- This first Carpenters A&M single was released minus the initial 30 instrumental seconds included on the track from their debut album “Offering” (later renamed “Ticket To Ride”). Also commonly available is their re-recorded version of the song, first appearing on the 1973 LP “The Singles: 1969-1973.”
Pop Chart Peaks: Billboard 54, Cash Box 78, Record World 86 - Easy Listening Peak: 19
NOTE: The BIG hits of 1970 are included in the new 1970 HITS ARCHIVE, currently being added-to on a daily basis over at my ‘AnotherProf’ UA-cam channel: / @anotherprof3408
Transferred from mono 45rpm single A&M 1142 - Ticket To Ride (Lennon-McCartney) by The Carpenters, arranged by Richard Carpenter, produced by Jack Daugherty
That incomparable voice----she was all of 19 y/o when this was recorded. Richard arranged, & played piano.-------MJL< 75 y/o
Karen is so pretty in the winter-themed filmed "video" of this song. The long, brunette fall they had her wear is phenomenal... almost as perfect as their version of "Ticket to Ride." Thanks!
This was their only 45 single released in mono because the rest of the 45 singles were released in stereo!!!!
For a 1970 release it escapes me why A&M would ever issue a *MONO* mix of a Carpenters song. Karen played drums on this version as well! It might have done better on easy listening (AC) stations if it was stereo. AFAIK this single mix was never issued in stereo, nor has the mono single version appeared on any album or CD since Karen re-recorded it for their first greatest hits comp.
Perhaps the rarest copies are those of the Columbia Pitman pressing plant, as seen on this clip. I have this one. Most are Monarch pressings, and a few here and there from the Columbia Terre Haute plant with label fonts from Santa Maria.
How in God's name did you come by your truly extraordinary knowledge of record pressings?! -- I really get a charge out of it. (I am NOT being sarcastic.)
@@Richard-ig4ou - a) It wasn't easy. b) With considerable difficulty, and years and years of considerable research and study.

* Isn't that always the way?! *
You put me in mind of the distinguished mathematician Shiing-Shen Chern, who -- when asked for advice -- would often reply, "Just keep working.".
Thanks for all your efforts -- and for sharing the fruits thereof!
All my best.
@@Richard-ig4ou - Shiing had it down pat. Some things just can't be explained.
Lyrics:
I think I’m gonna be sad
I think it’s today, yeah
The boy that’s driving me mad
Is going away
He’s got a ticket to ride
He’s got a ticket to ride
He’s got a ticket to ride
And he don’t care
He said that living with me
Was bringing him down, yeah
He would never be free
When I was around
He’s got a ticket to ride
He’s got a ticket to ride
He’s got a ticket to ride
And he don’t care
Don’t know why he’s riding so high
He ought to do right, he ought to do right by me
‘Fore he gets to saying goodbye
He ought to do right, he ought to do right by me
I think I’m gonna be sad
I think it’s today, yeah
The boy that’s driving me mad
Is going away
Oh, he’s got a ticket to ride
He’s got a ticket to ride
He’s got a ticket to ride
And he don’t care, don’t care
Think I’m gonna be sad
Think I’m gonna be sad
Think I’m gonna be sad
Think I’m gonna be sad
Think I’m gonna be sad
Think I’m gonna be sad
Way different version than the one on the LP.
