I just bought a 2023 Softail Standard this year, and I will attest that this bike is one of the nicest softails Harley has ever made. The Milwaukee 8 107 has a ton of power and is nothing short of phenomenal.
I have this bike and changing out the seat to a saddleman explorer was a game changer. Old seat had me numb in 10 minutes of riding and feeling like I had to really hang on at freeway speeds. All kinds of plans as time and budget allow. Love this bike (upgraded from an 883)!
Oh man I am so excited for this video. I have been considering this bike since the release and I wanted to hear your feedback since I trust it so much. Great job as always blockhead
Here's my take as a guy approaching 60 years old.... the seat, yeah its not the best by no means..I traded my electraglide in for one of these. It was a 2004 88 inch 5 speed.. At my age, this bike needs no more performance..it very torquey. Its light ( why I traded, my back injury is catching up) and it has plenty of power to get around cars at the drop of a hat. My forward controls are perfect. Ill probably eventually replace the seat, but I found some Basani slip ons ill be putting on. With the daytripper tall back rest, a Bluetooth soundbar installed, and a detachable windshield, my bike is all but complete and trip ready. I was cruising around yesterday and thought id get into the throttle more than normal....The bike jumped from 70 mph to 110 in no time with more throttle just waiting on me but I backed her down. The bike weighs like 50 or 60 pounds more than a sportster. Blockhead was right when he was talking about the weight difference. Ive only owned dressers and a Heritage before, the ability to move this bike around was a huge selling point for me.. in the next ten years, ill have to move to a tri glide. Its coming I know, but until then, ill be enjoying 2 wheels any way I can. Ride safe fellers!
So weird seeing you ride right past my house! That would be the Harley for me based on the price, and the multitude of directions you could take it in customizing. Good review brother.
I have only one question. Harley did an amazing job on this, but is there a way to eliminate the computer screen on the handle bars? Hopefully there is an analog guage. Thanks for any help.
Thanks for your review man! Glad to hear those comments from a Harley experienced guy like you! I'm waiting for mine to arrive at the dealership in a month or so here in Barcelona, my first Harley!
i own a 2020 softail standard and love it i live in nor cal on the coast.the road have alot of curves it handers great and for power it flat gets down the road..love the old school look easy to trick it out.
HI Blockhead, Bought my Softail Standard yesterday, just today saw your video. Super review. Can hardly wait to maiden ride my bike. up here in Canada, it will be another month. Be well
Cool that you dropped this video my fiancée is looking to step up to a newer bike from her first bike and ive been wanting her to ride one of these. Definitely keeping her 2001 1200S around but I can see her on a Softail standard and your video came out with a lot of good info at a good time. Thanks block 👍🏻
I own this bike and I love it! Customizing a little at a time right now all I have is tab performance slip ons with zombie baffles. Coming next is a saddlemen seat and forward controls. Love your videos man looking forward to upcoming videos!
Yes!!! Exactly the video I was waiting for!!! Please buy it and customize it. I love having morning coffee and checking your videos before I start work.
I love mine. I bought a HD Sundowner seat. Very comfortable, less expensive, and it isn’t drastically stepped so I can slide back to stretch my legs on longer rides.
Im a fan of bobs and you could easily bob that sweet bike! But,its a blank canvas and you could take it anyway you want and it looks like an awesome platform for whatever you come up with! Thank you BlockHead for doing these videos! Been watching alot of them and learning alot!
Iron 1200 - $9999. Softail standard - $13599. To me If I was getting into a Harley I’d elect for the standard. Fully upgradable to how you want it. Great job blockhead.
Got a 2021 softail standard Wednesday and absolutely love it. It's got some pep with that 107 engine but super monuveraable and light. Definitely worth the price! The customization ability is insane with this bike as well.
I bought one today! Traded in my 04 electraglide. Asked if I could use my bike for some credit, they gave my 3,000.00 in credit for customizing. And I cant wait to start adding my personal touches. Picking it up Friday. So glad to get off the 88
Love the Soft-Tails, and love the great videos! Always something new and improved in the content and quality. Keep up the great work BlockHead, love the channel.
I traded my 2019 iron 1200 in for a standard. What kinda riding were you thinking about doing? I mean if you wanna do the same kinda riding you did on your sportster like me, go for it. Because the softail standard is just better in every way, the suspension is just so much better, the bike doesn't vibrate the piss outta you over 55mph like my sporty did
@@victorvigorous7125 the gas tank on the standard is 3.5gal BTW, what is a longer ride for you? Keep in mind by the time you need gas, you'll most likely already be ready to get the hell off the bike lol yeah the standard is just a bigger and better sportster

@@thtigmif Sure, understand. My friend went this route instead of a Sportster for the little difference in price and wanted new. She took private lessons for 6 weeks and is riding good. I agree it has a lot of power and torque for some but she thankfully was able to handle it.

Very good review, also in 2023. I'm a big fan of the laced wheels too and thanks to your review I made the decision for the softail std and not a Sportster 1200.

@@stephen5665 There are tons of good bikes that are cheaper. However, if you want a mid-size cruiser then the options are very limited, especially if you want a six-speed transmission.
Great review as always..appreciate you putting the time and effort in..I’m on the fence with either a street bob or roadster..6’ and 250lbs..can the roadster work for me? Not any vids showing larger guys on roadsters riding or even just sitting on one..thanks
Totally agree that stock seat is junk! Switched to a Saddleman StepUp and then a Saddleman Explorer (better passenger comfort) on the Softail Slim I had. A set of Rinehart SlipOns make that Milwaukee-Eight sing a beautiful song.
Great review. I own a 2020 model. I put on a HD Sundowner seat, passenger foot pegs, and a detachable sissy bar. It handles great and has plenty of power. I left my motor stock to maintain my warranty. It is smooth and powerful. Low seat height. I’m 5’8” so Adventure tourers aren’t on my menu. 😄
The local Harley dealer has persuaded me to come and test ride one this weekend, although I have been looking at the 1200 Iron. As he hasn't got a 1200 Iron in stock, I suspect he may be trying to sell me what he has got. But I do like the minimalist look of this bike.
Me and a friend went to Buddy Stubbs HD in phoenix AZ where we are staying now for school went to look at a cheap softail but it was sold by the time we got there. We ended up at Arrowhead HD another dealership not to far away and they pointed me to the softail standard just waiting to get financing on it. I'm coming from a 2003 Honda shadow 750 ace.
I have this bike. You are spot on with the seat comfort. There are a few options, but you almost have to look for street bob seats to actually find them. Options are getting better though. I also fully agree with buying this bike to build, which is what I did.
Yes the stock seat sucks so bad looks good but that's it and anything that fits a new street bob fits this one i always just look for street bob parts when I want something for it
I know this is kinda meant as a blank canvas (as others have stated), but wish it came with options to purchase "the blank canvas" with the 114 or the 117, and a 5gal tank would be a nice option. And yes I know you can get those after market.
I just got my Softail Standard 2 weeks ago and only thing I didn’t like was exhaust (sounds like it’s from the jetsons) and the seat! I’m saving up for those can’t wait to build mine (club style bike)
I swear that every time I look at the Standard or the Slim for the first second I see a panhead engine in them. It must be the combination of classic styling + black cylinders with chrome heads and pushrod covers.
Have you made a video yet about 2018 Classic Heritage Softail with a 114 M8 that has fuel leak issues from the vent tube with less than a quarter of a tank of gas in the tank?
I traded my 2019 iron 1200 in for one of these. Everything is just sooooo much better compared to the sportster, nice actually have suspension. Gonna be buying a saddlemen seat for it, still trying to figure out what type of exhaust i want. Going between the Two Brothers Racing and Bassani's "new" road rage short/shorty whatever they call it.
How about the Softail Sport Glide? Yeah, it’s more $$$ but it’s got so much more to offer. The best part are those gorgeous mantis wheels! Or maybe the best part is the quick detach bags. Or that cool looking mini fairing, also quick detach. Or that cruise control comes standard. As always, good video!

If I had new bike money in hand, I would definitely be looking at the standard as a second bike (my current is a 2000 XL1200 custom). I’ll be honest though. I kinda want to see you ride the flagship bikes from BMW: the RnineT pure, 1250GS, and S1000RR. Some of my favorite videos of yours are always when you go “off the reservation” as it were. Awesome video!!
I love just about everything about this bike. It’s a great platform to do whatever you want to it without having to buy everything you want it to be already built from the factory. You don’t like harleys fairings? That’s cool you can get your own elsewhere. Only thing I don’t like is it only comes in black. I’d love one in white. But that’s what’s great about it. You can go and get it repainted without any buyers remorse.
Hey block do you think a Street Bob or a Standard would be a significant upgrade compare to an Iron 1200 or I'm just better to get a used Dyna? The softtail model I really like are the Fat Bob or the Low Rider S but I can't really justify the price.
When I look at the extras you get with the street bob and the minimal price difference between the two, I can't process why you wouldn't just go with the Street Bob.
Simply because it has all the chromed and polished parts. I think, the production cost of the standard is actually higher than for the Street Bob. Powder coating is cheap, chroming isn't. I also like the pure black better.
I used to love the Street Bob until I sat on it at the Int'l Motorcycle show and now I really dont like it at all anymore. He's spot on about the seat comfort. I went from that and then jumped on a Slim and that was so much more comfortable
Well it depends. This, the street bob, and low rider would maybe work. Definitely not a Heritage, that’s when the bikes start getting bigger and heavier. Honestly you should get a sportster or even better and Indian Scout.
Biker Babe Beth I bet this bike would work for you down the road. You can always change the foot controls and bring the closer to you. Edit: Just saw one of your vids. Yes this bike would work for you and would be a great upgrade from a Sportster. In all actuality, I would love to have a 1200XL as a second bike to my 2018 Heritage. They are hella fun!!
Everybody says she's a blank canvas. I like her the way she is.
All the better then, don't have to put any more $ into it! 😁

You don’t like harleys fairings? That’s cool you can get your own elsewhere. Only thing I don’t like is it only comes in black. I’d love one in white. But that’s what’s great about it. You can go and get it repainted without any buyers remorse.
I wish that there was at least an option for the 114. Now with the 117 coming out, maybe H-D will bump up to the 114 on the Softail Standard
It's maybe the only new softail that I could afford. And I also like it a lot.
I really wish they posted the available options for this bike or said packages.......
Hey block do you think a Street Bob or a Standard would be a significant upgrade compare to an Iron 1200 or I'm just better to get a used Dyna? The softtail model I really like are the Fat Bob or the Low Rider S but I can't really justify the price.
Absolutely love it. Do you think 23000 with everything except gap is a good price cash. Thanks
Would the forward controls be enough to make this bike rideable for me? I'm 6'3".
I've literally replaced the seat on every motorcycle I've owned. Harley's included. I think all mfgs makes their seat suck to support the aftermarket.
Softail Standard vs the Sportster S for a six hr interstate ride?
My question is how do you opt between the Low Rider and the Standard? Which do you think is the better bike of the two?
Could I fit the tank from an 883 on this if I wanted to switch them out?
Can anyone with a Softail let me know if you’d think it would be a good bike for a very short lady? I’m only 5’1”.
Well it depends. This, the street bob, and low rider would maybe work. Definitely not a Heritage, that’s when the bikes start getting bigger and heavier. Honestly you should get a sportster or even better and Indian Scout.
quomofo1 I am currently riding on a 883 Sportster. I love her! Just curious for the future.
