  • Covering over 100 miles on this river adventure was just that, an adventure! The first big trip on my Gheenoe was something I wasn't totally sure about but the Apalachicola River in the Florida pandhandle never looked so good.... Can't wait for the next adventure.

    I like your attitude towards PFDs, and those folks who get bent out of shape that you don't wear one. You put it a lot more diplomatically than I might. Seems like a lot of people never were taught, at an early age, that minding one's own business is, by and large, a GOOD thing to do.

    Lets reflect on what we learned today...shall we? 1) Always have a small tool box and a few primary nuts and bolts for the trip. Also a manual for the motor just in case. 2) Bring your own food if you go with Trip. His food tastes like crap! 3) before setting up camp and a place to bed down send Trip on a white paint reconnossaince mission to report places where no white paint was detected. 4) Sand can be real slippery apparently 5) Trip has a real nice mom 6) Cord and rope fascinates Trip to no end with its usefulness and one I will remember during the Christmas holidays

    It was good to see that river again. I spent a lot of time on that river in the late 80's - early 90's dredging to maintain the channel for the paper company up river. The company that I worked for probably built the sand mountain you hammocked on.

    I honestly get why you got the gheenoe I like kayaking but for the working man if you work lots of hours. It’s hard to really plan a traveling schedule in a kayak. I have to do mostly short day trips. I could only imagine if I had to record videos and stuff with it. Wish people give you a break you shoot a lot of great videos. Your a excellent paddle boarder and kayaker. Take you time and enjoy your boat. And also your only required to have a life jacket on a boat to have one on board don’t have to wear it. I get where kayakers are coming from but it’s easier to flip a kayak then any boat. Just keep putting out great videos but remember to do your diving and exploring also with your gheenoe. Awesome job again.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  5 років тому +1

    First time seeing your channel here. I haven’t fished out of a canoe since I was a kid in the 80’s. I found your video while watching videos on canoes. I’ve been kicking around the idea of selling one of my kayaks and my Jon boat, and getting a canoe. And your video makes me want to do that even more. I’m looking at a 14.5ft canoe to pair with a 2.2 hp motor I have. I won’t be doing any 100 mile trips with it, but it should be fun to have on the small lakes and rivers here in KY.

    Been enjoying your videos. And, don’t worry about people’s opinions on the PFD stuff. You’re being far more safe than 99.99% of boaters out there by actually attaching your kill switch to yourself.

    Man, that’s a great trip. I love the boat 🚣‍♀️, very cool. I understand what ur feeling, cause i also once did a long trip by myself on a jetski. Kentucky lake to Gulf of Mexico via Tenn. river and Tenn-Tom waterway, all the way toMobile Ala, ending at “Dog River Marina”. I wish they had Go Pros back then. 630 miles, 5 nights, an adventure also. 😊 Sorry, don’t mean to write a book but ur trip makes me remember 🤔. Congrats on ur trip, i love it 👍🏻 thanks for sharing 😎 ATB from Kentucky (don’t forget “red right returning” lol)

      Give East side boat rides a call. Tell them "Shawn" sent you. They do Taxi service and tours. Since nobody owns little islands in the middle of the river, for the $25 "Taxi" service I simply load my gear in the boat and they drop you off. There are several to choose from. When your ready.....text em, and they come pick you up. They can also drop you off way up river with a kayak and you simply paddle back to them. Oh, and those islands are covered with fire wood from various floods. Have fun!

    I’ve always eaten braunschweiger or any liverwurst spread on a sandwich or cracker with mustard pickle and onion. I’ve never seen it eaten hot out the tube. I love the stuff, but that looked brutal! Try it cold spread on a ritz cracker, I promise it’ll be a better experience.

    The flap on the front of the cushion is called Keder Welt. It's commonly used on boats to fasten enclosures, biminis, etc. You should be able to get a short section of Keder track and fasten it to the front of the seat (possibly even with high-strength double-sided tape so you don't have to put holes in it if you don't want to). You would then slide the welt into the track and snap the snaps to the back (assuming you add the snaps).
    Trip, you probably see marine canvas shops all over the areas you frequent, I bet if you asked around someone would give you a scrap piece of track that would be enough for that cushion.
    I hope that helps, thanks for another great adventure video!

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  5 років тому

      Great info Jason! Thanks for that. I'll see if I can round up some of that track. My father-inlaw is a outboard mechanic who is tinkering with random boat stuff a lot. I'll check with him.
      Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the video!

    Who cares if you wear a PFD or not. I am with ya 100 percent. If the situation doesnt warrant it, dont worry. If you are in rough waters then yeah. I live in Oregon and am inspired by this channel. Inspired enough that i bought a kayak in November 18. I wore a PFD in the cold because a a former Navy sailor, cold water sucks and anything helps. But in the summer even on my 14 footer, i dont wear one unless the situation is sketchy enough to need it... keep on Trip!
