In 2024, her voice still brings tears to my eyes. I was a little boy listening to her on cassette tape. When I heard she died, I was a teen. I cried all evening. We miss you Karen. :(
I think of my mom when i hear Carpenters songs my mom was a extremely good singer and she sang all the time in the house when I was a young kid she died when I was 12
I was 20 years old. old when Karen passed. I read when she was anorexic, the damage that it caused to her heart was irreparable. It was all so very sad.
It’s 2024 and this still holds up so amazingly! What is it about older music that makes it so timeless and amazing no matter when you listen to it?! Karen’s voice is so uniquely her but so widely loved and appreciated and I think that is the mark of a true legend!

Born to sing..I gather she played good drums as well. I still can't believe how she carried a note further than anyone - and started the next so soon after. Easily the greatest singer I could ever hear. RIP Karen ❤
I just wish she could have gotten the help she needed. Now? We will never know what really happened. All we can do now is just appreciate the music she left to us, and she left much too soon.
This song brings me back to the 70s when I was just a young boy. All of my sisters and I were still living at home with my mom and dad. My dad worked in a refinery and my mom was a housewife. Dinner was always ready at 4:30pm. We’d watch “I Love Lucy” reruns on our small TV while we ate. Everyone I loved and cared about was still alive and healthy. Now, so many of the people in my life that meant so very much to me are gone. How I wish I could go back in time...but when I hear great music like this, I close my eyes, and all of those wonderful memories come rushing back into my mind.
im 20, but reading your story makes me teary, i can even imagine and feel the time when you were young. Ohh it makes me so sad, i hope you are still happy now, you must be old grandpa. we love you
Bella Sintia Thank you...I'm actually 56, but I feel young. All through life, people tell you how fast time flies, but I honestly didn't start feeling it until I turned 50. Now it seems like the years are just flying by!! Enjoy life with every fiber of your being!!
Love the reference to the Expose song in your comment...I believe I read Jeanette Jurado (lead on the record) said the Carpenters were one of her two favorites, which makes it and them even cooler.
I recently had my 74th birthday also. I had the honor and pleasure to go to a carpenters concert in the early seventys in Syracuse ny. Karen carpenter will always be a favorite and never be forgotten. It breaks my heart for Karen not to have a longer life. Her death made me and I'm sure many, many people appreciated her beautiful voice and talent. Every time I listen to her sing a song it makes me happy I had a chance to listen and watch her perform. She had a God given gift that will be heard for generations to come. She will always be in my heart and never forgotten. God bless. 3:31 ❤ 3:31
Me I'm a 62yr old black woman who grew up listening to the carpenters i always go back to the songs and just sit and listen and cry. She could sing her behind off.❤❤❤❤😢
I’m with you we’re the same age even when I was a little boy who didn’t understand music like I do now I knew her voice was special and now I know why she will always have my heart thank you
I know what what you mean. I'm 61 but first heard this when I was 8 while dreaming. I had a little radio. I dreamed of seeing this older girl walking around in circles looking sad. Every time I hear this song I see her face and it haunts me. Earlier this year I wrote a love song for this dream girl called Sad Girl.
No one who has ever heard Karen Carpenter could ever forget her, something eternal about her voice, you can feel her soul right in it. What an incredible gift.
@@lindadees3887 And me, I've got a couple of years on you but I can only take a few minutes of listening to this beautiful lady, before there's a full scale fold up. RIP Karen your voice just echoes through eternity.
Karen’s voice brings tears to my eyes, partly because of the absolutely perfect pitch of her contralto, but also because she left this world a month short of her 33rd birthday. Gone too soon and undoubtedly robbed us of some more beautiful music that would have been created between her and brother Richard. Reminds us that we take people in our lives too much for granted. RIP Karen!
It's not just the clarity and trueness of her voice. Her voice often catches in her throat, when you hear it, you feel like it tears at your very soul. You really can hear her suffering when she sings.
Im a 63 year old black hip hop head from Harlem/Bronx NYC, but can't front on the Carpenters they will always be one of my favorite singer songwriter duos
60s, 70s, rock, hard rock, metal, biker dude, white boy from Anaheim….music is the language that brings us all together - it cannot be denied and neither can brotherhood
She passed in my sophomore year of high school, who would have thought she would have such an huge impact. At the same time I had a younger cousin dealing with the same disease that no one talked about, she battled it for years. She's been well 20 years and we have all healed from the experience, it's so emotional and that is how her music makes you feel!
She had what I consider the best female singing voice of all time. So clear and pure sounding. I've loved her voice since I was a kid when these songs came out. Absolutely beautiful.
She had a great voice but there were many who not only matched her voice but surpassed it! Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon to name a couple who matched it! Janis Joplin surpassed her voice!!
A haunting voice that was almost disarming when injected into such a schmaltzy, over produced pop formula. Her brother didn't do her any favors and I think she would have been better off on her own.
I do. I drive at night for a living. At least once a week, I switch over and start listening to her. Such a beautiful voice, along with such a beautiful woman that was.
Hearing top of the world when I was 4 years old in 1970 gave me a feeling inside that I'll never forget, I remember looking at mum and dad and wondering why they seemed to be unaffected. Karen's voice still gives me goosebumps and brings a tear to my eye in 2022.
I was born in 1970 so Carpenters was always on in the background when I was very young-even though my parents weren’t musical, and I was too young to know who was singing. My parents didn’t even own a record player and didn’t buy records, although they bought a kids’ record player and lots of Disney records and soundtracks for us kids. So I never had a Carpenters record. But Sing a Song reminds me of nursery school and I have no idea why. All you get from love is a love song reminds me of summer car trips. It was just there and I’m sorry to say that I didn’t know who they were when she died. I first became aware of Close to You and For All We Know in High School in the mid 80s and then I understood who the Carpenters were. I taped those two songs off the radio for my mix tapes!
One of the most famous and recognizable contralto voices ever to record! Karen Carpenter is an icon, and her magnificent vocals will live on forever in the Carpenters ' music. R.I.P.
It makes you wonder why anyone would take voice lessons after hearing her sing. "Rainy Days and Mondays,"" Close To You, "" We've Only Just Begun, "" Bless the Beasts and the Children, "" Solitaire." Nobody should ever attempt to sing those songs after Karen Carpenter.
I close my eyes and go right back to being in my parents living room. Just a kid and not a care in the world. My dad loved the Carpenters. Their music is the soundtrack of my early life. My dad died 4 years ago, but I still feel his presence when I listen to the music he loved back then. Makes me sad and smile at the same time. She had such a beautifully haunting voice. I hope dad had a jam session with her in heaven. May God rest their souls. ❤️
When you are doing the simple things in life, like hanging out at home with your siblings, or parents, eating dinner, listening to a song in the background, people rarely appreciate these moments until they are gone. This is what they mean by living in the moment, and appreciating life, because one day you look up and 40 or 50 years have passed. The sad thing is you can never go back and relive those times with those same people in the same way.
As a professional recording artist...writer...arranger and pianist...this IS quite possibly the FINEST female voice ever to be recorded in the industry....all these years later...she IS STILL relevant as is Richard..
@@FieldofDreamsIowa agreed. karen was the ULTIMATE female "crooner" who sang TO YOU NOT AT YOU, this is a huge monumental difference separating her from the rest during her heyday and since up to today's singers.. she also was the ultimate storyteller of every song. today's singers? they sing every song the same way no matter what the song is about and of course they sing loud and then louder and that is considered talent and the measure of a great singer/voice??! i don't think so!... karen's voice was the purest, most intimate, moving, touching, haunting voice i have ever heard, also she had the most perfect diction and enunciation of any voice male or female i have ever heard.. ultimate female singer of romance and love songs, looking for love, finding love and losing love...
Exactly! I have listened to the Carpenters since the early 70's and have never stopped. The Carpenters are who taught me how to sing every harmony part, and I learned Piano because of Richard, and write my own songs. Karen's voice was SO pure, simple, beautiful. And that's what made her so amazing. There will never be another Karen Carpenter. The singers, of today, all sound the same; nasal, scat a song to death, obnoxious, diva behavior, with voices that need a lot of Digital pitch correction and vibrato. Like I said.....Karen was the last of perfection. I miss her.
Unfortunately, the record label and her brother Richard forced her to come out from behind the drums in later years because they felt that she needed to be seen as the female lead singer of the group. She was so uncomfortable at the front of the stage and it contributed to her self doubt and poor self image (combined with a plethora of other things like the pressure to maintain a certain unhealthy weight, rumours of an incestuous relationship between her and her brother, not to mention constant putdowns from her mother, and her brother being the golden child, etc.). Poor Karen dealt with a lot of demons throughout her life and it's so tragic what happened to her. Like many artists, the world just chewed her up and spit her back out.
Even though she is seen playing the drums here, almost all of their recordings, including this one, are actually Hal Blaine playing. She was a good drummer, but Blaine was the go-to drummer for studio recordings at that time.
Richard did not force her out front. He was fine with her behind the drums and preferred here there. It was the record label. The lifetime movie was not 100% accurate.
@@martcichocki5571 Absolutely, I totally agree, but Whitney Houston had magnificent vocals as well. I didn't care for the music but her voice was powerful. RIP Karen and Whitney.
Can I just point out all the wonderful comments here? All these years later, Karen and her beautiful voice can still reach people in such personal ways. Thank you Karen, for the ability to put a smile on our faces, and a tear in our eyes. God bless.
BETTER !! but my 9 year old could of come up with that one, or even a 3 year old !! i guess there's no substitute for intelligence. and again STOP using quotes from others just because your mama says it to you . keep trying!! i apploud your tenacity... LA HOO ZER HER ....... L.O..S.E.R !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I cant get over how effortlessly she sings, and how rich her tone is, and of course she's always in tune... amazing. I used to hear her when I was a kid, and thought the same things then as now.
I'm a 16-year-old English, Scottish, Welsh, French, polish man. I heard their songs 10 years ago on me mams cd. It was one of the happiest ive ever been In my life. whenever I want to return to my happy place I stream this banger.
I started all their songs on 8 Track for my daughter to go to sleep . She is now 45 and I still listen to their albums and I love it then … still love it now! ❤️❤️❤️Millie in England now reside in Long Beach.
I was 10...1974ish..my dad with the best of the carpenter's 8 track in his olds 88...i grew up metal...but never forgot her voice...im approaching 60....and just love it
One of those rare singers who made singing look absolutely effortless - she simply opened her mouth and out came that incredible, clear voice. Taken far too soon from this world.
I know you're saying this in a playful way. It sounds masochistic. I used to be part of that crowd, lots of pain in my life drew me to that intense music. So I could be off but letting yourself re-live the pain then be comforted by a soothing soul. I feel for you. We aren't random or here for no reason.
The Carpenters were such a huge part of my childhood, even though I am only 33. My father (also named Richard) was a huge fan of theirs and introduced us to their music. This song in particular makes me overcome with emotion. I lost my father 12 years ago and it honestly doesn't get any easier. I miss him every single day. Karen Carpenter had a voice of an angel, it honestly transcends time.
indeed, as you say, "it just doesn't get any easier. I miss him every single day" and i do miss my own beloved Father whose attributes & values i am so very proud to carry on after his life's excellent example.
I am 21 years old and just discovered Carpenters a few months ago. I played their song "I won't last a day without You" accidentally , well what a surprise I actually loved it. Now I cannot stop listening to them (Obsessed with the lead vocal singer's voice)and the lyrics are so meaningful. Karen's voice is phenomenal , I have never heard a singer with such a voice. From the comment I've seen here on UA-cam, people say she passed away many years ago, what a loss. I wish music like this comes back again, music nowadays is non-sense.
I would just encourage everyone who doesn't like " music nowadays" to do everything we can to support those who are creating new songs we DO like. They are out there ! Maybe not ones who can hold a candle to Karen/ the Carpenters of course, but good in their own right. In every genre, they're out there ! Attend local music events, look online, ask social media friends to share new music of timeless or classic quality, with you. For example, I like a Russian-American artist named Simon Khorolskiy, a few of his songa he's written himself ( he covers many older ones ). While I can't "get into" all of his songs, there's many I absolutely love, even though not all of those are in English ( and I speak very, very little Russian ). Very unique artist, to this 42 yr. old American anyways, and while I like a lot of other genres and types within them, his music & videos are awesome.
A voz dela é linda, mas nós remete a uma melancolia de doer, contudo sou fã desde sempre! Sua morte foi estúpida! Caramba ela morreu de Anorexia, uma tristeza!♥️🙏🏾😭
What we might think as simple is far from. Richard's arrangements and the overdubbing or stacked harmonies and Karen' amazing voice make this so the complete and wholesome experience. It is both Richard and Karen making this come together. I miss her everyday I think of great music and times where there were no vulgar words and no one was trying to hurt the other. Yes the 70s and The Carpenters where that time made no sense, and thank God their music so much did. We needed The Carpenters.
I was a child in the 70's. We took the Carpenters for granted. This was just everyday music on the radio. Only now in my mid 50's do I truly appreciate the beauty and rarity of Karen's voice.
They certainly don't sing like this, or play music like this anymore. WHY? Doesn't anyone in the recording industry realize the Emperor has no threads?
Marry Ann Syers, I was just thinking the same thing in my late forties. These songs, (in particular Karen's voice) magically transports me back to such a wonderful time in my childhood. Memories of lazy afternoons spent in company of family, that I probably took for granted back then. That warm soothing sound of Karen's voice is like a golden ray of sunshine chasing all the clouds away.
Karen Carpenter is underrated. She’s one of the best female vocalists to me. She’s a perfect contralto with a beautiful, soulful, and warm tone. Her low notes & control are divine.
Beth Meyers Yeah, her voice is just so magical, I really love it, It's such a shame that some people didn't know what pure talent is. Their music deserves a billion likes.
Karen Carpenter soothes my soul. I grew up on Classic R&B and soul, and I will say Karen Carpenter’s voice is a national treasure for all generations. Her brother a prodigy, his musical talent shouldn’t be denied either. He handled the arrangements, the way he stacked vocals- it’s melodic and just absolutely beautiful. Great music reaches across time and genre and evokes emotion- that’s what the Carpenters do. 💫👌🏽
Karen could pull you into her world when she sung. Today's singers can't touch her! When someone can make me shed a few tears, then you know it touches that emotional cord. RIP to my #1 female POP vocalist of all time!!!! I'm 69 years old here in January of 2022, and I'm still listening to this angel!
Yes arnt we blessed to grow up and be enriched in all that brilliant talent of artists. From rock, country and motown to start with. Yet we are blessed today that there still is one artist that is able to blast them out, Sir Tom Jones.
2023... Still listening... My mom LOVED The Carpenters... I live and breathe to hear them... They bring my mom back to me! She passed away in Jan of 2021. I will NEVER be the same!
My Mom's gone too ...One day back in 1970-71 around there I was 8-9 in the ladies department at JCPENNEY in Stonewood Shopping center all of a sudden Mom got this huge smile on her face...look Eric there's Karen Carpenter! I'll never forget that, my Mom's smile! I remember Richard and Karen driving by my house in their Carpenters Van .... Richard always drove and Karen would always have her feet up on the dash and wave at us on our bicycles! She had really big hands for such a small person. They obviously knew someone in my neighborhood...but I don't know who! In Downey... Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school California USA ♥️🇺🇲@@likescountry114
Out of curiosity as a 11 year old kid going through my mom’s CD collection and discovered one of the greatest duo ever lived. Still listens to them as a 33 year old today.
I am a longtime heavy metal guitarist and I have always told all my bandmates, friends, drinking buddies and associates that there is nothing more beautiful than Karen Carpenters voice,.. sunsets, kittens,..models,.paintings,statues,you name it...Karen Carpenters Voice is the most beautiful thing EVER
One time, Karen and a friend of hers were walking into a restaurant when John Lennon walked out. He walked up to her and said, "I just want to tell you, you have a beautiful voice, Love." And Karen herself was shocked.
Today´s radio music not very good. The Carpenters beautiful arrangements, perfect vocals & harmonies/melodies and the injection of instruments like harmonica in this song suggests that the music is well thought out.
It's just so incredibly sad. She had all of this talent, a truly gifted singer, and yet she carried all of that darkness and pain hidden away inside her.
What's so amazing is that this was her REAL voice. No "pitch perfect" machines, no reverb, no tricks. Such an unbelievably rich sound. Surreal, and yet very real.
Hauntingly beautiful........I was lucky enough to enjoy as a teenager, My sister and I would sing their songs at talent shows........Taken way to early...Never heard ANYONE that was ALWAYS on key and without autotune, "ears" and all the technology they have now..........PURE SINGING TALENT, Unsurpassed, imho
She was truly amazing. She had a voice that everyone classes as one of the greatest of the twentieth century; yet she was amazingly fragile. I think that fragility informed her music. It's why we love her; it's why so many people call her an angel.
+Daniel Gunter I agree. Karen, patsy Cline, Ann Wilson, Alison Krause in my mind. What is spooky is how each voice would sing right to the very core of your soul.
Amazing how all these years that she has passed away the year of 2020 people still listening to her beautiful voice I am 58 years old miss misic like this.

It’s 2021. I’m 6’5” 250 pounds. Long hair, hard rock singer, beer, USA motorcycle fan, Tatoos. Currently wearing a fanged skull in flames shirt. Karen’s beautiful singing makes me tear up every time. She had the perfect voice. Flawless. There was only one. Brilliant. Great drummer, one of the best vocalists of all time. Completely trained by her own ear alone. Such a catastrophic loss all these years later. Innocent & fragile, destroyed by the press at such a young age. A single article drove her insecurities, and she ended up anorexic. So damn sad. I love and miss her so much.
I'm the same way tall big and strong, but this song just breaks my heart, when you are going through something you can't hide it, I struggle every day, hang in there big guy
She had no self love thought she was ugly couldnt get a boyfriend she was as sad as most of her songs that's what killed her so sad with a voice like that but yu can hear her sadness when she sang these songs
I'm a 70-year-old Japanese man. I heard their songs 52 years ago at their first concert in Japan. It was one of the happiest events in my life. 😍😍😍

Such nostalgic piece of time in my childhood I remember her being so happy. Tragic for the world
More emotion in that voice than all the recent grammy winners combined.

This came from a time when there still seemed to be a little magic in the air...
It's the poetry behind it. The love.. There is love in older music that is rare in this generation.
Some songs never get old. They just age like a fine wine. This is one of those songs. Thank you, Karen, for such a lovely masterpiece.
Hopefully she’s resting in the arms of Jesus 🙏🏾

That is why all performers are Eunuchs or intersex because the combination of male and female creates spectacular voices.

67 years old and still singing with my girl. She filled in the empty spaces of my heart as a heart broken teenager.
Hi Sandra 💐💐💐
Me too
@@lindadees3887 And me, I've got a couple of years on you but I can only take a few minutes of listening to this beautiful lady, before there's a full scale fold up. RIP Karen your voice just echoes through eternity.
Sandra, igual yo. A mis 66 años la sigo. Desde el cielo ella nos canta
Yes Sandra she such a beautiful voice listening to her always brings back good memories.
RIP Karen!
She was a beautiful woman
Karen is awesome
Karen, her voice is unique
If course she does - that voice has beauty and depth !
It's not just the clarity and trueness of her voice. Her voice often catches in her throat, when you hear it, you feel like it tears at your very soul. You really can hear her suffering when she sings.
They will still be listening in 2074. Pure class doesn’t age
Her voice is timeless. No-one has matched her voice since.
i totally agree!!!
And nobody ever Will imo
Agreed. No one has rivalled the crystal - clear purity and heavenly melody in Karen's voice.
Some people don’t understand how amazing she is. Talk about perfect pitch. She’s like her own instrument that can’t be replicated
I think it's a gift, it can't be learned.
I just love listening 🎶 to her,💖❤
Van Hendriks you are so right She is amazing
Some people like you don't understand how amazing are people who write and compose, not those who sing it.
I wish we could all go back and tell her!
Im a 63 year old black hip hop head from Harlem/Bronx NYC, but can't front on the Carpenters they will always be one of my favorite singer songwriter duos
That voice is just perfect, isn’t it?
Lol, I'm a metal head from Boston, MA. I love 70's soft rock. That and Wu Tang clan. we all have our guilty pleasures! It brings us together.

Oh yes!!! RIP Karen42 years ago February 4, 1983! A sad day for the music industry & for those who loved her❤️🙏🏼
How can you not love this woman? The unassuming musical phenomenon with the voice of an angel...playing the drums.❤
Oh ya
You take mine I am taking yours you will see
You have posted the exact sentiment I was about to say!! We love you Karen Carpenter❤️... still 😇🥰
She brought me joy!!
She was talented on the drums as well. She also seemed like a genuinely nice woman. She never deserved what happened to her.
I cannot listen to her sing without getting teary eyed, her voice touches your soul.
Me too. This song and Merry Christmas Darling. Get misty knowing how unhappy she was and not accepted for who she was by her Mom. So sad.
I cry every time I hear this one. Reminds me of the past and plus she has such an angelic voice it just chokes me up.
So does, she was so beautiful inside and out. We love her songs.
Me. I started liking her songs when I was in 2nd grade. Now I'm 42 and she's still my first favorite female artist 💖
She had what I consider the best female singing voice of all time. So clear and pure sounding. I've loved her voice since I was a kid when these songs came out. Absolutely beautiful.
And those were the days before computer assisted dubbing. Absolutely stunning voice.
Sou português, nasci em 1960, entendo pouco da língua inglesa... Mas sempre que ouço a karen, o meu coração fica maravilhado... Fascínios da alma.
No more voice like this😢
Her, Bonnie Raitt, and Linda Ronstadt. ❤❤❤
Karen was without doubt one of the greatest however I have to put Linda Ronstadt on top as the dreamiest female voice 🙂
Karen Carpenter's voice is unmatched.
She had a great voice but there were many who not only matched her voice but surpassed it! Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon to name a couple who matched it! Janis Joplin surpassed her voice!!
@@jennbrewster3912 No way. Karen was the best!
You need to listen to @lizrosesings
She was happiest behind that drum kit, it all went sideways when they put her front and center.
@@jennbrewster3912 Nice comment, have a great day!
Maybe the purest singing voice of all time. It was such a tragedy to lose her.
No show-offiness; no gimmicks; great communicator
A haunting voice that was almost disarming when injected into such a schmaltzy, over produced pop formula. Her brother didn't do her any favors and I think she would have been better off on her own.
No maybe about it . . she was the best!
I still miss her
Such a sad lose. Totally agree with you.
I'm almost in tears & it's 2021. This woman's voice is TIMELESS!
feeling incredibly blessed to have grown up to this music....

I do. I drive at night for a living. At least once a week, I switch over and start listening to her. Such a beautiful voice, along with such a beautiful woman that was.
Sad she didn’t see that herself.
👍
I Never Go To Bed Until I Hear Karen Sing, It's Like She's Helping To Go To Sleep

Tragic the way she died her brother should be ashamed of himself
Her voice is like a beautiful sunset on the last day of a perfect vacation.
Totally
thank you for saying that . ❤️
Listened to her songs when I was a little girl. My mom listened to them..takes me back and makes me feel safe. Her beautiful voice man!! RIP.
Hey> Teach your kids well. Eat! ! ok super sorry for that!
When the Angels Sing Karen Carpenter is leading the choir.
That was beautiful, if you are a mom Happy Mothers Day to you❤🙏🏾
Hearing top of the world when I was 4 years old in 1970 gave me a feeling inside that I'll never forget, I remember looking at mum and dad and wondering why they seemed to be unaffected.
I’m glad I grew up with this music. I’m 58 now but this makes me feel like a kid again. A true angel she was RIP Karen

Me too, we were blessed. I have 5 years on you.
The most beautiful voice ever recorded. Unmatched to this day and she left us too early !
Your music still give me chills
Karen Carpenter and Whitney were just born with it 🎶🎵💖💕❤️Angelic Voices 💕 Miss them so much🌹
Voice of an angel.
theres one more teresa teng one of the best singers of the 20th century
The sweet pain of happy memories... I feel ya, Sis
Loved her voice
What a blessed memory you have of your father. I lost my dad before I really got to know him.
Emocionante
Ouvi na minha juventude aqui no Brasil

She became an angel far too early...

As a professional recording artist...writer...arranger and pianist...this IS quite possibly the FINEST female voice ever to be recorded in the industry....all these years later...she IS STILL relevant as is Richard..
I've said that for decades, Xavier. In my mind, the finest female singing voice of all time.
no need for autotune when you have an actual beautiful voice.
I think you're right. There is really no other female voice which seriously compares.
@@scottalbers2518 No there is not...my friend...she was VERY special..
Every time I hear this song it takes me back to the good old days! Only us 70's kids can really appreciate it.
Best years in the history of the planet
I feel really nostalgic listening to her of days gone by. I was saddened when she passed. 😕🌈
Us 60's kids as well. 😁
I miss her.
Us 50’s kids too!
I'm a grown-ass man and this song makes be bawl my eyes out every time I hear it. Beautiful.
Jesus is to sinners, as Karen Carpenter is to tough guys.
Me too my friend.. You could almost see her hurt when she sang this song.
And there's me thinking I was the only one 🥲
Make that 5 here . 53 now I was around 8 but have the memories.
I am 80 now, when I hear this song. PRICELESS.
Lead singer and playing the drums at the same time. She was brilliant.
❤️😇 1/20/20
@Dbo83 Grand Funks lead singer plays the drums Also.
Richard did not force her out front. He was fine with her behind the drums and preferred here there. It was the record label. The lifetime movie was not 100% accurate.
She had the coolest tone ever, and enunciated every word, her death was a loss to music lovers.
right
Only comparable to the Gibb Brothers death
In my humble opinion the best female vocalist of all time! her enunciation, her clarity, just outstanding!
@@martcichocki5571 Absolutely, I totally agree, but Whitney Houston had magnificent vocals as well. I didn't care for the music but her voice was powerful. RIP Karen and Whitney.
Yes, that tone. Vibrato and exaggeration in the right places. The weeping, sliding up on the notes quality
Can I just point out all the wonderful comments here? All these years later, Karen and her beautiful voice can still reach people in such personal ways. Thank you Karen, for the ability to put a smile on our faces, and a tear in our eyes. God bless.

You,ve got good taste in music , mate . Thanks
Nice to hear a young person listen to this and enjoy it..i was 11 when the carpenters came out..

You are so right .. God-bless you, happy Thanksgiving, God-bless Karen. I listen to her all the time.💖🤘❤💚💗🧡
I was a child in the 70's.
Amen

Spot on mate.
One time, Karen and a friend of hers were walking into a restaurant when John Lennon walked out. He walked up to her and said, "I just want to tell you, you have a beautiful voice, Love." And Karen herself was shocked.
At age 72, I listen to the Carpenters every single day.
I’m 72 also my friend and I can only listen to the Carpenters occasionally because Karen makes me very emotional.
Igual yo a los 70 años recuerdos vienen a mi mente que me ponen muy nostálgico.

I’m so honored to look like her.
This is the definition of TALENT. No bs, just good music.
Something the music industry lacks today.
Today´s radio music not very good. The Carpenters beautiful arrangements, perfect vocals & harmonies/melodies and the injection of instruments
like harmonica in this song suggests that the music
is well thought out.
It's just so incredibly sad. She had all of this talent, a truly gifted singer, and yet she carried all of that darkness and pain hidden away inside her.
After 50 years still the carpenters touches a special place in my heart with her iconic voice!
Timeless
What's so amazing is that this was her REAL voice. No "pitch perfect" machines, no reverb, no tricks. Such an unbelievably rich sound. Surreal, and yet very real.

There'es plenty of reverb on her voice in this track though...

Monday here. Cold and rainy and still missing Karen after several decades. Came of age to her singing, a salve on my soul then and now. Loved her.
She was truly amazing. She had a voice that everyone classes as one of the greatest of the twentieth century; yet she was amazingly fragile. I think that fragility informed her music. It's why we love her; it's why so many people call her an angel.

It’s like an allergic reaction for me...I hear Karen’s voice and I automatically have severely watery eyes. IDK why 🤷♀️
Richard Fulmer i am no 52 and had hrr lps in the 70s as a kid - what a talent, how lucky/blessed are we to have heard her!
Never get tired of listening to this song until now since my childhood days. Simply love the Carpenters.
The voice of an angel. Her talent is greatly missed.
Walsh...I was just thinking to myself...She had the voice of an Angel... So unmistakable....she is surely missed! Eric Underwood class of 81 Downey High School California
Paul McCartney said she had "the best female voice in the world: melodic, tuneful, distinctive." Have to agree.
John Lennon was also a fan of her voice.
The Bee Gees were impressed by the Carpenters' harmonies too...@@denisej4813
She had a lovely voice, only singer ever know to have had a "Pitch Perfect" voice. Gone to soon, like so many others.
here was right!!!!
I wish Paul sang a duet with her...Back when...
And I thought I was the only one...
Amen brother...
I agree.. In a league of her own🎶🎶💯
She had no self love thought she was ugly couldnt get a boyfriend she was as sad as most of her songs that's what killed her so sad with a voice like that but yu can hear her sadness when she sang these songs
Her voice was simply amazing! So steady and clear. No voice similar to hers. 🌷
I will always listen to this beautiful woman. Her voice is perfection. Gives me chills
I really hope the Carpenters aren't forgotten in the future...
Never
Karen also is a drummer
Never....
@@pamelagreenlee6134 mhm, the Carpenters really do deserve more fame.
As long as we care for good music... she will be remembered.
Well so many years have gone already....there has still not been a voice to compare to Karen....possibly never will .....
Her voice goes straight to my soul.
It does................
It sure does 👌🏻
It absolutely does.
It certainly does
One of the most beautiful voices of all time. RIP Karen Carpenter. Thank you for sharing your gift with us.
Her voice is like honey; so pure, sweet and smooth.
Sent from heaven.. Rach!
Accurately described.
