On styling alone, I'd have the Z. When the choices are something that resembles a Japanese bullet train or a crudely-fashioned wooden doorstop, the correct choice is obvious.
Werd. To roughly quote EverydayDriver, "...a spaceship could land in your front lawn and you'd still look at the 300ZX". My TT is anything but a show car but jeeeeeeez the attention it gets...hilarious, man.
Z32 2+2 does feel like driving a bullet train.. a long wide heavy car.... holds the road and the handling somehow gets better the faster you go :) I think the 300zx has some of the best aerodynamics of any car... I know on paper newer cars apparently have better aero.. but just look at the Z32!! This thing slices through the air! Also don't forget that the Jun/Blitz Z32 did 260mph on the Bonneville Saltflats... fastest record in E/BMS! 260 is Shinkansen territory!
@Brandon Krause the c4 doesnt look like its from '82? Seeing that the c4 is from '84 and after.... just a little nitpick. Doesnt mean much other than what it means.
That wasn't even a 90 Vette interior. Besides Corvettes don't age thayt why they are collected and celebrated. That Nissan is in the Junk yard or rattling down the street somewhere.
RayJ-HT I dunno man, every 300z I see around here is in great condition. While most the c4s are parked in yards with a covering of leaves and a strange dirt residue that makes them all appear a grey shade of brown. Of course there's exemptions, but..
z32 isnt a sports car? 2 door twin turbo v6 rwd amazing suspension system for its time Made by early 90's nissan came with stock wide tires Has 300hp k
It makes sense why the Toyota Supra Turbo ultimately became the Import Tuner’s golden hero car with the overbuilt 2JZ motor, but the Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo and Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 are still cool too.
Sorry RCR but no the base corvette only had 250Hp and 350ft/lbs with the L98. The ZR-1 had 375HP and it had a price close to double that of the 300ZX Turbo.
This episode really needed better fact checking. The Corvette facts were wrong, and what gives with heaping praise on the Z31? He complains about no high end power, that single cam Z31 is worse than the Z32, especially the single turbo version.
@@mougmeduro7017 yes they absolutely do use the 300zx headlight... and your idol Doug Demuro even says this. Under the eyelid of the Lambo headlight is the Nissan engraving still.on the headlight.

(not my car). I haven't driven an S2000, but the 300zx TT remains the best handling stock vehicle I've driven, more so than the FB RX-7, E30 325, AE86, 370z NISMO, R35 GT-R etc that I've driven since, especially in low-speed very tight corners where the fairly square wheelbase and 4WS shows up big time. Of course I haven't driven an MR2 yet *slurping noisessss*
ConnorWolf Fun fact the Z32 don't have airbags their reason for it is kind of retarded they said they can't have a steering wheel that can move up with a airbag, so they didn't even put one in it.
Yeah I just did some research on the Z32 18 city 24 highway vs the Corvette's 17 city 27 highway and the NA Z32 gets about 222-300 Horses while our dumbass hillbilly C4 gets 300-405 Horses both same year
@@nickrustyson8124 with almost 3 more litres and 2 more cylinders you can only get 100hp? Lmaoooooo the Germans could give you 300hp more with that even with NA
This is more a status car now than it ever was in the 90s - Especially the right-hand drive models Nobody drives them like sports cars around my town, but they love to cruise and show off the model
Armoured Skeptic I’m 20 not that it matters and I have an imported 300zx (rhd model) twin turbo, t-top. I go against a lot of what he says but my car is also upgraded in the sense of suspension, wheels, injectors, CA intake, blow offs, etc.aking around 500whp on stock internals, stock trans, stock block. I love the car with everything I think it handles perfectly and can never get over the way it looks. It’s truly an underrated and over looked car. Thanks for reading if ya do.
if you ever redo a car review do this one. been a fan for a long time and this one just doesn't seem like you tried. the 300zx is way more of a competitor to the 3000gt or dodge stealth. considering all three had N/A and TT Options
Just came back to this review, and I must say, as an owner of a 280zx, the 300zx shares quite a bit I would say. The build quality is very nice for its age, the overall design is wonderful, and if I still had the stock suspension I could see how it would be more of a cruiser than a track car. But I got mine after the owner had set it up for autocross, but I was suprised to see that most of the original parts are still there. The steering wheel and shift knob have been replaced (but I still have the originals), the body was largely unmodified meaning the typical classic z-car rust was also there, even if it wasn't as bad as most, and it still has the stock engine and transmission, the l28e hooked up to a 5-speed manual. But the engine was rebuilt at some point, so most of the emissions stuff was deleted, the cam was replaced by a fairly aggressive cam, then the heads were shaved and the pistons were replaced by flat tops so it would run at 11:1 compression. And on top of that the suspension was replaced with some brand of racing springs and coilovers. But despite all of this, it has got to be one of the best daily drivers out there. Even tuned up it gets really decent fuel economy for its age (if I were to guess it would be at about 17-20mpg combined running on 91), the transmission is wonderful, the interior is spacious and comfy as hell, the engine has no lack of power apmost anywhere, there is tons of storage space in the back, even with stiff as hell suspension it is quite a comfortable ride, and it is still quite the light car sitting at around 2700-2800lbs.
RegularCars, You reviewed the wrong Z32, The standard NA is like.. Pointless. The 2+2 handles very, very well and the TT is a 5.5 second car and handles pretty damn well too, The Na is still be a 7-8 second car.. These cars handle really well and were really fast for theyre time, and 300Hp for a Japanese car was a lot back then.. I dont see why you were bashing those parts.. But I do appreciate everything else you mentioned and its nice to see these cars getting more widely known Also if his Z had the largely notorious Det. Sensor issue where the det sensor goes out and throws the ECU into limp mode which is incredibly common then that would make a ton of sense acutally
It should though.. It may be heavier but the longer wheelbase lets it handle better, I dunno what you mean about the awkward proportions either.. The TT models handle better partly from the Super-Hicas but thats if its still working and compared to an NA id personally like to say that the 2+2 is better. Doesnt look stubby either The 2+2's extra weight on the rear end and wheelbase should add for more balance This may also just be a preferance thing
100% agree. Own an NA and have driven a couple TTs. Both being easily one of the best handling cars I've driven (albeit, with RE-71Rs). Not the best, but one of. And when the knock sensor goes, its pulls a lot of timing out.. When mine did it drove just like he described, top end fell way off. But a properly working Z has a great high end power band. But this is just a product of driving cars that you don't own - when something is wrong, you can't tell, and probably assume it's just how the car drives. Also disappointing to see base Fairlady numbers compared to non-base C4 numbers. *smh*
+theboondocksrock Right? especially since even an NA engine nowadays can make 600hp fairly easy.. Not as reliable as a TT engine no but with tuning being more refined you can turbo a high compression engine just fine these days.. And TT engines will put out 600hp plus for some others stock , But thats asking for something to go. And yeah the det sensor will cause huge driving issues
Actually, he was referring to the base corvette with a K&N air filter which everyone knows makes about 374hp. But the "Ain't Skeered" stickers bring them down to around 364ish.
Yes, once again we see that UA-camrs are not accredited journalists. You come here for a couple of tidbits, shots of warning labels, a lot of stuttering and filler, hope to get a chuckle, but forget about facts. No independent channel blows up for anything but entertainment.
I have an 8 monitor+keyboard setup with joysticks for mice, so actually in reality the problem is actually a fun advantage that allows me to enjoy pleasure of 8 different varieties at once. Seeing your response to my comment is awesome, it's like i've met a small town celebrity at the annual farmers market. And yes, my occupation is chugging along after the mishap of the claw-proctology scan of 94' has faded from the persistent mind of my patients.
Well I've been waiting for this video for a while and was very keen when I seen it pop up as I own a Z32 all I can say is you broke my heart with that review
+Aspiring to Inspire yeah they are great cars still holds the land speed record for its division and it still holds the fastest Mount Panorama lap for its class the down side of them heavy and tight engine bay but I think he overly bashed it
I love my z32. I also love my z31. The z32 is a beautiful car and is fast with a TT motor. It is a fun car to drive with lot of ability to handle especially when you do some upgrades.
Tristan Tannich What? No, I was referring to you comment about later Z (Z32) models having 405bhp, which they never did... Unless you accidentally mixed up the Corvettes and 300ZX's together, then that makes sense.
The Z31 was, and still is, pretty ugly. The Z32 was, and still is, pretty good looking. I'm glad they changed it and didn't stay with the reptilian style 80s car.
I had 96 , it was awesome. Super reliable and very nicely made. Bought it with 60K and put another 130K on it. It was already lowered, had Tokico shocks, GReddy exhaust, cold air intake and headers. It just was awesome!
Well... 375HP on a C4??? Hahaha, what have you been smoking Mr. Regular?? :P I mean, yeah the ZR-1 was a "special high end edition"... but why not comparing it to at least the Twin Turbo Z32? The first C4s barely had 250HP at most and eventually 330HP with the LT1, not that far fetched from the Z32's TT 300HP claim ;)
In fairness, the chassis is pretty mind blowing with good grippy tires. However, the single piston calipers are awful. Also, the amount of power you got from the factory was awful. The Z32 came with 4 piston from calipers and twin piston rears. Great attention was paid to maximizing grip while having a compliant ride without high NVH. It's just a different car. Such a shame your dad hasn't ridden in more cars.
I owned an '86 C4 that was a year old. Comparing the C4 to the Nissan Z32 is like comparing apples to oranges. The interior of the C4 was slapped together in the typical "American" build quality of that era, the hard plastic trim pieces were screwed directly to the steel center posts. The resulting rattles were abundant when hitting the smallest tar strips. Screw heads were visible EVERYWHERE and most of the screws were driven in cockeyed. As for the engine, it put out 225 HP (steel heads) while the aluminum heads were 230HP. The car was fun to drive, with gobs of torque starting as low as 1500RPM. At 4700RPM it was done making horsepower. The tire grip in the twisties was very impressive even in the standard version that I had. I got rid of it after a year mainly because of the suckie build quality.
I've always wanted one of these since I was a teenager... I could still recall callin' up Nissan like 20+ years ago, and chewin' them out for discontinuing the 300ZX. The car was FANTASTIC, and NOTHING is wrong with it. I was hopin' they would mass-manufacture it make as as many of them as there were Corollas. Like a MILLION of these vehicles a year. They just coldly said to me, that the 350z will be 'replacing' it. I told 'em to just go straight to HELL. I shure gave 'em an EARFUL!!! 😡
This is the first RCR that I'm dissapointed in. Most are generally spot - on; but the facts about the cars on this one are way off. That was NOT a '94 'vette - 88-90 at best and that was definitely the 250hp L98 motor. The s32 was leagues ahead of the s31, both in performance and styling. The s31 consistently received un-enthusiastic reviews from automotive publications throughout its life. It was very bland in style, was overweight, softly sprung, and not very quick. The GM f-bodies outsold the s31 regularly. The s32 was very highly rated by the automotive press and the TT version was a 'vette eater. It still remains a classic design. Maybe RCR doesn't like Nissan?
@@TheSaturnV put down the booze. You'll see things more clearly. The Z31 was a pine derby car design. Of the 80's sports cars/coupes/2+2's, it was the least heralded car by the automotive press. On the other hand, the Z32 was continually praised throughout it's production years by the motoring press and was a lauded as breathing life back into the Z car after the 7 year dud that was the Z31. Personally, I don't dislike the Z31; but there's nothing outstanding about it when compared to the vehicles of it's time. I grew up in the 80's and was a car junky. Nobody, and I mean nobody gave two shits about the Z31. We all wanted IROCs, T/A's, 'Vettes, Supras and hell, even the Starion/Conquest twins were more sought after than the Z31. But hey, whatever floats your boat there boss. Just the opinion of a lifetime car fan.
I drive a 1990 300zx, it's blue with a dark blue leather interior. it's pristine, everywhere I go people want to talk about it. You're right about the interior, people sit in my car and can't believe the layout... the feel. The car is great, and in 1990 the twin turbo, with 4 wheel steering, and a design done on CAD, it was a technologically advanced car. I know some people don't get it, but spend a few minutes in the driver's seat and you'll understand. Now, in all honesty, I'm considering the LS swap to get better performance, but this car is a joy to drive.
I love RCR videos, but this one is plain bad. Before I say anything, I've never especially been a fan of the ZX300. I have no problem with them, but I've never been particularly interested in them. You're comparing an N/A base model to the Corvette, when it was the turbo that was meant to compete with it. You're using the wrong horsepower figures for the Corvette base model. Also, when mentioning the the "weak" V6 in the 300ZX, remember that it has more horsepower than the V8 in the Mustang GT of the same year. The facts are either wrong or all over the place. Kind of ruins both your point and the entire video.
But who watches RCR for FACTUAL reviews anymore? No no you come here for some quality family oriented entertainment and so highly opinionated points on different vehicles.
I own both and I'm hear to tell you that this review will play great with the Jalopnik types but isn't even close to right. They're completely different cars with completely different missions. The Z is a GT car and the C4 is a more pure sports car. That's largely why the C4 focuses on the drivetrain and the Z focuses on the interior and materials. I can give a very, very long list as to why I love the Z more than the C4. But, the C4 is lovable in its own way too. Comparing the NA to a C4 is ridiculous.
I do enjoy the reviews for the humor, but the humor still needs to be grounded in facts or else why not just make the entire thing up. Not to mention these videos are usually shared by Road and Track Magazine... I think Mr. Regular would want his facts to be correct.
I think his bias towards the Z31 really got him away from what the Z32 is supposed to be. Then, to compare it to a C4 is pretty nuts. The C4 was meant to just go fast... and it also had an interior. The Z32 was supposed to be the kind of car you take your significant other out on a comfy date in but COULD scare her a bit on the ride home.
What Johnkilo said. Kinda ironic in a way that one of my favorite UA-cam car channels doing basically my favorite car ever (I have a TT...) resulted in my least favorite video of theirs.
This was a gorgeous car when it came out for the 1990 model year, and I think it is still very attractive today. The twin turbo models were crazy fast with 300 hp. Definitely a car to lust after. The Z cars have always been fantastic vehicles. Performance, looks, reliability... I never got the pleasure of owning one but have driven a few. Sweet rides...
This was my dream car. I owned one. It was great. It totally knew how much disposable income I had. I still loved it... and now 15 yrs later I drive a 99 Corolla.
From 6:03 on is the stuff of legends. I watched it at work and was gagging. I'm home now and a bit drunk, and I played it again from that point, and when it got to the point with the Micro Machines, I almost spewed eggnog out of my nose. Edit: I love the Deep Space Nine tune.
Shouldn't you be comparing the turbo version with the Corvette? I mean, I'd want to look at the 300hp version instead of the 222hp version. I mean it isn't 375, but it's a hell of a lot closer.
I'm much more familiar with the 300Z. From what I can tell from Wikipedia ... the video was comparing the 1990-1992 C4 ZR1 with the LT5 engine producing 375HP to the 1994 (weaker version, normally aspirated) 300Z. The Corvette ZR1 in 1994 (the same year as this 300Z had an MSRP of about $66k. The base model C4 with the LT1 engine from 1994 produced 300HP which was about identical to the turbo 300z. A Car and Driver article calling the 300Z one of the 10 best cars of the year lists the price at $41k. So, the ZR1 he drove and showed is about 50% more money than the 300Z that he drove and showed. So, he looked at the faster much more expensive version of the corvette and compared it to a base model 300z. He also claimed that there were no substantial upgrades between the Z31 and Z32 (roughly time 1:50). The Z32 moved from single overhead cams to dual, and moved from a single turbo to a twin turbo system. They also made airbags standard (I'd call that major), and a short time later made passenger airbags standard. The sexy to glance at HP and torque numbers didn't change much, but car guys look past that. He also whined about a lack of top end grunt in the engine. The exact same engine that was designed to have not one, but TWO turbos providing all of the top end grunt. A normally aspirated 300z might as well be a fucking automatic, it's just not what people in the 90s who really cared about cars got! Sure seems like the real competition for this would be the RX7 (FD), and the Supra (JZA80). Maybe even the 3000GT. There were WAY too many errors in this video's content once I started looking. Really disappointed with this video.
As someone who owned a Z32 N/A I cannot emphasis how wrong RCR is on this review. I've owned a Skyline GT-R, and driven everything from F40's to NSX's to AE86 GT-Apex's to Pinto's. The Z32 handles VERY well. In fact, my N/A Z32 could keep up in the mountains with my buddies FD3S RX-7, albeit his car was clearly not running at its full potential (they get squirrely at the limit) where as mine was slowly oversteering out of the corners in a very neutral manner. The engine sound was gutteral, and sang past 4000RPM all the way up to its 7500RPM redline. It had a beautiful shifter and excellent usability, and unlike the Twin Turbo, was dead reliable. RCR really let me down with this review - The Z32 is an amazing car, even in N/A form.
+DarkHorizons I think it's understandable to not go one. Especially with the c7 I just think... Meh. To aggressive design. Would someone tell me : you have to have a corvette. I would either choose a c2 or c3. But there are so many cars I would prefer over it.
Yeah, I'd take a TT 300ZX over any Corvette made in between 1968 and 2013. I don't care how good the performance of the C5 and C6 is. The association with the trailer park, Bud Light and Donald Trump is too real. C7 though? I'd have to really consider.
i come back to this video one in a while, just for the last four and a half minutes. Now is one of those times, I needed a lasting chuckle to get me through the rest of my day..
If I had to choose between the Corvette and the Z, I would choose the Z. Honestly you see Vettes EVERYWHERE. I think I have seen a maybe five 300ZX's in like the past decade whereas the Vette I see them everyday. No seriously I work security and see them EVERYDAY. "SEEEEEeeeeewwwwwwPHHHHAAAAuuuuuunnnnnccccceeeeeeeeeee" LOL!!!
Yeah I can agree! It was funny because I recently saw not one, but TWO of these at the same location across different days, all of which were souped up like street racers, which is funny because he starts off saying how it aint a racer. I too cannot remember the last time I saw this car.
for years people have been telling me the 300zx was better than my 350z. I love the way the z32 looks but this video taught me the 2 cars are in completely different classes so they're incomparable...only in name
The thing is they aren't in different classes if we're talking about the twin turbo that isn't in this review. A TT Z32 is a better car than the 350z and the gap gets even bigger once you start modding.
+ProfMyronGaines Better... well let's see. Overbuilt VG30 motors from the 90s that have been taken over 550whp time and time again on stock internals. Less weight. Better transmissions that don't have syncro issues (although one less gear, deal with it). Factory turbo system that can get you close to 400whp on stock garretts. And on top of that, looks better.
@@Andrei-eb2duI think we can agree that the base model of every car is going to be worse than the best, it's obviously the entire point of the trim levels. Reviewing the lower model basically just disregards the top trim. That's not why I don't like the guy though. He reviewed the Dodge Stealth and just bashed the hell out of it, kinda similar to what he did to this car. It's helpful to no one to have utterly ridiculous reviews. The stealth review started with "overhyped, overpriced, overly complex, and slow". He missed the entire point of the car in one fell swoop. (Also the stealth was one of the fastest cars of the time so that's simply stupid). I conversed with the owner of the car he reviewed in the comments, and this youtuber was full of shit. In the stealth review for example, he said the engine has to come out for an exhaust gasket leak... blatant lies. Its just not fair review. If you can't see my profile picture, I actually own a 93 3000GT VR4, which is near identical to the stealth, it's the sister car. He just bashes cars with no usefulness, and he's not funnny either. Edit: I actually searched it up, the Stealth ranks 4th fastest in 1991, behind two turbo porsches and a damm F40! "RegularCars" is just a liar...
@@jonathonhebert7042 but most people are going to buy the base model and the guy talks shit about 90% of the cars he reviews, if you don’t like him don’t watch him and he reviews the car with his point of view, in the Stealth review did he say it’s the slowest car of that year? But I guess it’s 2021 and you can’t have an opinion.
@@jonathonhebert7042 and by the way in his reviews he is talking about the car he is driving, not the whole trims, look at the Hellcat review where he bashes Chrysler to hell and then in the Demon he enjoys that car
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! Ain't even mad it isn't the DETT... Stiffer springs will take care of the handling if you want it to eat the twisties quick. You can't ask for much better than a short wheelbase, an engine behind the front wheels and plenty of mid-range torque when you're on a country road. Speaking from experience. 14PSI boost also helps ;) As for the weight, well, it's a tourer...if I wanted a lightweight Nissan sportscar I'd go silvia!
The Silvia isn't a sportscar either. It's an economy car that in some formats has good power and handling. And reviewing a car based on how it could be after mods is bunk. A Prius with mods will out handle and out accelerate a 300zx TT easily.
Z32 marginally outhandled A70 supras from all the best motoring tests they did on track and real life impressions of these are not so good in my opinion. Only thing those cars are really good at is cheap midlife crisis option. Although I love to see Z32s, they are so adequately early 90's.
+DrewLSix And just how many bog-stock Z32s are out there still running on their original 1989-designed OEM factory components? I'd hardly even call new suspension components 'mods'...parts wear out you know...fine, replacement shocks and tyres are 'mods' because they're better than what the car had stock, if you want to be pissy about it, but that doesn't discount anything i said. LSix huh, you're probably a 2JZ or RB guy. I'll let you fight with everyone else about what constitutes a sportscar.
+Hagz Very few, due to the CASE (crank angle sensor) bring faulty in most 1990 production models. They actually produced a 1990.5 that corrected the issue. I loved my Z32's, but they were certainly too darn heavy. Other than that, they were lots of fun, but I prefer my S13's.
Your numbers are wrong when it comes to the Corvette. Base L98 Corvette made 250hp. From 1992 to 1996 Base LT1 Corvette made 300hp. The LT4 (C4 Grand Sport) was rated at 330hp but made closer to 350/360hp. What you're quoting is the ZR1 Corvette up until 1992 that made 375hp and 405hp until 1996. Car and Driver compared the Twin Turbo Z32 with the L98 Corvette (250hp) and the corvette was deemed superior pretty much everywhere when it came to performance (minus top speed pull and top speed because those idiots tested the corvette in 6th gear which is the overdrive. Top speed being achieved in 5th). You can read it here, Circa February 1990 :) www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/1991-chevrolet-corvette-z51-fx3-vs-nissan-300zx-archived-comparison-test Also, you're using the price of a base Corvette but using figures of a ZR-1 Corvette. The 375hp Corvette used to cost around 55000$ if I recall correctly. Over 20k$ more than the 300ZX. So you're right, the L98 base Corvette was indeed a better performer than the 300ZX TT, but not to the extend you explain in this video. Also, the manual Twin turbo 300ZX you tested, is overall a much better performer and faster than a L98 Automatic 4speed Corvette you tested also. For a good comparaison you need a C4 with a ZF6 transmission like the one used in the Car and Driver review.
Of course, but my point was that if the Twin Turbo 300ZX was tested and proven quite inferior to the base L98 Corvette, it's rather obvious that the NA version of the 300ZX is not going to compare. I think the 300ZX was largely misunderstood aas a car. It's always been compared with sports car when in reality it should have been compared to cars like the Supra or other "sporty cruiser". It's not a sport cars in anyway and comparing it with those all the time is not something that can make the 300ZX shine as it would never come close to being as capable.
Fun fact - in 1996 USDM models the manual 300ZX Twin Turbo had 280hp like the auto did due to emissions. These cars were slow stock, you need to mod them to make them fast. It's a sheep in wolves' clothing, but you can make it a beast with very little $.
To agree with the other two replies, the reason people are ripping this review apart is because his background info going in is aggressively wrong and the specific car seems to be a little neglected.
You guys are friggin insane!! LMFAO "sewww fawwwwnseey" Dude I was watching this when my kids were around, and the part where the "micro machines went into the buttocks", I had to rush to pause the video. I would have surely died if I were eating something, and choking from laughing so hard.
It's innacurate.... BUT. For how most of the NA Z32 are treated and what you can actually find nowaday for the majority.... it's accurate. Nobody takes care of them. The kids drift them and breakem.... the adults breakem and lettem sit. Tis sad
If you ever lose the key, The ignition just slides out and all you need are some needle nose pliers to start it. Now if I can just find where ChirsFix lives..
I mightve been upset if any of that nonsensical moaning was even close to the factual.. Guess all the IMSA titles and Le Mans wins and Bonneville records snuck by you while doing your research and somehow Zr-1 stats filled their place?
@@DrewLSsix I imagine he's simply pointing out that rcr characterized the car and its engine as somewhat limp-wristed in the performance category, and offered up its racing success to give it some cred. While this isn't a bad idea (I think everyone can agree that audi's Quattro system wouldn't have been as big without the rally car) he would probably have done better to mention the praises of Road&Track, Car&Driver, Motorweek, and others directed at its impressive handling characteristics.
Lol, your writing is awesome, really enjoyed the video! Now, however, I have a 95 300zx twin turbo and it’s an amazing car. Granted it’s been tastefully modified, it out ran my 911 turbo and came close to my F430.
So many factual inaccuracies and apples to oranges comparisons in this video it makes my head spin... comparing the lowest spec Z32 to the highest spec C4 vette for one, quoting the weight for the heaviest Z32 spec (hint: not the one you drove), and dogging on the performance and handling of the least performance and handling oriented model of Z32... FWIW, apples to apples the Z32 is lighter, faster, better handling, and all around better than a C4 in every way. Not only that but the twin turbo takes incredibly well to even light modifications. Just a new intake and exhaust and a tune will get you close to 400hp. And the factory TT suspension with electronic adjustable dampers and hicas 4-wheel steering, if in good working condition and set to "sport" mode makes it one of the best handling cars on the road. You need to drive a properly maintained twin turbo model, the difference is night and day.
Base 1984 vette Made 205HP Base 1985-1990 Made 245 Base 1991 made 250 1990- 1992 C4 ZR1 made 375 1992-1996(New LT1 engine) made 300HP 1993-1995 ZR1 made 405HP 1996 LT4 made 330HP
He said base corvette in the video. And then mentions stats of an older year zr1 optioned vette, which was almost double the price of the base. it is confusing haha
It is a pleasure to watch your videos. Thank you for not talking numbers without context, being nice guys and doing 'in my opinion' statements. Thank you for telling the story instead.
+fizzyman1224 as a proud owner of an SC300, I will readily say that being faster and having better handling than an SC300 is not much of accomplishment. 😂 Sure, it's "quick" and handles "well", but... At the end of the day the SC is pretty much an indestructible boat on wheels. And man do I love them.
+fizzyman1224 the TT 300zx is much faster than the anemic 2JZGE equipped SC300, but it wouldn't keep up with the JDM TT Soarer. It's a shame the U.S. market never got the 1JZ manual Soarer.
My first car at age 16 in 1991 my mom bought me a 1984 Nissan Datsun 300ZX 2+2 5-speed...1984 was the only year it had both Datsun and Nissan nomenclature on the rear deck-lid...I had never driven a stick before but wanted this car soo bad..not for the speed but because it had every option!! A talking digital dash, digital climate control, power leather seats even power side bolsters, t-tops, Did it mention it talked!!! Right door ajar...Fuel Level is low!! haha..MY parents had a 1980 Camaro that was bought new in 1980 and a 1985 Chevrolet Celebrity so growing up with NO Power options I had to have this car!!! I loved the toys!
So much negativity about the review that isn't really valid. He reviewed the NA model, not the tt so he was right in saying it wasn't really a sports car. He should've compared it to a base C4 though and not a ZR1.
My girlfriend back in the 90s had an Eagle Talon turbo and got a regular 300ZX. It was too boring, so we traded it in for a twin turbo. Now that thing was fun. When you got on it, it would push you back in the seat. We ended up getting a 90 ZR-1. It had 375 hp, not the regular Vettes. Anyway, while it was a faster car, it didn't feel as fast as the twin turbo. It's hard to explain, but something about the turbo boost is more fun.
As a former z32 owner, both NA and TT, I'd like to say this was not a good review as far as performance goes. I can say from experience that my NA would walk a base c4 and my TT which had a few mods (exhaust, intake, 12psi, tune) pulled on c5s. I will say the 300zx had some problems but I'd much rather have a Z than a c4 pile of junk with an LT!
the "So Fancy" part is what makes RCR the best.
Yes!!!
Now, like the Aston review, NEVER do viewer submissions again. Or at least not for a few years.
omg...it’s fucking GOLD...
It's a shame how many times I listen to that part!!
Nah it's definitely the "BROWN" jokes and the "MY BLARHRBALAHRV is better that you're BLARHRBALAHRV"
On styling alone, I'd have the Z. When the choices are something that resembles a Japanese bullet train or a crudely-fashioned wooden doorstop, the correct choice is obvious.
Z32
Japanese bullet train...
It was anything but bullet train-looking.
Have seen numerous Zs and been around a few Shinkansen, I can see the resemblance. Especially compared to the hideous Z31.
Werd. To roughly quote EverydayDriver, "...a spaceship could land in your front lawn and you'd still look at the 300ZX". My TT is anything but a show car but jeeeeeeez the attention it gets...hilarious, man.
NoBrakes23 You look hideous..
Z32 2+2 does feel like driving a bullet train.. a long wide heavy car.... holds the road and the handling somehow gets better the faster you go :)
I think the 300zx has some of the best aerodynamics of any car... I know on paper newer cars apparently have better aero.. but just look at the Z32!! This thing slices through the air! Also don't forget that the Jun/Blitz Z32 did 260mph on the Bonneville Saltflats... fastest record in E/BMS! 260 is Shinkansen territory!
The 300zx looks awesome and the corvette looks like 1982 on the exterior and interior.
300zx still looks great in 2019
But...... the c4 is post1984....
@Brandon Krause the c4 doesnt look like its from '82? Seeing that the c4 is from '84 and after.... just a little nitpick. Doesnt mean much other than what it means.
the 300zx is still slower than the ugliest corvette ever made
That wasn't even a 90 Vette interior.

Did you not hear him saying "naturally aspirated"?
by that logic a rolls Royce is a super car with it's v12 engine, but it isn't, handling and performance matters more than paper figures
K
It's a boat. FWIW the mk4 Supra isn't a sports car, either. Both of them are just frames to hold an overboosted motor for lame drag racing.
It makes sense why the Toyota Supra Turbo ultimately became the Import Tuner’s golden hero car with the overbuilt 2JZ motor, but the Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo and Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 are still cool too.
🤤 mmmmmmm VR4
Sorry RCR but no the base corvette only had 250Hp and 350ft/lbs with the L98. The ZR-1 had 375HP and it had a price close to double that of the 300ZX Turbo.
This episode really needed better fact checking. The Corvette facts were wrong, and what gives with heaping praise on the Z31? He complains about no high end power, that single cam Z31 is worse than the Z32, especially the single turbo version.
+hypocycloidiaspora pretty sure the praise was more based on sales than the actual car.
1992-1996 base corvettes had 300hp and 330-340 ft-lbs of torque, but idk why he used early zr1 figures as the base model ratings....
+hypocycloidiaspora exactly im disappointed with this review the Z32 was a wonderful and fun to drive car especially the turbo version.
the corvette in the video is not a 94 either, does not have the rounded rear end of that model

Moug MeDuro oh well thanks
They do its a fact. Lamborgini didnt have headlights ao the took ones from nissan and coverd them with carbon fiber

Z32 has identical rear suspension to and shares many other parts with the R32 GT-R including the 4 wheel steering, surprised you felt it was a soft ride or not a handling car, the twin turbo owner I know would keep the car out of sport mode most of the time because the sport mode ride was fairly harsh.
*Opinions if you still care:*
I had a passenger compare the cornering sensations (turn in, grip etc) in the stock twin turbo I got to drive, to the S2000 they'd ridden in.
My z32 has an air bag. And its a 1992.
So that's only on the Twin Turbo model than
my '91 has a drivers air bag
I thought the 96 got the LT4 with 330 hp and the LT5 in the Zr-1 was quad cam

Armoured Skeptic wait what. You're on a rcr video?
After reading some of these comments in this video, I fully agree with you on that.
Armoured Skeptic :D
Already feeling the effect as my auto museum has one up on display.
Charlie Ross fucj
Ass n tities
He absolutely fuckin *bombed* the one on the Dodge Stealth, and I knew he would fail at this one when I saw it in my recommended videos.
You guys have too much fun!
But I do appreciate everything else you mentioned and its nice to see these cars getting more widely known
Also if his Z had the largely notorious Det. Sensor issue where the det sensor goes out and throws the ECU into limp mode which is incredibly common then that would make a ton of sense acutally
I had a 90 z32 back in 2005,fucking loved it.... Handled very well. Got alot of compliments too
The 2+2 doesn't handle better. It's heavier and has awkward proportions because of the extra space needed for the back seats .
It should though.. It may be heavier but the longer wheelbase lets it handle better, I dunno what you mean about the awkward proportions either.. The TT models handle better partly from the Super-Hicas but thats if its still working and compared to an NA id personally like to say that the 2+2 is better. Doesnt look stubby either
The 2+2's extra weight on the rear end and wheelbase should add for more balance
This may also just be a preferance thing
In mister regular's world, I'm driving a base 1990 corvette with 375hp...

I'm sorry. Yes. I read the ZR1 numbers instead of Base.
Actually, he was referring to the base corvette with a K&N air filter which everyone knows makes about 374hp. But the "Ain't Skeered" stickers bring them down to around 364ish.

Well... 375HP on a C4??? Hahaha, what have you been smoking Mr. Regular?? :P
I mean, yeah the ZR-1 was a "special high end edition"... but why not comparing it to at least the Twin Turbo Z32?
The first C4s barely had 250HP at most and eventually 330HP with the LT1, not that far fetched from the Z32's TT 300HP claim ;)
yeah I'd say remove about 100hp
Yup. Our '84 C4 is 225hp.... BARELY.
+JHowardDesign my dad says the fastest car he's ridden in was a c4 corvette. that poor poor man.
I caught that too. My 1992 c4 only had around 300-330. i wish it was at 375
I owned an '86 C4 that was a year old.
Haha you’re awesome for that and I totally agree with your viewpoint! The 300ZX has always been way cooler than the 350Z

you can't compare a ZR1 to a non turbo z32. compare it to the standard Corvette
Z31 / Z32...not S....but I agree
The 88-89 Z31 was far better looking than the Bar-Of-Soap Z32....Just the opinion of a lifetime Z car fan.
LS swaps are for idiots. You didn't sound like one until you said that. Just tune it up and don't be an idiot.
Jeremiah
It’s his car, dumbass. You sound like a dumbass as soon as you try to project your bullshit onto others.
I would personally swap in a TT engine, or just twin turbo the stock engine, but I can see why an LS would make sense.
"It isn't a sports car?" Made Car and Driver's top 10 for 10 years in a row.....so yeah, it's a sports car.
Kinda ironic in a way that one of my favorite UA-cam car channels doing basically my favorite car ever (I have a TT...) resulted in my least favorite video of theirs.
welp time to sleep, i have to work in six hou... RCR VIDEO?! fuck da job!
sounds about right
same
its 9 minutes go to bed after
Same
I have work in 1 hour.
Wow... so FANCY, I do declare...
Jeeves, get me a scotch on the rocks.
"We're America! Parts bin to the max!" I spit my drink out laughing so hard.
still gorgeous, that interior is phenomenal
This was a gorgeous car when it came out for the 1990 model year, and I think it is still very attractive today. The twin turbo models were crazy fast with 300 hp. Definitely a car to lust after. The Z cars have always been fantastic vehicles. Performance, looks, reliability... I never got the pleasure of owning one but have driven a few. Sweet rides...
It's 4 AM and I'm watching an RCR video. It was most definitely worth it. I don't need sleep. Soooo fancy..... lol.
Its about 6 AM for me, gentleman.
What am I doing with my life...
The interior of this Z still looks stunning .... ❤️ well-done Nissan !!!
I mean it isn't 375, but it's a hell of a lot closer.
you get what you pay for? I guess this is the reasoning. Faster+part bin or slower+not partbin from Astrovan
Also the base corvette of the time had 250 hp, not 375, that was the ZR-1.
CockatooDude
It was only from 84 til 92 though, during its time Z32 competed primarily with 300-330hp LT engine C4
+zero11010 Haha you really know C4's
It's got Diablo headlights
Car Throttle cancer, no thank you.
+Burstinatrixter what?
+Burstinatrixter wtf ?
*Coughs*
As mister Jamison said, Diablo has Nissan's headlights.
RCR really let me down with this review - The Z32 is an amazing car, even in N/A form.
agreed
Steve Neill look it’s his opinion he thinks it handles like shit and sounds like shit let him be
You're high society, fancy man voice reminds me of Sir James William Bottomtooth III from Family Guy. love it
jordancivic96 God's gift to ballroom notoriety.
Lol
Came for the car review, stayed for whatever the fuck that was at the end.
300z will always be my preference over the vette.
ANY vette.
Even a C7?!?!?!?!!
Look at his name. He will not be reasoned with lol!
+Christopher Johnston hahahaha although im a jdm guy I'd get a c4 cuz yknow speed
So when are you doing a 3000GT VR4?
Has to be the hard top convertible with an auto, or the SOHC 2wd version.
+DrewLSsix and make sure to compare it to a C5 base model with "405" horsepower.
DrewLSsix fuck no jajaj
In typical rcr form (for the Japanese cars anyways) he would find the most abused base model and moan about the over-hyped heaviness it drove like
Got the 1992 SOHC Stealth and I live about an hour away!
dude the base model c4 didnt make 375hp, that was the zr1, you shoulda reviewed a twin turbo though, thats where the car shines
i come back to this video one in a while, just for the last four and a half minutes. Now is one of those times, I needed a lasting chuckle to get me through the rest of my day..
This is one of the most beautiful cars of the 90’s.
You say that untill you drive one, it's miserable
+Kyle Merritt 300zx? Best car I've ever driven. I would love to drive one again
Keep in mind there might be a good reason you don't see them...
Where do you live that you see so few 300zxs? I see them all the time, especially old men with LHD models and young kids with JDM ones
for years people have been telling me the 300zx was better than my 350z. I love the way the z32 looks but this video taught me the 2 cars are in completely different classes so they're incomparable...only in name
now that I think about it the g35 coupe is more of a successor to the 2nd gen z32 then the 350z
The thing is they aren't in different classes if we're talking about the twin turbo that isn't in this review. A TT Z32 is a better car than the 350z and the gap gets even bigger once you start modding.
Only if you define "better" by how complicated and hard to maintain it is.
I have a G35 and a Z32. The G35 is built from paper compared to the Z32. 90's Nissan's were built to a different level pre-renault take over.
And on top of that, looks better.
lmao uses an na z32 to base his opinions on the car as a whole
This guy is a joke...
@@jonathonhebert7042 so if he reviews a V6 mustang and says it’s shit, his opinion isn’t valid because there is a shelby gt500?
This car looks so much better then the 350 and 370Z. The interior is absolutely beautiful as well.
Nice cover of the DS9 theme music.
14PSI boost also helps ;)
As for the weight, well, it's a tourer...if I wanted a lightweight Nissan sportscar I'd go silvia!
You can read it here, Circa February 1990 :)
www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/1991-chevrolet-corvette-z51-fx3-vs-nissan-300zx-archived-comparison-test
Also, you're using the price of a base Corvette but using figures of a ZR-1 Corvette.
But he said this Z was naturally aspirated, not twin turbo.
+traxnada Now let's keep it misunderstood so they wont skyrocket in price.
Just checked my feed. This came in just after 'Last Week Tonight' doing a show on auto-lending.
Same
ah yes, the debt based society. Thanks federal reserve for printing more money and making fake currency. Yay, Debt Slavery!
A base C4 DID NOT HAVE 375 hp. Maybe 275 I had a 95 C4 that put out 300 if I was lucky, and that was at the end of production for the C4.
Fun fact - in 1996 USDM models the manual 300ZX Twin Turbo had 280hp like the auto did due to emissions.
These cars were slow stock, you need to mod them to make them fast. It's a sheep in wolves' clothing, but you can make it a beast with very little $.
"oh no you can't insult my favorite car!" -Everyone, apparently.
Nicholas Doney doesnt matter if its their favorite, he screwed up litterally every fact
Its one thing to be critical. It's another to be critical based on blatantly inaccurate information.
To agree with the other two replies, the reason people are ripping this review apart is because his background info going in is aggressively wrong and the specific car seems to be a little neglected.
They dont own one either...
@@flusteredweasel7483 why is there one in my driveway?
You guys are friggin insane!! LMFAO "sewww fawwwwnseey" Dude I was watching this when my kids were around, and the part where the "micro machines went into the buttocks", I had to rush to pause the video. I would have surely died if I were eating something, and choking from laughing so hard.

6:20 i fucking died lol. i love when the reviews just go off the rails
I pissed myself with "The interior was too low rent and impoverished for the likes of me"
I'm definitely gonna start including the word "impoverished" in my daily vocabulary
"We all know the best things come in by boat; Shoes, wine...art."
One of the best looking cars of all-time. Never ages.
True. Icon status.
Funnily enough compared to its JDM competition it was markedly slower. The VG30DETT could have been more than it was.
Inaccurate review, makes me question the rest of your reviews
nice profile pic
It's innacurate.... BUT. For how most of the NA Z32 are treated and what you can actually find nowaday for the majority.... it's accurate. Nobody takes care of them. The kids drift them and breakem.... the adults breakem and lettem sit. Tis sad
Lamborghini borrowed those headlights!!! How could you not mention that??
Holy crap, that steering column on the corvette looked like my astro van's
It was.
MURICA PART BIN TO THE MAX!!!! after all.
My Fiero is very similar.
If you ever lose the key, The ignition just slides out and all you need are some needle nose pliers to start it. Now if I can just find where ChirsFix lives..
It most likely was. Pretty every Vette before the C7 used interior parts straight from the bin.
I mightve been upset if any of that nonsensical moaning was even close to the factual.. Guess all the IMSA titles and Le Mans wins and Bonneville records snuck by you while doing your research and somehow Zr-1 stats filled their place?
This is not a terribly good example of rcr, but hey, not everything can be one's a-game.
Some Body What’s your point? Race cars are not sports cars, the Z32 was not a sports car no matter how you spin it. It was a touring coupe by design.
You have some nice/expensive cars. What else do you have?
For some reason, lately, I've been watching these videos around 3:00-3:30 AM just before going to sleep
DId the C4 make 375hp? I think the c5 made those numbers.
Base 1984 vette Made 205HP
Base 1985-1990 Made 245
Base 1991 made 250
1990- 1992 C4 ZR1 made 375
1992-1996(New LT1 engine) made 300HP
1993-1995 ZR1 made 405HP
1996 LT4 made 330HP
He said base corvette in the video. And then mentions stats of an older year zr1 optioned vette, which was almost double the price of the base. it is confusing haha
+M Zubro Yes he made many errors with years/Horsepower and numbers.
Thank you for bringing this up, his numbers were waaaay off!
Imagine spending actual Currency on a car with an interior like a Corvette C4.
It is a pleasure to watch your videos. Thank you for not talking numbers without context, being nice guys and doing 'in my opinion' statements. Thank you for telling the story instead.
Has RCR done z31? I love my NA '86 z31. That car is loads of fun to drive, and can even be a little showey
feels like the Nissan equivalent of the Lexus SC300.
Maybe a USDM SC300, but it's miles apart from the JDM UZZ32 Limited
Nah the na z32 handles much better than the sc300. And the tt is much much faster
+fizzyman1224 as a proud owner of an SC300, I will readily say that being faster and having better handling than an SC300 is not much of accomplishment. 😂
Sure, it's "quick" and handles "well", but... At the end of the day the SC is pretty much an indestructible boat on wheels. And man do I love them.
They're two very different cars
+fizzyman1224 the TT 300zx is much faster than the anemic 2JZGE equipped SC300, but it wouldn't keep up with the JDM TT Soarer. It's a shame the U.S. market never got the 1JZ manual Soarer.
It's funny how you praise the Z31 but shit on the Z32. The Z community usually goes the other direction. lol
But the 31 is better
It’s simple: pop ups and D I G I T A L dash and clusters
Am I the only one who like the fancy rant?
Nope :)
negative. ...ow my nipple! now where's that worthless cabin boy!?
Not at all. In fact i get disappointed when he does not go crazy in his reviews.
I loved the toys!
seriously, where has this channel been my whole life? perfect satire, and humor, great job
So much negativity about the review that isn't really valid. He reviewed the NA model, not the tt so he was right in saying it wasn't really a sports car. He should've compared it to a base C4 though and not a ZR1.
Love the Star Trek: Deep Space 9 song/parody! :)
Thank god. For a second there i had thought i was the only one who noticed lol.
I thought it was voyager's theme
Start watching at 5:05 and I dare you not to laugh.
SEW FAUNSEHHH
My girlfriend back in the 90s had an Eagle Talon turbo and got a regular 300ZX. It was too boring, so we traded it in for a twin turbo. Now that thing was fun. When you got on it, it would push you back in the seat. We ended up getting a 90 ZR-1. It had 375 hp, not the regular Vettes. Anyway, while it was a faster car, it didn't feel as fast as the twin turbo. It's hard to explain, but something about the turbo boost is more fun.
Getting a z31 soon and im surprised you haven't done a review on one tbh. Usually come to your videos before i get a new car lol
Brits would say it 300 ZED X
Yes
I believe Canadians would also say the same.
and australians
and New Zealand
I can confirm this. However, I use 'ZED' before the numbers. Example:
300 Zee X
ZED 06
ZED 32
"We know all the best things come in by boat. Shoes, wine, art."
Forgot plantation workers tbh
As a former z32 owner, both NA and TT, I'd like to say this was not a good review as far as performance goes. I can say from experience that my NA would walk a base c4 and my TT which had a few mods (exhaust, intake, 12psi, tune) pulled on c5s. I will say the 300zx had some problems but I'd much rather have a Z than a c4 pile of junk with an LT!
this is my fav review you've done
best comedy to come out of regular car reviews so far
