This is even funnier when you see Jeff’s little sigh at 1:33. It looks like he’s so relieved someone’s said those words in that order so he can finally be rid of the curse of that song being stuck in his head for years

It was a quick progression from lumber jack to flapjacks to flip my jacks, batter and voila. Play ball! It was brilliant.

SiznaK Hey, since you commented on it, could you explain that bit to me? I mean I found it hilarious either way but I actually don't know why he said "Play ball". Is that like a "save word" for Improvers or was it just completely random? It certainly cracked Greg and Ryan up, that's for sure, and I love the enthusiasm, lol.^^
SingenStatt Atmen he said play ball after that whole thing about the batter, a word that is also used for the person with the bat in baseball.

Jeff was amazing on improv-a-ganza. He was great on whose line too, but on this show.. god damn.
+Wait What That's cous on Whose Line he was always in the background. There were always games only for Ryan and Colin and stuff for only wayne, so the guest stars - Jeff, Brad, Greg and whoever else they'd have on - never really got to be in the good skits. They were mostly just on Scenes From a Hat, Props or the singing games and stuff like that. On this show, they take turns which is cool cous then you get to see all the performance play all games at some point!
Ryan and Greg are dying in the background. Probably because they weren't listening to the original suggestion and went off completely on a tangent. God, gotta love all of them. XD
Bob Durcash is a beast. If you listen he stays with the whole song, even Chip's batter part at 3:18.

It's a play on the word batter; it's either a mix that's cooked to make pancakes (flapjacks), or it's a player in a game of baseball who swings a bat.
It's based on an old tongue twister 'Betty Botter bought some butter, but she said the butter's bitter and if I put it in my batter it will make my batter bitter but a bit of better butter will make my batter better'.. It goes on but you get the idea....the 'Play Ball!' was just added genius

Thx!! I love to learn something new from a diferent culture. Just the other days someone teach me an old senegalese lullubay, Sona or Noma something, i cant remember the name, but it had a lovely melody. I hope i could find it in the internet to download it. I will look up for that Betty Botter tongue twister :) If you want to learn one in spanish search for Maria Chucena haha.

Which came later.
The second he stood up they started laughing, there was a delay between "play ball!" and the laughing, so unless that half of the stage had some temporary buffering issues, I don't think they lost it at that.

Uh.. at this point.. each one of them has 25+ years of experience. At least~ and a ton of that was with the same group fairly often.

The music is prepared beforehand and played for Chip and Jeff, to give an idea what they might have to sing to. Then Ryan and Greg have that list to choose from. In other words, if a music style is _not_ on that list, they can't choose it. It's still genius because they have no idea what the song topic or titles might be, so they're still coming up with the lyrics on the spot.
You wouldn't even know this is improv, it's amazing!

In Whose Line... he's rarely a spectator and I imagine he has good discipline not to crack up most of the time when he's participating. When there's others doing the singing bit he can just relax and enjoy it. Plus, I think he's got to the stage of his career when he can be more relaxed about things anyway.

Zwordsman Download the video as an mp3 (use Google and you'll find like to sites that do that). Then simply download one of the free softwares out there that transforms parts of mp3s into a ringtone. Depends on whether you use Mac or PC, but it's doable on both :)

What's so great about this that some people miss, if you're aware of the rules of improv, Greg and Ryan were tossing Chip and Jeff something they knew they wouldn't like as a fun little jab, but Jeff decided "screw it, I'm owning it!" and Chip got in on it, and wonderfully done.

Jeff and Chip were always my favorite occasional cast members from Whose Line, so it probably obvious how much I like them on here.
I love how Jeff's goal is to be goofy while Chip is working to harmonize and actually sing verses.

I thought they were laughing at how good they improvised this song. When Chip did the "the batter the batter is soft as silk" he didn't miss a beat and the piano by chance fit perfect. The "play ball" improvisation made me laugh because of how well it fit for a kids song...referencing a baseball batter. it just sounded great and made me spit my food laughing

This is one of the most beautiful things I think that I have seen in a long time. I have seen all of the improvaganzas posted on UA-cam and I honestly think it is way better than Whose Line. . . probably because these guys are allowed to govern themselves on stage rather than bow to studio heads.
