  • WHY DID RUSSIANS BUILD SUBS BUT NOT CARRIERS?
    The Russian Navy was never really about force projection overseas like the US Navy is, it was always more defensive in nature. Shorter range ships, with less overseas bases to support their Navy. Carriers are really an offensive weapon.
    That and cost, the Russian Navy couldn’t afford them, and didn’t have all the experience of how to man and operate carriers.

    What a pointless explanation.
    Carrier is for projecting a super power beyond its border globally, not to protect the border.
    Soviet or Russian is not capable of (technologically) designing and building advanced aircraft carrier, that is the reason.
    Russian has the Pacific to flex its muscle if their Navy is good enough...forget about Baltic and Black sea.

      And it is so stupid to think that a Russian submarine will be safer than a surface ship in the Baltic sea and Black sea just because you can not see them with your bare eyes.
