      - I understand personally, but at the same time you can't blame the bystanders because they don't know the apartment complex and by the time they call or even run up for the children it would be too late... Second Phylicia could have rescued the children on the same floor since she's the landlord by opening the door with the keys or bust through the door harder.

This scene is very powerful. It shows how sick things can get when you tolerate abuse. Abused women tend to believe they can prevent or improve things by being kind enough, patient enough, understanding enough, never realizing they cannot change an abusive man, that staying escalates abuse. Sadly it took this horrifying event to shake her enough to get her out of the spiral.

Face Reality man you people on the internet are something else...
I don’t get how you conjure up the courage to be nasty after simply reading someone’s comment and assuming you know exactly the type of person they are.
I don’t ever recall saying i wouldn’t want to save the kids, what I’m saying is that whether you want to accept it or not. State of shock is real thing and you have no idea how to comprehend it until you actually experience and fortunately you may never experience it. It is absolutely a real thing. You think people wake up and decide I’m gonna watch and let some terrible happen today? People have seen their parents murdered, slit their own wrist etc and have stood there in shock. Some people have psychotic breaks and are never the same for the rest of their life. So no, I refuse to live in a bubble where I condemn those I refuse to understand.
I will say I found the scene a little unrealistic that not one person tried to catch the children. The odds there don’t quite make sense.

Maya Angelou always said : “When people tell you who they are, believe them.”
No one wakes up abusive and crazy out of the blue.... the signs are always there, and usually obvious.
We all must do a better job and simply walking away from people the MOMENT our intuition tells us that something is wrong with them. And then realizing that it’s not your responsibility to “fix” them.
Ladies, you can’t fix a crazy, abusive grown ass man.

I can't believe that people still can't get over this scene even though 5 years have passed since this movie was released. I love Tyler Perry and this is an excellent movie, but this scene was so disturbing and horrific (the actors who played the kids, Thomas 'Deuce' Jessup and Jaycee Williams, were terrific, although I don't know how old they were when they were in the movie). However (and to put some of the minds at ease), I was watching a behind-the-scenes documentary on tv (which is not on the DVD, although I wish it was) about this movie and for this scene, the parents of these 2 beautiful kids were on the set and were really horrified and worried about Michael Ealy dropping them out of the window. At 1:56, this was a green screen effect (I could be wrong though). Tyler had the kids on harnesses and when Michael released them, they were actually swinging on the harnesses.

To everyone griping about how no one tried to help catch those kids, lemme explain why that wouldn't work:
    1. There was a spiked fence so no one would've been able to get directly under the window.
    2. Even if the bystanders had the time to grab a bedsheet and gather everyone to hold that sheet taut, any weighty object falling over 3 stories would've torn through. There's specialized sheets for that but no one had access to that kind of thing. They would've needed to call the fire department the very second those kids were dangled out the window.
    3. Just because we saw the kicked window screen landed outside of the fence doesn't mean the kids would've landed there. The window screen is hundreds of ounces lighter and has less mass than those kids. The air current created by the fall could've landed the window screen ANYWHERE.
    4. While on the subject of mass/weight, let's talk about free falling. You've heard the saying "The heavier they are, the harder they fall, right? This is correct and it's based off of Newton's Law if Motion. The "heavier" is concerning weight, and the "harder they fall" bit is talking about impact force.
A person that weighs 200lbs and falls six feet would hit the ground with the impact force of 10,000lbs.
    SIX FEET.
    LET THAT SINK IN.
    5. With the above in mind, let's get into the numbers. The apartment window seems to be at a height of 50 feet. The daughter seems to be around 5 or 6 years old, and her brother seems to be around 3 or 4 years old. The average weight for a 3-year-old is 32lbs. The average weight for a 5-year-old is 40lbs.
Using the average weight, if the 3-year-old falls from 50 feet, the fall velocity will be at 70mph. The impact force hitting the ground at that speed is 177.7kN (kilonewtons). Translated in English, the impact force would be equivalent to *39,928LBS.*
    *THAT'S 19.96 US TONS.*
If the 5-year-old fell from 50 feet, the impact force would be *222kN.* English translation again?
*THAT'S HITTING THE GROUND WITH 49,910LBS OR 24.96 TONS OF FORCE.*
Yup. Ain't NOBODY catching those kids.
I don't think I need to tell you how catastrophic it would've been to catch the children barehanded. You might as well let a Mack truck hit you head on in the freeway for it's pretty much the same thing. Your body isn't a trampoline and it would not have withstood those high impact forces. It's also likely that the kids would've died anyway with you catching them, for your body would crumple being hit with those forces and they'd STILL hit the ground.

    • @joeheller7581

Thank you for this information. I think the reason why this scene is so upsetting, is because the people were just stood watching, they wouldn’t have known that they’d die catching the babies. Did no one’s instinct tell them, to go save the children?

    • @Brinah
      @Brinah 3 місяці тому +3

You’re correct; I watched the documentary called “The Bridge” about the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge suicides. When you described the velocity of falling from great distance, it’s the same speed from the bridge, except when you land in the water, it’s like hitting concrete.

He had PTSD from being in war. This scene was extremely powerful and worst stuff like this happens in real life. She should not have stayed in the abusive relationship knowing he was only getting worse. especially for the kids safety. Tuly devastating and unfortunate

While this part of the movie breaks my heart. No one seems to understand that Beau suffers from PTSD from the war. He doesn't get the help he needs and ends up totally abusive. He'll probably end up committing suicide in jail. It's hard to put the horrors of war behind you. Most veterans end up committing suicide because they know their head is messed up and they can't deal with the horrors they have seen or may have committed. Doesn't make what he did right. Just wanted people to understand where the abuse is coming from in this situation. She should have left him a long time ago.

This was the point in the film that my professor couldn't stomach. He legitimately paused it before they got dropped and asked to turn the lights on It's gut wrenching, brutal, and tears the heartstrings of old parents apart, those who would never dream of putting their child's life in jeaprody.
It's something that the choreopoem only graces over in its brutality, we never read the derrangement of Beau to this extent or hear of what happens after, only the story of a woman who had her joy robbed because she thought she could mend a broken man. CINEMA.

The part where Phylicia Rashad told her that she had to accept responsibility really opened my eyes to something. At the time I thought it was a cruel thing to say being that she was sitting there suffering so badly. As a mother now I couldn't imagine. However now that I am a mother oh, I get it. And although I've been grateful to avoid any kind of abuse, I just hope that there were many women that got it too.

It’s such a hard message to convey, but it’s completely necessary. You gotta boss you whatever way possible if your children’s lives are at danger... no more “I’m too scared to...” because it’s no longer about you when you bring children into a life like that.

i like the video because of the emotion and the realism that was portrayed in the film...the acting was amazing speaking from an actor's point of view. it touches your heart because it was a damn good scene. I'm writing a paper about why men act in such a manor to woman and this clip shows a part of why. Intimacy issues, anger, masculinity and furthermore.
