, but that is part of the deal when you buy a corded electric snowblower.
Hey Matt, Not a lot of experience with that. But wet hard packed I say not do good. Dryer hard pack = ok. The height of the snow blower it a bit of a challenge to that as well. Mountain of snow - a gas snowblower I’d likely better. Thx for watching!

Hi Mike, we haven't had any oil drops appear when using our 721e, not sure why that is happening on yours. Also, we are not aware of any blade adjustment. None are listed in our manual. This isn't a high end commercial snow blower, but it usually gets the job done.
The following info is from @t:
You can only adjust the clearance height on a two stage snow blower.
Single stage snow blowers use auger paddles that are meant to come into direct contact with the ground, so height adjustment isn’t necessary.
A 2 stage snow blower has power-assisted wheels and more adjustment options.
The scraper plate can be adjusted. Here is a good video to show how to do that:

Great Demo! Very informative
Hi Thom, glad it was useful, thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing. Great advise!!
Hi Mario, certainly, hope this video helps, good luck this winter and thanks for your comment!
Electric start is a great idea on really good mornings or days for that matter who wants to wear themselves out pulling on a cord .
Hi Seth B, yes, we agree, the electric start is awesome, thanks!
I like that electric cord , gives me a idea maybe add a little electric heater to assist starting , if someone was having a lot of cold start problems.
Thumbs up
Hi Larry, the electric start has always worked so far. Thanks for your comment!
This is such a clear video! Just bought a similar model after getting about 12+ inches the other day. Thanks for this! It'll help me getting going at the next snow dump!
Hey Seven,
Thx for watching!
Thanks for the video, well done I will make a purchase.
Hope you enjoy it!

I’m not finding any advice on adjusting the auger (blade) height. My paver driveway would prefer a bit less contact pressure and blowing on gravel areas would seem to be highly inappropriate. Mine is the 721R with none of the bells and whistles.

The manual says Prime 3 times,
Plug in extension cord (or pull recoil start handle)
Push in choke lever slowly
Unplug the extension cord
The above should work for electric start or manual. Hope this helps, good luck with your snow removal this winter!
@@Housebarons Thanks. Snow started at 1:15 PM today (outside Philly) and my hubby can't wait for it to get deep enough to use his new toy. :-)
What oil do you need ?
How does it handle the heavy snow at the end the driveway left by the plow? Does it want to stall out?
Hi NSX Properties. This is not a heavy duty snow blower. However, for the price it does a good job overall. You might have to go over the area where the snow plow went a couple of times, but it does not want to stall out. If it is a really big snow fall you might have to shovel that part out. If you get one, let us know how you like it. Good luck!
@@Housebarons How does it compare to the Snow Master 724 for the heavy snow?
Cheers
Hi Robsbrd99, yes, we hear that it might be a tough winter. Definitely a good time to invest in a quality snow blower. Thanks for your thoughts!
How much seafoam to add in 1L tank
@rasleenkaur9699 Best way is to start with a fresh can of gas and one ounce per gallon when purchased. I'd go a half ounce in the tank to give the carb a good cleaning
Does the sequence of "turn ignition, pull out choke, prime" matter? With the manual, you pulled out the choke, then turned the ignition on, then primed. With electronic, you turned the ignition on, then primed, then pulled out the choke. Our blower is new, and we could have 24 inches of snow by Thursday AM. HELP!! Thanks. :-)
Hi Montcopatriots, the manual for this snowblower says to 1) turn the ignition key clockwise to the On position 2) Pull out the choke lever 3) press primer bulb 3 times with thumb, hold the primer in for one second each time 4) pull the recoil start cord
After it starts, push the choke lever back to turn off the choke
Not sure if you did this out of order if it would start.
Is it self propelled? I bought an 18" but it doesn't seem to be self propelled... thanks!
Trying to find out what these costed pre 2020 price inflation. What did these run? They are 700 now.
Great job
What position do you leave the choke while starting and operating?
Hi Robert, pull the choke lever out to start the engine. Once it is started push the choke lever back in. Hope this helps!
Thank you. That was my question as well. Great video instructions.
The Amazon link you posted shows that the snow blower is currently unavailable. I just ordered the Toro 721 R at Home Depot for $649 minus 10% off veteran discount for a total price of $584.10 plus tax. Great deal.
Hey Polsko..,
Thx for the update. I’ll check that link!
Thx for watching!
Thanks for the info. I’m assuming the blade should not be engaged when starting? That must be why I can’t get it to start.
If the (paddles)blade is engaged it won't start, something is wrong in the clutch, its an easy fix
Good video...I thought these things were supposed to blow 35ft?
concrete around my home is uneven will this be a problem when blowing snow? wanted to know before purchase. thanks in advance
Hey M,
The snowblower will act the same way a shovel will. If it is a pain to shovel, snowblowing will be pretty difficult. There is a sidewalk next to my how where different sections have risen over the years. When I hit one of those , snowblower stops dead in its tracks till I guide it higher.
Thx for watching !
Is that one with a 35 throwing distance
Hi Chris, Toro data says it will throw 35 feet. That hasn't been our experience. Maybe 25 feet or a bit more, but we never measured the exact distance.
A lot can factor into the throwing distance such as amount of snow and how wet or powdery the snow is. This snow blower is powerful and easy to use.
HouseBarons thanks
This model is the 212cc; how does it compare to the toro 821 which has 252cc? I live in Montreal Canada, we get lots of snow. Which do you recommend? I have small 2 car drive way with a mild slope
Hi Steven, we haven't used the Toro 821 so we can't compare the two. If you have a small 2 car driveway with a mild slope the 721 E should be fine. We also reviewed the new 60 volt Toro battery powered snow blower, which would be another option, a link is below:
ua-cam.com/video/3VcTOnNtDkQ/v-deo.html
Let us know which option you go with and how you like it.
Hey Cierra,
Auger handle?? 😬
Maybe call Toro - they know correct name and part number. Best to get it from them.
Thx for watching!
What gasoline does it take?
Hi Chosen Juan, from Toro:
For best starting results use Non-ethanol fuel with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Use fresh fuel less than 30 days old, add fuel stabilizer to reduce starting problems.
Good luck!
@@Housebarons Thanks. Although I ended up using TruFuel 4 cycle engines instead of gasoline. Great video also!
Any tips/advice for if the paddles/auger aren’t spinning?
Hey Brent,
Assuming it is not clogged by snow????....
Hey Brent,
That sounds like you may be on to it. It would make sense since that handle is what gets it all moving.
Hi, I am new here, just bought my 721 QZE days ago. The manual indicate on the maintenance, on top on page 12, that "After the first 2 hours • Change the engine oil". Really ? After the first two hours of operating my new QZE I have to empty and put new oil ? Strange...
Hey Liviu....,
I’ve heard about that practice with new engines.

Thank you very much ! In that case, any oil 5w30 will fit ? E. G. Castrol gtx synthetic 5w30 will be ok to please my beauty ?
Should be fine - especially synthetic! Great stuff!
Do you push the choke back in after the engine is running?
Hey Bits…,
Yes.
Thx for watching.
so you have to plug the cord in first and then pull start it?
Hi Mrbubetube, the Toro 721 has a couple of models, one has an electric start and the other one doesn't. The electric start is more expensive, but in our opinion well worth the extra money because it will probably start on very cold days.
If you purchased the model with the electric start, you don't have to use the electric start, you can start it manually with the pull cord.
However, if that doesn't work, just plug it in and try to start.
More than likely it will start right up.
Thanks for the question. Let us know how it works out!
Just bought the TORO lithium battery powered snow blower!! Love it !
Hi Ron, great, glad to hear that you like this snow blower. Toro is sending us a 21 inch Battery powered snowblower to review next week. It is called the Power Clear. Probably the same one that you have. We are looking forward to reviewing it. Thanks for your comment!
@@Housebarons >>Looking forward to your review!
Any tips if it won’t start?
Hey Sara,
Was the gas in there from a previous year.
Ok question....do you leave the ckoke out when you plow???
Hey Sharon,
Typically pulling the choke out is to help it start. After it gets going you can push it in and it should run better.
Thx for watching!
You missed one key reason why people we stch your video. The purpose of the choke. Can you please add subtitles to the video to say push the choke in after it warms up? Thanks for sharing .
@@chicagohavoc thank you ..your answer was " to the point".
When i put the choke in it wants to stall. Any ideas.
Hey Mario,
An engine is all about fuel, air& spark.
Is there a minimum amount of snow that there should be on the ground in order for this model to be effective? Also, is it self propelling?
Hi Craig, Toro Power Clear® 721 E (38753) is self propelled. I would say there should be at least an inch of snow on the ground to be effective. Hope this helps! Also, we will be doing a review soon of Toro's 60 volt battery powered snow blower, hopefully next week.
@@Housebarons Thanks!
Hi Chachifeere, no, we haven't experienced snow spraying at our feet.
Our wheels are relatively tight. Good luck this winter!
Maybe check your scraper bar isn’t worn and is set properly?
@@KN-ko8ez my 721 works great that I changed the paddle and bar, my 518 sprays back even with a new bar
Hey Arbaches,
Very interesting! Thanks for the input. Good to know.
Thanks also for watching.
Big tip that will save a lot of time and aggravation: coat the shoot with a liberal application of silicone. The 721 shoot gets clogged frequently, when the snow is wet and heavy. The silicone eliminates this problem and makes the snow blowing experience far more pleasurable.
Hey Robert,
That sounds like a great tip! Thx!
How is it with the plow pile
WE had 5 inch of wet heavy snow and it did the end of drive way easy where the plow threw the snow.
Your right side handle wingnut is missing,
Hi Rod, ok thanks for letting us know, we will get a new one.

Do you leave the choke out the whole time it’s on?

Once it warms up, the choke can be pushed in/ off. It’s just to help it start and get warmed up.
You can put it back bit by bit as it warms up.

Hi NSX Properties, sorry, we aren't familiar with the 518zr, but we can say the 721 E is a very good value for the money.
Hey nice video It sounds like it needs carburetor cleaning
Hey Joseph,
Thx for watching!
I have one and it throws snow an easy 30ft. Love this machine
Thank you this help me :)
Hey Sam,
Great! Thx for watching!
Shouldn’t need choke when using the electric start
Use VP fuel instead of gas from station s . And have a shut off valve installed .
Hey Merlin,
Thx for the tips!
Thx I was able to start it.
Hi Chase, awesome, glad to hear that, hope it runs well all winter!
Hi ILoveSpeed716,
I am totally a Honda guy!
Video was great, the manual not so much.
I should hire you to clean the snow really quick. I’m only joking.
Hey loca…,

Trust me I know 🤦🏼♂️
This seems to be a great snow blower for most. For me, I will have to pass because of if limited capabilities.
Hi EL EVO, glad to hear that you like your Craftsman snow blower.
We did make another video about the Toro 60 Volt Battery Power Snow Blower:
ua-cam.com/video/3VcTOnNtDkQ/v-deo.html
If you go to the 1:50 point of that video you will see that this snow blower has a chute control lever in the rear of the machine, so you don't have to walk to the side to control it. This feature might help with your bad back.
Thanks for your comments, good luck this winter!

Hey Andre,

Hi Coralie, yes, there are a few controls, but if you follow the steps it should work just fine, good luck!
How well does this blower handle hard packed snow at the end of the driveway?
Hey Matt,
Not a lot of experience with that. But wet hard packed I say not do good. Dryer hard pack = ok. The height of the snow blower it a bit of a challenge to that as well. Mountain of snow - a gas snowblower I’d likely better.
