Man, that's an excellent job! Can you tell me how long you waited in between the epoxy, the polyester, and the last epoxy coats? Did you wait for the polyester to shrink? Thanks!
Thanks mate!! Been a good while since I did this one, but we're Novol through and through so know everything we put on is compatible with the next stages! 4 hours minimum after first epoxy and before poly. Nope! Well, not intentionally... one of the great things about poly is, unlike high build, it doesn't shrink! Was probably left a couple of days, just because we would have been busy doing other jobs inbetween. Then isolator epoxy is a wet on wet, so would have just been 15 minutes flash then straight on with the high build. Hope that helps!
Amazing finish, what grade paper did you use before flow coating, is it a matter if blocking the car, then clean with panel wipe and spray three coats of gloss again
Before you sprayed the epoxy looks like there were a fair few lumps of filler added - Did you just 80 grit the grp and guide coat on top of gelcoat or just feel it and fill?
No filler before epoxy Kevin. The epoxy is the very first layer and the foundation to everything that comes after. Was 180 DA'd and back to gelcoat where necessary before epoxy 😊 got another cobra video coming shortly which will go more into depth as far as the process goes 😊
im about to start fairing and rubbing down the fibreglass body of my cobra kit (FFR). I dont think I'll be doing the paint work myself. When i see what work goes into a great job like this, I think I'll get a pro to do it...but my question (if someone can answer me)...what would I expect to pay for a job like this?
Hi Simon, I've only just seen this comment for some reason, apologies! If you'd like to pop me a quick message on Facebook (search JM Details) I'll be more than happy to let you know! Rather not post publicly
Its a replica, and its in the UK ..... where Ford FEs are rare (I know, I've got one), and there is a lot of LS expertise. why not complain about wrong material for the body, wrong size wheels, wrong size scoop, yadda yadda.....
@@kevinwells768 While an FE would be nice and definitely costly, it doesn't necessarily have to be in FE in order to be what's considered a correct engine, Ford engine would suffice as "correct". BUT, will say again, I would build MY car the way I preferred, so, understand everyone else for doing the same.
Those side marker lights coming out of the gills must be necessary to pass your MOT. They look just awful, is there high risk of penalty if you remove them? Here in LaLa Land I don't use the front license plate on my Cobra and I don't have backup lights. No issues.
They are side repeaters for the indicators (turn signals) and yes they are necessary for the MOT and road safety, although I notice they weren't refitted here after the paint? Licence plates front and rear are mandatory in the UK.
Great video. Would love to hear your commentary instead of the horrendous music. The only problem I see going forward is that you'll be 50 metres away from the car, see a fly, and be worried that he's going to land on it and leave a spot ! 😉
Very limited with the music choice, I've only got a very cheap editing tool currently, I only do these videos for fun from time to time! Will bear the commentary in mind for future!
Lovely
Thank you, very much appreciated!
Great job ! 😍 👍
Thank you, very much appreciated!
Nice work especially doing it on your own 💪
She's a Beauty 😎😎
Good work shame about customer's choice of colours doesn't pop nearly enough for a cobra
Each to their own though isnt it! We always say, it's one of the very most important parts of the job, and all comes down to personal preference 🙂

Appreciated 😊 500da before flowcoat on this one, and yes, panels wipe, tack and antistat as usual then straight on with your preferred clear

@@jmdetails Many thanks for the reply. Look forward to seeing the new vid as I am planning to follow your process in the summer.

Also would like to know what brand and line each product used is. Grade of sandpaper, etc.
Wet line, Novol start to finish, without exception. Dry, multiple! I'll see about adding more detail in my next video 👍
Put a Ford motor in it
I'm just the bodywork man, engine is up to the customer! 😊
Why go to all that trouble and saddle it with the wrong engine?
While I'm the 1st one to say it's your car and you can build it the way you want, I'm right there with you to say it it needs a correct engine.

They were never fitted correctly to this one, purely to pass the iva and mot! Customer asked me to leave them behind the grille...
Beautiful car, and first rate work, but what the h*ll are those bumper-type things front and back??????
Quick jacks! Fitted as per customers request but more for visual purposes in this one 😊
@@jmdetails Yep as fitted to the Race cars😁😁

Lost me at LS powered.
I'm just the bodywork guy! 😂
Paintwork is excellent. Colour not my taste. Engine bay looks like a rats ass.
It's since had some custom made engine covers go on there and a fair bit of part relocation to tidy things up 😊
