I find the channels where people just stand and record for an hour or so so boring. I love that you narrate and add history, humour and personality to what you film. It makes it so enjoyable and entertaining.
Actually I watch Trooping of the Colour, on BBC You tube channel. It was bliss, no useless chit chat, blah, blah, from the BBC presenters.
Listened to the 🎵🎶🎵 music with no useless talk over the music. I learned a lot from John, plus watched the T of the C as a child. So bliss, no chat.

The people who see these guards as 'toy soldiers', should watch 'The Queens Cavalry' documentary, where trooper Chris Finney at 18 of the Blues and Royals, won the George Cross in Iraq, it was that award as opposed to a VC, because if was by 'friendly fire'. Great respect to all of our soldiers.
You’ve got to admire Arnie’s technique. She pretends she hasn’t noticed the tourists at the side of her - “see, you’re quite safe, I’m looking the other way” - before swinging her head round to frighten them off.
Just a tip for those who don’t know - she can see you coming, she knows you’re there. She’s a horse with binocular as well as monocular vision giving her almost panoramic vision with just two blind spots - in between her front hooves and directly behind her. So if you think you’re sneaking up on her - you’re not.
Not too sure what that Japanese lady’s ridiculous pose was all about but Arnie soon put a stop to it.
The blind spot behind the tail is why, when they get agitated or spooked, their tail starts swishing. And if you think getting swiped by a horse’s tail swished in anger isn’t a problem then you’ve never been on the receiving end.
I defy anybody who gets a face full of tail swished in anger not to suddenly become fluent in Anglo-Saxon vernacular.
Just behave John - we can’t do with you getting your marching orders too.

John is always on his best behaviour plus he's well known to both the MOD police and the regiments , he wouldn't have been invited to Hyde Park Barracks for the Princess Elizabeth Trophy along with members of the press otherwise ! Some of his comments are hilarious and slightly risque but that's John " it is what it is " !😂😂😂. I do think we should have a t shirt with that on it 😀

My impression from when the mic was found was that he was actually trying to record the MOD Police.

Yes it's a barracks and originally served as the entrance to st James palace and palace of Whitehall which is why it's still guarded by the kings guard

OMG how do the people of the U.K. tolerate so many ignorant tourists being so disrespectful towards the Kings Guard, Police not to mention t he poor horses. I'm a horse owner and also have worked in the equestrian industry for nearly 35 years and one fundamental rule is never stand in FRONT of a horse you could be seriously hurt if the horse spooks or even jumps forwards. Also their eyes are in the side of the head they don't see what we see when touching a horse for the first time it's their shoulder you touch not hands straight up to the face, I know these people aren't aware of these things but myself and other horsey people just see Danger and accidents due to stupidity. Love your videos BTW.

There are a whole group of you who have total respect for the troopers / police and the place. Those who film regularly at Horseguards should be issued permits, after background checks, by Ministry of Defence. Putting a limit to the total number of permits issued, let's say annually, would control the number of videographers without affecting tourists.
If there's an issue with security, youtubers not complying with some type of protocol, I think the MOD officers, the guards, CoH, even MET police, should choose 6 or 8 TRUSTED, known to them only, for filming purposes. The rest should not be allowed. The safety of all mentioned, the security of country should be top of mind.

The amount of people at Horse Guards is minuscule to the amount of Asian tourists at the Grand Canyon, AZ. The trails are skinny and there aren’t many barriers to keep you from falling in. I was actually pushed all the way off a trail due to crazy people taking pictures of EVERYTHING! I cant believe how calm some of these horses are!!!
Also , there is a very large Chinese visitation at Niagara. falls Canada

good morning John and thank you for the update re the youtuber, it could have been something worse - the MOD police need to 'up their game' especially with regards to the safety and control of the yard and military property - too many times seen them grouped together chatting instead of paying closer attention to what the tourists (and others) are doing - and the tour guides should STOP encouraging tourists to stand closer to the horses - a 'panoramic' camera view catches all - my rants for the day 😄

Many years ago when my cousin was in the blues and royals, you weren’t allowed to touch the horses, speak to the guards, only watch from behind the barriers. How times have changed, now it’s just disrespectful tourists
I saw a video with the person placing the microphone and he did it when two police officers were talking privately so it looked like he was trying to record what they were talking about and they did not like it and told him to remove it.
Yes I remember that video. It was so disrespectful to try and record a private conversation.
That mother obviously has no control ver her children, we know who rules that household and it ain’t mum. We had 5 children six years apart and if they behaved that way in public yet alone on a military base, they would have felt my wrath not to mention their fathers who was in the Royal Australian navy for 23 years. What makes me laugh are the young people who just have to have their photo taken right next to the horse, but if he pushes at them or takes a little nibble, they give the horse and guard such dirty looks 😂

Why people feel the need to touch the horses just for a photo? It’s not your horse to touch. It’s different when the horse is looking for your attention, otherwise keep your hands off the horse ! It’s like people wanting to touch somebody’s dog on the street.

Everybody loves Venus🥰🥰🥰 I mean one can't help help but love her. I've seen her so many times at Horse Guards but i still find it hard to understand the unlimited amount of patience and welcoming spirit this small mare has for the entire world (small by comparison to other horses, and even other mares). It's easy to spot her, because she's smaller in height, she has that funky forelock and small muzzle. I don't think i know of any people, humans i mean, to have this unlimited patience and welcoming spirit. And she always, and i mean always, manages to get the "awww"s and the "waaa"s and the "ooohhh"s😄😄😄 So whenever you hear people interjecting like that at a horse from Horse Guards, it's definitely Venus. It's almost palpable the huge amount of positive energy she spreads around her, too, and people definitely feel it and are drawn to her. There's no problem with tourists crowding her, touching her (multiple people at the same time), stroking her inadequately, talking loud, everybody is welcome and everybody is forgiven (whatever their mistakes might be). And even though she is not a horse with remarkable physical traits, she has a remarkable unique heart. I've said it before and I'm going to say it again, she is the best ambassador horse from the Life Guards😉 Regarding what happened to Mr. Tony, i really didn't understand what the trouble was that got him banned. Except the fact that he placed a microphone...somewhere...while recording. That doesn't say much to me. I think it's very complicated to say with certainty what conditions Arnie to bite, but i definitely noticed she bites a lot more women than men. For sure.😄

A friend was watching this video overly shoulder and after a few minutes said ".... obviously they need more informative signage that explains this is not a petting zoo and these horses are trained warhorse and to touch them, get to close, pull reins and so on could result in traumatic danage to the tourist..."
It was at that moment that it hit me, they pay no attention to the very simple but clear sign already posted, why ever would anyone expect them to read so many more lines and actually pay attention to more words when the few words are ignored.
May be, one additional sign might work: "This is not a petting zoo, it is a Darwin Test Station. Can you pass?"
John the utuber that was banned was told of by police a few months ago for getting too close to the trooper, the trooper told him to get back more than once and in the end the trooper just yelled ‘police’ maybe that was the incident that got him banned, silly man

I find that all animals are very intuitive and the sense of smell is way beyond our species. Some humans too are that way too .
