I'm 72 and back in the day the West was looking to the East for enlightenment. We did not close out other spiritual concepts but for me it was a finding process. In the end I came back to Christianity with open arms and love for Jesus.

What a fantastic interview!! Donovans sharings in this are very profound. I love the album too. I 100% believe him when he says he is the Gaelic Shaman.
Unlike many musicians, he lives up to what he says. In his song Sunshine Super Man he says "Cause I made my mind up, you're going to be mine (forever to be mine)" was released in 1965. It became a hit song with the primary intend being that his love Linda would hear it and reunite with him. Now to this day all these years later they are still married. So when he says he's the Gaelic Shaman, I believe that. It must be a very honorable role and perhaps many people don't realize that.

The music he put out in the '60s sounded like it came straight from heaven. It helped me get through that generation. He's one of the greatest ever did it PERIOD!

I went to see Donovan in concert June 1, 1975 at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London. Since I arrived 'bout an hour early I decided to take a walk 'round the block which lead me to the alley behind the theatre. Up pulls a limo to the rear entrance 'n out steps Donovan! I spoke to him briefly 'n he let me take some photos. An hour later I was in the audience. What a most memorable first time seein' him...lucky me! Saw 'n spoke to him again years later in Monterey, CA.

THIS is the kind of interview that TV used to do, but has not done for a very long time. One that just allows the subject to TALK. UA-cam is now the go-to platform for in-depth interviews, and more power to it! I've learned more about Donovan in the last hour than I knew over the past 60 years. 👍

He is really off key here, his recorded songs from decades ago are incredibly beautiful. But so sharp-minded with an incredible grasp of detail at his age as age is known and agreed to here on this planet. He ignores bypasses age in some respects, that which doesnt serve his immovable immutable dedication to his creative passions and perspectives. His stories are told with such power and specifically guided detail that speed along and mesmerize. Not many can go on the internal ride he offers, they dont have the mental grasp and therefore interest or patience. Donovan, magical miracle musical man. Parallel soul dimensional magician and poet. I remember my love for you and bring it forward into the eternal moment of now. You were and are still an aspect of the divine I am comfortable resonating with and expanding perspective with. Love always. You are the magical adventure 🍃🕊️🌟 🤍💫⭐

I saw and met Donovan at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia… he autographed my ticket stub, which I gave to another fan. During that particular tour, Donovan invited people to come up and play. I was asked to play one of my songs by his manager, but had put my music on hold for a while… I didn’t feel comfortable getting on stage with Donovan, unprepared, and having drunk a few red wines. Still regret not doing it… as I could have also played that famous green, acoustic guitar. I did get back into my music after that, and have recorded several albums, since… and am working on my 7th. That experience helped jolt me back into creativity… it certainly reawakened my muse. I started doing music at age 6, and keep going. Thanks to Donovan for his amazing contribution to musical culture and beyond. His ego can be a bit much, but that’s the artist’s way for a lot of us.

The first time I ever heard Donovan was in the 1960s when a girlfriend brought over her only record which her postman father had found lost in the post. After I played my only record, the Beatles Sgt Pepper, she put hers on and I was mesmerized. I ended up buying nearly every record he made and in the late 1990s I saw him play at Camden lock London. It was just him and a guitar but he was masterful. After the show I leapt up onto the small stage and had a few words and got his autograph before shaking his hand and leaving as high as a kite. Donovan is a very prolific and beautiful songwriter whose music sends you to another dimension, may he continue to do so. However, he seems to put great store in his Irish and Scottish roots, though his surname Leitch is very common all over Britain but particularly in England. Though all us on these islands are related in one way or another.

Thank you Donovan ! I have all your stuff. But one thing seriously, I, and many many others I know, aren't fans of MONO ! A parallel STEREO version would've been very beneficial indeed, especially for our big stereo systems that we spent 1000's on ! Our stereo headphones will also be uninterested. We have zillions of mono recordings and we
have always assumed that mono was just a method of record companies to cover up or hide any poor mixes, tonal balances and errors in original tapes etc. We feel that MONO took the long way home in the mid sixties at some point and yielded to the far superior stereo format. I have all your recordings in stereo and EPIC had such a vast stereo catalogue, especially C&W music. Cheers.

Wow, I didn't know Donovan was such a authentically elevated spiritual being, but it all makes sense now. I remember his music as being my entry way into the milieu of the 1960's and served as introduction to singles by the Beatles such as "Penny Lane" & "Strawberry Fields." I was heavily influenced by George Harrison spiritually as his introduction to the "Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead" book convinced me to read it back in 1983, and I have been both a follower of the religion of India and Vegetarianism (although now Vegan some 6-years) ever since. Now I am finding out that what I was listening for in the music of the Beatles was right there in Donovan's music all along!

"Wear your love like heaven" was a good song. I remember the same year or so, a commercial on tv used that song to promote a female body spray. I think the spray was called "Love." Not sure. I guess Donovan didn't own the publishing rights to the song at the time.

that's not really fair to say. in your life, it may seem like some people are the man, but in some peoples' lives, they have to do all the stuff. using that word isn't really fair if you look at man from their perspective, at least for all modern purposes of reference. most men probably scan it with their phone.

Does he address the brilliant Shawn Phillips not getting writing credits for most of the Sunshine Superman album as a writer amd musical director?
Im listening now... and hoping he gives him credit.

I love Shawn I met a duo backstage in Calgary in the 80's and told them I couldnt help but hear Shawn in their performance. They took it as a compliment because they studied with him even joining him in South America ? when he went down to help with an earthquake? I didn't know about this with Donovan .... interesting

@@AlannahRyane Creatively, Phillips served as a silent partner in the gestation of many of Donovan’s songs from the era, with the singer later acknowledging that Phillips primarily composed “Season of the Witch”. - Wiki

Apparently Shawn Philips wrote the melody for Season of the Witch and is credited with writing, Sunshine Superman and Mellow Yellow both of which are my least favourite Donovan tracks, though very successful. Donovan's step son who is the son of his wife Linda and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, did a cover of Sunshine Superman which I actually prefer.

@johnbrereton5229 ah, as a child sunshine superman was and remains one of my favourites.
He apparently co wrote most of the sunshine superman album, not just the track.
