I think monotype runs of games can often be boring, but what stands out to me about this video is that the selection of Pokemon is pretty interesting and forced you to come up with some pretty creative solutions. I also love seeing mons like Girafarig put in work. So i guess what id suggest is keeping that in mind when deciding what monotype runs you wanna do

@@gamermanzeake And considering ghosts barely existed and are weak to earthquake, fighting as a type was garbage, normals often get quite good stats and movepools to make up for their "normalness" and steel types to resist them also didn't exist in gen 1, there's a reason why normal types were the second kings of gen 1 after psychic. Ironically, the first gym will probably the biggest absolute brick wall of the entire run since afterwards, all the advantages I mentioned roll in and you can pick up water gun/bubblebeam to deal with rocks from then on right next in mt. moon and Cerulean.
But fighting Brock with a level 14 Rattata, Pidgey and Spearow sounds like absolute hell lol.
Same reason I'd never do a grasslocke in GSC since trying to fight Falkner with a level 9 Chikorita, Bellsprout and Hoppip and only being able to bolster that with a Paras and evolving Chikorita into Bayleef for Bugsy sounds even worse.

I really like these nuzlocke videos. It's a different format than I'm used to from other creators (admittedly I don't watch that many who do nuzlockes anymore) but I really like this format because it's closer to your "usual" style from other challenge videos. I think this video style for nuzlockes has a lot of merits. I personally think it might just take some time for people to warm up to this style of videos, so I don't think you should stop. You produced a lot of content recently so I wonder if it's just people with their limited time prioritizing watching the video type they're already familiar with from your channel. I hope you'll continue with both this type of video as well as your solo runs.

Something I'd possibly like with your Nuzlocke runs is maybe some more going through the early, failed runs - as opposed to only following the winning run and narrating it. This was an enjoyable video, but I think the suspense of "is this the winning run or will we need to reset?" might up the ante a bit.

    • @AhsimNreiziev
      @AhsimNreiziev 2 роки тому

I know Snorlax is the strongest Pokémon (by far) in Gen 2 Competitive, but remember that single-player runs aren't the same thing as Competitive Pokémon. And, since Red (and *MAYBE* Blue) is the only Trainer that matters against which you could even conceivably use Snorlax (as Snorlax only appears in Kanto in Gen 2), the *real* question is: does Snorlax provide any significant advantage against Red's Pokémon that other Pokémon (like, say, Miltank or Blissey) don't provide?
Also, on a completely different note: do make sure to report the Spammer/Scammer if you haven't already.

So love the videos and have been subbed for a while. The issue with hc nuzlockes (in my opinion), are that they perform much better when streaming live. We get to see your reactions when things die. Especially since you tell us multiple times you did 25-30 runs.
That being said, for UA-cam content, maybe include some of your biggest losses throughout the runs you do. Not all, but some, include live reactions if you record them.

I think the way you play the nuzlockes is great! I think the video could use more failed run footage. In your solo runs you do great narration of boss battles where we don’t know if you win or lose, but in the nuzlocke videos we never see you wipe. I think it would be more interesting to showcase some of these dramatic battles where you eventually lose.

Sorry, it's been a few weeks. I forgot this was a Normal-Type only Nuzlocke we were talking about. My bad. My other points still stand though.
You're also not taking into consideration the time it would take to get those move sets you're talking about. For example, if you want to give Snorlax Hyper Beam, one of its strongest moves, you/JRose would need to pay 7500 coins at the Celadon Game Corner, which is a LONG grind.
Finally, you're also not considering the time it would take to level Snorlax up to a level where he/she/it would be significantly stronger than the Pokémon already on JRose's team.
It's still possible that Snorlax would be a superior choice, but the analysis is more complex than you think, and it's an analysis you'll have to make (and make properly) if you want to successfully argue that JRose should have gone with Snorlax.

I was kinda similar in that regard, hence why I ADORED the HGSS remakes. great video, but a bit of feedback- I know these take a lot of attempts, but I believe naming your Pokémon is a very important part of what I find makes nuzlocks enjoyable.
whether silly, serious, or somewhere in between, names help us bond with our Pokémon, and it makes the moments more poignant.
nuzlocks are tragedies- it’s worthwhile to make the losses sting more.

Can't wait for psychic run, purely for Espeon. I'd also love to see an eeveelution run, but that may not be possible

Jrose you're a genius in battle! Man really you play so professionally and cleverly, all the time you study the chances for every single battle and you always do a great job. I guess that is got to be the most underleveled battle against Red so far and yet you did great against despite your low levels. Congratulations! You are intellectual culture Jrose! Great job!

3:07 Jrose's mom hated him. If I had the time and a sledgehammer, I would destroy every single gen 1 and 2 cartrige in existance. Those games are so. Freaking. BAD!

great video. I enjoyed the whole adventure from front to back. The pointers you made such as holding off pigeotto for early wing attack were very useful.

biggest achievement is your gold cartridge still working. I was devastated years ago when my silver one went blank (Got it at release when I was 7 i think?). The save just wiped and it won't save any data.... a thousand hours of childhood gone! As much I hate gen 2 now, it was such a big part of our past.

I love these types of videos! The only thing I can think of would be to cut a little more of the middle game out when you got a little repetitive. Aside from that consider putting a banner around your screen that tracks deaths, your current team etc. I've seen others do that and it's always been well received

Here's what I think about your HC nuzlockes :
It's good that you're doing videos with whole teams because that gives more options in one fight than with just one pokemon.
But unlike in a solo run, you fear losing pokemons and can't retry a hard fight until you find the right, consistent strategy (which is what I think you're great to watch doing).
So maybe beating a non-nuzlocke game with a whole team (maybe a set team of 6 weak pokemons for the whole run, to keep things hard) at the lowest possible level would be more fun.

I really like your nuzlockes, very nice change up from other ones I watch and honestly I like informative videos so the detail you go into is quite nice and refreshing. 10/10.

It's a shame it isn't performing as well, because I LOVE the monotype challenges. It always made me feel like an aspiring gym leader proving their worth for the league to do myself, but I wasn't able to stomach nuzlocking it like you did. Keep up the good work!

It's pretty entertaining. What I don't like is precise team planning. I know I'm playing a nuzlocke and I'm stuck with sandshrew and whooper. My geodude dies to a crit, and Whitney gives me anxiety. I don't want to see you fail, but these runs are so perfect. I want imperfection. Use ditto because you got nothing else. You're doing great. But i wish you would be as unlucky as me from time to time:)

    Month of Jrose🙏
Seriously though, excellent video. Love the Typelock videos, but also really love Solo Run videos, so excited to see both.
On the topic of them not performing as well, that is only because your audience is used to specific style of videos and will expand as you add a broader variety to your channel(as long as it doesn’t hurt your older style of content)

I've been loving this month! I think the reason these videos aren't performing as well is because we come here for the stories whereas the nuzlocke videos feel more like guides. Maybe that's just me though.

Great job, and I hope these Nuzlocke training sessions teach you a lot about what helps in other generations, which hopefully saves you time in the future. I certainly learn a lot. That Blissey was such a special wall! Reminds me of the Chansey trainer in I think Victory Road in Red/Blue that soft locked me with soft boiled since it has infinite PP and I was training up weaker Pokémon. Brutal.

Loving all these videos this month! more of these HC nuzlockes! A few months ago, I started playing monotypes of all types in all generations...not nuzlocke though, I catch the first mon of each species that I encounter (not limited to one encounter per route), I don't use items in battle, I fully train evs, I use rare candies to reach level caps and I don't deposit mons that faint. I guess my goal is to have fun, see how the different types have evolved over the generations and what teams and mons I want to use the most to complete each game. It's been a blast! I am currently playing Water monotype in Alpha Sapphire!

This was much more entertaining to me than your previous nuzlocke content. Although I enjoyed them, they weren't your usual style. This was a good mix of your usual style and nuzlocke content.
I know you have plenty of video ideas in the works, but some of these "theme team" challenges in some rom hacks would be cool. Crystal Clear is a really fun rom hack imo and somewhat true to the originals. I would also find Radical Red content interesting, though that changes soooo much it might not hit with your audience the same way. Keep up the good work!

I like the idea of spicing up the typical Nuzlocke challenge with a Type restriction. In my opinion that differentiates your challenges for the rest. And I have to say the first general Nuzlocke video wasn't very enticing to me, it just felt like any other Nuzlocke video. This was actually entertaining again. It's the kind of challenge I would also do if I was a UA-camr and the main reason why I follow your videos. Your style resonates with me. :)

For a Role Play style Type Theme Team, I love going through Sword & Shield, as in most cases you can build your entire 6 Pokémon team on your first visit to the wild area, and then you get to travel with your friends through the whole game~

Thanks so much for this amazing month Jrose (and AJ!). I've been watching your video's for over 2 years now, and though I understand these challenges are very taxing on your brain, I really missed your video's in my life in the months that you sadly couldn't upload. This amazing month has me excited every day for a new video, with some new challenges I haven't seen you do before but also with a lot of your great red/blue video's I love so much. Although I'm usually not much of a stream watcher, I'll try to soon hop on your stream and watch you play live! As a pokemon collector since red/blue/yellow (Only skipped Ultra Sun/Moon after I felt really disappointed with Sun/Moon) you have given me a lot of hype and inspiration to pick up older games and try some challenges myself!
I really want to wish you all the best with your life, your channel and the amazing challenges that lie ahead!
Sincerely (one of) your biggest fan(s) :)
