    Huge softail standard fan. I felt your review was really good. Only items I would add is seat and maybe a small windshield.
    I just think the regular package, for me, is perfect. Polished engine pieces, I like the exhaust and the air cleaner too. Such a clean design. Thank you for the exposure to this cool bike.

      Tubeless tires is where it's at. Plug the tire, on the bike, have an electric air pump in your bags, and your on your way again, down the road. Never happen with a tubed bike.

    IMO, any M8 bike is a massive, MASSIVE, upgrade from a traditional sportster.
    I haven’t ridden the standard but I have ridden several other softails and own a Low Rider S which I traded my iron 883 for. The very first time I got on a softail (slim 107) it was a shock to the senses. I knew right then I was trading in my beloved sportster for one of these softails with that M8 engine. Settled on the last ‘21 Low Rider S left on the lot. I absolutely dig that standard. Beautiful bike in every single way. I prefer it to the street bob even with the bigger engine. The 107 is no slouch by any means!

    • @KSMotoCafe

      100% agreed. I still am waiting to get on a LRS but at this rate I will never because HD can't keep them in the lot long enough!

      I just rode a Softail slim yesterday. Definitely feel more torque on that than my 1200 Sporty. But not crazy difference. Is it worth trading in my Sporty for it? Nope. But I'd like to have one. I'll probably just buy a used one in few years. What I don't like is the small tank. My XL1200C has a full gallon more gas storage!

    • @KSMotoCafe

      @@teslaedison6236 there’s a pretty big power difference and having that 6th gear is a game changer especially if you ride on the freeway a lot like I do. As for the tank you still waste more gas on a sportster cus the rmps are running higher. You just don’t know

    I rode both the Street bob and the standard. I couldn't tell the difference in the power-both had plenty to spare. Been on hogs for 40+ years but I am in no way a rider to take advantage of the extra 7 cubes. A better, heavy handed rider might be able to. Power, torque, looks and handling-this bike is like butter. Nice review mate-Thanks.

  • @feloniousmonk3049
    @feloniousmonk3049 Рік тому

    It needs a bigger 5 gallon fuel tank. This is the blank canvas version in the softail lineup. A Saddleman Explorer seat, rear foot pegs and an aftermarket fairing, and some aftermarket bags, and you got yourself a light bagger. Another GREAT upgrade for these bikes is get the 56mm TALL rear monoshock off a newer 2022 or 2023 LRS or LRST as a takeoff, to replace the stock 3.5" 43mm travel showa rear shock. Now you'll have 4.5" of rear travel, which is much, much, MUCH easier on your lower back. 65 years old here with a bad lower back and this was the single best improvement to my Sport Glide.

    That was a really good review. The only thing that brings this bike down for me is the small gas tank. I really wish HD would've kept the bigger gas tanks when they made the new Softail line. And now that they've gotten rid of the Sportglide and regular Low Rider, there are even fewer options for a 5-gallon tank :(

    I was a Dyna rider for better than 100k miles. Compare a Twincam soft tail to an M8 soft tail. The M8 really shines! Dynas are rubber mount, not a fair comparison.
    My Dyna is an Evo. Never was a Twincam fan, I worked for a HD dealership for 19 years. I think Harley has a winner with the M8.
    We have the same philosophy about windshield. Don't need one.

    • @KSMotoCafe
      @KSMotoCafe  2 роки тому +1

      yeah people who knows engines always praise the M8 over the twincam. The design of twincam dynas also caused the dyna wobble during highspeed turns I hear.

    • @charlesharper7292
      @charlesharper7292 Рік тому

      @@KSMotoCafe Hell, I'd praise the Evo over the TC motor. The Dyna had a peculiar two point drive train mounting system and would tend to wallow a bit rode agressively. In 100k miles I tore out two front mounts and one rear. But I was very rough on that bike, and it never left me stuck anywhere. Had a pretty good wreck one night, me and the bike were pretty tore up and it still got me seven miles home. Still have it and it still runs.

    I love your reviews man. Got all my armored gear now. Just paying off debt still. Love getting to see you ride stuff. I got my license but don't want to start test riding bikes till I'm actually ready to buy. Then ill start my real start to my riding life. Only ridden the two days on msf course and felt super comfortable handing the bike after that. When I get my first bike, I'll be doing some cone skills tests on weekends when I get my bike so I get familiar with its handling. Thank you so much for sharing these for those of us a bit behind your skills. You rock, man.

    • @KSMotoCafe
      @KSMotoCafe  2 роки тому +1

      You are definitely taking the right steps on getting your first bike! My advice is to not wait too long because skill fades pretty quickly (right after the MSF course). After riding for 6 months, you will get this false confidence that you are a good rider and will get tempted to start taking more risks. Just watch out for that. My suggestion is to find a cheap used bike ($4-5k) that is a turnkey (don't buy vintage bikes or bikes that need a lot of fixes) and practice on hit it, get used to riding in all weather conditions, all types of roads, and then sell it for your real first bike of your choice!

      @@KSMotoCafe yeah. Good point. I'm 44 years old so I feel pretty safe knowing I'm not going to push my envelope of safety. Been riding mountain bikes my whole life and honestly have never cared to learn to do wheelies or anything like that. I'll be happy to just ride like I have my whole life. Plus I dont want to ruin the gear I bought. Found the last joe rocket orange jacket they stopped making and bought it. I already am looking at a third full face helmet I want. Ruroc atlas 4.0 fenrir with gold lens and the Bluetooth insert for music on my phone and navigation. I'm so hooked and know I'm going to be in this for life.

    Love the bike as it is--- except forward controls are a must for my 62yo knees. $550 and 2 hours fixed that. Found a 2020 on CL with 100 miles on it and a ton cheaper than new or used from the HD shop. Seat is comfy but boring so I'm looking. 3.5 gal tank is plenty and it looks proper on the bike. Info cluster is perfect for me-just the info I need and nothing else. 107 engine has gobs of power and the ride is awesome. Harley owner since 81 and this is the best riding/handling bike I've had. Never had a softail before but I'm sold on it. Had to keep my sporty 72 cuz it's just so badass tho.

    I bought a 21 street bob about 5 months ago and absolutely love it. I looked at both the standard and the street bob. I liked the 114 engine and the blacked out look better than the chrome. Not that the chrome was bad or the 107 engine seemed lacking to me at all. Both engines have plenty of power. Luckily I was able to fit the slightly more expensive street bob into my budget. If I couldn't I still would have been very happy with the softail standard. Great video! I subscribed. Maybe you can do a street bob in the future?

      Thanks for the support Jacob and sharing your journey to the Street Bob 114! I was actually lined up to review the Street Bob on that day but it was sold right when I got there. So they offered me to test the Standard and the Stage 1 Standard instead. Now only the Street Bob and LRS remains to complete my softail reviews but they all seem to sell too quickly!

      @@KSMotoCafe the street bob and standard to me have the best value in the softail line up. I love the classic look and luckily the street bob was at the top of my budget and was able to get 1. Honestly out of all the softails it probably would be the bike I would have picked regardless if I could afford I higher priced bike. The only other 2 softails I really liked were the deluxe and the breakout which unfortunately they discontinued in the U.S markets. If they still made either of those bikes last year I might have picked up some more overtime to get the deluxe or breakout! Really enjoy that classic look. The street bob and standard are just larger sporsters IMO. I think if you test ride a street bob 114 you might take it home.

      I was looking for either the street bob or the Softail std. The 114 vs the 107 was not in question. Both have great usable power. I do prefer the chrome and spoked wheels. It all came down to the best deal, mileage and how much someone had fiddled with it. For a bike that boasts the MSRP under 14k, I certainly couldn't find one new or used at the local dealerships. High teens for the standard and low 20s for the bob. I figured I saved about 7-8k buying private. 102 miles and the guy knew he made a mid life crisis mistake. He has ridden it twice. Home from the dealership and once to the post office. I watched it on CL and he dropped the price. I was so excited with the bike and the price I didn't insult him by beating him down more. I've had several sporties, shovels and Evo s since the early 80s and this is definitely my favorite. Power, looks and handles like a dream. Love every time I fire it up. Got a custom seat and Dean-Speed slip-ons. Put forward controls the 2nd day. $550 and 2 hours was worth it for these old knees. Love it and definitely sold on the Softail chassis. Thanks for the review my friend.

    Cool! My ramblings: If I had the money for a Fat Bob my second choice would probably be this blank canvas with the difference in price put towards the lovely mods (and then of course likely going on to pay for the bike twice...) The 107 vs 114 isn't a biggie for me and after a few mods you can end up with a classic clean Harley you can really call your own! Personally I did prefer the spoked wheels on this model though. Quite a good and very informative piece compared to most "reviews" on UA-cam that say next to nothing! As far as wind resistance: HUGE difference between them full face helmets compared to a skid kid or even a 3/4 - no comparison. A full face is like a car with a sun roof, no offense So, if you really want the honest wind blast assessment, ditch the full.
    From southern California - Ride Forever!

    • @KSMotoCafe
      @KSMotoCafe  2 роки тому

      thanks for the feedback! Other than the change of the feeling on my face, the wind resistance wouldn't change how it hirs my body. But yeah good analogy about full face helmet being a car with sunroof 😀

    • @midnightmc3096
      @midnightmc3096 2 роки тому +1

      @@KSMotoCafe What I'm saying is that the ratio is totally different when comparing the face versus body. The face blast is one that threatens to lift your helmet off your head; bad with a 3/4 but much worse with a shorty/skid lid. But, the lack of feeling "in the wind" is too much of a drawback for many of us true blue to resort to wearing the full face, as that simply takes away too much of the profound experience of being on a motorcycle in the true sense. The only combo to mitigate this (if one is dead set against putting on one of those fly-me-to Mars jobs on) on a Softail or touring platform bike, is to combine a short shield with so called "Fangs" (lower fork mounted deflectors). The shield is bad enough looks wise for many of us, even though you use one that you can see over, but those fangs are hideous, ruining the look of the front-end and with that, the whole bike. But, that combo lets you practically smoke a cigar at 70mph. Aerodynamics is a dark art. The windblast generated on the head comes up from below the tank, creating turbulence that delivers nasty buffeting to the head/helmet. Keep up the good work!

    It’s 2022 and IMO Harley Davidson needs to continue to expand on fully liquid cooled engines. Selling and hanging onto 1950’s/1960’s hot air cooled motors that are overly labor intensive, high maintenance with out dated components like pushrods, huge primary chain in oil, and bottom end cams, pushrod lifters and three hole oil fill and drain is dead.

    • @KSMotoCafe
      @KSMotoCafe  2 роки тому +1

      They are expanding but little by little to slowly change the fan base from the old to new. But the air cooled engines like the evolution is not high maintenance or labor intensive. Most people can DIY the work because it is so simple. Only reason it is going put is due to emission standards.

    Well i guess it isn't as fast as a Sportster 1200 in the ¼ mile, but at least it costs more and handles like a Greyhound bus. Bonus points, the Milwaukee isn't as reliable as the Evolution, either. So i guess it's great?!

      @@KSMotoCafe yeah, you're right. You can still buy a 2022 Sportster with an Evo, but it seems unlikely they'll be offered anymore, after that. It's a sad thing that H-D still hasn't figured out a way to make powerplants they compete with other manufacturers in terms of performance, cost, or reliability. It's even more sad that they can't even match the Evo's legendary reliability, not have any of their offerings since the Evo been so user-friendly as far as ease of modification/repairs go.
      So, no, I'm not ok. I'm pretty upset. We all know H-D is in dire straits and few (if any) of their current offerings seem capable of turning that around for them. I guess i can take some confirm in knowing that the used market for Sportsters will likely stay strong for a long time to come, alright we can expect prices to jump up quickly once the new ones are officially discontinued.

    • @KSMotoCafe
      @KSMotoCafe  2 роки тому +1

      @@fatrobdouble well said - sportsters (evo ones) will hold its value for awhile and the good condition stock ones will go up in price eventually. You can only buy new sportsters in North America and few countries around the world. Harley Europe, Australia, and parts of Asia was forced to cancel the Evo bikes in 2021 due to strict emission laws. So those countries have been without a Sportster for 2 years (not counting the Sportster S)

    • @fatrobdouble
      @fatrobdouble 2 роки тому +1

      @@KSMotoCafe surprisingly enough, ironhead Sportsters ain't cheap in my local market... I guess bc old Harleys are chingón regardless and even though Ironheads are gonna break down easily, they're also fixed easily? But whatever, used Evo Sportsters plentiful and affordable, even ones in good shape with low miles. And ones with mechanical issues, cosmetic issues, even high miles... They're easy to work on and there's a huge supply of used/ aftermarket parts, even rebuilds are about as easy as it gets for a decent-sized 4 stroke... So buying a basketcase might make sense, depending on your goals and garage....
