A year and a half of wearing hijab full time as a revert of 3 years alhamdulilah. Getting rid of social media deprogrammed me from the “competition” in society for women to appear a certain way. We are so much deeper than our appearance and I truly feel more beautiful this way knowing I’m pleasing Allah SWT. May Allah make it easy for all our sisters struggling with tabaruj! Allah made us in his perfect image!

Your story is so inspiring. I'm a revert, have been wearing hijab for the whole time, but makeup has been a huge obstacle for me. I dunno why, because personally when I see other hijabis going makeup free, I really think they look so much more beautiful allowing their inner glow to shine through. Makeup covers all that up, it's ridiculous really. It's counter productive. Detaching oneself from the Dunya is a painful process, but once it has been accomplished that is when Allah really shows us things and helps us grow, but we need to be willing.

When I put on my hijab a coworker asksd me if my husband told me to put it on. I told her that I don't have a husband and that I did it because God told me to do it. She just started at me. 😆

@@abcdefg6322 the truth of the supreme is one and universal. The truth makes perfect sense as we understand it. There’s a huge difference between what God says, what people understand, traditions and the perspective of some people that were with the prophet over a thousand years ago living in a very primitive times, and haven’t attained enlightenment themselves. God has asked women to cover the pockets that show cleavage to protect her from who? From men! Asked for modesty and not extremism.
Men at that time used to bury female babies under the soil out of shame, many men in the Arab world still bury women alive under a big black tent out of shame and fear of themselves. Instead of letting women to be free and they evolve through Her medicine, they cover her therefore still stuck in the 6th century living out alignment with our time, still looking scary from some centuries ago. Their life is grey, streets are dirty, no life!
If they were really following the laws of nature, or God, they would be in a much better living situation. There are divine fruits to the right path, and they are not manifested in the Muslim world at all. What we see in the Muslim world is division, weakness, stupidity, devolution, dirt, poverty. Their animals, land and women are very tired sick looking.

Alhamdulillah, I am a new revert and I enjoy wearing my Hijab. for like the last two years prior to reverting I wanted to start dressing modestly. I do see a lot of the sisters aren't like simple with their modestly but again to each their own. I want just simple modesty. Thank you Charlene for your openness and vulnerability

This conversation has really touched my heart. Im so grateful for this conversation. I was raised Christian but I’m so drawn to Islam. I started to leave behind fashion styling in 2021 because it didn’t feel correct. You asked great questions and gave Charlene the room to fully express herself. Thank you Charlene for being so brave, it’s brave to share you’re journey when you still haven’t got all the answers. Starting over is scary and people are judgemental but Allah knows best and I believe he will lead the way for us. I don’t believe he gave us creative abilities for nothing, it’s about finding the correct way to use them. Even on your new path you are still inspirational and a bright light! Jazakallah Khairan

I relate so much to the pressure of wearing the hijab and feeling you can’t be yourself in public. I immigrated from a muslim country to the US and the feeling of being different from everyone makes me extremely self conscious. I have to think of every single thing I do in public because with the hijab you already catch people’s eyes, but then if you also do something out of the ordinary, people will notice quickly. I even make myself smile to everyone and be extra friendly so that they know I am not some weirdo that wants to harm other people…
It’s just really hard being under a microscope all the time 😢

I could totally relate!! The first podcast i listened to from beginning till the end, cuz the constant struggle of taking decisions if this is correct within our deen or not is so relateable. Being a young woman in today‘s society with social media pressure to look a certain way is very unhealthy on us!! May Allah swt bless us all for our efforts. It‘s really a gift to be able to think this way and be concerned with our actions, it means allah loves us and wants us to go to jannah, that is why we‘re concerned with our actions in this temporarily dunya. We just need to keep in mind that we want to go to Jannah and we can sacrifice anything for it!❤

Sister Charlene is an inspiration. She should not feel that everything she did is a waste. While I completely understand and respect her position with regards to make up (and actually agree with it), having the skills to be able to edit a video can actually prove to be useful. I would encourage her to use the skills to make videos for the sake of an Allah swt. This does not need to necessarily feature her directly. We are in great need for more Islamic content for children for example. There is a lot that she can contribute to other creators as well if she were to lend out her services. This would be a way to the “negative” of her past into something positive and actually be an active form of repentance. All of us are on this journey together in this life, and none of us are perfect, each of us with our own version of make up tutorials. Continuing to strive towards bettering ourselves, for the sake of Allah swt all we can continue to do.
As always, a huge thanks also to Jaafar for an excellent conversation. This podcast is incredible. May Allah bless all of your efforts

As a 36 year old woman who grew up here and have been wearing hijab at the age of 10, I truly don’t understand why girls are making hijab bigger than what it is. If you are confident in Allah, in his rulings and judgement, and in hijab, then you don’t need to keep questioning hijab, feeling lonely, or all having all the lack of self confidence for wearing it. It might be just me or there might be a few others like me, but hijab is not all that hard if you’ve truly understood the meaning behind it and if your goal is only to make Allah and Imam Almahdi happy with you.
