Dragon's Dogma 2 was already one of my most anticipated games of 2024, the most recent updates make me even more pumped. This game is looking fantastic.
The original game was overshadowed by Skyrim and seriously underrated. Allowing characters to climb large foes lead to interesting and unique battle situations. I did hate the "romance" system though. Anyone who played it will likely have horror stories of their character somehow falling in love with a random merchant or blacksmith just because you spent too much time shopping there.
I love dragons dogma,and the dark arisen definitely helped raise the bar for the game. It's the absolute best 6/10 game I've ever played. The combat and pawn system are GOAT. However there is so much jank in the game to really make it a go-to recommendation for most people. This sequel has so much potential, especially in the hands of today's Capcom.
I wouldn't really call it a "romance" system per se, but more like an affinity system. The more you interact with or gift an NPC, the more they like you. Or you can just gift a specific ring to max out someone's affinity. I think it's called the Arisen Ring?
Some of my favorite parts about DD1 was how incredibly dark it was. PITCH BLACK. I loved it so much , get light source or suffer. I also loved that magical lights were almost blinding while physical/force lights were much easier to see in. I feel like with a lantern i could see but with spell light i couldnt. I loved DD1 so much and its dark atmosphere made the DLC so good

In the IGN gameplay I noticed the Pawns had a conversation with each other where one said "I know of this, I can show you the way!" and the other pawn responded "I'm all for that, it'll be nice to have someone else take the lead for once!" or something along those lines. I also noticed the pawns give each other a fist bump during the warrior gameplay after defeating the ogre. So cool.
That was the arisen an pawn, the game gives us cool interactions like that now There was a clip from some demo gameplay of the player getting a drink and getting drunk It was also interested because the arisen appears to be wearing a beastren mask, which is a piece of equipment in the game that can disguise humans as a beastren
@@SkireWolf488 Nope. It was the pawns Sophia and Rothgar during the sorcerer gameplay from IGN. Unless Capcom has completely changed the Arisen from the first game, the Arisen is a voiceless protag. Only lines they've got are the Pawn commands and various grunts lol.

I already liked the pawns in DD1 in all their jank and I'm so excited for the new little bits and bobs to make them feel even more like companions. For some reason I always really like your videos. Doesn’t matter if they are sponsored or not. They always makes me feel good. There’s a cozy-ness to it. You are never rushing through a video.. It’s like a 20min long show, with lots of good information and personal thoughts.. it’s like back in the day here in Denmark, in the 90’s. We had a 25 minute show on TV, dedicated to games, movies, and cartoon magazines. And I was glued to the screen everytime it was on. No matter the content.. I let my kid brother play Dragons Dogma when he was 11, he played it for THOSUANDS of hours and whenever a new game came out and he'd play it, he'd always say "It's not as fun as Dragons Dogma". I ruined my brother successfully. He is now a working adult as well and we are both way beyond hyped for the sequel.
Love that this series is getting the love it deserves. I remember playing the game when it first came out and it always blew my mind why it never took off

I've never been scared of wandering at forest at night time only light of my torch shining brightly, then a group of undead corpses raises from the ground.
being low level and hearing that wuuu wuuu wuuu kaaa kaaa kaaa kaaaa in the night was always the experience I imagined I would feel in an isekai setting.
never been scared of the living dead but I will admit the dark ambience mix with the creepy things they mumble definitely makes the spine shiver… “ My baby “🧟♀️
This may seem insignificant but what I really enjoyed most about the first game was the complexity of the gearing system, for example; the fact that you could layer your armor and every piece would be visible on your character. Of course, there are many more things that I enjoyed. It would be nice to see them push this facet even further. Also hope the food still spoils!
Skyrim in November 2011 was still gripping people by May of 2012 when this released sadly. BUT! I was lucky enough to find this before it came out so I still remember sitting in my living room with the disk in hand, slipping it into the Xbox and grabbing my coffee only to find that my coffee was freezing 6 hours later when I took a break. GOSH! I love it. Can't wait for 2.
The Pawns are interesting not because of the shared experience - the interesting thing about them is that they were like pokemons! You could explore the world with your desired pawn and recruit them again and actually see them growing beside you (if the player was active) My friends had DD and we used our 3 pawns until the end of days
I remember getting a pawn who's owner was apparently a thief lol.. I'd be in peoples houses and they would just take everything that wasn't nailed down 😂
This game has the potentiel to do for the action RPG's genre what Baldurs Gate did for story driven turned based RPG's. Pushing it to before unseen heights. The future looks exciting .
yeah loving some of the new mechanics like resting to be able to recover health fully and pawns being useful in other ways like knowing different languages. It makes the world building more in depth.

Warrior and Sorcerer are actually the Advanced Vocation verison of Fighter and Mage basic vocations. Not to be confused with hybrid vocations (magick archer, mystic spearhand, etc)
You can get the first game for 5 dollars pretty regularly on steam, and used copies for the various consoles (even switch! It runs very well on switch.) are very cheap. The first game is exactly what you’re seeing in the second game, just, you know, from ps3 era. You can absolutely get your fix rn. I love monhun and its the open world monhun I always wanted.
I’m late to the party. Saw the footage of 2 and decided to try the first one to see if I’d like the 2nd. I love it and can’t stop playing. The first one is kind of what I wanted FFXVI to be. I’m too excited for the 2nd

I'll never forget being out to sleep and picked up by a harpy. Up and up she flew before dropping me, my main pawn was a strider, so she jumped, double jumped grabbed me mid air and landed with me before loudly yell "I have you master". Fugging epic
The problem with Dragon’s Dogma is the start is pretty slow burn. If the average quit time of a game is within 1-2hrs then I can understand why people just stopped and wandered away (to play Skyrim). But if you keep going it just gets better and better until you realise it’s such a unique RPG.

i love the weight and height sistem from the original if you have a small and slim character u climb faster and fit in small places but u cant hold or trow heavy enemies, and viceversa with bigh/tall characters, also the pawns telling me "hey remember u have a date to bang the queen" was a nice way to remind you about quest without using menus or a fix text in the screen.
Now that's a great video and I can't wait to get my hands on the game, and I already have it pre-order.And I fell in love with the first game and I was praying for a sequel,and I am so glad that it's on the way.And keep up the great work that you are doing!
It's the Pawn system and how immersive the world was in DD/Dark Arisen. Plus, no other game at the time made spell-casting seem so realistic when you or a pawn who specialized in magic would cast a spell to enhance your combat skills. Fell in love with it in high school, purchased it on my first PS3 console, got Dark Arisen for the PS4, got it again for the Switch, played it on Xbox... And now, I shall dive into the world of Dragon's Dogma 2 on next gen. CANNOT wait.
one of my favourite things about pawns is when you hire another player's, you can give it gifts to give to the other player. and they can give you gifts. i always gave a potato or something lol
Hearing its 4x larger is welcome. A lot of open world games have gott4en far too large and bloated, but DD world was too small, esp with the large scale creatures, combat, and cities
I've been playing it for the first time atm and it's funny how close everything is and they want me to believe this isn't a failed country, bruh you got basically a seige happening with bandits existing 1 foot outside the walls 😂
Yeah and the open areas had those corridors between them, so it wasn't one open map, it was several small open areas stitched together. It still worked, but it'll be so much better, here
20:15 there was the mystic knight class which wore heavy armor and had combat utility spells. I loved it, would enchant my weapon with fire and smack that ball of energy and throw fire balls
The pawn system was amazing. Adventuring at night was something else and there was a sense of adventure to this game that few others managed to capture.
I never thought I would see games like Elden Ring and Dragons Dogma 2 and have a whatever attitude towards the next elder scrolls, thanks you letting me down ahead of time Todd.
My favorite vocation in DD1 was the Warrior. The sheer amount of brute strength and damage you could do was amazing, especially with the Arc of Deliverance skill. What makes it even cooler is that you create mini explosions of fire from slamming your hammer down so hard. Since DD2 will probably be even grindier, I hope they add more vocation ranks and skills, and more upgrades to them. Looking forward to the release!
Man, Seeing your character get yeeted is amazing, Love the fact that they went ahead and added as many funny aspects as possible to the game. The experience should be fun at it's core.
You made a mistake on the vocations. There are 4 staring vocations which is fighter,archer,theif and mage, they've shown 2 advanced vocations which were warrior and sorcerer and two hybrid vocations magic archer and mystic spear hand
I prefer single player experiences far more, however with this game in particular I feel as though co-op would be so fucking amazing. Like a D&D campaign
I loved all the magic spells in dragons dogma, the dark arisen. The spells were hard to cast but powerful and rewarding, like a 6 second cast to summon a huge tornado that will wreck everything in its pass and have the screen shake changing upon intensity. It's just awesome. I hope they carry over this kind of gameplay for sure!!
I saw the video and if this game has all this that you guys are describing, it has the potential dethrone so many gaming companies and usher us all into an insanely high level of gameplay, raising the stakes for everyone.
Legit the only thing disappointing me, but I hoped they'd add was the pugilist vocations. They scrapped it in development of the First game, but they could still add it to this in a dlc maybe
The harpy flying thing you could do in dark arisen i think, but one of thoese badass grigoi things to get on top to get a statue in some room, i didn't do it myself but it existed in that game too, you probably couldn't steer it though, not sure :)
I played a little of the first game to get me ready for this game and I just can’t wait to try every single build. Even the magic archer catches my eye.
When Dragon's Dogma first came out I picked it up on XBOX. I loved it so much that when it came out on PC, it was a no brainer for me to buy it immediately. Just an overall great game. The only flaw I saw in it was the chatter from the pawns.
The lion warrior sounds so cool to play, my very first successful Elder Scrolls character was a Khajiit. Dragon's Dogma 2 character and environment designs look nice and balanced, and so did DD1.
I just hope they keep the original design of grigori he had such a classical but also uniquely distinctive design if that makes any sense he might be my fav dragon in games
You got the vocation system wrong. The warrior and sorcerer are advanced versions of the fighter and mage, respectively. And the mixed vocations are just that, mixed vocations. Im not sure of the advanced versions of the archer or thief as it was originaly just called the strider in dd1.
The issue I did not know existed until I saw it on Steam one day, and it is one of the best games I played last year. So I can imagine many people did not even know about it.
Resting in original dragon's dogma was used to connect to the server and claim the rewards your pawn got from adventuring with other Arisen. That's probably the second reason for why they implemented a loss gauge that forces you to rest.
for 2012 the the game was paving the way for the future it was ahead of its time and now we get to see the fruits of what dg1 made with the sequel and im beyond amped for it

Been over 10 years since dark arisen was released and it still has quite a few people playing, always see several threads of up to a year old where people ask for hints/tips about stuff in dark arisen
Hell yeah! Thanks for the update! I loved this game since the beginning and actually heard opposite reviews that it was too generic and boring but... never felt that way personally. Glad it's received enough love to FINALLY get us a sequel!
I initially tried it on PS3, but the frame rate was horrible. Shelfed it, then picked up at PC launch so I could play this epic game at a real frame rate. Such a unique game, feels like a real adventure.
I will say that I am slightly concerned by the lowered variety of each vocation as it seems they can only equip one type of weapon not just at a time but period, perhaps this will be mitigated by having more skills to choose from amd being able to swap skills more readily than having to drop everything and go to a major settlement to do so but we don't have enough to go on to tell yet
I still remember playing DD demo on ps3. A battle against a griffon. I was mounting it and it flew high up the sky. I stabbed it a few times and then fell down 50 meters and died. I instantly purchased the full version. But I still hate that DD2 has no coop. Would be the perfect game for me and my wife. Guess we stick to Remnant 2 and MHW
I have been wanting a second Dragons Domag game to be developed for years. Can remember posting as such in a forum a few years ago & a fair few other people on the sub basically saying to keep on wish it, that was never going to happen etc. I am so glad they were incorrect in their assumptions. I loved the original, the pawn system/mechanic absolutely made the game for, I can't wait to see what they have added to it /how they have tweaked it etc.
Dragon's Dogma seemed like the videogame adaptation of what 80s phantasy films looked/felt like, and that is something that I really liked about the first one. I'm happy that the same essence returns with the sequel.
So there are stones in the first game, you approach the stones and go into "The rift" Where you can see all the other players pawns and you can recruit 2 of them. You have your "Main Pawn" who stays with you the whole way and when you rest at an in it uploads your pawn with its new stats to the rift so other players can recruit your pawn for their party. Cool thing was, when you were finished using someones pawn you could send them back with a gift and a review and the player who created that pawn would get it all in a lovely message. While your pawn is with someone else, Lets say you just completed Quest "A" and the person who recruited your pawn has just started Quest "A", Your pawn will tell them about the quest, giving them hints and tips.
A pawn could be rented out to someone else. Say your pawn gets rented by someone further than you and does a quest or fights a monster you haven’t yet. The pawn can then come back learning something and voice it out during your gameplay
One of the things that makes those Pawn interactions so funny is that they're.. not actually "people," they're just a human-shaped tool that is emulating human behavior, emotions and the like (until something happens much, much later). So in practice, you basically have less-than-dog-brain robots that periodically deliver this out of nowhere encouragement.. even if you just absolutely got thrashed, and it is ENTIRELY "in character" 😅
"A little rough". You'd think dev's would want someone competent at their game to showcase it instead of handing it to someone almost completely oblivious. Both the warrior and the mage gameplay were like nails across a chalkboard. These kinds of decisions is what makes it take a decade+ for anyone to appreciate the dev's work. First impressions are the most important, this has been wisdom for generations and they just shrug, shake someone's hand, puke on their shoes and move along like nothing happened.

actually they already made a dragons dogma sequel. It was a MMORPG tho. Only saw a japanese release, never made it far enough for global release

it was the time skyrim was picking ,even more, up after the release of their modding tools back in february of that year if i remember correct ,
Dark Souls was also picking up around that time after coming out in september the 2011 so DD1 just got super unlucky at the time

Bitterblack Isle was brutal and a nightmare sometimes but that made the game even better

i love the weight and height sistem from the original if you have a small and slim character u climb faster and fit in small places but u cant hold or trow heavy enemies, and viceversa with bigh/tall characters, also the pawns telling me "hey remember u have a date to bang the queen" was a nice way to remind you about quest without using menus or a fix text in the screen.
Now that's a great video and I can't wait to get my hands on the game, and I already have it pre-order.And I fell in love with the first game and I was praying for a sequel,and I am so glad that it's on the way.And keep up the great work that you are doing!
It's the Pawn system and how immersive the world was in DD/Dark Arisen. Plus, no other game at the time made spell-casting seem so realistic when you or a pawn who specialized in magic would cast a spell to enhance your combat skills. Fell in love with it in high school, purchased it on my first PS3 console, got Dark Arisen for the PS4, got it again for the Switch, played it on Xbox... And now, I shall dive into the world of Dragon's Dogma 2 on next gen. CANNOT wait.
The blood in fights is cool but it’s a bit odd that it just disappears instead of splashing on the ground.

one of my favourite things about pawns is when you hire another player's, you can give it gifts to give to the other player. and they can give you gifts. i always gave a potato or something lol
Hearing its 4x larger is welcome. A lot of open world games have gott4en far too large and bloated, but DD world was too small, esp with the large scale creatures, combat, and cities
I've been playing it for the first time atm and it's funny how close everything is and they want me to believe this isn't a failed country, bruh you got basically a seige happening with bandits existing 1 foot outside the walls 😂
Yeah and the open areas had those corridors between them, so it wasn't one open map, it was several small open areas stitched together.
It still worked, but it'll be so much better, here
I'm replaying the first one now & thoroughly enjoying my time! Cannot wait for the 2nd game.

20:15 there was the mystic knight class which wore heavy armor and had combat utility spells. I loved it, would enchant my weapon with fire and smack that ball of energy and throw fire balls
Its descendant is the Magic Spearhand which is also a shell of the spirit lancer class from Dragon's Dogma Online
The pawn system was amazing. Adventuring at night was something else and there was a sense of adventure to this game that few others managed to capture.
I never thought I would see games like Elden Ring and Dragons Dogma 2 and have a whatever attitude towards the next elder scrolls, thanks you letting me down ahead of time Todd.
Bethesda had their time to shine, let the other guys get their time, especially DD2
My favorite vocation in DD1 was the Warrior. The sheer amount of brute strength and damage you could do was amazing, especially with the Arc of Deliverance skill.
What makes it even cooler is that you create mini explosions of fire from slamming your hammer down so hard.
Since DD2 will probably be even grindier, I hope they add more vocation ranks and skills, and more upgrades to them.

Man, Seeing your character get yeeted is amazing, Love the fact that they went ahead and added as many funny aspects as possible to the game. The experience should be fun at it's core.
You made a mistake on the vocations. There are 4 staring vocations which is fighter,archer,theif and mage, they've shown 2 advanced vocations which were warrior and sorcerer and two hybrid vocations magic archer and mystic spear hand
From what I've seen from this game, I definitely have to go back and try Dragon's Dogma 1.
I'm very hyped for this game, but I have to say that I'm a bit dissapointed that it doesn't have multiplayer co-op.

I prefer single player experiences far more, however with this game in particular I feel as though co-op would be so fucking amazing. Like a D&D campaign
I loved all the magic spells in dragons dogma, the dark arisen. The spells were hard to cast but powerful and rewarding, like a 6 second cast to summon a huge tornado that will wreck everything in its pass and have the screen shake changing upon intensity. It's just awesome. I hope they carry over this kind of gameplay for sure!!
I saw the video and if this game has all this that you guys are describing, it has the potential dethrone so many gaming companies and usher us all into an insanely high level of gameplay, raising the stakes for everyone.

Legit the only thing disappointing me, but I hoped they'd add was the pugilist vocations. They scrapped it in development of the First game, but they could still add it to this in a dlc maybe
The harpy flying thing you could do in dark arisen i think, but one of thoese badass grigoi things to get on top to get a statue in some room, i didn't do it myself but it existed in that game too, you probably couldn't steer it though, not sure :)
I played a little of the first game to get me ready for this game and I just can’t wait to try every single build. Even the magic archer catches my eye.
When Dragon's Dogma first came out I picked it up on XBOX. I loved it so much that when it came out on PC, it was a no brainer for me to buy it immediately. Just an overall great game. The only flaw I saw in it was the chatter from the pawns.
We are in another golden age for Capcom with their latest stuff.
DD was such underrated game, i play it more times then skyrim
The lion warrior sounds so cool to play, my very first successful Elder Scrolls character was a Khajiit. Dragon's Dogma 2 character and environment designs look nice and balanced, and so did DD1.
I just hope they keep the original design of grigori he had such a classical but also uniquely distinctive design if that makes any sense he might be my fav dragon in games
I picked up first game on sale a few days ago. It's a great game. I'm loving it and it's made me really excited for Dragons Dogma 2.

Decided to start fresh once again and do a play through on my Steam Deck. Literally my favorite action RPG.
I picked up the first game recently on PS5 for about $5 on sale, and have been enjoying it quite a bit.
You got the vocation system wrong. The warrior and sorcerer are advanced versions of the fighter and mage, respectively. And the mixed vocations are just that, mixed vocations. Im not sure of the advanced versions of the archer or thief as it was originaly just called the strider in dd1.
Can't wait. got all versions of dragons dogma since Xbox 360. hundreds of hours into that. man i can't wait!
The issue I did not know existed until I saw it on Steam one day, and it is one of the best games I played last year. So I can imagine many people did not even know about it.
Resting in original dragon's dogma was used to connect to the server and claim the rewards your pawn got from adventuring with other Arisen. That's probably the second reason for why they implemented a loss gauge that forces you to rest.
for 2012 the the game was paving the way for the future it was ahead of its time and now we get to see the fruits of what dg1 made with the sequel and im beyond amped for it

Been over 10 years since dark arisen was released and it still has quite a few people playing, always see several threads of up to a year old where people ask for hints/tips about stuff in dark arisen

Hell yeah! Thanks for the update! I loved this game since the beginning and actually heard opposite reviews that it was too generic and boring but... never felt that way personally. Glad it's received enough love to FINALLY get us a sequel!

I was obsessed with it when it came out
My most anticipated game and it's not even close.
I initially tried it on PS3, but the frame rate was horrible. Shelfed it, then picked up at PC launch so I could play this epic game at a real frame rate. Such a unique game, feels like a real adventure.
I will say that I am slightly concerned by the lowered variety of each vocation as it seems they can only equip one type of weapon not just at a time but period, perhaps this will be mitigated by having more skills to choose from amd being able to swap skills more readily than having to drop everything and go to a major settlement to do so but we don't have enough to go on to tell yet

So how does it work that you know what quests another toon's pawn have done?
I still remember playing DD demo on ps3. A battle against a griffon. I was mounting it and it flew high up the sky. I stabbed it a few times and then fell down 50 meters and died. I instantly purchased the full version.
But I still hate that DD2 has no coop. Would be the perfect game for me and my wife. Guess we stick to Remnant 2 and MHW
I have been wanting a second Dragons Domag game to be developed for years.
Can remember posting as such in a forum a few years ago & a fair few other people on the sub basically saying to keep on wish it, that was never going to happen etc.

I loved the original, the pawn system/mechanic absolutely made the game for, I can't wait to see what they have added to it /how they have tweaked it etc.

Dragon's Dogma seemed like the videogame adaptation of what 80s phantasy films looked/felt like, and that is something that I really liked about the first one. I'm happy that the same essence returns with the sequel.

what does it mean when he says the pawns can learn things from other players? this is open world? and you can hire a pawn from previously user?
So there are stones in the first game, you approach the stones and go into "The rift" Where you can see all the other players pawns and you can recruit 2 of them. You have your "Main Pawn" who stays with you the whole way and when you rest at an in it uploads your pawn with its new stats to the rift so other players can recruit your pawn for their party. Cool thing was, when you were finished using someones pawn you could send them back with a gift and a review and the player who created that pawn would get it all in a lovely message. While your pawn is with someone else, Lets say you just completed Quest "A" and the person who recruited your pawn has just started Quest "A", Your pawn will tell them about the quest, giving them hints and tips.
A pawn could be rented out to someone else. Say your pawn gets rented by someone further than you and does a quest or fights a monster you haven’t yet. The pawn can then come back learning something and voice it out during your gameplay

Finished the original then the dark arisen expansion and it is the 9ne of the best games I ever played.
I hope this game and Crimson Desert are amazing and set a new standard for games

One of the things that makes those Pawn interactions so funny is that they're.. not actually "people," they're just a human-shaped tool that is emulating human behavior, emotions and the like (until something happens much, much later).
So in practice, you basically have less-than-dog-brain robots that periodically deliver this out of nowhere encouragement.. even if you just absolutely got thrashed, and it is ENTIRELY "in character" 😅

"A little rough". You'd think dev's would want someone competent at their game to showcase it instead of handing it to someone almost completely oblivious. Both the warrior and the mage gameplay were like nails across a chalkboard. These kinds of decisions is what makes it take a decade+ for anyone to appreciate the dev's work. First impressions are the most important, this has been wisdom for generations and they just shrug, shake someone's hand, puke on their shoes and move along like nothing happened.
