MCRD San Diego sure has change since I went there in 87. I do like that they put some safety bags under the 'stairway to heaven' on the confidence course. I think that is what we called it. I met a guy who fell and broke both his legs. Wait till theese recruites get to Mount Mother, lol. Good times, Semper Fi.
I graduated in '95...noticed they got rid of the water on the pugil sticks course. That used to be called the "Bridge Over Troubled Waters." Looks like they improved the net under the slide for life too. Mouth Mother...oooh yeah! I remember that... also The Grim Reaper, Recon Ridge and The Microwave... MCRD was the best start...SOI was the finish! Good times indeed, Semper Fi!!!
The nervousness from doing all of this was the fear that you wouldn't succeed. Other than that, there was never anything to be afraid of in terms danger when doing anything. You are surrounded by safety swimmers. On the range, everything is done by the numbers and nobody comes close to pointing a rifle in the wrong direction, there are Corpsmen, etc.
They will teach it all to you. By the numbers. Don't worry about it. Just do your best to relax, but at the same time give 110%. Fear will hold you back.
I went in 03' and they didnt have the bag under the "stairway to heaven" Also, they called Mount Mother the Reaper when I went. If it weren't for my boy SPRINGHOWER, I wouldn't have made it up it by myself. Semper Fi
1997, we didn't do the Confidence Course because someone got brutally injured because they didn't have any netting or padding. Plus a dude blew his brains out when he went unq at the range.
You don't wear your own uniform when you go to the pool. You just grab a set that they have there, doesn't matter the size and chances are you are going to be wearing the wrong size boots and you would be lucky if you ended up with a left and a right boot instead of two lefts or two rights, at least that's how it was at PI.
platoon 3273 MIGHTY MIKE CO. ill never forget going through getting our gear after the shower before swim qual and i wear a size 12, i was given a size 14 left boot and a 7 right boot, its hard to swim well without proper gear
Knowing how to swim is not a great help. The main panic causer is when recruits are learning how to float and get a little water splashed in their face. That kicks off an instinct to try to roll over. I don;t know if this is still the practice but when I was in, if you were water safety qualifed first time around they asked you if you wanted to receive advanced training. (cont)
when I was a Paris Island the slide for life was closed they said that is was to dangurous because a recruit fell off and broke his back but the A frame was still there and and that was scary as shit
Maybe it's MCRD San Diego, as I remember PI all that was in the middle of nowhere with a fucked up looking swamp below filled with every disease known to man. But maybe that even changed at PI, can't even yell at Marines now a days.
(cont) This took place every Sunday from 1000 to 1500 with a lunch break until you qould not meet qualification standard on second try. My bunk mate and I did this and got what is equal to the current WSQ. This used to be big deal for the SDI because it was individual training effort. The top 10 shooters in the series were given the opportunity to become pistol qualed also. In general does the Corps sill have opportunities in Bootcamp anymore?
I was testing for Swim Qual 1. During the last technique my 220lb instructor took me 12' to the bottom, and my 155lb noodle of a body squirmed away to the surface. Upon arrival he said, "Oh freak no. You betta' kick away!" So I accidentally kicked him in the dick. Once again he took me 12' down, squeezed the remaining oxygen out of my body and used me as a spring board to get back to the surface. If the thought of drowning wasn't bad enough, he said I had to do every technique again. Oorah!
When I went through boot camp in 1995 in SD the slide for life was not over a pool. Like you said it was basically brown stagnant water not clear chlorinated pool water. Guess they changed it.
Been there done that did the shit took the shit, but,...I did it. No one except U. U earn it.Semper Fi., Good luck... VietnamEra Vet,U.S. MARINE forever....................😈 .
that won't stop you. Just try your damnedest and they'll let you pass - HOWEVER, you will be going to Swim Qual every month thereafter after Boot Camp...
The different looking uniforms - some are desert, others woodland - represents the stage of training a company is in. 1st phase recruits will start with their blouses buttoned to the top and trousers cuffed at the bottom with combat boots. 2nd phase will allow them to blouse their boots and unbutton the top blouse button. 3rd phase (at the very end, after the Crucible) means getting rid of the plastic ID tags on the colors, the involvement of their MCMAP belt (tan), involvement of Nylon skivvy shirts, and jungle boots to replace the worn combat boots.
because during swim qual you dont use your own cammies for some reason. they have a big ass pile of desert and woodland cammies and you just pick a pair before you get in the pool
Liam Shockley Bloused boots is when they are cutoff at the bottom usually using a band or strap which is how you are usually able to see our boots. During the first stages of recruit training, recruits are not allowed to blouse their boots but instead cuff them at the bottom.
Daaaaamn back when Chesty was around. Sorry I had to mess with you lol. But when I went through in 2004 Parris Island there was no matting either, I don't know what's going on, but I'm not liking the change. Before I got out as a Sgt, you couldn't even yell at a Marine without getting in trouble. And the word "boot" is now officially deemed as hazing.
Joni Mendes I don't know how they teach swim qual now. Years ago they throw you in the water. You can do. Can do attitude. Last resort is to dog paddle. The pack will help you float. It has an air pocket. Stay motivated.
So happy I never have to see the depot again. I'll admire it from a distance.
You must not enjoy yourself there

yes. in boot camp they will teach you how to do everything.
I was in the Corps from 78 to 82 and this brings back fond memories. Of course at the time it royally sucked LOL
do you still remember your di's?
The nervousness from doing all of this was the fear that you wouldn't succeed. Other than that, there was never anything to be afraid of in terms danger when doing anything. same here...i swear we ran at least 2 miles in circles around goddamn obstacles before we did any
Wow, those Hollywood Recruits have a clean swimming pool. In PI, we had a mudhole full of crap.
"HOLLYWOOD MARINES",... OOO-RAH.😁
I love how it cut off at 2:52 the second the guy fell
I went in 03' and they didnt have the bag under the "stairway to heaven" Also, they called Mount Mother the Reaper when I went. If it weren't for my boy SPRINGHOWER, I wouldn't have made it up it by myself. Semper Fi

So, was it _all good?_
@@f1r3hunt3rz5 he dead
Contact point on the pugil platform should be more square for more combat

Pistol qual is definitely not a thing as of recent.
Don't worry, I can't either.... But I still passed Boot Camp :P
you will learn quickly ... seriously!
I was nervous too but I fell off the slide for life and didn't have to climb it. Lucky me!
So what if you fall from the big high ladder while climbing it? You will break something
Is it only the marines who do the swimming traning? or the army to?
i cant swim what would happen if i went to boot camp and i didnt know how to swim?
i have to practice my swimming real quick lol
I have a serious problem with water always going into my nose and always going down my throat.. can you use nose plugs possibly ??!
Probably not because they're training you for survival.
@jr7rockets haha, for real man... good luck, I think i might try that YMCA too...I'm going to enlist in April....
some things never change! 352 MCRD SD 1960 Emper Fi
what if i dont know how to swim?
They were from different platoons.
I was wondering the same I want to join the Marines but I don't know how to swim do they teach you please answer
For the Pugil Sticks || can you dodge them?
Does the confidence course in Parris island have a mat underneath it?
No, Rust broken up rocks and dirt
+Subscribe yea found out for myself
what happens if u don't know how to swim ?
lol at giant pillow at the stairway to heaven base
, we just had to fall and break, USMC 87-93 Semper Fi
is it hard to swim with the uniform?
for any marine currently reading this, is it "aye sir" or "aye aye sir," officially? I've heard both in the poolee program.
depends if ur west or east coast
what if you can't swim, and i mean can't even make myself to float
How come some of them are wearing different uniforms?
@mackietac they will teach you drill instructors can make rocks float believe someone who already got through it
Its alot worse. Things seem easy just because the cameras are on. But when their gone all hell breaks loose.
I was testing for Swim Qual 1. During the last technique my 220lb instructor took me 12' to the bottom, and my 155lb noodle of a body squirmed away to the surface. Upon arrival he said, "Oh freak no. so its ok if i join without knowing how to swim right?
Sure, bring the 🌞 tan lotion!!!!
Swimming fully clothed is harder than it looks
Padding? A pool with clean water? What's next, a safety harness and obstacles that are only 5 feet high?
When I went through boot camp in 1995 in SD the slide for life was not over a pool. Like you said it was basically brown stagnant water not clear chlorinated pool water. Guess they changed it.
That and whats up with the swimming pool water under the slide for life. We had green nasty ass swamp water in 81.
what if u cant swim
yes im suree they pull aside and teach u
@mackietac Then they will teach you exactly how to float and swim.
im leaving to bootcamp sunday...omg -.-
Been there done that did the shit took the shit, but,...I did it. No one except U. U earn it.Semper Fi., Good luck... VietnamEra Vet,U.S. MARINE forever....................😈

Jordan Salcido what do you mean by "blouse their boots"?

Fuck yeah! Just looking at the water in PI makes you sick.
Daaaaamn back when Chesty was around. Sorry I had to mess with you lol. Well I'm fucked I can't climb a rope
sadistic frogman Just wrap one leg around the rope, than it's hand over hand. Your leg will do all the work. Stay motivated,
They will teach you technique
I hope that stuff works.
When I was in the Marines back in 1988, there was no mattress under the Stairway to Heaven. If you fell.....well you were just fucked.
Anthony Broaddus late reply... But we don't have one at PI. just pinecones
aww shit i cant swim , im doomed
Joni Mendes I don't know how they teach swim qual now. Years ago they throw you in the water. You can do. Can do attitude. Last resort is to dog paddle. The pack will help you float. It has an air pocket. Stay motivated.
Mark Lanz yes thanks bro ill try my best :)

2:58 DI Sgt. Jolly

@DANNYDRAY195 lol that should be the least of your worries
They have a giant pad on the stairway to heaven at MCRD San Diego? They don't have no padding at Parris Island... you fall your ass is dead.
Yo me either
pugil sticks looks a lot like "oklahoma" during football training
Then drink a lot of fizzy soda when you're in the pool.
