So very tasteful and masterful with such a large vocabulary of blues phrasing and great tone to match. Way better than so-called blues guitarists. Russell Malone was a one-of-a-kind blues oriented jazz guitarist and will be dearly missed.
I built that amp, and met this great player that same evening. He was super nice and always had a funny joke or something positive to say. He went out and spoke to the audience on every break . Was a very cool man! RIP
I used to talk to Russell occasionally and one thing that stood out was that wherever he went, anywhere in the world, there were some local guitarists he wanted to check out if he had some extra time. Jimmy Gourley in Paris, Nelson Symonds and Sonny Greenwich in Montreal, Ed Bickert or Reg Schwager in Toronto. "I'm gonna go out and hear some Jimmy Gourley if I get a chance...." Huge ears, constant respect for colleagues.
We grew up in the same church together in Albany I don't remember him that well thank you for the story. I was just a child sorry to hear about his passing I I don't remember him but I know he remember me.
I had the privilege of seeing him with Ron Carter and Donald Vega in Portland OR last night. You could have heard a pin drop during his solo rendition of Candle Light. So beautiful…such skill and passion.
@@RonCarterBassist Mr. Carter, it was a true privilege, a highlight of my life seeing and hearing you! Thanks so much for your response, and above all thank you for your work that touches my heart in profound ways. Many blessings, -Dana C.

If you every get a chance to talk to him you'll see he's a very down to earth person. My friend for life. Thanks Aaron McCarthy good giving me that opportunity to play with such great musicians. ( Milkshake )
Just saw him in a break between sets at Chris Jazz Café channel - I was just thrilled by him and had to ask another one in the chat "who was THAT on guitar?". Luckily, he knew the name of the guy... :)
A master. One of his influences had to have been Wes. The warm deep tone is reminiscent of Wes and there is an occasional phrase or chordal voicing that brings Wes to mind, but otherwise his own man.

He once bought a guitar that belonged to me.
Really not a better world without Russel Malone.
Aww, he's not resting... he's still making music in heaven! ♥
He's jammin with Wes Montgomery.
Rest in peace Mister Malone, thank you very much❤🙌🙌
So glad for the gift of his music. Rest well😢🎸

Lucky you
I played with Mr Malone at Marko's in Atlanta Georgia in the 1980's
One of the greatest sets of ever heard.
Man I can hear grant green and my favourite jazz guitarist kenny burrell come out in your playing mr Malone you have a sublime sound.
As close to Grant Green in modern guitar as it gets but totally "new" Just beautiful. I love the hints of Greens blues and tonality. WOW👈👈👈👈👍👍👍👍
His thumb is always over the 6th string fretboard.... very poor technique

Too Cool🥰🥰🥰
Love, Love this musician. I first heard him wih Diana Krall and fell in love with his guitar.
Maravilloso, sutil, bello sonido, un gran maestro, una expresión profunda sentimental, gran técnica.
Beautiful. Superior music. The influence of Montgomery and even Joe Pass is present. The best influence.
what class what blues music coming from the bowels of the body
and reaches up to the clouds

Yes, no doubt influenced by Wes Montgomery. I recognize this kind of tone and phrasing from Steve Howe, another great Wes fan.
Great jazz fantastic 👌👌😊🌺❤
So Clean!
So good to see my Boy, Ricky G. still doing his thing.
still love it!!
Did that dude just adjust the bridge height in the middle of a tune? Nice. Also, great playing of course!
Yeah!
Influenced by Benson, Wes and Burrell ..lotta down strokes at this age. Very musical cat.
Russell Malone is the greatest
He's fantastic. Where is "Lucille"? And the date?

does anybody know which guitar he is playing? thanks
Yeah.
Someone knows the name of the first song???
Too bad more recordings from Lucille's isn't on YT
🔥🔥
🙌🏾
Could anyone tell me what type of Ibanez archtop he plays on?
Looks like a L5 copy by Ibanez, from the late 1970s. There was some lawsuit over, these guitars being too close to Gibson.
…
Another 6 string maestro, gone too soon...
