So glad I wasn't the only one that felt this way about Frostwatch. The thumbnail art of the map had me excited to vote for it on a server, but soon after it began I realised the misplacement of my excitement...

I remember testing frostwatch's alpha on tf2maps like, 2ish years ago and the geometry of the first stage hasn't changed much and it was terrible back then too

Frostcliff is a reskin of a map that isn’t in the game, called nocturne. With the addition of Frostcliff, the guy behind both of those maps has also gotten 7 others total into tf2 (Hellstone, Brimstone, Gravestone, Erebus, Terror, Chilly), and they are _all_ mid.
I once said that I thought the map had some issues and the map maker straight up told me "I'd love to see you do better".
So that was a thing.
So that's why all the stone maps feel the exact same to me

The Partizan is for Pyro and I've started using it in my main loadout now and I've just now noticed the little bag has a Molotov Cocktail sticking out of it. I love it even more.
When I finally managed to win frostwatch on attack I screamed myself hoarse with the victory. It was like winning an actual war.

absolutely. It feels like a perfect combination of all of the ctf maps' cool, interesting design decisions put together and the subpar elements carefully removed.
It has the iconic Bond villain espionage vibe of 2_fort's intel basement, but adequate health packs, good flanks, and a mid that doesn't become sniper battlements hell. It has the fun ducts of turbine (and hydro, originally), but it manages to get the balance of 'this duct is a straight line' and 'I entered this duct an hour ago, where am I?" just right so it introduces a twisty optional risk/reward route to flank the basement or juke defenders.
It has the grand scale of ctf_well, but instead of being a super long lane with massive sightlines, it's more wide with a healthy sprinkling of flanks. To top it off, Frosty has the delightful verticality that I would say is similar to Doublecross (the intel basement sunken into the open ceiling is a nice change of pace, allows for wonderfully dynamic plays), and a perfect blend of indoor and outdoor spaces akin to Landfall and/or ctf_sawmill.
After I first played it, I was so blown away by how well it managed to balance all of these elements that I had to load it up in gmod just to explore and see just how it fit it all together. It eventually devolved into me fawning over the wonderful details, especially the active security cameras, moving screens, and moody lighting of the intel basements. It's lowkey revised my prior stance that CTF is not a great fit for the gameplay of TF2.

@@andruspolanco6935 I’ve been starved of TF2 lore for so long that I’ve resorted to trying to glean snippets of information from maps. If I ever build the courage to produce content, I might make a video or two on my findings and share it around, see if anyone else cares or at least finds my work entertaining. I’ve had a spreadsheet growing over the past year and a half listing every added map and what actual tactical objectives Red & Blu are fighting over. Though the usual player thinks in terms of control points, briefcases, and payload carts, I’ve been trying to determine why the territories are being seized, what the bomb cart is intended to destroy, and what the intelligence in those briefcases is. I can find ballistic missiles of various sizes on over 2/3rds all maps. I know the three non-ctf maps that still use an intelligence briefcase as a map prop. I know what map has the highest count of nuclear ordinance (it’s steel, closely followed by Vangaurd). I’ve speculated on what the heck the device on KotH_nucleus even is. If Valve is not gonna give us the final comic to advance the story, then I’m gonna look elsewhere, and at this stage I’ve resorted to the scraps hidden in the artstyle and theming of maps.

Frostwatch is a winterified cp_firewatch, based on the game Firewatch. I played cp_firewatch a few years ago and liked it, even though it was choky AF. It looked nice.

Fun fact, frosty IS a community map, i played it on lazy purple's silly servers last year, if you go to the lazy purple silly server map list, frosty is there and was added before smissmas 2022

Frostcliff is a like in a weird reskin territory because it's a map that's got it's Halloween reskin in the game (it's that one with the monoculus spam on last) but the original map isn't in the game

I think Rumford and Coal Pit are my favorites. Every time I've played on Rumford, the cart proceeds pretty quickly through the first 3 checkpoints (although not without competition!), but there is a really cool all-out battle at the very last checkpoint that is super fun. Coal pit is just quite fun for me aesthetically, and a blast to play! I wish that those two maps would be put in regular map rotation...

Was sad that the compiling of pl_rumford_event seemed to have been goofed up for the release. Missing model and 3 door models not rendering.
Now it is just the windows in the now rendered doors that are missing textures.

I will say that Frostcliff on Offense is a miserable experience. The map is engineer and sniper heaven.
Honestly Frosty is a pretty fun map, it also has a funni medpack platform in the middle pretty sure only scouts, soldiers and demos will ever access lol.

Actually, the payment only comes from the ads RUNNING, not the ads being interacted with, and comes in a big lump at the end of the month. a streamer I love started doing ad breaks every hour or so, or when she wants to take a little break to stretch. think it's from her partnership status?
