A smart consumer is an informed consumer: This video is hopefully me doing my part in making sure no one gets roped in by the endless feed of "Elden Ring Killer" and "Better than Skyrim" I've seen recently. Haven't been this excited for a game in a while, precisely because of a lot of the stuff covered in the video, just want to make sure people know what they're getting themselves into! Also, Subscribe! DD2 is almost here, and I'll have A LOT to say about it once it is!
i really appreciate when fans of a game do stuff like this. so many default to "not all games are meant for you" and leave it like that-- it comes off as gate keeping elitism which might have the opposite effect on some folks, which then sets them up for failure/disappointment. what you did is "this game might not be for you, and here's why" purely informative and simply letting folks know what's up. while i'm a fan of the original dragons dogma, dark souls, and so on, not enough fellow fans make the effort to properly inform potential fellow fans. keep up the great work~
Much appreciated, I love your honestly, I remember Dragon’s Dogma with great fondness and am excited to see this game come out. But, you need to know what to expect.
Yep!! I felt the same way about Alan Wake 2... When I saw how hyped it was getting I got pretty nervous because it's, y'know, a Remedy game. I knew it was gonna be a bizarre janky AA mess despite appearances, and that's what it is. Still my favorite game of 2023.
If anything, it should not be like Elden Ring or Skyrim, at all! Dragon's Dogma is its own thing and we love that about it. If it improves upon what makes it Dragon's Dogma and ups the ante in a few other things, then it will be the game we dream of!
i didn’t play the OG Dragon’s Dogma, as I got it when Dark Arisen came out, but man was the experience that I had with DDDA such an uniquely crafted experience. I bought it 3 times with many hours, one for my Xbox 360, another for my Xbox One, and again for my PS5. It’s not a game for everyone, but for those that enjoy this type of games, it is one of the best ones out there! Very excited
The sense of discovery in games has always been a soft spot for me. This isn't just a game. It's an adventure. The lack of knowledge about the game just makes me even more excited!
@@kayodoubleu3310 The only game I've seen doing that succesfully is Outward. It's divided by some somewhat big zones and you have a map of your current zone, but no mini-map nor markers. You have to actually see the points of interest to know more or less where you are. I think maybe having the option to turn off the mini-map in DD2 would be cool, but the world being way larger than it was before (which was already about the size of 3 zones in Outward I'd say), it's almost mandatory to indicate the player location. Tho, I don't know, now there's carriages and different biomes and stuff, so maybe it's easier to be less dependent on a map.
@@Hambs23 Yeah Outward did it great. I love it. Fromsoft also managed a big open world without a minimap. So it is possible. Minimap is just a relict of the past that have to die already.
I think having the option for a mini-map would be better. I’m sure many would love to turn it off, but then there’s people like me who can get lost in a grocery story 😂 nevermind a giant world in a game 😂😂
Just so you can feel a little bit more special for not being the mainstream....are you some special kind of stupid? They want to sell as many games as possible
Dragon's Dogma 2 is it's own thing as a unique entry in the action RPG genre. It's one of the examples that shouldn't be compared because there's nothing else like it.
I found souls games when i wanted something adjacent to monsterhunter they are very different experince yet adjacent to it. And i played dd1 afte dark souls cause it had similarities. Im a big fan of the three and i love each but without playing one i might not played the other. I dont mind comparisons cause at the end of the day if it gets people to play the game then its all good if they dont like it then whatever not everybody likes the same thing. Most people tend to like adjacent games even if they are very different. Even if the pwrson tries dd2 cause they told him is like elden ring. Hes bound to play it and be like this is different to what i thought but i like it. Like they've thrown a bunch of gameplay videos one can look and say this looks good or bad
@@MrMich1lol it's a distantly related cousin but far from it. you don't just fight "Monsters" it's everything a grimdark fairytale is able to throw at you. Actual raw gameplay is leagues better than any MH too. At least Dark Arisen is. Haven't played 2 yet but I hear there's even more variety and options.
9:29 Very good point here. A lot of the game is about the journey from point A to B and making sure you have the resources to get there while it's still light outside so you're not caught out in the dark. I feel like the long journeys, limited fast travel and stamina management will turn off some people, but it makes me excited
I think a lot of people aren’t actually going to be ready for the level of threat that is the night. It is intense and sometimes feels unfair because something can attack and kill you outright and you didn’t even see it.
Yeah the lack of fast travel turned me off of the first game. Everything else I love though. Biggest problem with no fast travel is just the fact that I like to do a lot of side quests so when I'm going from point a to point b back to point a and finish a quest just to get another that's right near point b it can be a little much to have to run back to point b just to fight the same monsters on the same roads and what not
@@spaghettisauce1104 Ya the first game only had one port crystal initially, so it was very time consuming to do side quests. We've seen one lootable port crystal already in DD2, so I think fast travel will be a little bit better. What I really like about DD is that you have to make the journey to your destination by foot at first, but you slowly build out your own personalized fast travel system that feels earned
Everyone that's played Dragons Dogma knows that it is its own thing. I remember my first attempt at playing DD1 I gave up very early because I kept comparing it to other fantasy RPGs that I've played. It wasn't until my second attempt (when I went in with fresh eyes and an open mind) that I realised how beautiful and original Dragons Dogma really is - one of the most creative, ambitious, and well thoughtout Fantasy RPGs ever made.
I loathed the inventory. In retrospect I should have persisted because trying to play it now is a chore. Bit it's still an awesome game. Dd2 is a gimme
@@lewisbenzie845Personally I love the Inventory. It's true that it can get tedious sometimes, but I don't think it's bad. I really like that the pawns each have their own inventory that they can use at their own discretion. And that I can see how well they're doing with regards to carry weight, and transfer items between us as necessary. I can see why other players dislike it though since they most like just want to continue the game without thinking too much about inventory. For me I just think it's useful since I can have large hired pawns capable of carrying a bunch of my things for me so I'm not weighed down by them myself, and can give me what I need in the heat of the moment.
" - one of the most creative, ambitious, and well thoughtout Fantasy RPGs ever made" Ur joking, right? Dont get me wrong, I love DDDA. But it's really nothing special. It doesn't even have proper lore. It feels like they slapped the world together in a few hours and called it a day without giving it proper thought. Its very generic.
@@Oozaru85 Creative and ambitious for sure. It could of been executed a lot better. But I stand by that it is one of the best ideas for Fantasy RPGs ever - just needed more time to perfect it.
I have a feeling DD would be viewed differently today without The Everfall and DDDA Bitterblack Isle. If DD2 can capture the momentum DD and DDDA offered late game closer to its start, gamers new and old alike to the series are in for a real treat.
YES. To me the first Dragon's Dogma was all about delving into BBI countless times, getting my butt kicked while acquiring more levels and gear, then coming back stronger to get a little bit deeper. I can only hope there are similar dungeons here!
The last 2 Game of the Year winners were coming from genres that were considered niche. Elden Ring with its Souls combat, high difficulty and vague storytelling and Baldur's Gate with its CRPG turn-based combat. A well-made game is a well-made game.
Elden was not niche, it was open world rpg which is massive goty material and feels less Souls like than the others cos it's easier via gear. The other is a DnD game which has a cult following lol. Just high quality games
@@mckookie2967there are still people who find elden ring clunky, the other dark souls games too. There are other rpgs similar to elden ring with different combat systems that others do enjoy more. Overall the souls formula is niche, it was niche for the longest time when dark souls 1 and 2 were the thing, even if Elden Ring made more people get into it.
@@mckookie2967and the primary reason for it getting big was because the games released with completely new generations to play them, influxes of people that had been born a short while before dark souls 1 or otherwise were children until bloodborne released and more people got into the series. Dark Souls 3 brought more, sekiro, and eventually elden ring. I was born in 2004 and got into dark souls as a whole through bloodborne.
@@ghoulishgoober3122 WHATEVER DUDE 😅 you can tell yourself that but the reality is it’s great and you aren’t good at it so it’s not your favorite experience because you can’t conquer it. Worry about your own problems with the genre not the masses who are pleasant with the product.
Another aspect that rarely gets discussed are pawn (party) selection. There are various classes that range from melee, bow, magic, and combinations of those 3. Party makeup is hugely important because monsters & bosses have various strengths & weaknesses and its all to easy to fail because your party makeup was geared towards specific damage types and then running into bosses that are immune to those damage types. Its important to have a pawn that excels in specific & varied damage types. Basically, you want a bow class (to attack enemies from range), a melee class (to tank damage) and a magic class (because they do various elemental damage). And because the world is full of varied enemy & boss types, you need a well rounded party. Sometimes you will encounter enemies that are resistant to magic, so you need physical. Sometimes you encounter enemies that are resistant to physical damage, so you need a class that can deal various elemental damage (lightning, fire, cold, etc)...and you will constantly run into a wide range of enemies that have a wide range of weaknesses & resistances. Meaning that you will want a wide range of classes in your party. And the class system (called vocations) is set up so that you can easily change class for yourself & your main pawn...and release & hire new pawns whenever you want. Technically, you can have a party of any make-up you want, but its recommended to have a varied party. Want 3 mages or sorcerers? You can do that. Want 2 melee & a bow class? you can do that. Ultimately, its up to you, but just be aware that you will encounter a variety of enemies with a variety of weaknesses & resistances. And at any point, you can swap classes and try something different. Once you select a class for you & your main pawn, you are NOT tied to it. Just remember to swap out rented pawns when they get under-leveled because rented pawns do not level up. You have to release them from your service and then hire new ones. But the game's system allows you to alter the search engine to narrow down preferences, selecting by class, gender, race, and even proficiencies. Its a very robust system.
So the allies have level?do they level up with you or in combat on their own?or they dont level up at all and youll need to change every now and then, would be a shane you cant create a "bond" so to speak
I wasn’t aware you could change your main pawns vocation? I thought it was only yourself that you could swap classes for. If that’s the case it’ll make encountering hurdles a good bit easier lol
I think this was an expertly done video. That's what I think. You absolutely nailed the core concepts of the game and more than likely got in front of some really divisive opinions that will undoubtedly come forward. I personally cannot WAIT for this game to release - and I believe you're right; that a lot of other people that probably feel that same way are going to find themselves confused and left wanting because of unrealistic expectations. Hopefully that's not the case but we will see. Either way, I have a feeling my steam library will be shelved for a good long while after this releases as it will be the only thing I want to play, lol.
Yes you are correct and by that I mean what you have commented is an accurate description, to explain this its true what you have written and just to clarify he is indeed guilty of the repetitive nature of which you have highlighted.
I wish I could make youtube videos but THIS is the reason I'm afraid to start for real, I can't get to the point and keep repeating stuff again and again ahaha
Well, if it's like the first game, you're going to go on an adventure with a customizable partner, and 2 stupid looking background support characters that have a rotating cast, and varying degrees of usefulness ranging from overpowered to detrimental.
Good to see some games are returning to an explorative mystery nature not game play as a check-list. I know it isn't for everyone, and part of the reason is that some players grew up on check-list games and haven't been exposed to games that make you think for yourself.
its quite sad isnt it? i cant play hand holding and linear games. i get so bored being led to every interaction without any agency. i really hope those players break the conditioning
@@Shorty_Hutch Yep the sad thing is many players are too young to have tried any games like this unless they played Elden Ring, they may just like this sort of gameplay. I still recall you had to map many games on paper in the 80s 90s and I loved it.
ummmm everything you mentioned here sounds great and just made me more excited for the game lol. Thanks for the heads up though much appreciated to know more about what I'll be getting into.
I wouldn’t say it was made for as wide an audience as possible. It was just made with the classic Bethesda formula and people that enjoy that had fun with it. It certainly was not the best game ever but it was exactly all I expected or wanted it to be. Given that yea I would have enjoyed a little bit more in depth exploration. It took place in space and I could make my spaceships and that alone allowed me to have a lot of fun.
Good info. Reminded me of some of the reasons why I knew the first _Dragon's Dogma_ wouldn't be for me. Design choices I fundamentally disagree with, and would need to force myself to ignore. Sometimes they're just dealbreakers. Like, if I'm playing an RPG and discover that the loot you find is not only 100% randomized but stupidly open to save scumming, that's pretty much it-I can no longer enjoy the game the way I may have been. It's what made me drop _ESIV:Oblivion_ like a rock. Bethesda never made that mistake again, conspicuously enough.
Glad you made this video, because the hype and comparisons are a real concern, and breaking down those misconceptions is 100% necessary as we approach the launch, especially after the palpable hype for Elden Ring again with the recent trailer and release date announcement; I think there's going to be a lot of people experimenting with adjacent titles until the release, and that's a huge risk with a game like DD2. But here's to hoping that DD2 can deliver on its promises and provide a more "quest simulator" vibe without feeling like a barren wasteland with low diversity enemies and gimmicky battle tactics.
Great video. Thanks. Perhaps, no one will have to miss anything if they don't want to. UA-cam "10 things to do in..." videos will take care of that 'see everything' need even if their playthrough becomes weird. The single save and rigid class system also means multiple playthroughs could feel new each time . Cheers
That video is a very good idea. I came to the first game with darksouls expectations, and your point is exactly what I felt. I expected a rhythmic fight of one on one. Sometimes one on 2. Sometimes 1 vs many, and then it becomes more tactic. But in DD I suddenly faced a giant boss, and the entire camp came to fight. I think what surprised me most was how little my individual character contributed, compared to what I'm used to In many fights on the road, like goblins and stuff, you can just straight up stare at the sky and let your pawn take them on (I'm talking about early game) I also came with expectations for demon souls difficulty. I can say that for the first 5 hours at least - not even close I think I'll like this one a lot more after I know specifically what its purpose is. I strongly agree with you that the expectations you come with to a game are crucial to how much you'll enjoy it
It's got a little bit of various Capcom games, it has some of that monster hunter jumping on and just fighting large creatures, exploiting weaknesses (like lighting griffins on fire), I will say a dodge being exclusive to one of the vocations is an odd choice, but works well to differentiate classes. There's some open world exploration which I don't think they made many if any before dd1, but they do have that dmc combat system, the ability to grab and throw enemies, random stuff in the environment. Not Capcom but has an aspect of dark souls with the stamina management and focus on overcoming challenges and bosses. Another unique aspect to it being the pawns, companions aren't unique but them naturally learning as you do thing near them absolutely. The rpg mechanics can be found lightly in monster hunter and more in the souls series.
Yes, I have. Multiple times. It has features of Shadow of the Colossus, Monster Hunter, Dark Souls, Devil May Cry, you name it. And a very generic fantasy setting. Its not unique at all feature-wise. And wth do you need 10 games? Even the few I mentioned are enough to counter your argument. Unless you don't know what "unique" means. The only feature that could be called "unique" is the pawn system. Thats pretty much it tho. The rest of the game is anything but unique.@@ecMonify
@@ecMonify Stop being so naive, Dragon's Dogma 2 took inspiration from other games to create that game, which in that sense it isn't unique, No game ever made in 2024 can be truly unique that is stupid AF to even consider.
excellent video and explanation!!!! This game is for me and fits my expectations! Fed up of being guided through quest-icon-chasing-stuff.... real exploration and surprises!!! Thanks for all those explanations!!!
I think it's true. It may indeed be a game that isn't for everyone. There are things about it that may turn people off from trying or completing it. There were things about the first game that did the same for some people. I personally, know that I will be playing DD2 because I've thoroughly enjoyed the first game so many times since it originally launched.
this guy is great....immediate subscriber and first time Ive watched a video from him. we need more content creators like him. honest, straightforward, good articulation, pithy and most of all HELPFUL. No judgement, just good content. great job.
I played the first Dragons Dogma game but I watched the video anyway. This is such a helpful video for people on the fence on playing. I think content creators should do more informative stuff like this. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. This only makes me more excited for this game. I was getting mixed signals for what to expect and this really helped weed out the bad information. Hoping this gives me the sense of exploration, discovery, and danger that I’ve missed from older games that didn’t hold your hand with quest markers.
For a game like this, I really like being able to manually save. If there's only one save and it's auto, well, I've got a life to lead, and it sometimes interrupts my gaming. If you can quit when you want and it saves, like Elden Ring, that's fine, but if not...going to have to wait for a big sale or pass.
I'm pretty sure it has save and quit, I actually don't know if you can pause though; but I believe consoles let you pause regardless with the sleep functions now. It's a single player game with some limited online functionality, so I wouldn't worry on this front.
You can manually save, and the first one has a save and quit, so you can probably do it with this one. You just can't go back and load something from several saves ago.
Every described "issue" you listed is exactly why I fell in love with the first game and it's sense of "I'm not strong enough to go here yet. I need to survive and escape." it's literally just like jrpgs I love where you have to be equipped and leveled and have enough skills to handle rough situations and enemies. Can't wait
Very good video with a perspective that i have nott heard/read about this game before. Very grounded from a postition of a fan of Dragons Dogma. I have read/heard about a few things you raised but not told the way you frame it. Thank you for your video Mugthief
i LOVED the first one, but this video hits the nail dead on. the fact is even with the first one, i have friends and people i know who played it and immediately dropped it because they didn't like how it played, along with the lack of hand holding and explanations etc. ultimately that friend has jumped back in after seeing the second and hearing me talk about my love for the first one and with a second chance he felt that it was a much more enjoyable experience. this same thing will apply to the second, if any of the things mentioned in the video are a problem then it's not gonna be a fun experience.
Really appreciate this. Honestly when you describe the format for this game, it makes me question if it's actually the kind I would enjoy. I've been super curious and the gameplay looks awesome. But i do kind of like to have a more set storyline and big climactic scenes as i progress. Random exploration and aimless wandering isn't quite my thing. Elden ring was kind of the perfect storm of me being okay with that. Maybe i'll wait until the price comes down on this a bit before i try
That’s what happen with me with cyberpunk 2077. So many high expectations I’ve been hearing about, certain features that was going to be in the game until I played it and realized they wasn’t. I do also blame myself for not doing my own research and just falling for all the hype. The game itself is a great game, don’t get me wrong. Because of the high expectations, I was expecting more which in a way dulled my experience with cyberpunk. So I’m glad there’s a video like this addressing this issue because I don’t want this game to through that situation.
i thought is "modern mass effect" , so I bought cyberpunk 2077, but when I played it, I feel empty in such a big map, have no intention to explore at all. I thought it's just me 😅
Yeah I don't know what my expectations were with Cyberpunk. It reminded me of a future dystopian Far Cry with a much more engaging story line. I enjoyed it from the beginning.
I had the opposite reaction with cyberpunk. I Didnt buy it at release because i heard it was a mess. But i bought it in 2023 and man was the game good one of the best games ever made.
@@vatossurenoIt's a much better game now than when it launched. _Mostly._ They made one very poor decision in the massive revamp: skill checks for doors and whatnot level with the player. Completely artificial; game didn't used to do that. There is, fortunately, a mod which addresses that problem. For me, I probably couldn't play the game without that mod. That's how much I hate the artificiality of things that level with the player. But fortunately the mod does exist and the game is quite fantastic.
cyberpunk is fantastic now. sure it doesnt have all of the things that were advertised but if you follow game development almost no games do. some are just worse offenders than others. this is coming from someone who refunded the game when it launched cuz it was so broken, its definitely a banger now...i hate that thats even a thing but at least they did right by the game in the end.
i like dragons dogma alot and im pretty sure that dragons dogma 2 will be amazing but i already know, that the stamina management (i mean running around) in the open world, the item management and using consumables for stamina regain will be annoying could still become my game of the year
I'm pretty sure there were way to reduce your stamina consumption with consumables in the first game. The second will be adding a cooking system, or a deeper one than the first game; so you could forage and explore more to keep your stock of this stamina use reduction food. I mean if you do enjoy the gathering and general exploration stuff it'll just be more of that, and keeps you prepared for longer treks
Feel like this game will be a breath of fresh air for me like Elden Ring was. No hand holding, go to 1000 map markers mind numbing boredom, just go in this direction/towards this landmark way in the distance and discover all this cool shit that sidetracks you for 10 hours along the way.
I know what I'm getting into with DD2, which I played the original alot and then some when Dark Arisen came. Also, I vividly remembering the chatter of the game getting compared to Skyrim and such. Comparing it to Soulsborne is a disservice to the sequel. While it's forming with its approach to questing, npcs, in fact, approach you instead if they have a quest. I learned there is some beetle you can snag in areas to increase your carrying capacity by using it or selling it to gain a decent amount of gold. I personally don't know about how to truly feel about that beetle thing, but that aside. There is a slight sense of direction in DD2 from the information we've been given. I'm one of those people who prefer a mild to slight sense of direction and then left to my own devices in the game. I didn't enjoy Elden Ring, and the pressure train came from that (respect to nice Soulsborne fans who won't bash you cause you benched game, ended up not liking the game or have reasonable criticism towards Elden Ring), but I won't be like DD2 is the thing everyone should try. I'm one of those people who love party hectic combat games or games with hack-slash insane combat, but I would never recommend those games to everyone. So mad respect for trying to help with the hype goons that spread this misinformation, Mug Thief.👍
I find it funny that Dark Souls became popular, then every game with action, adventuring and exploring or some chalenge design/mechanics since ever is "something something soulslike". Even shotters. People just want to talk about everything just for hype and sometimes didn't even know what they talking about. "Content" creators love those trends.
Helpful video. "Disappointment" means "unmet expectations". By helping people have expectations that the game intends to satisfy you help them avoid disappointment. And hopefully enjoy what the game is, rather than be disappointed because of what it isn't.
Monster Hunter yes, Elder Scrolls maybe? ES only commonality is traditional fantasy settings - everything else is quite literally different. Even the approach each franchise has. DD isn't largely focused on questing and narrative, but that's ES whole thing. ES also has a large focus on intricate world building and design, while DD doesn't. The combat styles are not the same at all. Even the perspective is different. If you really care about traditional fantasy, then you'll like DD in that regard... However that's only if you like combat in the realms of Monster Hunter.
definitely one of those single player game that doesn't matter if you start to play 10 years later. gonna grab it at 75% - 90% sales on steam. Still have hundreds of game to play until then :).

Well said, and I'm someone who knew next to nothing about Dragons' Dogma before now. I think a lot of lessons here can be applied to any other game. A lot of players get frustrated when a game isn't what they expected, and they blame the game and its devs for making a "bad game". The players weren't misled by the devs & publishers, they were misled by a combination of their personal expectations and by speculation from misinformed friends, media, and content creators. Then the game gets a bad rap from the people it was never catering to in the first place. I hope that doesn't happen with DD2.
YOOOO TRUST ME When I saw the trailer for the first time the first thing that crossed my mind was to make my character based on Beric Dondarrion hahahaahahaha
I was genuinely scared my first time adventuring at night time in the first game. Ran into a roaming goblin party that had two cyclops' and then our fight ran into a Chimera lurking in the shadows, it was terrifying first time seeing all of it go down.
I think this is the issue with gamers today. They're having super high expectations AND opinions, on games they've literally never played before. They set the bars too high that the devs never set themselves, and then drop a bunch of negative reviews on the game when it doesn't meet those absurd expectations. Just wait for games to come out, and leave reviews accordingly.
Gamers have high expectations? With the amount of money, time, and effort that devs put into a game, and with how much they cost to buy, why shouldn't we expect good games? if I'm going to spend $94.99 on this game, I expect it to be worth it. I expect it to be good. Are you saying we should give the multi-billion dollar companies a break?
@@HollowBagel This is an actual fact. People tend to be more forgiving if a game is priced less, it's why a lot of low cost indie games get so much praise. Cause not only are they made by small teams they tend to cost less than half of most AAA games.
@@HollowBagel you misunderstood what I meant. I'm not saying you should expect the game to be good, but rather expecting it to exceed the expectations you have in your mind based off of games you might be comparing it to, that its not even similar to in any regard. ie The skyrim comparisons to this game. Skyrim is still amazing to this day, imo, but if I never played dragons dogma before(I havent) why would I compare it to that of Skyrim just solely based off of its appearance so far? That make a little more sense? And also, I'll do ya one further...early access games. People review bomb EA games ON LAUNCH just because they have server issues or a few small bugs lol. Shit like that is annoying too.
I like this kind of video. Keeping it real, nuanced, fair and laying down the potential negatives for ppl. Always better to play snth else OR have skepticism and be surprised than hyped n overly optimistic n disappointed in tbe end + 60$ gone without warning essentially
I’m glad you made this video, because this same thing happened with Cyberpunk. Ppl just pictured an entirely different game or just straight up added elements that wasn’t in the game. Basically the wrong expectations.
@@Patrickdaawsome there was literally an official trailer from CD projekt red where they showcased how in-game cutscenes worked and how you always saw your own character in them, and it was the one thing that made me buy the game. turns out that was a complete lie, and there were no in-game cutscenes with your character at all... i hated that the game was in 1st person mode, but at least you'd be able to see your own custom character in cutscenes so i ended up buying it (or so i was led to believe), cause i love seeing my own character in the games i play. well, jokes on me i gues... (for listening to official videos by the company that made the game) :/
I guess people could feel tricked only in this sense. The expectations of today's games is to make them accessible to many people which ends up with the game telling you where to go and what to do and the player mindlessly follows that path. This game, I'm guessing, will not hold your hand. I'm all for it.
Thanks for explaining this. I wish someone made a video like this for Elden Ring as I had no idea what I was getting into and I ended up hating it and regretted purchasing it.

Level up charisma and your ability to sweet talk a NPC but still fail a dice roll so you don’t get the thing you wanted and what’s worse, you are locked out of getting it. That felt like my leveling up certain attributes didn’t matter at all. Then have the advantage in combat and a high chance to connect with your chosen attack. Miss, then enemy who is disadvantaged gets a critical and you die in 1 shot. That’s not fun. It removes my skill as a player and makes it random luck.
Thank you for this video. Game looks amazing, but i love stories/lore and a compelling ongoing narrative. If im just aimlessly wandering around with meaningless quests just to get better armor or something this game is not for me. As you've said though thats ok! I hope whoever gets it enjoys it!
Can’t wait! This games gonna be hard I bet. Well, for me at least. I’m good at a lot of video games, but for some reason I had trouble with dragons dogma 1. Maybe I didn’t play it long enough? (I didn’t play it for long because I played it for the first time just before elden ring came out coincidentally lol, and when I got elden ring I just wanted to play that instead.) but I found DD1 to be pretty difficult like I said, so was that simply a case of it just being one of those games that are difficult when you first start the game because you’re really weak in the beginning and don’t know how a lot of things work? Sorry for the long and confusing comment it’s getting late and I’m super tired 😅. I also want to add that the vibe I got from this video was that you genuinely wanted people to just be informed and aware, this video wasn’t just a video made for the sake of views where all the effort goes into the “marketing” of the video. I mean that is just the impression I get, but It does seem you genuinely had good intentions when making this, and I respect that
The stamina aspect is so annoying. Its gonna be just like all games with stamina where all of our players are apparently lifelong smokers who can only run 50 yards and can swing an axe twice before exhaustion
Dragon's Dogma 2 uses Denuvo anti-cheat & probably forces an always online connection, looking at the IGN gameplay video you can see parts where Dragons Dogma 2 framerate drops below 30 FPS. hardpass I can already tell the game will be horrible unoptimised for PC!
lol sure this argument again. Maybe it’s just that the prerelease version is not optimized very well yet and there are no driver tweaks from Nvidia. But no, it’s gotta be Denuvo 🤦♂️ Denuvo has almost zero performance impact on a modern gaming PC.
Thank you for making this, I've definitely seen a lot of videos made by people who clearly never played the first game and claiming things that aren't true about DD2. DD is not for everyone that's for sure.
The sticking points you mentioned are actually intriguing for me and for most hardcore gamers out there who love to find out their own path in these type of games the hard way. Excited af 🔥🔥😍
Thankyou soo much for this video. I was on the fence with this having played the 1st one and finding it enjoyable but very hard and I didn’t really understand what was going on, ended up getting caught in a very difficult encounter that I wasn’t equipped to deal with skill wise or equipment wise and then giving up and playing something else. I am interested in this but I’m now going to wait, probably for a sale but at least until there are enough UA-cam guides. Looking like I’ll get Rise of the ronin instead.
I got addicted to dd1 on switch and bought it on a wim for 5 bucks.took me a while to get into but absolutely loved it.the game felt very low quality in alot of way but rhe xombat just became extremely addictive and although the story and side quests are kind of rubbish i found the ending hours to be some of the best ive ever played.
The best comparison for Dragon's Dogma is Outward. Except Outward is much more hardcore and actually manages to fully capture that gritty survival experience. Honestly outward is way better aside from the combat which is debateable. Dragon's dogma fans may not like hearing that though hahah
It looks like spells will be more diverse this time around. I really hope that's the case. I like spells that do things that really change up combat, like utility spells even. Things like Blink, and Push, or Pull, High Jump or Glide, Teleport, etc.
Sadly gonna have to wait a bit so I can finish DD1 which I'm pretty engrossed in right now. Makes me look forward to this sequel a lot more as it seems like a more refined version of the first one. I hope everyone enjoys their launch experience, you only get it once after all :)
One of the best experiences I’ve had was keeping a quest log when elden ring first launched. I just wrote down what I had done and what people asked me to do and once in a While I’d have to read back through it. It really added to the immersion and sense of adventure. If DD2 doesn’t have a decent quest log I really recommend doing this.
This was actually really helpful for me to understand what to expect, I still planned on buying the game I was mainly waiting for reviews on the performance and all but knowing this makes me feel a lot better
I'm glad to see this being said by someone who's clearly excited about the game. The hype monster is real, and it tends to lead to people jumping on new games way too hastily. I liked the previous Dogma so much I grabbed it on PC to replay it before 2 comes out, but I wont be buying 2 on launch. Infact the only game I've ever pre-ordered was Elden Ring, and that was 3 days before it's release because I already knew it was going to be another soulsborne. (and cuz my internet was slow asf.) I will be waiting a few weeks for some comprehensive reviews to release, and any potential early launch bugs to be ironed out.
There is an important concept in Game Design that not all games follow, is called an archetype, not the regular meaning of the word but one specifical to game development, and it can be summarized in basically "the specific core characteristics of a game that make it unique" this concept is different from a genre because a genre is "the general characteristics of a game that help identify it", the thing with this is that the principle of an archetype is to determine specific playstyles and ways of playing that make it appealing in its own way, for instance Dark Souls, Monster Hunter and Dragons Dogma are all third person action adventure games as a genre, but the archetype of each is completely different one beign what pople wrongfully call a genre, the souls-like archetype, another one is the monster fighting style of MH and then there is this immersive system of DD. This makes the games comparable in the surface but whole different worlds once properly discribed.
Thats how I explain it to my little brother about DDDA back in time 😂 he was very frustrated about the slow progress and time intensive search for the right Quest progression, it took him a while to understand that’s a journey instead of an Min Maxing Rush RPG, he never understand how I gather 1500h in such an old title, and I’m still playing it… Dragons Dogma is like a Map in Elve language and you have it in front of you, you understand nothing but there is a BIG RED X I mean it’s a map obviously, there a mountains, and this point looks like a forest ? Ok , u can’t describe why but all u want is reach that marked point, no clue how, no clue when or why but let’s see what’s happening and enjoy the journey with the hope to reach your target and let you fall in the lore !
Great video, thanks for giving us all an honest representation of the game. I enjoyed, but didn't love, the first one so I'm planning to get this when there's a prices decrease.
The lack of quest markers actually makes me excited. I want to explore a ton. The resource management with the camping stuff does make me a little nervous. I've never been great at resource management.
The beauty of the go north east and find this quest system instead of markers is that you do feel at times like hope is lost in finding something, but in a game like dd2 the journey will be hell fun and then all of a sudden you stumble on your quest location. And that is a great reward in itself especially when it comes with an awesome fight!
I'm only 1.5 minutes into your video, but I've already subbed. Finally, somebody who didn't get a free ticket on the hype train. Didn't play DD, but loved Skyrim and ER, so I've been told MULTIPLE times I'm sure to love this game. I sincerely hope that's the case. I can't wait to watch the rest of your video. Oh God, it's a survival mode game where survival mode isn't optional. I think I'll hold off. Thank you.
I think you hit the nail on the head. The reason I liked DD1 so much was all the cool spells and combat. Especially early game. It seems like most AAA games these days you might as well just put the controller down and grab popcorn.
Dude, thank you! I tried playing the original game but was hung up on “where to go” and a few other points you made. The game wasn’t clear. With this in mind, I am excited to finish the first one and get this one :) subbed!
This is the clearest picture of what this game is. Some of what you described isn't stuff I technically like but I am curious. I think I'll give it a try but at a discount because things like navigation are bothersome to me. Thanks for the clear truth
I'm glad someone is saying this. I HATE monster hunter combat and I'm trying to find out if the combat in this game is similar - bc it kind of looks like it.
normally, yeah, sometimes not knowing where to go for me can be frustrating but at the same time i like to explore around and seeing that in this game anything can happen and that is kinda exciting to where i wanna play on launch day. and who knows, this game could break that wall down and make me want to look for more games like this one.
Hearing you talk about the exploration has got me more hyped about the game. Some of my favorite games are ones with exploration with no guidance. Elden Ring, Outer Wilds, Subnautica. I hope Dragons Dogma 2 can replicate that feeling of wonder I got from there’s games.
I appreciate you creating such a great educational video. I've been looking for a game to play for hours on end and just get lost in, and your video was just what I needed. I've never played a game like this before. I only wish more people would dedicate their time to creating videos such as these.
I really enjoyed the first one, and I'm glad they reworked the stat growth to make any playstyle viable, but I still hoped they would add multiple save slots.
60FPS console ?
A game made for everyone is a game made for no one, glad they are sticking to their core principles
I concur
The commitment of the team to their vision is something I believe we need more of in games.

Facts 💯
Bro, took the quote from the hell divers 2 dev
i didn’t play the OG Dragon’s Dogma, as I got it when Dark Arisen came out, but man was the experience that I had with DDDA such an uniquely crafted experience.
This. The less quest marker and map icons the better the adventure. If they would get rid of the minimap also it would be such a better experience.
No please 🥺 😭 @@kayodoubleu3310
I'm glad they stuck to the principles of the first game instead of targeting a 'wider audience'. It's so rare for that to happen these days.
Like they've thrown a bunch of gameplay videos one can look and say this looks good or bad
this
Looks like monster hunter tho
@@MrMich1lol it's a distantly related cousin but far from it. you don't just fight "Monsters" it's everything a grimdark fairytale is able to throw at you.
Actual raw gameplay is leagues better than any MH too. At least Dark Arisen is. Haven't played 2 yet but I hear there's even more variety and options.
Nah, dragon dogma is open world monster hunter, period.
I'm very excited for that. I like hard work in open world RPGs.
well this kinda feels like recent game Enshrouded, with a limited bagpack or games like Witcher, Skyrim, Fallout where carry weight plays a huge part.
Well said
" - one of the most creative, ambitious, and well thoughtout Fantasy RPGs ever made" Ur joking, right?
Elden Ring in 2024 is definitely as main stream as it gets
Thanks
Isn't assassin considered a melee class? I don't think they make good tanks
@@xtalpax902 If I am correct, you have one that can ''grow'' with your character. The other pawns are rented out from other players

Good to see some games are returning to an explorative mystery nature not game play as a check-list. I know it isn't for everyone, and part of the reason is that some players grew up on check-list games and haven't been exposed to games that make you think for yourself.

Yo, I used to watch your Valheim vids way back when. Trippy to see you commenting on one of my videos! Thanks for stopping by!
Starfield is an excellent example of this. A game that was made for as wide an audience as possible that disappointed almost everyone going into it
I wouldn’t say it was made for as wide an audience as possible. It was just made with the classic Bethesda formula and people that enjoy that had fun with it.
It certainly was not the best game ever but it was exactly all I expected or wanted it to be. Given that yea I would have enjoyed a little bit more in depth exploration.

@@SUPERMegaGaGaTV2 I was thinking it would be thanks for the confirmation
Cheers
I had some expectations, I just recently starter dragons dogma 1 and it's so different to how I thought. I am liking it
Same, I just tried it on a whim after seeing DD2 trailer and ended up really liking it
same! I'm about 90 hours in after 2 weeks.
Yeah so good ayee, 2 will be awesome, gotta try and finish 1 before 2 comes out haha
I loved DD1. It was so special, despite its flaws.
this guy has been on almost every promotion page commenting about this game ignore him please 😂. He’s a bot
I think what surprised me most was how little my individual character contributed, compared to what I'm used to
In many fights on the road, like goblins and stuff, you can just straight up stare at the sky and let your pawn take them on (I'm talking about early game)
I also came with expectations for demon souls difficulty. I can say that for the first 5 hours at least - not even close
I think I'll like this one a lot more after I know specifically what its purpose is. I strongly agree with you that the expectations you come with to a game are crucial to how much you'll enjoy it
The way i put it to people who have never played it before is that Dragons Dogma is like allot of games but there are no games like Dragons Dogma
There are many games like DD because DD uses features of multiple different Capcom games. People acting like its something unique is ridiculous, lol.
@@Oozaru85 have you even played dragon's dogma? you say there are many games like it, please name 10...

No judgement, just good content. great job.
I don't need it to be for everyone. I just need it to be for me.
It might be for me if the performance issues get fixed and I can create more than one character on PC for free.
@@Mugthief Thank you.
You can manually save, and the first one has a save and quit, so you can probably do it with this one. You just can't go back and load something from several saves ago.
it allows you to cheat the game if you can go back and load previous saves to some degree.@@HollowBagel
@@thecanadakid7622 I know.
You could do a really convincing impression of yongyea
Being able to miss content is so fucking sick. I love that dynamic, gives a reason to go on another adventure whenever you finish your first.
I would agree, but the one save file makes it painful.
Have to delete old run instead of just making another.
@@thomaselvidge I don't understand the logic in having one save file in 2024
@@kingoflegends712 I completely agree, it's such a random limitation.
i like dragons dogma alot
and im pretty sure that dragons dogma 2 will be amazing
but i already know, that the stamina management (i mean running around) in the open world, the item management and using consumables for stamina regain will be annoying
could still become my game of the year
I'm pretty sure there were way to reduce your stamina consumption with consumables in the first game. The second will be adding a cooking system, or a deeper one than the first game; so you could forage and explore more to keep your stock of this stamina use reduction food. I mean if you do enjoy the gathering and general exploration stuff it'll just be more of that, and keeps you prepared for longer treks
I only played the first one with a weight limit mod set to off and I enjoyed it a lot after that
i will play it on console @@natural8677
Feel like this game will be a breath of fresh air for me like Elden Ring was. No hand holding, go to 1000 map markers mind numbing boredom, just go in this direction/towards this landmark way in the distance and discover all this cool shit that sidetracks you for 10 hours along the way.
DD it's its own genre, I'm glad they sticked to their design and didn't try to cather to a larger audience.
23 days to go 🙏
This is incredibly informative and am glad I watched! I was on the path to falling for the comparisons, so thank you
I know what I'm getting into with DD2, which I played the original alot and then some when Dark Arisen came.
So mad respect for trying to help with the hype goons that spread this misinformation, Mug Thief.👍
might try the original first it's like 5$, worht it since its simialr can see if I like the idea,
I find it funny that Dark Souls became popular, then every game with action, adventuring and exploring or some chalenge design/mechanics since ever is "something something soulslike".
This game is for people who like Monster hunter and The elder scroll. If you like those games DD2 is for you
Monster Hunter yes, Elder Scrolls maybe? ES only commonality is traditional fantasy settings - everything else is quite literally different. Even the approach each franchise has. DD isn't largely focused on questing and narrative, but that's ES whole thing. ES also has a large focus on intricate world building and design, while DD doesn't. The combat styles are not the same at all. Even the perspective is different.
If you really care about traditional fantasy, then you'll like DD in that regard... However that's only if you like combat in the realms of Monster Hunter.
more like Monster Hunter, Soulslikes, Outward, and Shadow of the Colossus.
Dragon Age: Inquisition was also pretty similar. I still get the two of them mixed up today.
Actually for people who like monster hunter and dark souls. Elder scrolls is for putting people to sleep lmfao
definitely one of those single player game that doesn't matter if you start to play 10 years later.
gonna grab it at 75% - 90% sales on steam. Still have hundreds of game to play until then :).
I'm ready to see how meticulous the character customization is. I want to see if I can make a pawn that looks like leanbeefpatty, lol
-.-. Wel go spend 70 euros just for that haha. If that makes you happy you do you :P. Make sure to drop the ID in chat when the game released, I will hire your 'leanbeefpatty' xD.

I've already put 165 hours and 100% the first game, and now I'm contemplating trying out a fresh save and challenging myself with playing through the game with only myself and my pawn, as well as playing only 1 vocation per playthrough!
TL;DR
If u like being held hand and treated like a baby in a game, this game is not for u.
The pawns literally show you where to go for questing. That is hand holding lol. They will point and yell to get your attention....hand holding.
@@moforyguy6803 "If you spend your precious rift crystal to hire a pawn that has the knowledge on that specific quest/location" then yes, otherwise no.
@@moforyguy6803 someone nrver played DD and it shows. Only pawns with knowledge will tell you what to do/where to go. Same thing with monster weaknesses and such. Lmfao.
@@moforyguy6803 and the knowledge acquisition is not easy either, plus there is no way to know what knowledge they have or do not have, if this is hand-holding for you then you are in the minority
To me, what looks like the main draw is just the pure creativity of the combat -- it really feels alive and dynamic in a way I always dreamt games would go and haven't always done.
Definitely looking forward to the release!
My biggest fear with DD2 was that the devs would abandon the core design to appeal to casuals, instead the doubled down and I'm so glad.
The night is dark and full of terrors 😁
Sooo gooood
YOOOO TRUST ME
When I saw the trailer for the first time the first thing that crossed my mind was to make my character based on Beric Dondarrion hahahaahahaha
Nigh is nightmare, soul like 😅
I was genuinely scared my first time adventuring at night time in the first game. Ran into a roaming goblin party that had two cyclops' and then our fight ran into a Chimera lurking in the shadows, it was terrifying first time seeing all of it go down.
The frames are stark and full of errors.

Cyberpunk marketing lied. Dragon’s Dogma 2 did not, people are incorrectly assuming how the fame will be
@@Patrickdaawsome there was literally an official trailer from CD projekt red where they showcased how in-game cutscenes worked and how you always saw your own character in them, and it was the one thing that made me buy the game. turns out that was a complete lie, and there were no in-game cutscenes with your character at all...
i hated that the game was in 1st person mode, but at least you'd be able to see your own custom character in cutscenes so i ended up buying it (or so i was led to believe), cause i love seeing my own character in the games i play. well, jokes on me i gues... (for listening to official videos by the company that made the game) :/
Yeah but also the game was a mess so...
I guess people could feel tricked only in this sense.
The expectations of today's games is to make them accessible to many people which ends up with the game telling you where to go and what to do and the player mindlessly follows that path.
This game, I'm guessing, will not hold your hand. I'm all for it.
I'm playing DD1. There are quest markers above NPC heads. is this taken out in DD2?
Yes from what I've seen so far
Thanks for this video, I will buy and play DD(it's only 5 bucks) and see if I like the game, before deciding anything about DD2.
I loved the original game, but having only one save slot was always a massive negative for me. Hearing 2 also has one save slot is a huge bummer
Thanks for explaining this. I wish someone made a video like this for Elden Ring as I had no idea what I was getting into and I ended up hating it and regretted purchasing it.
Baldurs gate 3 wasn't for everyone and yet it won goty
No vote from me. I can think of more exciting things than rolling dice on a screen for every significant decision.
Like playing Skyrim but worse? lmao@@vladdracul5072
@@vladdracul5072precisely why it wasn't for everyone. I know a good handful of people who like the idea of rolling for every little thing. Then again half those people are in my d&d circles so that's a little biased. But the other half is my xcom friends.
Very undeserved.
@@vladdracul5072this was my biggest issue.
This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen, and I appreciate how reflective and balanced your perspective is
Thank you for this video. Game looks amazing, but i love stories/lore and a compelling ongoing narrative. If im just aimlessly wandering around with meaningless quests just to get better armor or something this game is not for me. As you've said though thats ok! I hope whoever gets it enjoys it!
the game has a story and lore. you're just supposed to find stuff out on your own, rather than relying on a quest marker to follow at all times.
It's so silly to act like a game's content is "meaningless" just because it doesn't hold your hand. What a bizarre thing to say.
I really appreciate this video. I have no experience with DD, so getting some context about what DD2 is beforehand is really nice
Fast travel andys are mad
I played the original with a mod that makes running not consume stamina. Can't imagine playing without it
It makes sense though lmfao. You must suck at stamina management 😂
Stamina is unlimited outside of combat in this game, so it will be significantly better in that regard this time around.
I like builds. Not strict character paths. I might sit this out. Looks cool though.
You can play offline as confirmed by Capcom.
lol sure this argument again. Maybe it’s just that the prerelease version is not optimized very well yet and there are no driver tweaks from Nvidia. But no, it’s gotta be Denuvo 🤦♂️
Denuvo has almost zero performance impact on a modern gaming PC.
Aaand don't care. Pre ordered. Maybe save money instead of crying that you can't pirate it~
Thank you for making this, I've definitely seen a lot of videos made by people who clearly never played the first game and claiming things that aren't true about DD2. DD is not for everyone that's for sure.
The sticking points you mentioned are actually intriguing for me and for most hardcore gamers out there who love to find out their own path in these type of games the hard way. Excited af 🔥🔥😍
I love the genre dragons dogma is in but I sorta know the sequel isn’t for me. I didn’t like the first game so why would I like the 2nd
That’s Lowkey a great idea! I’ll have to keep that in mind when I play
Wow i forgot how honest reviews sound like. Earned my subscription 🙌
Thats how I explain it to my little brother about DDDA back in time 😂 he was very frustrated about the slow progress and time intensive search for the right Quest progression, it took him a while to understand that’s a journey instead of an Min Maxing Rush RPG, he never understand how I gather 1500h in such an old title, and I’m still playing it…
Dragons Dogma is like a Map in Elve language and you have it in front of you, you understand nothing but there is a BIG RED X I mean it’s a map obviously, there a mountains, and this point looks like a forest ?
I only wish more people would dedicate their time to creating videos such as these.
incredible video, thorough explanation, and extremely important point. new sub. amazing.
I really enjoyed the first one, and I'm glad they reworked the stat growth to make any playstyle viable, but I still hoped they would add multiple save slots.
